yellow my little darling is breech and i am getting mahoosive kicks into my cervix, also seems to be hitting a nerve in my back and i suddlenly yelp in pain... My dd keeps saying .."mummy is the baby coming" and im convinced if dp had his you know what up there he would deffo get a foot rub (!) doubt she will turn now .., as my first never, think my dodgy pelvis must be uncomfortable for them!!

clairemiss79 · 15/08/2014 19:52

pregnantagain7 I'm having my fourth and afterpains were bad with my third but then so were the piles, boobs etc. I've been struggling with the thought of having 4 recently cos 3 seems to have me at my limit. Does anyone else on here have 4? I'm also totally dreading labour birth etc

Kirstipops · 15/08/2014 19:58

Well I had a wee scarybiscuits day. Good driving lesson in the morning, a long lunch and then straight to work; where an hour after starting I nipped to the loo and saw some bright red blood on wiping, rang my midwife who gave me 2 phone numbers for my hospital (I don't carry my notes with me so didn't know them, I flipping will be carrying them about with me now!!!) - first number rang out, the other had a "call ended" after one ring. Googled another number and tried it, which went to an answer machine. Luckily my work is less than 15 mins drive from the hospital so my boss drove me there. I was hooked up to a monitor, bloods taken, BP taken countless times and speculum/swabbing exam done (ugh), the upshot of it which was that my little one is as happy as Larry and they reckon I have thrush which has possibly caused the irritated fanjo (I had no symptoms of thrush but they seemed convinced by the swab which has been sent to lab). They then wouldn't let me leave until my heart rate had calmed the fk down, so gave me a jug of water to drink and time to chill out, then let me go with a pessary and cream once my heart had slowed down satisfactorily!! Still feeling a bit shell shocked by it all tbh, now parked on the settee for the forseeable!

Sparkle you might have over packed a wee bit but everyone does first time.

I've got a wee hand luggage size case for me (one zipped half for labour, one half for after), and a courier bag with baby stuff.

Am a bit freaked about the footling breech given my history of early labour and the fact my waters tend to go before I start labour. I was told if my waters go I should immediately lie flat (in no circumstances should I sit down) or with bum in the air and call an ambulance so as to avoid the 15-20% risk of a cord prolapse Confused Confused Confused . We are 2 minutes drive from the hospital - you can see it from our garden but we were told nope we have to call 999 Shock .

So I am mostly going to be walking an hour a day, doing inversions and plonking bags of frozen peas on baby's head to get them to turn! On the plus side they won't risk ECV because its a footling and I've got an anterior placenta. And whilst 15% are breech at 30 weeks only 5% are at 33 so there's good odds s/he will turn.

Pregnantagain7 · 15/08/2014 20:23

claire I know what you mean somedays I think oh it will be fine and other days like today when my youngest has been really poorly with a viral infection I actually think wtf am I doing!
How old are your other children? I found out I was pregnant when my youngest was 14 weeks old so will have a small gap he will be around 13 months when this one arrives. I also have two girls aged 3 and 9. I'm thinking about trying to get a prescription from the doc for pain killers for afterwards last time was really bad I'm actually more concerned about the than the birth!
By the way so as not to frighten anyone you normally only get these after pains after 3+ children it's your knackered stretched uterus contracting back after the birth and bloody hell it hurts Grin

kirsti omg that must have been so frightening for you so glad to hear everything is ok :)

I have a very unusual name (well in England not so much in Italy) think female Versace! I hated it growing up but quite like it now at least people remember it, I used to shorten it when I was teenager to a common English name but don't do that anymore.

Anyone really lost their appetite? Have had food shop delivered today but can't make a decision on what to eat! :)

YellowWellies · 15/08/2014 20:23

Kirsti eeek cross post! Glad you're all safe and sound x

SweetPeaPods · 15/08/2014 20:28

Kirsti that sounds scary but glad everything ok.

I've heard after pains are worse with subsequent pregnancies, my mum was convinced she was in labour again. I'm not looking forward to them. One of the benefits of asking for an epidural apparently is they take a while to fully wear off so you don't feel after pains as bad. Not sure if any truth in it. I remember feeling like I had been hit by a train after having ds but I was pushing for a couple of hours so blamed that. Really wasn't warned at NCT how bad you could feel after but some of my friends felt absolutely fine.

Anyone expecting 3rd or 4 th I would love to hear your tips for introducing new baby to siblings. Ds will only be 16m so starting to panic here

Shirehobbit · 15/08/2014 20:30

I'm not surprised your blood pressure and HR were up, Kirsti! Sounds horribly stressful Brew

I hadn't even thought about after pains! But a friend who had her second the same day I had my first, really suffered with them. Eeeeeek.

fatpony · 15/08/2014 20:41

Hello all newbies!

