Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I used a Tens machine for my DS birth, then just gas and air in the last stages. Midwife took G+A off me when it was time to push then I realised how good it was when it was when I wasnt having it any more.

I thought the TENS was def worth it. I rented one from mothercare. Not sure really how it works or if it would have been any harder without it but I had it on for ages, then forgot to take it off after DS was born. I had to go into theatre after birth, so had to have a spinal anyway so wished I had had it for labour pains.

If I was having a natural birth this time, I would def try and have one. Midwife told me that it can slow labour down and lead to more chance of a forceps delivery but have since read that they are better at doing the dosage so that is not so anymore.

lulu25 · 16/10/2006 10:48

Hang on slowing labour down and increasing chance of forceps? You're talking about epidural rather than TENS there, right?

Oops.

Dragonhart · 16/10/2006 10:55

Yes, sorry. It was my preg brain again!

Sure TENS has no side effects, although I would warn you not to let your partner have the control pannel to start with as my DH 'accidentally' put it up too high and when he switched it on, it was really quite sore.

Am quite worried that I am loosing my mind actually. Did a test in a mag about if a realative has alzimers(sp?) and I tested pos and the advice was to go to my doc!

I keep swapping words around and mid sentence, mid flow, with no distractions, I will just forget what I have been saying and my mind goes totally blank!

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 11:11

hey all, just a quick note to let you know my wedding pics are here and if you scroll down you can see them on a slideshow even if you're not a myspace member!

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 11:13

oops....preg head too!! Dragon - i know what you mean about the swapping words round. i think i have verbal dyslexia!

Dragonhart · 16/10/2006 11:22

You look gorgeous Urban!! That dress looks beautiful, and I must admit to drooling over the wedding Cake! I love wedding/christmas cake!

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 11:24

we didn't even get any of that cake!!! (whispers) to be honest, neither of us is that keen on wedding cake, we wanted a chocolate sponge, but MIL was determined that we would have one like that!!

Dragonhart · 16/10/2006 11:29

A friend of mine had a tower of cup cakes which looked gorgeous too. Gutted though as I had to share mine with DH as she didnt have enough for everyone and asked her close friends to share.

God I love cake!! Why dont I have anything sweet in the house! Cant even go out as DS is having a nap. Might have to resort to eating sugar if I cant find anything in the cupboards

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 11:31

i find jam and toast does the trick personally....i love jam....i've been eating raspberry jam out of the pot lately...

Dragonhart · 16/10/2006 11:43

MMMM! Jam, dont have any, only some horrid marmalade which I had to buy for my MIL when she was staying. Yuck!

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 11:45

what???? who doesn't have jam???

Hattie2 · 16/10/2006 12:40

You wouldn't find jam in my cupboard either - all marmite freaks in my house!

Urban - wish I could see your photos but according to my work firewall that website is 'deemeed inappropriate' I am intrigued now!

magnolia - Pliko isn't that bad, and I'm sure I wouldn't think so if I'd paid £70 for the whole lot, what a bargain. It's mainly the needing to push with two hands thing that annoys me.

On the subject of pain releif, I'll definitely be hiring another TENS machine this time around. It's not really pain releif but definitely a worthwhile distraction

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 12:47

a lot of corporate systems don't allow myspace. i think it's because far too many people waste all day on there (or, they're like me and split wasting their day between myspace and mumsnet).

just got an email from the nappy lady, she recommends these
anybody heard of them/tried them?

argh! that keeps happening! it's really annoying....

laughalot · 16/10/2006 12:58

Urban you looked fab on your wedding day which one is the mil then ?

Daisy epidural pros : No pain whatsoever
cons : Dont know when to push because cant feel contractions, may have to have a assisted deleivery vontouse, forceps etc, can suffer with back pain afterwards, can slow contractions down. I was a wimp but it was right for me at that time.

Im happy my dh is back of cruise tomorrow I tell you what it has been nice having no sex

Daisypops · 16/10/2006 13:22

Thanks laughalot. Epidural it is then!!! I was chatting to someone the other week and he said his wife went in to labour and the hospital kept her at home for as long as possible and when she finally went in they said it was too late for pain relief Hope this isn't common?

DH away and your glad of no sex! My DP is around and we still don't have sex due to bump! I've forgotton how to do it. Will be like my first time again when we finally do it!!!

