I sympathise, gun. Got two hours last night, was convinced something was happening as kept getting the tightenings, plus pressure plus period pains... It's going to be a long 6 weeks if I don't relax!

We don't have a huge choice of childcare over here - it's quite common for families to have a day nanny (it's not expensive at all, like probably 50 pounds a week), but I don't know if I'd trust anyone enough yet. We've enrolled the baby in one of the free nurseries (which in comparison to the hospitals are actually really good - they read, play, interact, teach English etc.) The only downside is that she'll be going there 45 days after birth, as is the maternity leave here. That'll be hard!

When she's 2, she can come with me to school, but that's a long way away!

Just caught up on the thread, can't remember who said what since Friday now so not even going to try.

Had a manic weekend at my sister's wedding. 11 hour car journey down then spent all Fri night/ Sat morning decorating the barn for her reception before getting ready in less than half an hour for her wedding. Danced most of Saturday night and spent Sunday Sat mainly in a beer garden so my back is absolutely agony!

I'm so pleased we stayed over in the Lakes last night to break up the journey. I was hoping for a nice lie in this morning but been almost awake since 1am and fully awake from 5am Sad my baby seems to just want to dance all night at the mo!

Heading to the Beatrix Potter shop today to buy some baby stuff. We were here this time last year on a week of scrambling and hill walking... how things have changed!

my list of things I can't wait for is never ending a few are:
Not having severe back/hip pain
Being able to sleep in back/ tummy
Wine!
Hopefully being able to eat meat and have lactose again
Being able to climb, hill walk, snowboard, horse ride etc etc
Not having something wriggling around inside me 24/7, at 34 weeks it Still freaks me out Blush

binkybunny · 26/08/2014 06:10

For nursery I'm putting her name down here www.mindstretchers.co.uk/nature-kindergartens.cfm for her to go from 2years. Looks amazing!

Re labour signs- With ds my mucous plug went one night when I went for wee but nothing happened. It kept going for the next week! Exactly 1 week before I went into proper labour I was up in the night with contractions. When I had a bath they stopped. The next night same again.
I then had nothing for a few nights bar the odd patch here and there, then the day before he was born I went to mw and she sent me to hosp to check my bp. I said I had been having contractions but they dismissed them as tightenings. When they examined me I was 4cm so I have no idea whether I had been 4cm for a week, or that day but just got used to the contractions or what! They sent me to labour ward and ds was born next day. I got to 8 cm pretty quickly after being on ward and contractions really ramped up but I never really found them too painful. My mum keeps reminding me this labour could be much quicker. I'm also scared incase I don't cope as well with the pain like last time.

SweetPeaPods · 26/08/2014 07:11

Binky I love the Beatrix potter shop. They do some gorgeous prints in frames. Ds has a lovely musical Peter rabbit toy that hangs next to his changing unit.

queenasanti3 · 26/08/2014 07:44

Hi everyone, going for my 34 week check up soon, this baby has been giving me strange movements, I can stil feel things poking out like hands/ feet across thr middle part of my body, dont know what it is, by this point last time I remember the movements just being the bum sticking out, so will be interesting to see what postion she thinks its in, can wait to find out what the heart rate is as using thst theory at the min to guess what it may be, cant believe I only have 5 weeks 6 days left, really need to start organising myself x

pinkfizzsparkles · 26/08/2014 07:57

With my first I had no signs and woke up at 2.30am with period pain that was coming in waves every 10 mins. I felt a pop and my waters started trickling. Hospital said to go in and she was born at 9.30am. With my second I felt strange during the day, quite tearful and a bit down and I had a good 'clear out'. Again it started with period pain every 10 mins about 8pm. I think the fact the period pain wasn't constant and coming in waves every 10 mins was what made me think I was in labour. Hospital told me to go in straight away and he was born at 2am. I anticipated my second being quicker and it was only by about an hour. I have no idea how this will go. I've heard people say your 3rd can be the unpredictable one but who knows?!

Kirstipops · 26/08/2014 08:05

Can't wait to pay a visit to the Beatrix Potter shop Binky! Heading down there on 27th December for a week, baby's first holiday Grin
Carpal tunnel is definitely here, could hardly pick up my phone to turn my alarm off this morning! Such a weird sensation but glad it's not sore at least.
Queen the heartbeat thing still throws md, not every mw I've had writes down the BPM but all but 1 times with the doppler it has sounded like a train (though more like a dog with a husky bark IMO!), were I to believe the majority of old wives tales I'd be having a boy, the bump shape/height is so silly though, I can't believe people actually seem to put any stock in that one!