Has anyone bought a breast pump yet? There's a discount in the nct magazine for a Medellla swing breast pump (£99) but they seem so pricey and for something that I am not going to particularly enjoy using!

Pregnantagain7 · 15/08/2014 20:43

Sorry sweet I didn't find my epidural helped at all but maybe because they are lighter now than they used to be I got up and walked about 15 mins after I delivered the placenta.
I bought the other dcs a present from the baby just something small but I always find bribery works Grin
shire don't worry too much some people don't get them at all I had no pains after my first and with my second I could feel tightenings when I was breast feeding but more uncomfortable than painful :)

Pregnantagain7 · 15/08/2014 20:49

Ooh meant to say if anyone has baby things left to buy check out Lester's nursery world fab place it's a shop in Manchester but do online too. You can get some amazing buys I have saved about £200 on my buggy. They sell everything and stock most makes am going over tomorrow morning to collect god knows what I'm going to ended up coming back with probably half the shop!!

Shirehobbit · 15/08/2014 21:01

I live in the NW pregnantagain and I'd never heard of Lester's Nursery! Thanks for the tip Smile

YellowWellies · 15/08/2014 21:01

I had horrible after pains with number one. I was so knackered and dazed I was like "help my body still thinks I'm in labour!!!!!" BF really calmed them thankfully as it helps your uterus contract more gently.

mrsb87 · 15/08/2014 21:03

Oh no kirsti I hope you've managed to chill out now? Lots of rest for you!

Somehow I've managed to to a whole afternoon of doing hair. To cut and blow drys and a colour. So so tired now! Serious bump ache now too. It's felt like baby has wanted out all afternoon but through my skin! Constant pushing and kicking, ouch!! I will be spending my weekend chilling out whilst dh makes progress on the big bathroom project.

Scary Kirsti I am glad they took good care of you and that you're home now.

Hard to say Sparkle bless you! I haven't tried to pack everything in the case yet but think the dressing gown (yet to buy) and towel are going to take up a ridiculous amount of room. Planning to wash first baby things including starter set for coming home tomorrow, really looking forward to it!

Wow 3 or 4 kids. I just can't imagine. DP asked me yesterday when I thought I might want a 2nd. Er... pass!

Pregnantagain7 · 15/08/2014 21:21

I would suggest buying the thinnest dressing gown you can the post natal ward was unbelievably hot but still useful to cover you a bit if walking round.

YellowWellies · 15/08/2014 21:24

Yes my big fluffy dressing gown was useless last time - too blimmin hot. Those lovely thin cotton maternity gowns from Etsy that someone linked to are perfect. I've bought one (and 2 BF kaftans whoops)

SweetPeaPods · 15/08/2014 21:27

Fatpony the medela swing is great, very easy to use/clean etc.

Shirehobbit · 15/08/2014 21:39

I felt most comfy in yoga pants and vests rather than a nightie/dressing gown on the ward.

ohthegoats · 15/08/2014 21:58

Yep, I've put in harem pants, vest tops and a floppy cardi if needed (made of jersey fabric, so not too thick).

ExcitedCJ · 15/08/2014 22:02

Hello new thread & lots of newbies, it's starting to get rather cosy on here. Lots of company when we can't sleep/have twinges/scary times. :)

Kirsti glad all is OK

Question? Do you get cervix tightening/after birth pains if you have had a C-section previously?

I did something rather delicious today - I put my out of office reply on saying I was on holiday for 2 weeks & then would be back to do a 2 1/2 week handover before I start mat leave until Oct 2015! :) The thought is making me rather delerious with excitement! I go off at 37 wks & will be well & truly ready at that point!
Sorry that some of you don't have maternity cover sorted yet, must be rather stressful.

Pregnantagain7 · 15/08/2014 22:06

cj I'm not sure but I would imagine yes I don't think it would matter how you deliver because your uterus still needs to contract back down to usual size?! Confused not 100% sure though.

FatFlashingLazer · 15/08/2014 22:46

fatpony I've been wondering about whether to invest in a breast pump or not too. I want to breast feed but you never know if it's going to work out ok so I was thinking of waiting until after the baby is born to get it. Thought maybe if I needed one in the hospital or straight after I could always hire one. It seems a lot of money for something that might never get used.

Had my whooping cough jab earlier - no where near as painful as the anti-d I had at 28 weeks, but I've got a bit of a dead arm now. Don't feel too bad apart from that though which is great.
