A few babies have already arrived, with more due to make their entrance soon, and it's not even September yet!

acorn I measured 35cm at my 36 week check, I've also heard they only worry if it's more than 3cm out. I've also heard it can vary dependent on different MWs measuring so it isn't exact, plus remember that dating scans are +/- 5 days, so you could actually be almost a week less pregnant than you think anyway.

Can't remember who asked about back pain but unfortunately it isn't necessarily a sign of anything, mine has been killing me since Monday :(

TeamEponine · 23/08/2014 16:16

Thanks for putting the update together Red

Am currently having a really lazy day. I just don't have the energy to move off the couch Sad

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 23/08/2014 16:36

Velvet, do you have a chart with your personalised measurements on? Not sure if it's done in every trust but I've been told they don't follow the cm-wk measurement anymore. Apparently the chart is based on your height and weight and previous babies. I'm meant to measure 2cm smaller than gestation to be on 50th centile so 36cm at 38weeks if that makes sense? Plus then take into consideration human error for +/- 2cm means you can be out by a lot and it doesn't make a difference. Think they like to just see you're following a nice natural line on a chart rather than being a certain number.

Tea have you just thought about ff if you feel like this about bf? Don't let anyone else's views affect you, you decide what's best for you and baby.

RedToothBrush · 23/08/2014 16:50

ShowMe, I have one of those charts. According to that, I should be 33 - 35cm at 38weeks (10th to 90th centiles based on my height/weight at booking in). I'm not. I'm 38cm.

Therefore I'm in a situation where the Trust that does the chart thinks I am above where I should be. But my midwife who is in another Trust is perfectly happy saying I'm bang on for dates and is completely happy with it. She says there is no need for a growth scan. (I have raised it with her as I was a bit worried).

I have put on a HUGE amount of weight, so I'm not hugely surprised. And I think I would be concerned if the growth hadn't been so steady and consistent. The little ninja isn't giving any other cause for concern either atm. (I've obviously just eaten too many pies).

According to this personalised chart, the baby seems to be headed towards 9lbs 5 at 40 weeks (I'm having an ELCS so am booked in a few days before this). I am viewing this with an enormous amount of scepticism. I think its liable to be relatively big for my size (I was 7lbs 4 and considered big for my Mum) but not THAT huge.

So I have come to the conclusion that fundal height is pretty much bollocks and is only ever a guestimate/guide. Afterall, these things are all calculated on averages; so women who are much taller/shorter than the average are much more likely not to fit in with the predictions.

dontevenblink · 23/08/2014 16:51

Grr, can't sleep Sad It's 3.48 am here, woke up to go to toilet and started thinking about stuff and now can't get back to sleep...

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 23/08/2014 17:04

Red I agree and as long as there doesn't seem to be any huge dips or curves I can't see a problem. The weight at 40 weeks seems totally plucked out of thin air more of a guesstimate than anything.

velvetlilithi · 23/08/2014 19:39

ShowMe I have some abdominal circumference growth chart printed in my maternity notes, but haven't been told anything about it so far, so have no idea what does it mean Smile. And nothing about 10th or 90th centiles either. I feel stupid Sad
My mw has never even talked about baby's growth Sad, only measured uterus and told me result but never if that's okay or not. I've found more info online which was basically number of weeks= size of uterus in cms.

I was little bit worried about size, cause I wasn't gaining weight properly and have a quite small bump. I've been underweight for whole my life, I've tried to eat a lot and healthy through pregnancy, but around 28 weeks I've started to lose appetite and actually lost 1.5 kg in 2 weeks. Then I gained it in just one week, even though didn't eat more. Always told midwife but she didn't say anything.

I'm just worried baby's small and not growing properly. I wasn't told any estimated weight or size of baby so have no idea.

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 23/08/2014 20:02

Oh velvet Sad don't feel bad. They're really not accurate for weight anyway. If they were really concerned they'd be scanning you regularly. Try not to worry, not long now and you'll be cuddling that bundle! Smile

Acorncat · 23/08/2014 20:27

Anyone else really struggling for a name still? I've been through countless online lists and baby name books but there's just nothing I can imagine actually using. I don't want anything too popular and it must sound like its spelt (nightmare surname!) but apart from that not too fussy. It's like there's a couple of generation of names are ruled out because they were popular when I was young (eg Stephen, grant, Paul), then the ones that are popular now (eg jack, alfie, Oliver) and then the ones that are really old that would be a bit mean to use (Wilber, Eugene, Horace). There's nothing particular wrong with these names either - aaarrgh!!