YellowWellies · 26/08/2014 08:26

Binky J's school nursery is a forest kindergarten one day a week - I love the idea!

Kirstipops · 26/08/2014 08:33

Binky that Kindergarten looks amazing!

binkybunny · 26/08/2014 08:39

I think there's a 2 year waiting list so even though we're not sure we'll be in Scotland I'm going to put her name down for a few days a week so I can study/work/regain my sanity!

SweetPeaPods · 26/08/2014 08:44

Pinkfizz talking of a good 'clear out' does anyone else panic when they need to go that it's the clear out starting or is it just me?! Tmi alert, but if I go more than once I'm getting into a right panic that labour is going to start soon.
I really don't know why I have a nagging feeling this little boy is going to come early. Really wishing oct will hurry up to prove me wrong.

Shirehobbit · 26/08/2014 08:52

I remember a lot of women on the Oct13 bus having nausea and 'clear outs' for a good few weeks as the babies started arriving - it certainly didn't help the nerves! For some it was the onset of labour, for others not.
I had no signs with DS and my waters went, completely without warning and before the onset of labour, which set me off on a very unexpected course (it's called prolonged rupture of membranes). I'd be lying if I didn't admit to feeling a bit apprehensive this time, especially as everyone seems set on telling me no2 is likely to be early with a faster labour, but I'm determined to stay as chilled as I can about it all.

Pregnantagain7 · 26/08/2014 08:53

I've never had a show, never had a Braxton hicks, never had period pains nothing!
My first I woke up from a nap switched the kettle on had a contraction knew straight away that's what it was they started ever ten mins gradually got closer together and more intense. First contraction was 3pm left for hospital at 11 that night dd born at 4.45 next morn.
The other two were inductions so no signs obviously.

I'm in totally awe of you ladies renovating houses I actually cried yesterday because I desperately needed to clear out the toy cupboards and couldn't bend down to do it. Dp helped in the end, we cleared 8 bin bags of crap with dd2 helping saying I need that that's mine about every broken bit of plastic!!

Feel totally knackered today I seem to be able to do one day of cleaning sorting then the next day need to put my feet up, we found so many toys the kids had forgotten about yesterday I'm hoping they will play with them today and let me chill a bit :)

Pregnantagain7 · 26/08/2014 08:56

Oh and kirsti or anyone else with carpal tunnel I had it with my second it's very odd isn't it mine was completely gone within a week of giving birth. My midwife did say I could have splints made if it got too uncomfortable. :)

Me23 · 26/08/2014 08:59

My first labour started with stomach cramps and feeling like I needed to poo (back to back baby) this got closer and stronger by which point I clocked it must be contractions. I coped quite well because I was 7cm by time I went to hospital.

With my 2nd my waters went (in middle of supermarket Hmm ) but no contractions so I was induced.

I'm hoping things are straight forward this time there's the theory that 2nd labours are easy and quick and 3rd are trouble and stop start so I'm hoping as my 2nd was long and complicated the 3rd will be a doddle! Wink

It looks like the painting may be done in time for baby after all OH friend is coming over to help in 2 weeks.

mum2kiss · 26/08/2014 09:42

My dd went to nursery starting with a day each week when she was 8 months old then building up from there to 5 days a week when she was 5 years old. I discovered that independent schools offer nursery places at a fraction of the price of full day care nurseries and obviously offering much higher standards of learning so we switched to independent when she was 2 and she stayed until she started state school at 4.5yrs old. Best decision ever for us and hope to do the same again this time.

I have always been anti childminder because I've just seen and heard so many horror stories. You really need an absolute gem and they are not easy to come by! I don't like the lack of accountability and also if they are ever ill you're a bit stuck! Of course I've also heard horror stories about nurseries too but I feel hopeful that with more staff around there would hopefully be less chance of my child being mistreated. My dd had the same key worker for the duration of her time at the nursery where I work and she loved her. They also has secondary key workers for when their main one wasn't there but she has happy with all the staff. She was always happy to go in and never suffered with separation anxiety. That's just my experience though...

