its and nancy I think that is all a birth 'plan' can ever be!

nancy hope you get strep b questions answered. ..

liquid I'm torn between ohh isn't this relaxing freedom time nice- can do what I want, get up when I want, go wherever I want. And get this baby out I want cuddles!!!

mummy hope that neighbour dramq doesn't continue tonight- I think I would have been scared too if I heard loud noise as so quiet round here too!

howly heres hoping it lasts less than 3 weeks!!

Seriously ladies is 25hour labour normal? Am terrified of this now!!! Sad

Kept waking up with awful hip pain all night, I just want to lie on my back! Still snotty this morning but trying to hide it from dh so he doesn't feel bad (mainly by pretending to still be asleep/then actually drifting off!)

Howly · 03/07/2014 07:19

I told my midwife when the cramps first started last week as I had them at a routine appointment but she says just take paracetamol! She also said babies head was engaged but not by how much!

I managed to sleep from 4-7 but still sore in my lower abdomen now, feels bruised and the period pain feeling still there! Baby is still wiggling around so she's ok, just me whose now tired and grumpy! Reluctant to call midwife only to be told it bh and just to put up and shut up or go to labour and be told it's nothing!

Howly · 03/07/2014 07:20

Labour ward*

Plateofcrumbs · 03/07/2014 08:06

its that sounds like my birth plan, only without the water still bitter about the MLU thing

mummy - have loads I want to do with new sewing machine. Refurb my Ikea Poang chair for the nursery. Cushions. Ideally make a little patchwork quilt. Am going to start with some baby bibs for practice.

Make a cot mobile - this one is my current inspiration, but working with more smaller pom poms hanging on a hoop.

Not crafts as such but make some jam (squirrels have currently had more of my strawberries than I have!) and do some batch cooking and baking.

Almost disappointed it is so sunny today as am itching to get started but should make the most of the weather.

BlueC2 · 03/07/2014 08:55

ickle possibly too organised-what if I go overdue and have another 3 weeks to wake

mummy so sorry you were kept awake with neighbour's domestic-not fun!

Inca I was SO bored when I couldn't sleep last night!

its I went in with exactly that mentality last time re pain relief. If you can use a pool I would highly recommend it. I combined with gas and air and braced against the sides of the pool with each contraction and then zoned out and rested in between.

Going to take DS to the park this morning-hoping pushing swings and walking around will bring back the period like cramps from last night and get things moving #operationbabyeviction continues :)

icklekid · 03/07/2014 09:14

plate that's so weird I've just been looking at diy mobiles here www.babble.com/pregnancy/12-beautiful-diy-baby-mobiles/

blue I want to be really active today but am so tired not sure how much will manage! Already cancelled coffee in town with a friend as can't see me leaving the house any time soon. ..

fifi669 · 03/07/2014 09:14

Had hoped mowing the lawn yesterday might encourage things to get going but to no avail. Baby seems to be actively avoiding the business end and bump is very high!

Oh well, pre op today lunchtime to talk through everything, do tests and get my sexy DVT socks ready for Monday :)

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2014 09:28

Has anyone else been having sharp, evil pains around the lower part of their bump? MW says it's almost definitely ligament pain so I am not to worry but it hurts so very much. Kept me awake for ages last night, and baby moving around didn't help. Ah well, at least it's not there today.

Did pretty much nothing yesterday so hoping to tackle more of my pre-baby list today. Have 22 items on it, and only 4 are ticked.

BlueC2 · 03/07/2014 09:44

I seem to have zero energy today - suspect it may be the prospect of having DS all day after having DH home sat/sun, childminder Mon/Tues and DH off yesterday so have had 5 'easy' days. Love the little man SO much just he's so very energetic at the moment! Want to treasure all these last bits of time with him before baby comes but also just want to sleep- feel rather conflicted!

kiwi I get some shooting jabbing pains going down through bottom of bump.

plate that's an impressive list of things to do. Make sure you rest at some point!

ismarah · 03/07/2014 09:48

Wahey we have latch on both sides now! Oddly, DH has been very helpful (and touched my boobs / nipples more than in previous weeks, if not months) - I never realised BF was a team sport.