RedToothBrush · 23/08/2014 20:40

I've found more info online which was basically number of weeks= size of uterus in cms. Its not. Thats just a guide thats not appropriate to everyone.

If the midwife isn't concerned, I wouldn't be too concerned. Especially is everything else is going ok.

Even scans can be 2lb out! Which is why I'm not putting too much weight on what seems to be estimated. Nor am I too worried that I haven't been referred for growth scans.

RedToothBrush · 23/08/2014 20:56

Acorn, we are struggling.

We have a couple of idea, but they are a bit out there though not really weird (familiar enough to people to cope with and they do sound like they are spelt).

Then the other ideas we have are perhaps too popular for our taste or everyone else we know has already 'nicked' them.

You can't win.

cookielove · 23/08/2014 20:57

Hello all, been a bit awol!

Congratulations to all the lovely new babies! And mummies!

Hmmm I'm still struggling with bf, Eli isn't really waking up to demand feed, I wake him every 4 hrs. He feeds roughly for 15 mins although has done longer and then is topped up with a bottle.

He came home today!

Topsyloulou · 24/08/2014 07:32

Cookie it must be lovely to have him home with you. Hope you had a good first night.

AlwaysandForever09 · 24/08/2014 08:46

Bet that's lovely being home now cookie :)
Congrats to kicks! Can't believe how many babies have been born and were only Aug still!
Well I'm 37+3 and have had enough! The spd pain is ridiculous now :( had this really hot curry last night for dinner, hasn't done anything though! Just gave me heartburn for a bit :(
Babies obviously very comfy in there. My midwife has hardly discussed how engaged he might be or gone into detail about anything, I was measuring 2 weeks ahead again last week when I had the home visit, she put it down to not laying on one of their beds in the surgery though?!

September 2014 - Babies are starting to make an appearance!
cookielove · 24/08/2014 08:47

Top it is so nice to be home. But he has reverted back to only wanting bottles again!

whiteblossom · 24/08/2014 09:17

bug just seen pics of dexter which I had missed, he is just adorable!!
Always when I first saw pic of scorching curry, it was kinda funny but I quickly realised its just not is it! we get so desperate to get things moving we will try anything. How on earth you managed to eat that...phew

CumbrianExile · 24/08/2014 09:29

Always I had chilli for tea last night. With extra spices in it, and all I ended up with was a little heartburn too Hmm

Cookie bet its lovely to be home. I can't offer too much advise on the feeding front, as I intend to bottle feed from birth, but try not to beat yourself up. I think the main thing is that he is feeding? Hopefully somebody will be able to offer some better advise to try and revert back to ebf soon.

LH1981 · 24/08/2014 09:32

We're struggling for a name too. We are expecting our 3rd DS, and we picked slightly unusual names for our boys so trying to agree on something that fits is turning out to be a nightmare!

Still contracting, still no progress. Tried unsuccessfully to dtd this morning but it seems impossible - I'm so huge and so uncomfortable! Always that Vindaloo is looking like a possibility - they do something called Devilled Squid in the curry house by us, which is basically squid rings in a sea of chillies - hmmm?!

xxmissbrightsidexx · 24/08/2014 15:06

Glad Elijah is home now cookie x

I don't think id dare to have a hot hot curry, would be scared of getting the squits in labour lol x Think I might get some clary sage oil & raspberry leaf tea, used both when I was pregnant with youngest, I think they helped, I get really bad aches & pains the clary sage really helps me to relax but did give strong BH x not in a mad rush to get her out anyway, want her to cook in there as long as possible x

whiteblossom · 24/08/2014 15:13

omg I need this baby out. Get it out, get it out.

So much for the reflexologist telling me to relax as it would help more!!!!!

I just cant relax about it. I want to cry.

cookielove · 24/08/2014 16:14

I get so emotional discussing his feeding, I feel like I am failing and I am really tired!

Jemsiem · 24/08/2014 16:35

I have been a super lurker- been following this thread since about 5 weeks preggo back in January! Due a baby girl (though wouldn't be declaring myself team pink as not a pink fan!) on 20th September so 36 weeks today- although I think (hope) it will be later as lots of work to do! I never thought I'd post but then was so struck by the message by cookielove about feeling like a failure that I felt I had to....

Take a read of this if you have the energy honey you will feel a gazillion times better....

doctoranddaughter.co.uk/the-case-against-breastfeeding-by-hanna-rosin/

don't be put off by the title it's not really a rampant case against breastfeeding but just an interesting perspective on the history of it and why we feel so much pressure etc. I'm defo not anti breastfeeding and will try it myself but as a health professional I think happy mum is the best outcome for baby.....

Anyway hi to everyone on here- excited to finally join the party!