There's a childminder that picks up from dd's school who I can not stand. She drives like a maniac in her people carrier and completely ignores the children in her care unless shes shouting at them to keep up as she marches off down the road. One day she had marched on ahead as usual and one of her pre - schoolers had wet herself...was soaked all down both legs and she hadn't even noticed! She doesn't even look back to see where the little ones are. ..I've seen kids come out of school and realise they are going with her and burst into tears....not a nice lady at all!

binkybunny · 26/08/2014 09:51

Does anyone else get debilitating stomach cramps with the slightest of exercise? I'm sure it's just my body telling me to slow down or stop, but on Sunday I went for a gentle walk by the river and ended up leaning over a railing looking like I was going into Labour. I was even more scared when it felt like my hips had unhinged as that was one of my friends first signs of labour. 2 days later and I'm guessing it's nothing but does slightly worry me, I too have a strange feeling this baby might arrive a wee bit early Hmm.

bumpbangbump · 26/08/2014 10:26

I'm another who had no early warnings of labour. In hindsight I must have been in early stages during the night as I slept badly and felt a bit crappy. I genuonly thought it was the constipation and wind as I'd as quite a lot of pain with that.

It was only when my mom, an ex midwife, came round early that morning to keep me company in my hefferlump misery that I acknowledged I was in labour. My"misery" was coming every 5 minutes it seemed Grin By the time I got to triage I was 8cm! Hoping I'm a bit more in time with myself this time as I wouldn't mind getting in the pool before I'm ready to push this time... Felt so unstable and hot I had to get back out.

gunwalloe · 26/08/2014 10:45

Last night was the first time I've had Braxton hicks in 5 pregnancys and holy cow there horrible! Not painful enough to feel like real labour but just strong enough to cause discomfort and put a doubt in your mind as to what they are. I'm amazed just how different every pregnancy can be I had SPD in the last two so was expecting it this time and it hasn't happened. In 2,3 and 4 I was drinking bottles of gaviscon but this time no heartburn.

fatpony · 26/08/2014 11:18

What a busy thread! We got loads done over the bank holiday - did a big John Lewis shop and bought the cot etc etc, visited friends on the south coast, braved IKEA on a bank holiday Monday, assembled a book case, did a food shop. Really pleased!

Need to seriously think about nurseries and child minders as where we live in north London they tend to have waiting lists apparently. The baby will need full time care from six months as that's when I'll go back to work.

In other good news I fixed my ML start date of Thurs 26th September - have been dithering for ages and have agreed with work that if I still feel fine then I'll continue for a little longer. Basically don't want to start my paid leave too early but do want to do loads of batch cooking for the freezer and so on!

LondonJen · 26/08/2014 11:22

Gosh, feel like we're all on high alert now! Really interesting to read everyones tales of labour starting.

Bit late to the hiccups comments but I had only felt those once until very recently. As I'd read it was from baby practising breathing I actually found it hugely reassuring that I have felt them every day now for the last week! Sorry to hear the scariness of Dr google. He is always mean!

I've also had first tightenings which I think are Braxton Hicks though hardly every painful just hard bump. This has also been in the last week so whilst I don't think labour is imminent I do think things have ramped up a notch here.

Lost my appetite over the weekend. And think baby has developed some new fist strength,am getting properly thunked low down but feet still seem to be at the top of my bump.

This morning I booked myself on the hospital's Breastfeeding Class. Really looking forward to it. Presume will get to practise 'holds' on a doll or some such! Really lucky to have it available.

ohthegoats · 26/08/2014 11:37

Haaaaaaaa.. no toilet in the house since 8am this morning, I can't hang on anymore - going to have to go to the supermarket to wee!

Lily31 · 26/08/2014 12:16

Hello everyone. Hope you don't mind me pulling up a chair. It's my first visit to the mumsnet boards and I've enjoyed reading everyone's updates.
I am off work at the moment with pelvic girdle pain - what a mare!

It's distracting and reassuring to read everyone's posts though. I am counting the last 9 weeks down, cannot wait to meet my first lo. I think lo is nestled deep into my left pelvis and seems quite content there. I even tried to shift baby by doing a handstand in the swimming pool yesterday - had read it might work?!? No joy... this is how desperate I am getting to shift the pain. Any other tips?? Thanks all

Captainmcgraw · 26/08/2014 13:34

I think this might have been discussed before so apologies if so but has anyone found any comfy fitting/loose bottoms (e.g. joggers or yoga pants) for suitability after birth? I'm thinking with C-section I'll need something nice and baggy over tummy and don't have any maternity comfy trousers.

Ideally to buy online as can't face trawling round shops!

3 weeks left at work and C-section 4 weeks today eek!
