Flip sorry didn't mean to sound accusatory! I think stressing about a particular birth date / type of birth can actively preclude it. Yes stress can bring on labour but it can also stop labour too. Equally I think lots of women who go overdue come from Northern European stock and the evidence suggests pregnancies are naturally longer for that genetic group so many are in fact, not really overdue.

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 16/07/2014 08:21

I do think oxytocin plays a big part personally. The reason a lot of woman labour at night is because they've finally relaxed enough to let it happen. Obviously there are other factors or some babies would never come out!

Really feeling the heat this morning, even DS was roasting when i got him out of his cot, shorts and t shirts today i think!

mum2kiss · 16/07/2014 09:24

Diabetes blood test this morning...had to send dp out at midnight because I realised I didn't have the 5 things on the list that I'm. Supposed to eat 2 hrs before! He was not amused!

Me23 · 16/07/2014 09:45

mum2 What have you been asked to eat? Sounds bizarre to have to eat 5 specific things for gtt! It normally consists of fasting followed by glucose drink.

Flip yes I am off work on annual leave until mat leave begins in a few weeks.

Was up all night feeling sick and terrible reflux had to up the ranitidine.

FlipFantasia · 16/07/2014 10:16

Mum I've also got a glucose screen this morning. Not a GTT - if I pass this then no need for a GTT. I'm supposed to eat normally and then drink a glucose drink an hour before a blood draw. Not looking forward to herding my kids and timing it all correctly! It's a half an hour drive away.

Me glad to hear you're effectively on maternity leave! Even if the heartburn sounds dire...

It's quarter past five and I've been awake since 4.30am, after a restless night (again). I miss getting a good night's sleep!

mum2kiss · 16/07/2014 12:23

It's said it was a plg test on the blood form. I had to eat 2 slices of thin bread, 3rd p's of jam, 5 tablespoons of cornflakes, 1/3 pint of milk (I had almond so hope that's ok!), and 150mls of orange juice.

There was a whole list of foods to choose from which included things like weetabix, shredded wheat, baked beans, berries etc...

mum2kiss · 16/07/2014 12:24

3rd p's = 3 tsp!

All this chat of GTT's is making me crave a drink!! I have had glucose in my urine twice in last week, should I be asking for one?
It's all just got very real for me, put first non-bio baby clothes load in the washing machine! Sorted out all the blankets & bits that need washed & it is all sat inseperate piles waiting patiently in the queue.
Off for a snooze now that DD is having a nap. LOVE days off when she has a sleep! :)

Me23 · 16/07/2014 16:04

We offer mini gtt to everyone at 28 weeks however x2 episodes of glycosuria ( glucose in urine) would be on our trigger list to do mini gtt. If mini abnormal then we do full. But women with x2 risk factors go straight to full gtt eg high bmi plus family hx or ethnic origin.

ExcitedCJ · 16/07/2014 16:22

Thanks Me my DD was 9lb12 born on due date, so big enough bub! However I have normal BMI & no other risk factors,

gunwalloe · 16/07/2014 16:23

Well I have to concede my midwife was right to moan at me had the GTT today and just got the dreaded phone call to say I've got GD back up there again tomorrow for them to give me a testing kit and and talk about how to control it

ExcitedCJ · 16/07/2014 16:25

Oh Gun how annoying!

Me23 · 16/07/2014 17:40

Sorry to hear that gun hopefully you can control it with diet alone.

Forgot a previous baby weighing 4.5kg or more is also a risk factor.

ohthegoats · 16/07/2014 17:56

How annoying gun.

The end of term presents have started - I'm not going to have to buy anything in the 'small baby items' at all, I'm already up to my neck in baby socks. Is it wrong of me to wish, wish, WISH they were giving me the normal bottle of wine? ungrateful cow

Actually, some of it is quite sweet... and since I've just had another 'oh shit' moment in Babies R Us, I think presents are going to be the only way that this kid gets any clothes!

gun oh no what a pain hopefully you will be able to control it by diet. I'm pretty sure I will end up with it again as I have three risk factors- a family history, I've had it during a previous pregnancy, and my last baby was huge.
I have a growth scan on Monday and I'm not sure what to do. I've never found out the sex of any of my babies always preferred a suprise and never had a preference. I'm going to this scan on my own and there's a big part of me that really wants to find out.
I feel really bad admitting this but I do have a bit of a preference this time,I wouldn't be devastated if it was the other sex but part of me thinks I would be better to know now so I can accept that I will never have anymore of the sex I have a slight preference for this time, this is def my last baby.
Of course my main priority is a healthy baby and in the grand scheme of things the sex is so unimportant I've had multiple miscarriages so any baby is a blessing, but I can't help this niggely feeling.
What would you do?? I'm thinking I could find out and not tell anyone, do they make any record anywhere that they have told you?
I feel really bad saying this but it's really playing on my mind.

Kirstipops · 16/07/2014 20:52

Yeah the spiritual airy fairy girl seems lovely really, the other one is a right tit.

gunwalloe · 16/07/2014 21:06

Thanks all I didn't really know anything about GD so have done some googling and I wish I hadn't

Pregnantagain how many do you already have? If you really want to know then I would ask but can you keep it a secret after? I know with my baby brain I wouldn't be able to help calling the baby by the correct sex.

Pregnantagain7 · 16/07/2014 21:22

gun this is number four, I think I would be able to not say anything I feel really guilty for feeling the way I do but can't help it :(

gunwalloe · 16/07/2014 21:31

I'm on number 5 and have 2 of each already and I had a secret preference it doesn't make you a bad person it turns out my baby's sex is what I wanted but I know 100% that if it was the other sex I would have still loved it just as much I'm sure your the same don't feel bad

Pregnantagain7 · 16/07/2014 21:44

I know I will adore it whatever I have but I would hate to have any feeling of disappointment when I give birth, I think I'm going to find out just so I know one way or the other. I will still get the buzz of telling everyone when s/he arrives.

Pregnantagain7 · 16/07/2014 21:45

Oh and makes me feel better that others sometimes have a secret preference too!!

Bumpforme2014 · 16/07/2014 21:47

Oh gawd we have an announcement at work tomorrow, I suspect redundancies and not sure what this will mean for me, I really need my extra maternity for my mortgage eeekkkk

fatpony · 16/07/2014 21:49

I would find out, then as you say you don't have to hide the twinge of disappointment and also if you know you can prepare a bit better.
