Can I be nosey and ask about your maternity leave? How much is everyone taking, or are you going to be staying at home from now on?

Twittwooo · 28/08/2014 10:21

That's great news theone! So happy for you. I have a feeling we won't be so lucky as symptoms have gone and I can kind of sense it. We're on our way now so will update in a little while.

KentExpecting · 28/08/2014 10:44

Wonderful news theone... But the fingers are staying firmly crossed for twitt!!!

Maternity leave... I'm thinking 9 months. I get 100% of my salary for 16 weeks, then just SMP. I think that's pretty good? What kind of pay do you guys get?

persepolis123 · 28/08/2014 10:46

theone that is awesome! So Pleased for you Smile

Fingers crossed for twit and everyone else with scans today.

butterpuff with DS I took 10 months off – 9 months maternity and a month’s annual leave tagged on the end. This time I’m going to be a SAHM.

My mum and dad look after DS while I’m at work but my dad isn’t in great health and it would be unfair to expect him to look after two (my mum still works so isn’t always there). Plus I can’t afford childcare for two children, I don’t earn enough and wouldn’t be much worse off not working so decision made. I will enjoy my children for a little while then hope to go to university in a couple of years.

kent that's really good. I only get statutory maternity pay. 90% for 6 weeks then £135 a week.

fourmonthstogo · 28/08/2014 10:46

theone that's fantastic, so pleased to hear it.
butter I've recently changed jobs and due to getting pregnant much earlier than sensible I won't have a job to go back to. Which is v scary as I like working, at 3 days a week I have a great balance. Last time I had 10 1/2 months off. This time I'll have to keep an eye open as to what is out there.

fourmonthstogo · 28/08/2014 10:57

Am I really meant to be able to concentrate on work this morning with my scan in less than 3 hours!?

FoscarC · 28/08/2014 10:59

Oh theone I am so so happy for you!! Such good news. Had been holding my breath and just did a huge sigh of relief when I read your post.

Fingers crossed it is just as good a news for you twitt

I am very lucky with mat leave. Get 6 months full pay and then 3 months half pay then can get a further 3 months statutory pay of wanted but that's non pensionable (we get a non contributory pension). So I'll take 9 months then add my annual leave on the end so end up with about 10 - 11 months off. It's one of the best things about the army.

Butterpuff · 28/08/2014 11:03

Company policy is SMP only no extra's.
DH earns enough for me to be a SAHM if I choose, with us living in the house we are buying at the moment. He would like me to take a year off.

I would like to take a year off ideally.

However I am an owner director in the company my parents started 25 years ago. I share the running of it on a day to day basis with my brother. The family is putting pressure on me to 'keep involved' which I think may well turn into being on call and working at least part time (though flexible) from three months or earlier. They are talking about finding alternative cover for only one of my job roles.

I don't know what to do. Let down the family or give up on the idea of being at home with my child for the first year. So wondering what others are doing and what the average time at home completely away from work might be. Maybe I am being unreasonable in wanting a full year.

m33r · 28/08/2014 11:19

theone that is wonderful! I had a little cry. twitt thinking of you xx

DurhamRed · 28/08/2014 11:21

So pleased to hear all is OK the one

Fingers crossed for you twitt

Things are not so good today, tried to return to work and lasted all of 3 hours as I could not stop being sick! Doctor has signed me off for another 3 weeks of total rest. He won't let me return to work any earlier as he said I'll end up in hospital again if I try to return too soon :-(

I just want some normality and to start feeling well again!