Bean's preferred position is basically on the boob at all times but partly as feeding, partly as cushion and partly as pacifier. She's relatively quiet so far so we don't mind.

We came home yesterday after an awful night in the hospital, this is much better. Things I liked about the section: it was straightforward and friendly and didn't feel that alien despite the number of people because everyone made an effort to introduce themselves and congratulate us. Oddly, I liked the catheter as it was very hot and getting up to wee did not sound nice at all. I liked the extra assistance we got for feeding bean. Lochia has been minimal and I lost only a very small amount of blood in the surgery.

I didn't like the night shifts - lots of EMCS meant I kind of got left to my own devices which was actually pretty grim Tuesday night. I don't like the anti-clotting injections I have to give myself, they make my legs twitchy. When the bandages came off Tuesday night I discovered that I am missing several patches of skin which actually hurt quite a bit. I didn't like the food - too much of it to suit me but also too far apart -> lots of nausea.

Bean is Emily Alexandra btw.

Incapinka · 03/07/2014 12:23

Going to do a number of posts as want to attempt to get names and comments right which after minimal sleep is tricky at the best of times!

Ismarah congratulations on being home! Glad feeding sounds like it it going ok. It is bonkers at the beginning but does settle down. Very pretty name too!

Incapinka · 03/07/2014 12:25

Blue I know the feeling. There is just no let up with a toddler unless they decide to have a nap which DS manages about every other day. DH is now on leave. Was meant to have had all week off but today is the first day. So far have seen him for about 20 minutes as he went off on a 2.5 hour run and is now having a sports massage. Alright for some eh?

Incapinka · 03/07/2014 12:26

Fifi hope pre op goes ok. Let us know how it goes

Incapinka · 03/07/2014 12:29

Oh and had MIL on the phone earlier supposedly to find out what's happening with the chicken house she has asked DH to order. So transparent. She just wanted to find out whether I had popped and was hiding the baby from her (she doesn't have a very high opinion of us - unless she can get discount on chicken houses that is!)

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 03/07/2014 14:34

inca Love the idea that you would be hiding the fact you've given birth! People are weird.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in my 'no plan plan' guys.

ismarah welcome home to you and baby Emily! And hurray for latching on both sides.

Hope pre op goes ok fifi

Is anyone else feeling terrible in this heat? I've felt nauseous most of today (in a morning sickness way) and was sick last night. Had a midwife appointment earlier but she just said to keep an eye on it and if it continues to phone triage. Desperately trying to make it go away through eating like I could with morning sickness!

Baby is apparently 3/5 engaged now but I'm not entirely sure what that means. Off to google...

BlueC2 · 03/07/2014 15:16

ismarah well done with the BF and glad you're home-much better to be in your place! Great that DH has been such a help too! I found BF v satisfying watching the little chubby cheeks develop and knowing it was my milk that had done it :) hope you enjoy it too.

Inca your MIL makes me giggle though tbh we had a not dissimilar call (minus the chicken shed bit!) on Tuesday evening. They were at our house waiting when we got back from the hospital with DS so unlikely we're just going to forget to mention it to them!

I managed to wear DS out this morning so he's napping but also wore myself out (too hot!) so have had a nap but still feel like a zombie! DH's work reckon baby will come Monday morning, be a boy and 7lb4oz! I wonder who's sweepstake entry that is?!

its sorry you're feeling so sick-main thing is to keep your fluids up and rest so you avoid getting dehydrated as that can make you nauseous. 3/5ths engaged means MW can only feel 2/5ths of baby above your pelvic bone (I think) but they also interchange terms so couldve meant 3/5ths palpable which means they can still feel 3/5ths iyswim. Eitherway baby is in a good head down position :)

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 03/07/2014 15:53

Thanks blue. I've just had a nap and feel a lot better for it. Going to take a book and a mug of raspberry leaf tea out into the garden and see if that continues to help. Hope you feel less zombie like soon!

Glad that it means things are heading in the right direction (now please stay down baby holiday - and stop making me feel sick!).

