Never heard if energy gels binky, what are those?

MrsB & Binky I would not recommend the energy gels unless you have used them before. They can cause stomach cramps & diarrhoea. My DH uses them for running marathons & doing endurance events & they can make him feel rubbish after. Jelly Babies or Percy Pigs from M&S are a much more acceptable alternative, either that or Kendal Mint Cake.

Missus2ndwife · 04/08/2014 07:18

Antiseptic wipes for cleaning - I've heard the bathrooms are grim!!

binkybunny · 04/08/2014 07:25

I use energy gels for running and cycling events, never had a bad reaction, they're just not the nicest thing. DH used them 4 days in a row when cycling 100+ miles per day and got an upset stomach so I guess in large quantities they're not good. Great for a quick easy shot of energy

binkybunny · 04/08/2014 07:26

Jelly babies remind me of a really tough half marathon... Not sure if I can stomach them again but might be appropriate in labour!

ExcitedCJ · 04/08/2014 08:02

:) binky I think you might be right

fedupofrainydays · 04/08/2014 08:07

The bathroom was fine in my hospital - they clean regularly as I made it look like a war zone! I did clear up tho - honest!

Flip flops also better than slippers as often hospital is so hot. And if you are leaking waters or blood after you don't want to ruin your nice slippers!

Whoever is asking re the oils. I used a small amount of tea tree and lavender oils in a shallow bath and sat in it every day for about 10 mins. Good healing properties. Sorry if tmi but I would do after a poo I would also shower as I had stitches in my bum and wanted them to be clean.

If you are having stinging when you wee, NCT advised pouring water at same time to dilute it.

Got to take it easy today as I'm really sore after yesterday. Let's see if I can get through the day without an argument with builders!

Re hospital - also consider take your own pillow. With a coloured case on it. Hospital ones can be a bit thin and it's nice to have your own to prop you up for bf etc.

fedupofrainydays · 04/08/2014 08:09

A decent hair brush and conditioner too if you have long hair! I must have writhed around so much in labour as my hair was a massive sweaty knot when I got in the shower!

Me23 · 04/08/2014 08:20

So annoyed! Tax credits have messed up our award! Sent our renewal and they have put we don't pay childcare costs (I wish I wasn't paying nearly 300 a week!) and that we owe them over 5k, been trying to get through for 20 minutes!

ohthegoats · 04/08/2014 08:20

New record for me - I got up TWELVE times in the night. TWELVE. Nice - and each time I have to get up off the floor because our bedroom is still temporary. Grr.

fedup - definitely take it easy. I had a day of doing nothing yesterday and I feel so much better today. Boyfriend did all the box lugging yesterday while I sat on my bum, and today I'm just 'normal' achey, as opposed to wanting to cry.

I bought witch hazel to go on pads, and lavender oil to go in bath and potentially in the jug of water that I've been advised to use to pour on myself when peeing. My TA gave the lavender to me with a new jug as my end of term present! It was quite hard to explain to the kids!

I've got a growth scan today, but I'm more concerned to see which way up we are. I really, REALLY don't want a CS, but all movement and kicking is going on at the bottom of my bump - only tiny tickles at the top, which makes me think it's still breech. Fingers crossed not. Otherwise I'll be hanging around upside down for the next month.

YellowWellies · 04/08/2014 08:21

Sparkle the witchhazel you want can be found in the first aid section of any decent sized boots. It's usually on the bottom shelf (as it's a cheap and cheerful product) next to surgical spirit. It's in a glass bottle and is called Distilled Witchhazel BP. I got a couple of bottles yesterday. It's 2.99 a bottle I think. Put one in your maternity bag and put one in the fridge at home. Then after labour liberally sprinkle a maternity towel with it until it's damp. It's cooling and soothing and helps to heal stitches, grazes, tears and keep them from being infected. I personally didn't use the arnica cream I bought and don't know anyone that could as you can't use it if you have an open wound. Most ladies get a wee graze even if you don't tear. I don't know anyone who's lady bits got away entirely scot free!

I've got isotonic enery drinks this time in sports bottles so I can swig them easily. I took jelly sweets last time but couldn't manage to chew and scoff a single one in the 60 seconds I had between contractions and was scared I'd choke if I had one in my mouth when contracting. Not sure what to do about snacks to be honest. I just definitely won't have a pain au chocolat for breakfast this time as I vommed it for the next eight hours... Blush Classy bird!

