With regards to injection, I had no choice as ended up in theatre for forceps with ds. They gave me anti sickness at same time so don't let that put you off. Just warn your DH not to look down that end when the dr is pulling your placenta out as apparently it's not pretty!!
I've bought a close caboo for this baby. Didn't use one for ds but thought I needed something this time so I can still carry on with ds.
Very impressed with all the DIY. Our plan for today was to put a couple of stair gates up and all we managed was to take 1 out the box!!

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 16/08/2014 19:30

I had delayed cord clamping with DS Followed by the injection to release the placenta. Will definitely be having delayed clamping but the injection made me sick which wasn't fun so think I'll see how i go without it this time. Although the thought of prolonging labour to birth the placenta naturally isn't particularly appealing!

There isn't a lot of space in my notes for a birth plan but going to write some bits down anyway. Although i don't think anyone looked at it last time so definitely agree that your birth partner needs to be clued up!

robindeer · 16/08/2014 19:30

Great info about the injection. I definitely want delayed cord clamping (had even read about cord collection but it appears to be a USA thing and the benefits are unclear long-term).

Bumpforme2014 · 16/08/2014 19:42

You guys are scaring me with how much you know, I've not had a single conversation with midwife/consultant about giving birth. Antenatal class and NCT don't start until early sept I feel very unprepared for what to expect.

Video monitors, I did quite a bit of research and we got the BT one as reviews were good and mid range price wise, tested it and seems really good.

binkybunny · 16/08/2014 19:45

Thanks for the replies about the jab, sorry another question (need to be brave and read the bit in my book about birth I think!) what are the benefits about delayed cord clamping? How long is the delay?

binkybunny · 16/08/2014 19:46

bump I'm feeling the same and too scared/ squeemish to read up just yet!

Pregnantagain7 · 16/08/2014 19:48

Aaah so the injection makes you sick that's why I always throw up my tea and toast afterwards!!

Dp has sickness bug came on this afternoon he usually helps with bath time but had to do it by myself the lifting in and out was fun! Also couldn't get close enough because of the huge bump which has been nicknamed bumpzilla!

I've never really used ebay before but we found loads of stuff we don't need anymore when clearing out for the baby so put it on omg it's addictive! I keep looking round the house for things to sell Grin if a child stands still too long I may well sell it Grin
My single pram/buggy is on at the mo and about to end I'm quite excited it's already on £250 I'm hoping for a bit more at the end, lots of watchers do looking good, if not someone will have a bargain!

fatpony · 16/08/2014 20:02

pregnantagain - we've sold a few things on ebay this pregnancy and it is addictive. I put the money straight into our joint account to buy nice things for the baby.

Has anyone had nausea brought on by the baby moving a lot? I've had little nausea this pregnancy (am v lucky) but was having a lovely afternoon with friends when the baby moved constantly for a couple of hrs and the nausea seems associated with that. Had to come home and go to bed as thought I was going to be sick (saliva in mouth etc). Silly baby!

ldt87 · 16/08/2014 20:06

What!! Thought I had come over and posted on here and it's not appeared,so anyway thank you for the new thread. I'm 32+2 today and feeling OK, have most of what we need for the baby now so feeling morerelaxed. Going to Scotland on Friday for a week so my older girls are looking forward to that too.

How is everyone doing? When are people packing hospital bags? Xx

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 16/08/2014 20:06

Binky, i am a big advocate of cord clamping Grin. It allows the blood still left in the cord to go into the babies body meaning they get all the extra iron and are less likely to get jaundice. DS was a wonderful pink colour which i am sure is down to the delayed clamping.

Usually cutting is delayed until it stops pulsating (think it took about 15 mins for us). Contrary to popular belief you can even have delayed clamping with a c section Smile

weeonion · 16/08/2014 20:24

Hi folks.... Been lurking but not posting....

30 weeks today - due 25th (the same as hello I think??) My mat leave due to start on 24th Oct - I dont have v good terms and can't afford to be off for long so trying yo save it for after baby arrives!!

