Hello

Having had 5 mcs and 1 DD I am not feeling very hopeful (juest realistic) even though I am doing different things than before...

4w today and on cyclogest pessaries since CD21...

Maybe we could have a separate thread to the biiiig one so we don't scare the others with our (my) negativity...

Welcome

TinyTear, 40, 1 DD, 5mcs, due in April but don't want to know the exact day...

I'm with you all on the exhaustion. I do 10 hour days and I'm about ready to curl up in a corner and cry after being on my feet all day! Only an hour to go... Aren't I feeling sorry for myself! Your school walk sounds a bit much smiling I think I would tell your employers (I've had to tell mine even though ridiculously early days)

TinyTear · 05/09/2014 09:52

Booked a 10w scan and the Harmony test for the 18th September... couldn't resist waiting all the way until the official 12w one

What is the benefit of the harmony test tiny? I know a friend had one following bad blood tests at the nuchal.

Just had my booking in appt and met the midwife. She was quite young (well compared to me) but seemed very knowledgable which was good. Currently low risk Grin but may move to high risk as had trouble with a retained placenta with dd. (But she is hopefully that I could still go to the midwife led unit but probably not a home birth.)

Feeling quite well today. Trying to enjoy it and get some work done rather than panic. Got another scan booked for 13th when I will be 9+1 so trying to hold out till then. With dd I had days of feeling completely normal (hence the large number of private scans) and still feel slightly sick even with the drugs and sea sickness bands so not too panicked yet.

TinyTear · 05/09/2014 11:11

it's non invasive and more reliable than the nuchal... this way you only need an amnio or cvs if the results are bad.

it's expensive but as i am 41 and had the 5 mcs I want to make sure all is ok, and if it isn't have time to think and prepare...

my booking appointment is next week.

Smiling I wouldn't like to walk 45mins each way! Good luck with speaking to your employer.

LIG is this a private scan or offered on the NHS? I envy you having morning sickness. I feel completely normal with absolutely no symptoms.... hence why I still don't really believe that I am pregnant! With my DS, I was experiencing severe morning sickness.

Tiny does it matter if the harmony test is conducted at 10 week or 12 weeks? Where are you having it done?

By the way, which part of the country is everyone from? I'm from surrey :)
And I'm very apprehensive about my scan booked for 10 Sept - let's hope that they can see something this time as I've very confused as to why I had an empty sac & high HCG levels Confused.

LIG1979 · 05/09/2014 12:35

London It is a private scan. Luckily, I justify it as we had been putting money aside for an extension and private fertility treatment so I take it out of that pot. Is it possible that you are out with your dates? So they were high but not high enough to show anything more than a sac? I am glad for the sickness as it is similar to my good pregnancy but at the same time very concern that if it doesn't work out I am not sure I can go through weeks of sickness if it can still result in mc. My other reasonable pg length that was a mmc was very easy and I wouldn't have known I was pregnant which made trying again a lot easier. I am also a surrey girl Grin.

smiling I am impressed that you have kept it from your boss. Do they know about your mc/s? I go on the idea that they will probably find out if you mc so I may as well tell them if I am struggling with the pregnancy too. I wanted to make sure my new boss new there was a reason why I was so slow/off sick/useless at the moment. (As he doesn't know what I am normally like since I found out I was pregnant not long after he started so we don't have a history.)

Tiny it does sound like good reasoning. My friend did it because it was safer than an amnio and also quicker so if she did need to terminate it would be early than waiting for an amnio and its results. My dd is also potty training herself at the moment, I spent last night trying to find the where the smell of poo was from and found out it was on me. Not great when feeling sick.

Just about to go out for a walk. I am usually quite a fitness freak but not done anything but eat for weeks now. My boss told me I looked pregnant yesterday with a small bump and a fatter face. (Charming.....) I am sure it is due to all the eating I have been doing.

TinyTear · 05/09/2014 12:49

London I am doing it at the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street. My friend had it done there.

the only difference of doing it at 10w is that I get a discount Grin it's £400 at 10w and £500 after 11w

I am in North London...

LIG my last period was on 20 July. I ovulated later in this cycle, around CD 17. So whichever way you look at it, I was around 6 weeks at my scan and saw an empty sac with no yolk. My HCG level was around 20,000 which I've been told is normal for a 6 week pregnancy.

Thanks Tiny. I saw from the FMC website that the earlier scan was slightly cheaper but couldn't figure out why. If I get to 8 weeks, then I will also do the harmony test at the FMC. Less hassle and stress than the nuchal and quad test that I had to do with my DS 8 years ago Shock I will be 41 in November and this is another reason why I'm keen to do it.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 05/09/2014 16:36

Im in kent.

my bosses werent overly supportive when I miscarried they expected me to be back to normal within a couple of weeks and couldnt understand why I wasn't so im not feeling overly inclined to tell them yet.

Shetland · 05/09/2014 17:02

I'm in kent too.

I haven't told my bosses yet but will do before the 12 week scan (if I get that far) in case it's another mmc and I need the time off. I might tell them sooner if my sickness ramps up but so far it's manageable.

I'm from Bristol (obvs!!). I've told my managers and several colleagues as I'm having to avoid some aspects of work. They were fantastic with my MMC, and have also been really supportive this time so I think I'm very lucky. It is a pretty small/close team though.

lig I can sympathise with feeling porky (though I have to say your bosses comment was a bit harsh and if someone said that to me I'd probably bite their heads off!) - I've definitely been overeating and am usually quite healthy with lots of fruit and veg etc, but at the moment I just can't stomach it! Have managed to force some veggies down tonight, but only smothered in carb (risotto!). I'm 7 weeks with a 13 week belly! Anyone got any tips to help avoid piling the weight on?