MotherBeaker · 16/10/2006 14:59

Hi daisypops, am feeling same as you - first labour, beginning to wake up in a cold sweat at night about it. I have also heard about getting too far along so they can't give you pain relief, I guess there is not much you can do about that but I would hate to be the people around me if that happens .

lol-also wondering about the trimming of down there before I go into labour, I know it is not supposed to matter, but I would still feel embarrased if there was too much foilage - iykwim . I was moaning to dh the other day about not being able to see it to do anything about it and he said - "Don't worry, I'll describe it to you" very helpful .

Am feeling quite tired now too - four more weeks to go of work - yippee.

UD - you look lovely in you photos, I like your dress and your pink flowers! AAhh to be getting married again - a lot less painful than giving birth I'm sure!

2MwahHaHaHappy · 16/10/2006 15:18

UD - gorgeous dress, and gorgeous flowers too
Pain relief - well I had pretty much everything going, so consider myself an expert ! I used TENS first, and didn't think it helped a bit, until I tried taking it off, ooooh then I realised how good it is! And yes, dh's do like the gadgety aspect of it, lol! Gas and air I found really good, pain relief plus it makes you regulate your breathing. Morphine does exactly what they tell you - it doesn't take the pain away, it takes you away from the pain, it's hard to describe, but fine (though I was sick to begin with). The epidural really didn't hurt going in, but once it's in, yes you're immobile. If there aren't complications and it's only in for pain relief, they can turn the rate down for pushing so you have some sensation. They do increase your risk of an instrumental delivery, without a doubt, although some of that is because certain people having epidurals are more likely to have instrumentals (induced, baby coming back to front, been in labour pigging hours and knackered mother etc). dsis arrived at hospital fully dilated so too late for anything (other than the tens she'd used at home) and said it hurt (and no-one gave her a medal either, lol!). The point is, you should be in control. If you want it, ask for it. If you're managing without, well done.
Public transport - aahh to live in a part of the world where there is public transport. Round here a bus turns up once a week on days without a "y" in the day and when the pigs aren't flying too low!
Lady garden - I had this conversation with my dsis recently, dh just hid! It's ridiculous how out of control it gets when pg, and from about now on, I can't see it to know how bad it's got!
Jodie - not heard from you since you joined the thread, just hoping you and the bubs are doing ok
Honestly, I had two different people today come up to me, one said how small my bump was, the other how big it is 14 more weeks of comments, sigh. And I think I must have a funny shaped bump because all my maternity trousers keep falling down, not good when I have ds in one arm and shopping in the other

Daisypops · 16/10/2006 15:36

Oh I'm glad I'm not on my own Motherbeaker. I start thinking about labour then have to make myself stop. I have a low pain threshold so I'm hoping for an epidural. Either way bubs has to come out but it doesn't stop me worrying about it. Even when I think 'oh theres epidural' theres the needle to think off and then tearing.
Motherbeaker-lucky you finishing in 4 weeks. I've got 9 weeks left to work. I've just booked loads of days holiday though to do my chrismas shopping.

Grooming my fanjo is another issue, it seems to be growing back quicker too. I told DP if he doesn't do it I'll ask one of his lovely uniformed mates to help me out !!! I know the midwives won't be bothered but I'll be self conscious anyway so having an overgrown fanjo would just make me even worse! Might just have to aim my razor and feel my way round!!!

UD-Lovely pics. Which one is MIL?

theUrbanDryad · 16/10/2006 15:51

the MIL is the (ahem) "older" lady looking like she's wearing sunglasses. if you click on the slideshow then hold your cursor over the photos there should be captions that tell you who's who (if you care that much!!)

shaving: i managed to shave it all off last week, by lifting up the rolls of flab and the bump i was able to see quite well. but then i've been doing "blind" for ages, on account of not being able to wear my glasses in the shower. DH was (quite rightly) very impressed. and (ahem) pleased.....i dunno. us newly-weds eh??

Daisypops · 16/10/2006 15:56

UD -I'm so jealous! Would love to have sex but just daren't. We tried a bit back and it hurt and then I had some very slight bleeding. Feeling quite fruity now I'm nearly in the 3rd trimester too! Like you all the fanjo hair is going to have to come off, I'd rather it all be gone than have a dodgy patchwork fanjo!
