Scan went well, sonographer couldn't see any dangly bits so reckons a girl but I don't think I'll totally believe it until the baby is born! However, my pregnancy has been so different than with ds that I am inclined to believe it. Grin

My platelets were slightly low at 147 but midwife didn't seem especially concerned.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 10/07/2014 22:16

Trying a new position tonight... for sleep Hmm

DrewsWife · 10/07/2014 23:35

I bought travel system new! It was a demand. Everything was third hand for my first. Everything else for baby is 2nd hand. Go to boot sales. I bought everything from breast pump.. £2, bouncy seat £2. High chair. Wooden one that separates into table and chair for £17. Bottle steriliser with brand new still sealed bottles £20. Sling £12. Toy set £2. A lion rocking chair from fb group which cost me a tenner. Retails in local pram shop at £89.99. Wink

Boot sales rock

LotsaTuddles · 11/07/2014 05:22

I only need to buy a pushchair (because I need a double).

But won't be buying anything else (apart from a bed for DS as the baby will need his cot, and we're putting him in his bed just after his birthday in September as we don't want him to feel like he's being kicked out of his cot for his birthday).

It's really good because DH's cousin is pg and due in September, so is having our moses basket and stuff like that and she'll finish with it just in time for us to have it back Grin

I'm assuming that I'm starting to get ready to or startingto make milk because I've had to put DS in his cot for his bed time bottle as he keeps trying to breast feed for that particular feed, but he seems to go to sleep better that way

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 11/07/2014 07:21

Morning all! I am still on cloud nine from hearing the heart beat yesterday. Also very happy it's friday although i will spend the weekend doing college work instead of sending it with my lovely stepsons. I can't wait until this academic year is over. I'm working full time and doing a part time masters and being pregnant at the same time does nothing for my productivity. At the same time doing a masters i'm being really stressed does nothing for my enjoyment of my pregnancy. At least once the year is finished i've got nothing else concentrate on but growing my new new tiny little human. I hope everyone has a happy friday.

Ladylel · 11/07/2014 07:37

I'm happy it's Friday too. I booked Tuesday off for scan but also Monday as I know the time would drag waiting for Tuesday haha!

Pretty much getting everything 2nd hand. 1 baby you kids understand with the newish stuff but with 2 if freebies are a going im a claiming! Sister in law will finish with her Moses basket in a month or two, also have a second Moses basket coming my way - they both have stands so just need to get mattresses (£7 in Argos ATM) and any covers that are needed for them.
Got 3 maxi cosi car seats, 2 isofix bases, baby bath, breast pump, steriliser, bumbo, top cot changer, towels all for £150 quid. Have a cot bed coming my way too and once I find out what I'm having a whole bunch of free clothes pretty much. Everyone just seems so happy to get rid of stuff and stop cluttering their houses haha!
Saving up for tandem oyster pushchair so we can use adapters and out car seats in for a while, and other stuff we've brought and couldn't help ourselves involves grow bags, sleep suits and vests all neutral.

Defo recommend FB groups for those who don't have an aversion to it. As long as it's from pet/smoke free home (altho I have pets myself) you make the judgement and it's all just as good as buying new anyway!

oohdaddypig · 11/07/2014 07:43

pourquoi congrats on the team pink! Sounds a bit inconclusive? Do you mind what flavour?

spider you are so busy. Am nosy and curious as your masters subject.... I work part time and already have kids and would love to study again but I just know I wouldn't be disciplined enough to find the time...

So FB groups - you mean there are folk selling stuff on Facebook? How do I find these groups?! (I'm not really on FB but have a profile)....

You lot are v knowledgeable!

Tired day today. DC1 up in night with tummy bug. Trying to get the energy to get DC2 out her cot as she is lying there singing to herself!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/07/2014 08:22

Not sure whether it was forcing DH to rub my back or the pillow fort I constructed in bed, but my back feels a bit better today! Hurrah. Last day at work before I get a rare weekend off, yay!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 11/07/2014 08:43

Oh Daddy I am doing an Msc in Biological recording- lots of ecology anf species identification so every few weeks I head off to a field centre and spend three days at school. Its really hard work, esp when deadlines are all at once but I do love it. I've met some wonderful people too. I graduated many years ago in ecology, had a fre jobs then when they dried up ended up in customer service, and now facilities management. in a bid to change my career back in line with my interests, and thinking I couldn't get pregnant, I did this Msc. I was working PT when I started it, but skintness one and I took a job as a facilities manager for a housing charity which is a nuts job. All in all I cant wait for Maternity leave! Grin

liesal79 · 11/07/2014 09:40

Hi all - Do you mind if I join. I am 16+3 and due 23/12. This is my first after 3 miscarriages and I am scared! Getting there more and more every day, and would love to be able to talk to people in the same boat as me! :)

espa · 11/07/2014 09:46

Hi liseal, we are due date twins. :)

Waiting for midwife, she is late...I have work to do, come on!!

ffallada · 11/07/2014 09:50

Taura what's an oddson? Is it God son?

My sis has two children with November birthdays and they have a second one in June for their friends (but then my sister is one of those über-parents)

I'm a bit confused by travel systems and would greatly appreciate some advice on what to look for, if anyone has the time? What to look out for? I have a which magazine subscription which shows the top 10, but am still just confused!

Also a bit sad this morning as my mum is back in hospital despite me taking her (unwillingly) to the GP's twice yesterday. First GP was a knob, didn't listen at all, was rude, and handed out a prescription for pills my mum couldn't take despite me questioning her on it. Knob.

