Hello

Having had 5 mcs and 1 DD I am not feeling very hopeful (juest realistic) even though I am doing different things than before...

4w today and on cyclogest pessaries since CD21...

Maybe we could have a separate thread to the biiiig one so we don't scare the others with our (my) negativity...

Welcome

TinyTear, 40, 1 DD, 5mcs, due in April but don't want to know the exact day...

Shetland no it's my 9 week scan check up, part of the check up carried by the recurrent miscarriage unit. Like you I'm struggling with wearing my normal clothes too as I'm so bloated. I look about 6 months pregnant! But, I've been told that it's not pregnancy related but it's the side effect of the combo of medicine that I'm taking.

My 12 + week scan is not till 14 October.... Ages away. I really hope that I can make it that far!

LondonSuperTrooper · 20/09/2014 21:40

And Shetland, I think that our beanies are around the same age :)

Shetland · 20/09/2014 23:30

They are london I'm 9+2. 12 week scan is 10th Oct, so we must be pretty close :)
Have you got something planned for tomorrow to try and distract yourself from worrying about Monday all day?

LondonSuperTrooper · 21/09/2014 07:09

Shetland I've got no real plans for today. My DS has an eye test & I need to pick up a keyboard that I bought for him from the music shop. I might pop into Boots to try & use their lipstick colour service.... But it all depends on how tolerant DS will be when we are out & about!

LondonSuperTrooper · 21/09/2014 07:11

According to my dates I'm 9 weeks today. Beanie is hopefully the size of a grape now :)

Shetland · 21/09/2014 07:13

My bump is considerably bigger than a grape - it must consist of pasties and bread then!

Shetland · 21/09/2014 07:58

Ps - a keyboard may well distract you from Monday - though not necessarily in a good way ;)

TinyTear · 21/09/2014 08:14

Ah we have a keyboard as well. Gave it last Christmas. She likes the preset buttons with tunes and ordering us to dance. So London that will indeed keep you distracted...

Shetland my tummy is v big too and it's disheartening that beanie is only the size of the grape. My weakness has been bread & cheese :( I hear of people craving / eating ice, apples etc..... Why can't i have these healthy cravings?! Actually, I don't have any cravings but carbs seems to stem the nausea caused by the steroids .... Even at 2am!

Tiny yes I'm hoping that I'll have enough on today to distract me & stop me obsessing about tomorrow. Once we pick up the keyboards then DS needs to practice - he's having piano lessons and it's only now that I've got round to buying him something. It took me forever to choose a keyboard for him with a decent digital piano sound.

hi everyone Grin just realised i haven't posted in about 10 days, although I have been checking in and lurking. I'm so delighted for all of you who've had some great scan news!

and i'm delighted to see that you're all getting fat like me Grin DH said I won't be able to keep it quiet much longer, i'm growing something that is hopefully the size of a raspberry and i look ready to pop!

we went to see his friend&girlf who is 22 wks pregnant and she honestly looks like she just finished a bowl of pasta - stick thin with a wee pot belly - she hasn't told work yet because she can get away with it.

i have a scan tomorrow - at 5+6 they didn't see a heartbeat but everything looked well. 7+6 tomorrow and hoping that some good growing has occurred and that the heart is flickering nicely. i've been very nauseous and sick about 6 times in the last fortnight - more this past week - but feeling good today (and unhappy about it).

at what stage does the placenta "plug in"? i remember someone saying symptoms can ease after that.

Good luck for this week to anyone who has scans or appointments or is feeling a bit grim Smile

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/09/2014 13:00

Beany baby is the size of a lemon apparently although judging by how big my bump has got in the last week id say im carrying a football.

I had to buy some nice stretchy skirts that I can wear over it because waistbands, even on my maternity trousers, feel uncomfortable so ive gone for the long floaty skirt look, people are going to guess because I never wear skirts!

my cravings are pickled eggs, pickled onions and beetroot.

im 14 weeks today and slept all night for the first time in weeks, I didnt have to get up once to go to the toilet and I realised although ive still felt a bit nauseous I havent actually felt properly sick for a few days, I should be happy instead im stressing it means theres something wrong, if it wasnt for the fact im still absolutely exhausted id be in full panic mode.

TinyTear · 21/09/2014 17:33

Ah but it's not just beany... Then there is the womb and waters and placenta... Mine was 3.7cm at the scan but the rest was bigger...

I am also very jealous of the people that get low calorie cravings such as ice. That said I know last time alot of my weight gain and bump was bloating in the 1st trimester so I looked less pregnant by about 14 weeks when it had all gone down. Hoping this happens again this time as I definitely look pregnant as all the weight is on my tummy for such a tiny little thing. I think I don't have cravings but the last few weeks it has more been a question of what can I eat and typically high fat high carb lard has been my preference. Been loving salad this week so definitely think I am on the up!

Jbee- I read that the placenta takes over between 8-10 weeks. Also, with dd weeks 6-8 were the worst and this happened this time too.