YellowWellies · 04/08/2014 08:24

Goats all my kicks are at the bottom of my bump too but that's not a foolproof sign they are breech at this stage. Mine isn't breech for example. They are so big that their head will be down on one side of your groin, their back comes up the side of your tum, their bum will be at the top and their legs go down at the other side of your tum. Hence baby can be head down and you still get kicks low. Its such a shame you've not seen MW as they can feel in a second of palpation where baby is and put your mind at rest. Good luck for your scan xx

Kirstipops · 04/08/2014 08:25

I think I'll be stocking up on some Dextro Energy tablets, they helped me up Ben Nevis!

fedupofrainydays · 04/08/2014 08:40

Drinks with sports caps and straws are a must. In a cool bag if you had one! Gas and air makes you thirsty! I swigged my way through a multi pack of ribena cartons and then exhausted the oasis summer fruits supply in the vending machine! They were not concerned about my kidney function afterwards as kept having to empty my catheter bag!!

Going to try take it easy today but quite difficult with a crazy toddler. Might go to boots and pick up a few things if I can be arsed with chasing him round the shop! I've got double points for aug so may as well use them!

ohthegoats · 04/08/2014 08:41

Jelly tots are my trekking saviour, I'll get a couple of bags of those I think. When doing that sort of trekking etc - especially when you're aiming for a peak or a high pass, I go for things like cereal bars or flapjacks early in that day's walk, then pure sugar (jelly tots or coke or fanta) for the last half an hour. Hadn't really thought about it, but I suppose in terms of energy requirement, labour is similar.

Yellow - yeah I saw a midwife at the same time as my last scan, she said head down, scan said head up. Haha.. Yesterday it had hiccups and they were all down the bottom too - which got me all happy that it was probably the right way up. Who knows, I can't tell - hence quite looking forward to scan.

sazzlehopes · 04/08/2014 09:19

goats i'm still getting a lot of kicking at the bottom of my bump too and no one has said anything to me about breech....but really hoping that the up side of all this up down ladders and painting etc is to make sure that baby is in the right place! good luck for your scan.

gunwalloe · 04/08/2014 09:26

Goats myn is breach she has her bum right into my pelvis and I'm getting kicks and punches to my left side so you may be ok.

For those of you who have had symtoms after whooping cough jab, did you feel shite? Thinking of moving mine again as not sure I can cope with feeling rank this week

fedupofrainydays · 04/08/2014 10:05

Well moved it anyway! To next Monday. Got back to back meetings tomorrow and really can't feel shit for that!

ohthegoats · 04/08/2014 10:12

No one medical has ever suggested a whooping cough jab - if it wasn't for here, I'd never have heard of it.

MundayCakes85 · 04/08/2014 10:21

It's to provide your baby with immunity in its first 8 weeks before it's own vaccines start. My arm was a little tender but nothing that would have impeded on my work.
Another busy weekend with friends down to visit. Back at work and have been put in charge again instead of left alone in the quieter area. Definitely ready for mat leave in 5 weeks!

PunkyBubba · 04/08/2014 10:23

Hey FedUp, yes I felt totally shite after whooping cough injection. I had it on a Thursday morning and was fine until 8pm when arm started throbbing. It was so painful and tender that night I had to lie in right side all night to sleep. Next morning I woke up feeling like death warmed up, no energy, sore throat like razor blades, aching all over, with a dead arm from the injection. There was no way I could deal with DS all day on my own so DH had to take a day off work while I went to bed! Saturday I was fine apart from slightly sore arm. Was, and still am annoyed that we are not warned of side effects as although it would not stop me having the jab at least I would have been a bit more prepared!

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 04/08/2014 10:36

Apart from a sore arm for a few days I felt fine after my whooping cough jab. The jab is actually the pre-school booster jab & contains tetanus as well as a few other things. Its not a new jab at all just a new target audience so to speak Smile

The reason its suggested is because of the rise in whooping cough in newborns. I had it as a baby & gave it to both of my parents and its remembered as a terrible time for all so I'd rather avoid that if I can!
