Yesterday DD (25 months) kissed my bump and said she loves her baby sister. I asked her if she loves me and she said "NO! Love my baby sister!!"

What if it turns out to be a boy?!?!?!?!? Confused

Ladylel · 14/07/2014 11:29

Defo good advise pepsi Muslims are the main thing people seem to bang on about so they are top of the list.

Leaving toys and things until later on. Same with clothes really they grow out of stuff so fast and unless it's a one off outfit which well probably but new anyway everything else I am relying on is second hand. So many friends babies will be grown out of their stuff by the time mine get here plus I'll know where it came from. My mum went to a bootie yesterday and brought like 30 items of baby clothes for £6! All neutral, new born, few bits with tags on etc can't go wrong really. All will be washed at 60degree to kill any bugs tho!

Less than 24 hours I will officially be 20week and finding out what 'colours' I can buy. Or even what everyone else can buy haha

I can't remember if I wrote this yesterday but I did a mini jog to catch up with my dad and felt like I jolted bubs forward! My lower gut seemed to really protrude. It didn't hurt or anything. But today it's gone back to how It was... Odd

Ladylel · 14/07/2014 11:29

Ahhh how embarrassing MUSLINS!!!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/07/2014 11:41

We're definitely using reusable nappies. I can't live with the idea of all those disposables going to landfill :( I was glad to see that things have moved on from the awful Terry nappies I was brought up in, though!

Just back from 20wk scan this morning and all was fine, always amazes me how much you can see.

We also found out that we have a very wriggly baby girl! DD is going to be beside herself with excitement!

We didn't find out first time round so it was nice to experience it in a different way.

We have kept most stuff from DD so won't have to buy too much but I think I will be making some sneaky girly newborn purchases v.soon Smile

Loving the tips of what to buy, I never had a yoga ball but think I may try and hunt one down, also like the idea of swaddle pods. I'm heading to many car boot sales in the near future to see what treasures I can find!

ffallada · 14/07/2014 12:14

Oh my goodness - it looks like everyone is so prepared.

I'm such a kill-joy. I cant imagine having anything baby wise in the house until there is an actual baby. I'm thinking of making a list so when the baby comes my dh can run out and buy what we need.
I have a car seat and a crib we can borrow at short notice - I figure everything else will happen when we need it.
Babies don't actually need toys from birth do they?

I have a book 'how to tell your dog your expecting' which advised that as my dog is allowed on the furniture its best to buy a new chair to bf the baby on, which the dog is never allowed on. That way its not confusing for the dog. So I thought I might buy a new comfy bf chair at some point.......

My local NCT (Glasgow) are having an open evening on Tuesday for people interested in volunteering if anyone is interested in finding out more about what they do. PM me and I'll pass on the details.

ffallada · 14/07/2014 12:17

Congratulations on having a Girl littlepickly

Went in expecting a long wait for the scan as my consultant is on the labour ward, I don't have a proper appointment, and I'm just seeing whoever is on... and there she is waiting for me (labour ward is quiet). I LOVE that woman.

Still no change - good news. Another 48 hours back in my weird limbo life. I'll just have to get used to it, this is the more desirable option as the other way is deterioration and very risky surgery.

I haven't wanted to find out but I suspect I saw genitalia... Didn't say anything in the room as mum was there and she really doesn't want to know, but I mentioned to DH when we got home and he said he saw the same thing. Eeeeeek!!!!!

Obviously we're not buying anything until it's beyond stupid not to have them but I am appreciating all your tips and storing them up for such times as we can imagine having a baby or two home with us. I'd love to try cloth nappies Smile. We bought a car with Isofix points especially so we could save time and faff with two. I'd like to try and get as much as possible second hand as I just can't stand consumerism and wastefulness (I get really upset when people buy me pointless gifts!).

I've been feeling a bit pointless myself today... Fretful and a bit lost. I need to try and make my days count somehow. It's just weird not being able to make any plans even for the day after tomorrow. And I know that wishing every day away is quite unhealthy, I just want these babies to get bigger and for us to get closer to meeting them.

Miraculous so glad you're babies are doing ok, how often are you having to have scans?

Congrats to everyone that's had their scans and found out the sex Grin we seem to have lots of boys on the thread!

My scan is Thursday, can't wait but also really really nervous that there's going to be something wrong but trying not to think negatively! I can feel baby properly now Grin about 3/4 a day normally, especially when I eat!

Somerset they're scanning me every 48 hours during the week. I haven't had a normal clinic appointment since 16 weeks because the diagnosis threw everything else out of the window so they're going to do some basic check-ups on Wednesday too.

Keep the scan news coming folks Smile

I'm desperately seeking distractions - making a filo pie is the current one...

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/07/2014 15:27

Five weeks until my next scan :(

LotsaTuddles · 14/07/2014 15:34

So glad that your scan went well.