London - good luck tomorrow. Are you on predislone? That can make you have a moon face along with waking up at silly o'clock. Hope the keyboard went well. Dd got one for her birthday (a cheapy one) and we haven't let her take it out of the box yet. The people who got it are getting a drum kit for their ds for Xmas now!!!

Shetland - your counsellor sounds like she talks sense. With my 1st mc, I was very good and ate well, didn't over exercise, didn't drink alcohol or caffeine and it went wrong. On the way home from a scan to see if it was happening naturally, I saw a pg woman with a can of red bull in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I cried!!! That said I still don't want to do anything that could harm this little blob even though my rational head says it won't make much difference.Â

Last day on holiday tomorrow. Not looking forward to returning to work as enjoyed the lie - ins and naps/laying round the pool. Also, feel quite anxious as I am really behind with work from feeling so unwell before I left and I now feel well enough to stress about it but not well enough to put a hard slog in to get back above water.

LondonSuperTrooper · 21/09/2014 23:54

Hi LIG, yes I'm on prednisolone and absolutely hating it :( I've been experiencing muscle ache, severe bloating & very painful stomach cramps. Half the time I keep thinking that I'm miscarrying due to the pain. All will revealed tomorrow at my scan.

Yes I got the keyboard for DS but he didn't get an opportunity to practice- keyboard was too heavy for me to carry from the car and into the house.

BTW, your holiday found idyllic :) good luck with the flight home & wading yourself back into work. I'm feeling a little rough at the moment & would love to take tomorrow off but I've been told I'm not allowed to take sick leave for the 6 month probationary period :(

LondonSuperTrooper · 21/09/2014 23:56

Smiling where did you buy your stretchy skirts from? I bought a couple of tops in a bigger size from Dorothy Perkins today - really need to cover my stomach!

Shetland · 22/09/2014 06:25

Not allowed to take sick leave?! How are they allowed to say that? What if someone had appendicitis - should they just struggle on?! That's outrageous.

Good luck today london xx

TinyTear · 22/09/2014 06:55

Good luck London.

Dare I say it? I think I have turned a corner, Not falling asleep on the sofa by 830 and have woken up feeling better than I have done in weeks, don't get me wrong theres a back note of nausea there but I have pottered around this morning and I haven't felt up to that in weeks. Do you think it might be because I have stopped taking the cyclogest along with the placenta taking over? I have a full day of clients and then we are meeting friends for an early dinner, heres hoping I hold out till then!!

Heres hoping for a good week for everyone!

LittleBairn · 22/09/2014 10:03

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I've had a bit of a stressful weekend (then I remember all those studies the papers like to remind us about, how bad stress if for the baby....which just means I end up more stressed!) the longer this pregnancy goes on the more complicated it becomes medically if it goes wrong again.
My reflux is so bad I'm now vomiting acid (I have a long history of stomach issues so I'm used to it) I rather have MS.

In regards to buying I have everything but a pushchair. With my first pregnancy I bought nothing I felt awful coming home to an empty house there was no sign that our baby ever existed. So my next pregnancy I bought everything clothes, cloth nappies, slings, blankets etc. It really did give me comfort when I came home from hospital it was like our DD still present she hadn't been erased of our lives. In fact I kept the Amby up for weeks.

The one thing we always do now is to buy a yellow blanket and if I go into hospital it comes with me to sleep on, afterwards we wrap our baby in them.

LittleBairn · 22/09/2014 10:08

Just a word of caution on the dopplers a friend was using one, just for fun but she started to use it when she felt the baby wasn't moving as much (still fairly early in pregnancy just before viable) unfortunately the baby had died and it was her own heartbeat she could hear but didnt realise for a number of days.
I would just say if you feel any concern speak to your midwife or Dr ASAP don't let it lull you into a false sense of security.

jbee1979 · 22/09/2014 10:57

Good luck London :-)

i'm happy to say i have an 8 wk size baby inside me, who has a great little heartbeat. The midwife put the blood flow thing over and i could see lots of blue and red.

I was sick with worry. now all I have to do is stay sensible until the 12 week scan. still no hospital letter - its taking ages!!

TinyTear · 22/09/2014 11:03

Great news Jbee!

Thanks TinyTear xx

LondonSuperTrooper · 22/09/2014 12:32

Thanks everyone. My appointment is at 1.15pm. DH is working at the hospital today & I'm hoping that he's free so that can come down & accompany me.

Also, I managed to get my midwife booking in appointment. It will take place after my nuchal scan, I will be around 12+ weeks. Is this late? I thought that the bloods had to be done at 10 weeks?

Jbee congratulations on your 8 week scan! I've never had the blood flow thingy - is this a new test that that the NHS are doing?

OneDayLikeThis2013 · 22/09/2014 12:35

Congrats jbee great news on the scan. The MW did the same for me as my 8 week scan last weekend, it's pretty cool seeing all the blood flow isn't it?

Good luck with your scan today london

Scanxiety has set in again about my 10 weeker this Saturday. Finding it impossible to think of anything else. Had a symptom free day yesterday until the evening with absolutely no sickness at all and freaked myself out but like someone else was saying, I think the placenta starts to kick in about 9 weeks so I'm trying to reassure myself with that
