Oh nice, it would be fort William we move to which is wettest place in the uk I think lol good for kids though, nice place just very quiet compared to what I am used too!

binkybunny · 17/08/2014 23:52

The area around Fort William is lovely, great outdoorsy stuff and we have had some sunny days up there! You'll only be a short drive from some amazing beaches too. The Highlands were my first choice when moving up here but DH couldn't find any work and rental property is thin on the ground. Are you from Scotland and where are you moving from?

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 18/08/2014 09:08

Morning all! Lots to catch up on after not reading the thread for a day! me, thank you so much for the advice on the different jabs, I didn't realise there was another option. Will definitely be asking for Syntocinon if I decide to have the jab!

Can't remember who was umming about doing an NCT course but my advice is DO IT! By far the best money we spent as I now have a lovely support network of 5 other mummies with babies of a similar age Smile

The information I received was also really empowering as it made me realise I don't have to go along with whatever the doctor/midwife says just because, I CAN ask questions about what is being done to MY body and it is always MY choice what happens. Even in an emergency situation there is always time to ask questions. I don't mean that to come across as a 'sticking it to the man' type thing, obviously the docs are more qualified than me but I think woman can sometimes get bamboozled into doing things they don't want just because its routine.

Goats, If induction is mentioned for me I will definitely be declining and asking for extra monitoring instead. If my placenta starts to fail/blood pressure gets too high/baby becomes distressed then I will accept induction is necessary, otherwise they can just keep a closer eye on me Grin

Stabbing pains down where the baby's head is today. Normal? Not normal??

LondonJen · 18/08/2014 09:42

Inspired by a previous poster's washing line, here is what made me very happy yesterday. These now ready for hospital bag.

taking it's normal. I've been getting it and it takes your breath away!

Totally agree with what you said yesterday captain. I think we put ourselves under so much pressure for the perfect birth, to breast feed etc and it doesn't always go to plan. Invariably we feel let down or see it as a failure. I Really think a lot of labour and birth is beyond our control. I've never had a birth plan and won't do one this time. I Guess the only thing I don't want is forceps.

In terms of induction, I'm nearly 40 and have an appointment with the consultant at 37 weeks (due to age). I'm not sure on the policy where I live (Warwickshire) but I'm going to have acupuncture from 39 weeks onwards. I had a sweep last time at 39 and 40 weeks. I went into labour a day after 2nd sweep but it's hard to know whether I would have anyway! Ideally I don't want to go longer than a week over due and would accept induction. I've heard some positive induction stories. It's like births, women are always more likely to share their horror stories than the nice quick and easy births.

pinkfizzsparkles · 18/08/2014 09:51

Love the washing line pic!

SJH0604 · 18/08/2014 09:57

Fab photo London! It's all getting very real!

I was just looking up information on perineum message and it really made me feel sick! I'm very squeamish anyway (God help me during birth) and I just don't think I can bring myself to do the message. Is anyone else?

SJH0604 · 18/08/2014 09:57

*massage

ohthegoats · 18/08/2014 10:03

I don't want to do it. Seems just all a bit urgh. I figure I'll need an episiotomy (which I'd rather over a tear), and have accepted that as a done deal (every woman in my family has had to have one, it would be very lucky if I was the only one not to).

Also, we're so preoccupied with house renovation stuff at the moment, that it's not like we have a nice place to discuss or action things like taint massage!! Got 5 minutes spare? Put together another wardrobe, don't just fiddle around with your vagina!

clairemiss79 · 18/08/2014 10:05

Hi I'm interested to read all the views on induction. Two of my labours were induced by the syntocin drip and the second was a vbac. Both were straightforward deliveries requiring no intervention. The first I had an epidural which made pushing as hard as hell but I got her out and the second (3rd birth my 2nd was emcs) was just gas and air and was painful but not totally awful or unpleasant if that makes sense.
Induction isnt always a terrible experience.
This time I'm being induced on my due date and will try getting by on gas and air.

I cant wait til the births start happening :)

Kirstipops · 18/08/2014 10:08

I'm the same SJ, ugh! I read the link that Yellow posted and also this <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=scHxU-LFM6b8ywOu-4LQBQ&url=www.ouh.nhs.uk/patient-guide/leaflets/files%255C090924perinealmassage.pdf&cd=2&ved=0CB4QFjAB&usg=AFQjCNEuTCqil5r1SrXXB-Mt3d2wGD8F2Q&sig2=VyIDfqTdLUuVFJjsEQWLJQ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=scHxU-LFM6b8ywOu-4LQBQ&url=www.ouh.nhs.uk/patient-guide/leaflets/files%255C090924perinealmassage.pdf&cd=2&ved=0CB4QFjAB&usg=AFQjCNEuTCqil5r1SrXXB-Mt3d2wGD8F2Q&sig2=VyIDfqTdLUuVFJjsEQWLJQ
I hate conflicting information!

