mad how annoying but pleased it’s nothing to worry about
For all those saying they’d only want instrumental in an emergency I’m pretty sure they don’t just whack out the forceps/ventouse willy nilly so try not to worry
I think the key thing is to do some research or raise in your antenatal class (though NCT might gloss over it a bit) so you understand what could happen so that if it does it’s less scary, but don’t expect it to happen. Most births are uncomplicated and don’t require intervention
I had a v long labour with DS and in the end required the long forceps (can’t remember which ones) which turn the baby as it transpired he was presenting brow first hence so couldn’t flex his head and get out!
It wasn’t a nice experience but frankly at them time getting DS out safely while I was haemorrhaging was all I cared about. Despite the episiotomy I still tore but as I had been given a local anaesthetic (on top of the epidural I had put in after 20 hours) I didn’t feel the stitching – though seeing the in progress view from my consultant’s glasses was a bit of a shock
My birth plan went out the window it read:
• Prefer not to have episiotomy
• Prefer not to have forceps
• Prefer not to have pain relief etc. etc.
I realise that the way the birth went was as a result of DS’ poor positioning so this time I will be more assertive if things are progressing slowly and demand a scan to check.
You’ve all reminded me that I haven’t really had much action since my bfp – I have been so exhausted and felt so sick. Poor DP hopefully I’ll get back in the saddle soon!
I am constantly on the flipping loo doing a wee – it’s so annoying, still in a few more weeks it will get better when the uterus moves out of our pelvis (until the last trimester anyway!).
Welcome Take
persepolia Pethidine also made me v sick despite an anti-emetic. Though to be fair I puked fairly regularly throughout labour even before any pain relief – the midwives seemed to think it was a good sign
Sorry total waffle – nice distraction to type rather than feel queasy