I'm not really buying anything this time around really as we still have everything from DS. The only thing were buying really is a pushchair because DS is only going to be 15 months and can't expect him to be on the buggy board all the time and I walk everywhere. We'll obviously be buying clothes if it's a girl but I expect we'll be bought quite a bit once s/he's born

LotsaTuddles · 14/07/2014 15:39

I haven't even got a date for my next scan peace

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/07/2014 15:41

Lotsa mine was booked for me at my 12 week scan!

DrewsWife · 14/07/2014 16:26

Lotsa. I don't have a date either. Waiting on postie bringing one.

And seriously, 50 muslin squares is not excessive. Especially in the first few weeks when all you are trying to do is figure out which way is up and have no time to stay on top of washing.

Ladies who used reusable nappies, please could you give me some recommendations on brands and styles? I really wanted to with DD but chickened out after getting a new born starter pack and the reality of having a newborn when you have absolutely no idea what you are doing set in. I dread to think the environmental and financial impact DD's bottom has had on the world so this time I want to Woman Up and give it a go.

monkeybaby2 · 14/07/2014 17:23

Btw, stalk Amazon for deals on muslin square bundles. If you're not fussy about colours you can get some deals.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/07/2014 17:36

Oh god. My boobs are sore. They're rock hard. This is it, isn't it? Leakage incoming. I think I'm having a mini panic attack about the reality of the situation.

DrewsWife · 14/07/2014 17:48

I can't have sex. Imfecking annoyed. All I want to do is have sex with the man I love but my brain is shutting me down. We do petting. I'm ready for him. Get him inside and pain.... Sad Been like this since we conceived. I feel a total failure. All I can think is my idiot brain is protecting the baby! It's safe. The baby can't be harmed. I've read the books. I know that.

Sorry if tmi.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 14/07/2014 18:58

Re reusable nappies, I only started using them when ds was 12 months old, so I actually need a shed load of newborn/small baby sized nappies as I only bought toddler sizes however what I learned with ds is:

Motherease wraps are hideously expensive but totally amazing.

Bamboo is better for nighttime wetting (once the baby is older obv) but hellish to dry - my lakeland heated airer came in handy for that!

I used little lamb bamboo nappies (with motherease wraps) for nighttime and totsbots all in ones for daytime.

Totsbots v2s were better than the fleecy v3s, although they've moved on to V4 now which apparently fixes the issues but worth considering if you are buying second hand.

Poppers are better than velcro imo. Velcro is ok but gets caught on stuff in the washing maching and can be easily undone by cheeky toddlers who want to be free from their nappy.

Paper nappy liners were as much use (for us anyway) as a chocolate teapot. Fleece liners all the way.

Easiest way to rinse fleece liners of "solids" is to hold/dangle them in the toilet while you flush the chain, then dump in the nappy bucket.

Do not do the above ^ if you have put a Bloo in the cistern. Unless you want blue fleece liners. Blush

However, as I said I have never had a cloth bummed newborn so I need advice on the best kinds of smaller size nappies to start with... I've been looking at the prefolds... any recommendations?

espa · 14/07/2014 19:07

Also making notes of what to buy! Showed hubby Bugaboo Buffalo in JL and he approves (after an initial heart attack at price). Will continue researching but hopefully that's sorted. :)

Re Scottish dates - I think they are pretty flexible although Feb does seem to be the cut off. I'm not that delighted about a December birthday but doubt it'll harm our one. I do know someone whose daughter is early Jan and they deferred, but likewise someone with the same birthday who is starting school in August aged 4. I don't recall anyone when I was at school who had a distinct advantage/disadvantage.

MrsW27 · 14/07/2014 19:42

Drew you are not alone. I'm hardly ever in the mood, and even when I am it just doesn't happen as I overthink everything and it ends up being too painful. Dh has been amazingly understanding but it's not exactly how I imagined starting married life with the love of my life :-(

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/07/2014 19:59

MrsW how long have you been married?

My belly seems massive today, but maybe it's because my boobs have changed again. And I'm gassy as hell.

I've discovered an Italian takeaway that does VEGETABLES. Excellent back up for when I'm tired and grumpy but want proper food.

I'm 16+2 today. Haven't done a date for so long that when they asked me at the hospital last week I didn't know! I said 15 weeks and they said, "what, exactly?. Oops, I thought I was better off not being so obsessive!!!
Midwife on Wednesday, which I'm missing a mandatory meeting for Confused I told my manager a couple of weeks ago but she hasn't responded, so I'm gonna just go. I'll be telling her next month anyway.

MrsW27 · 14/07/2014 20:06

Just over 2 months peace. I've had a few scares along the way with my little one and although everything seems to be fine now I'm still worrying too much about it all I think. I've always been a worrier but getting married, expecting our first child and trying to buy a house at the same time has maybe been a bit too much all at once Sad