Second GP at the out of hours place was much nicer, but I have (rather selfishly) used all my energy to get her there so declined to stay the night at my parents preferring to get some sleep in my own bed. Crawled into bed at one ish. So I wasn't there when she woke at 5 to be rushed to the hospital. She's now an inpatient (where I would rather she had been several days ago). I woke up tireder than I went to sleep, keep crying, and haven't taken the dog out yet. (He's usually walked at seven) So am basically a crap mum before I've even managed to have a baby. And I'm a crap daughter for being selfish. I could easily have stayed the night.

Sorry for the rant, but I do feel better for writing it down. Husband back from work away thingy tonight, so that's good. Although he'll be hungover at least he can walk the dog! Mum and I were going to look up prams on the Internet today, which makes me sad.

miraculous2 · 11/07/2014 10:28

Hi folks,
We've got another few days' breathing space / anxious waiting. Things were still within a satisfactory range at this morning's scan, although the membrane is down on top of little twin now, less space than before although he/she can still move.
I was dreading finding one gone this morning - we took ourselves off out of town the last couple of days and enjoyed beautiful scenery and weather and a bit of something like normality and then the reality hit hard as we left for the hospital.
Anyway, we saw their little toes and lips and fingers, those incredible spines... wow, what miracles they are, every one. Wishing with all my heart I can get them to a safe gestation to make it on the outside.
Next scan Monday and my own consultant is on labour ward all week so I'll have to be extra vigilant with whoever I get as I haven't built the trust and dialogue with anyone else that I have with mine - she's really something. Am on a FB support group now, very knowledgable they are too, and their advice is to be quite pushy as some of them have lost one between scans and needed to be seen urgently but were fobbed off. My consultant told me not to let anyone fob me off too. Watching my symptoms closely and trying to think of nice things to do quite close to home.

18+5 and every day is one more day that I'm a twin mummy.

Ladylel · 11/07/2014 10:34

miraculous I think of you every day ! Especially as we're twin buddies!!! I can't cross anything hard enough for you.

oodaddy if you search FB as you would a normal person you can come across things like Facebay or something similar for your area. Or bumps and babies etc it's a bit of a try and test thing. I was added to the ones I am on by a friend of people in my area (about 10 miles ish)

CoventGarden75 · 11/07/2014 11:15

ffallada you've got a lot on your plate atm and you're being way too hard on yourself. Caring and worrying for your mum must be tough and emotionally demanding. At the same time you need to look after yourself and baby too. Do you have any other family members around that could give you a hand? Big hug and I hope your mum feels better soon.

miraculous good to know you've found some support, and to hear all is still within normal range, I would agree with others, if you feel you need urgent medical attention, ask until you get it, better safe than sorry. Fx the days til Monday will go smoothly for you.

Welcome liesal, congrats but sorry to hear about your previous losses, there is another thread you might be interested in: due dec after mc

miraculous2 · 11/07/2014 11:49

Here they are - recipient twin is the brighter picture of the two. That's Mana, and the little donor twin is 'Uhila (Thunder and Lightning in daddy's language - our nicknames for them). You can see the amniotic membrane on top of 'Uhila's face. Mana is swimming around in five star luxury but is pictured here at the narrow end.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 11/07/2014 11:55

oohdaddypig I don't mind which at all. They did have a proper look and went back a couple of times to double check and said "most probably" a girl but I think it must be easier to see a definite boy rather than a definite girl mustn't it, so I'm not surprised they didn't want to say 100% girl!

Told ds he was getting a sister and he seems happy enough. If the baby turns out to be a boy we'll explain why we got it wrong then. Grin

PolytheneGirl · 11/07/2014 17:54

So after all my talk of "I wouldn't buy anything new" I'm now buying a new double buggy as I need on and I love, love, love the Phil&Teds Promenade. I was trying to pick one up on eBay but was still looking at anything between £300-500 plus the cost of driving miles to pick it up. I've just found them reduced with a load of extras on kiddicare with free delivery for £400. Well happy with that! Grin

Haven't told DH yet..... Oops!

monkeybaby2 · 11/07/2014 19:20

Re travel systems, we got a maxicosi pebble to use with an isofix base. Isofix is the way to go if your car will take it, check this link to see www.maxi-cosi.com/products/car-seats/car-fitting.aspx The base stays safely clipped to your chassi and you just click the seat on and off. Quick and safe. We went with maxicosi as it fit our iCandy peach pushchair with a couple of adapters. Very handy when El Munchkino has fallen asleep in the car and you need to push them somewhere.

Maxicosi seats can also be seat belted into another car so handy if we were transferring DD to my Mum's. DD now has a maxicosi Rubi as the pebble was so great.

monkeybaby2 · 11/07/2014 19:24

And Miraculous, your babies look beautiful. Crossing everything for you x

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 11/07/2014 19:36

And in addition to monkeybaby2's advice on isofix, if your car doesn't have isofix, like mine, then you can get this wonderful device; Maxi-Cosi Easybase

You fix the base into the car using the seatbelt so that the maxi cosi seat (I have bought a cabriofix for this baby) clicks in and out of it easily.

As I drive a 2 door Mini, getting the baby in and out of the back seat was a priority for me so I was really pleased to discover the Easybase existed.

Taura · 11/07/2014 19:53

ffallada my oddchildren are god children whose parents had a naming ceremony with me and a couple of adults as responsible adults like godparents.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/07/2014 19:57

I read the maternity policy at work today and there's an option for "I don't know if I'm coming back, so don't pay me any extra benefits please", and then if you don't go back you don't have to pay anything back, but if you do, you get it back paid. Yay! I can defer my decision for another year Grin turns out I am entitled to extra benefits, shockingly and awkwardly.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/07/2014 20:19

Alsooooo... My wedding ring is really loose all of a sudden! It's usually a bit tight, but it slips right off now. I was expecting my fingers to swell up (not sure why...).

espa · 11/07/2014 20:29

Miraculous, beautiful babies. Thinking of you xx