SJH0604 · 18/08/2014 10:15

Ha goats! We're also renovating at the moment, having moved into a new home six weeks ago and EVERYTHING needing to be done. So no 'fiddling with the vagina' here either! Maybe others have done it and found it worked? It would be interesting to find out. (Sorry if this has been discussed in depth already).

On another note, I just weighed myself for the first time in about six weeks and I think I've lost half a stone. Now I'm really worried. So it seems I've put on one and a half stones since I've been pregnant, which is fine. But last time I weighed myself I'm sure I weighed two stones more than the start of my pregnancy. Everyone comments how small my bump is but I just ignored them (everyone's different, right?). What do you think I should do, if anything? (I have been eating my usual amount of food/snacks and still have my usual big appetite).

clairemiss79 · 18/08/2014 10:17

kirstipops the thought of it grosses me out too and getting dh to do it is not a good idea cos he would be very easily distracted! I'm trying to do the pelvic floors with an app ive downloaded!!

SJH0604 · 18/08/2014 10:18

I'll give it a read Kirsti. Thanks for the link!

ohthegoats · 18/08/2014 10:20

I've not put on a stone yet - no one seems worried. Bump is smallish apparently, but I was overweight to start with, so the less I put on the better. Apart from my posture being slightly out of whack, I don't feel much different in terms of size than I did before I was pregnant really. Today I'm wearing non maternity clothes and it's all fine.

Things have gone wobbly though - I was quite 'fit' before, in that I did a fair amount of weight training and running/hill walking. All tone has gone from my arms, and I can feel my thighs starting to go too. I can't wait to get back to the gym properly. Roll on December.

ohthegoats · 18/08/2014 10:21

Claire - thanks for that induction info, it's good to read some reasonable ones.

fedupofrainydays · 18/08/2014 10:21

Anyone else going through very faint and dizzy spells? We are on holiday in wales and I keep having to lie down as feel so unwell - like I'm going to be sick. Anyone else got this?

clairemiss79 · 18/08/2014 10:36

goats I'm in awe of your weight gain. I've put on 2 and a half stone at 32 weeks! I feel so heavy and massive although my bump measures spot on for my dates. I'm planning my weight loss diet already for after babys here

ohthegoats · 18/08/2014 10:40

fedup - yes, lots about 3 weeks ago. I had two or three quite serious occasions when I wondered about calling a doctor. Had to lie down on the floor half way up the stairs! Was all pale and green apparently too.

It's gone now though - I mentioned it to the midwife last week who didn't seem very concerned.

ohthegoats · 18/08/2014 10:42

Claire - I've had a really erratic appetite, and had plenty of body fat to use up!! Probably will pile it on now, as seem to feel a little more hungry. Although eating makes me feel a bit sick... meh.

mrsb87 · 18/08/2014 10:54

Yes lots of random dizziness, I just mentioned it to my midwife last visit to make her aware but she didn't seem concerned.
The big bathroom project is still under way, the flush needs to be filled manually still and there is a bucket instead of a waste pipe under the sink and tools scattered across the floor...cannot wait for my new bath to be fitted!

fedupofrainydays · 18/08/2014 10:55

Have i just got low BP? Just read through notes and diastolic is 60 and below. Last time it was 100/58. Could this be the prob? What do I do about it?

ohthegoats · 18/08/2014 11:05

fedup - do you normally have a low blood pressure? My last one was 102/58, which is low - but midwife asked if that was normal, which it is, and wasn't worried about it. In normal life I just make sure I eat enough, and stay hydrated - sometimes if I get up quickly it goes a bit woo-ey, but I think since I've been pregnant I've been worse at eating properly, so it's sometimes been worse with dizziness. I think it's corresponded with bump growth spurts too, so maybe I need to make sure that I notice the growth and register the need to eat more accordingly.

bumpbangbump · 18/08/2014 11:16

Yes to low bp and dizziness. Been feeling really wobbly throughout. No idea what to do about it tbh. Coupled with the breathlessness and i feel a total mess!