BlueC2 · 03/07/2014 16:01

Glad you're feeling a bit better its

Tesco shop just came which forced me to wake up. Now just enjoying the last few quiet moments before I go and wake DS up...he seems to be having a mega nap 3 hours!! I shouldn't complain though it is such a huge blessing that he still naps well as it gives me a good break, long may it last!

Collie1806 · 03/07/2014 16:08

Afternoon all,

Just been for my 40wk MW appointment and she did a membrane sweep.
She said baby has dropped so much and cervix is so posterior she couldn't reach it properly to do the sweep.
I feel silly for asking but what does that even mean? Will it be harder for my cervix to move to an anterior position because his head is there? Will it mean I'm more likely to go overdue? Confused

I just don't understand!

Thanks in advance Grin

ismarah · 03/07/2014 16:12

Put on a bra this afternoon for the first time since Monday with somewhat surreal results: no more bra extender required when Sunday I was as far extended as possible! Suspect once actual milk comes in rather than just colostrum the cups will be too small but for today I am relatively slim!

I got weighed as part of the preop and found I'd put on about 7-8kgs in pregnancy so am quite pleased.

In weird mother news: mum was very happy to tell me how many people had phoned them to say congratulations on their first grandkid and how happy everyone 'back home' was...she was oddly offended when I said that was lovely but it would have been nice to have some calls ourselves...
She said people probably hadn't called because I don't call anyone and nobody has my number! Except when cousins have had babies or weddings or anything else noteworthy I've sent presents - direct to the person rather than to their parents - and I've had the same landline and mobile phone numbers, email and address since 2004.

She was quite teary on being told bean had arrived though and didn't care (at the time) it was via the dreaded CS. wonder how long that will last?

Plateofcrumbs · 03/07/2014 16:37

I must say that both here and in my NCT group (who are now 3 of 8 babies arrived) I'm just in awe of the fact that some of us have babies. And yet can still type, chat, generally create the impression of being normal human beings etc. It sort of feels to me like we are all in airport departures and am expecting everyone to disappear off one by one to some distant mysterious land, never to return. That probably makes no sense! Grin

Had a midwife check this morning and midwives struggling to determine what this baby is doing with itself. "It's all baby in there" apparently (not sure what else she was expecting to be in there - a boot, old shopping trolley?) But lots of limbs and very difficult to feel the head, so we concluded it maybe wasn't a baby after all but a headless octopus. It does seem slightly odd, after having so many scans (I think I must be up to 20, I lost count!) at this stage to be relying on people poking my bump and looking a bit baffled.

NancyinCali · 03/07/2014 16:53

Congratulations ismarah! Beautiful name (DD1 is Emily). Pleased you're home and settling into newborn life. Yes my DH helped a lot with BF in the early days too. Didn't expect so many hands to be involved in the process!

I haven't caught up with everyone else's news yet, off to read some more while I lie in bed with horrible back pain - feels like my whole lower back has seized up :(. Thank goodness for nursery today. And it's July 4th tomorrow so DH will be off for the day - hopefully we'll make it out to see a parade.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 03/07/2014 16:56

Made sense to me Plate. Its nice that people are taking thetime to post back. It would be weird after supporting each other through the last 8 or 9 months that people just disappeared!

I usually use my laptop as I prefer a keyboard but have been given an old Chinese tablet by my brother to take into hospital with me so I can mumsnet. My standard phone is a blackberry and my work phone I can only use for instagram pics and uploading them to facebook. All very complicated for me as complete technophobe...

NancyinCali · 03/07/2014 16:57

blue I know what you mean about the conflict. DD is amazing and full of energy and fun but exhausting too. I'm trying to enjoy the last days of it just being us as well. Peppa pig has been coming to the rescue when I just need to lie down for a bit! And she's been a pain with naps lately - doesn't want to sleep although luckily she did 1.5 hours yesterday.

fifi669 · 03/07/2014 17:07

Pre op went well, I seem to be a straight forward case (famous last words) and have to be in Monday at 7.15am.They guessed that depending on the order we go in, with no emergency admissions queue jumping I should be in within 2 hours. Nil by mouth from 6.30, liquids only from midnight. All getting a bit real.

Appointment was 12.30, didn't get out til 4 so practically a day wasted waiting about.... Grrrr