I am still hoping for home birth and tbh haven't thought about a hospital bag or buying new clothes for ward but guess I should!
This one is lying transverse so been doing my arched back exercises and inversions....

fedupofrainydays · 16/08/2014 21:07

Got bad lower back and bump pain today. Started to feel worried about early labour again. Currently at SIL bday party but knackered so hiding out in our bedroom with ds. All the other kids are still up and running up and down screaming outside our door. Think it's going to be a long night....

ExcitedCJ · 16/08/2014 21:14

You lot are great. Just wrote my birth plan, thanks Goats & Yellow etc for advice.
Also spoke to my DH about rules/support through the process. Once I've finished Juju Sundin & Marie Mongan I'm going to work on some coping mechanisms with DH and what to do ifs...
Funny, feel much more in control & relaxed this time despite doing a really expensive Hypnobirthing class last time & then ending with a ECS!
Fedup good luck!

Me23 · 16/08/2014 21:19

Just so people are aware if you are planning on not having the injection or 3rd stage (physiological) then this is only recommended if you have had an intervention free birth I.e you didn't have epidural or need syntocinon drip during labour as these can interfere with normal physiological processes wrt 3rd stage.

I will definitely be having delayed cord clamping (it is starting to become routine at every birth and I believe the new nice guidelines will be recommending it as do the resus council) I haven't made a decision re physiological vs active as yet however my anaemia is making me lean towards active (the injection) I don't want syntometrine though as gave me awful headache and sickness after 1st birth had syntocinon with 2nd as Bp was slightly high after birth (syntometrine can raise Bp) and I didn't have any side effects.

At the sling library yesterday I pretty much decided on this one if I need something in the house: www.pouchlings.com/Subshops-RingSlings.html

We got the Boba 4G for outside/boyfriend doing some of the carrying. Can use from newborn, it 'hangs' a baby in the right way, and it fits both of us.

ohthegoats · 16/08/2014 21:34

Oh, and the bit that hangs down (I'm keen to avoid something that hangs around me), can be tucked up around behind the baby's head - partly to provide newborn support, partly just to get it out of the way if you want to.

Shirehobbit · 16/08/2014 21:37

I ordered a Close Caboo today, Buggerlugs as I preferred that to the Boba Stretchy I hired for DS as a newborn. Do you have a sling library near you? I've found my local one to be an absolute godsend and have worked my way through most of their stock - as someone said earlier, it's like an addiction!

I swear this baby is trying to break out - they're unbelievably active at the moment. Last time, I had an anterior placenta, so barely felt anything except hiccups and felt quite sad I was missing out, somehow. What I wouldn't give for that cushioning effect right now....

Shirehobbit · 16/08/2014 21:38

I loved the library's Boba 4G, goats and hired it for 12wks straight. I ended up buying a Babyhawk Oh Snap instead, though as they were on sale and have the crossback straps.

I wish I'd gone in advance last time - a very bemused DH ended up going on my behalf when DS was three days old to try and get us something!

MundayCakes85 · 16/08/2014 22:49

Evening all, just back from date night- out for dinner and a film. Lots of laughing makes bump ache Smile
Another one here with a baby trying to escape, whole belly moving in different directions with feet and bum pushing outwards.

ExcitedCJ · 16/08/2014 23:39

Munday lucky you... Dare night. I am currently being subjected to my DH beery snores beside me. If I could add a sound recording I would share the pleasure with you all!

For the carrier obsessives I have another on my list now, a Scootababy. I'm thinking I might get it instead of a Lillebaby. It is ring sling style but buckle & will allow me to hip carry. Will buy that one in Feb, when LO is getting a little more nosey.
So a Scootababy & a Tula toddler are on the shopping list.. Ahh.. That feels better.

binkybunny · 16/08/2014 23:42

Eww just read my pregnancy/birth book, now feeling a bit shocked and going to bed to have nightmares Shock. I'm too squeemish for birth ð???

ExcitedCJ · 16/08/2014 23:48

Date night! Although dare night might be interesting!