LIG1979 · 05/09/2014 21:04

I think I look pregnant as a girl at work asked if I was pregnant today. She has her own fertility issues so I guess she is more astute than the normal person. Hopefully the guys at work shouldn't notice for a while but not sure how I will keep it quiet for another 4 weeks. Last time I kept it quiet till 20 weeks.

Smiling - sounds tough at work. I think it is tough for people who haven't been through mc to understand the impact it can have. (Not that I am making excuses for them but I think that for people that find it easy to have kids they cannot understand the difficulties others have to go through.)

Bristol - I found with dd I put on a stone in the 1st trimester yet only 2.5 overall and then lost it all in 3 months post birth and a further half stone whilst on mat leave. I think my weight actually went down after the 1st trimester when the bloating went and I wanted to eat better and could exercise but was too scared to step on the scales. I ate a whole large Domino's pizza tonight so I am definitely going down the same path this time.

TeachersPest · 05/09/2014 22:12

Hi Ladies

Wow lots to catch up on! Haven't been on for a while, as been laid up in bed with sickness being sick 3 times daily. Then ended up with a tummy bug, which meant D&V from Tuesday until yesterday. Not nice at all.

Also had some brown blood stained EWCM, (which reminded me of the 'show' pre labour with DD) last week so have really been avoiding anything preg related as was convinced that it was the start of mc. So far nothing else.

Of course I am now panicking that all of the D&V may have resulted in emby not continuing to grow. I spoke to EPU who basically said that the pregnancy would take from me what it needed, so not to worry about that aspect of it, and to keep sipping water and take vitamins. We are going for another scan (private) next week, as EPU didn't seem to think I needed one, but I don't think my crazy brain could cope until 12 scan.

Anyway that's enough of my moaning... I bet your glad I am back Wink

Congratulations to those who have had positive scans.

Sorry to those who have had/ are having a rough time of it Flowers

Shetland · 05/09/2014 22:21

I have the same worries following my bug teacher I should be getting a scan date through for next week, I think, but if I don't hear anything soon I'll book a private one.

I put on 1.5 stone with DD1 and lost pretty much all of it just by having her. With DD2 I was much less sick and just ate constantly so I'd put nearly that much on by 20 weeks Shock it did slow down a bit once the nausea had passed though.
This time I'm eating constantly too so I guess it'll be the same again.

I definitely have a belly - but it's more likely cheese and onion pasties bloat than baby.

TeachersPest · 05/09/2014 22:53

I still haven't heard for MW yet! I am 9+3 today. Self referred to them though, so not sure if that slows it down. I would have thought that it would have made it quicker. So will just go with private scan for now.

I lost weight with my DD in first tri, and have lost weight with this one now too. The bigger stretchy jeans that I had to buy 3 weeks ago, as everything was too tight, are now baggy and falling down! Grr.

I have a solid 'bump' from my pubic bone to waistline though, so as long as that is there then I'm hoping all is ok. I wish i could stuff nice food Sad I just cant manage anything at the moment, am living on rice cakes, water and plain chicken. Just glad I am managing to keep that lot down, along with the vitamins! Still I am sure ill make up for it if I get to the 2nd & 3rd tri

Shetland · 06/09/2014 07:03

I self referred too teacher Here they get in touch with you quite quickly but the appointment is ages away. Mine sing for a couple of weeks yet, but she said she'd request an 8 week scan for me in the meantime, which should be next week, possible the week after I suppose.

LIG1979 · 06/09/2014 08:10

teacher - you poor thing that sounds really tough. glad you are on the mend.

TinyTear · 06/09/2014 08:24

That seems tough. But your doctor is right. Babies hang on well and this early they get their food from the yolk sac. A friend of mine had proper diagnosed swine flu in her first weeks of pregnancy and her boy was perfect.

So today I'm 10+1! Saw the mw yesterday for my booking app, just got to wait for my scan date to come through now, I am getting more anxious again and hoping to be nearer 12 than 13!! Have been feeling pretty rough and had a particularly iffy dizzy spell today, hot, sweaty, the nausea turned up max and I really thought I was going to go, it passed quite quickly tho and I've had an easy work day, hope it doesn't become a regular thing.

Try not to work teachers, these little things are made of sturdy stuff.

Shetland · 06/09/2014 19:32

10+1 !! Not long til your scan then lila Hope the bad nausea etc was a one off

I'm just putting the girls to bed and then I may well go to bed myself!

Stuntman · 07/09/2014 19:43

I'll be seven weeks tomorrow and it still doesn't seem real. I'm doing all the right stuff: folic acid, careful with exercise, avoiding alcohol and caffeine etc. I never do believe it until the 12-week scan I suppose but pregnancy after MC is a lot tougher mentally isn't it? I'm very lucky in that I've only had the one MC and three successful pregnancies so I don't really have any reason to be more worried than most. But I still am. Sad

Shetland · 07/09/2014 22:29

It sure is stuntman - the innocence and excitement goes once you've mc'd :(

LondonSuperTrooper · 08/09/2014 07:02

Stuntman & Shetland I fully agree with you both. I'm still in disbelief that I am pregnant. And for all that I know I could be miscarrying right now. I have absolutely no symptoms whatsoever. Wednesdays scan cannot come soon enough for me. I will find out whether I'm actually pregnant or not!

Shetland · 08/09/2014 08:16

My symptoms are fading rapidly - I am starting to get a very feeling about this :( Hopefully I should have a scan this week - can't come soon enough.
