I didn't realise that bump! Yes mastitis and a blocked duct without a duct unblocking hoover aka a BF baby (they really can unblock them with their super suction) would be so bloody unfair.

I might treat myself to a wired nursing bra for special occasions too. I got scared off underwired bra and a million and one other things when BF by a HV who clearly didn't know what she was talking about but thought that scaring women was helpful....

It sounds shallow but I do wonder what my boobs will end up like after 2 pregnancies and (hopefully) BF two kids back to back. A friend had awful mastitis and at one point had one DD boob and one B boob because of the swelling, but now after 6 months since BF her boobs are back to normal and she claims they are getting perkier! I hope that's what happens to me too, though by the time I finish BF this one (I'd like to do it to 18 months or 2) I'll be ancient so can't really expect my lovely pert norks from my yoof. I never noticed mine sagging from BF but I did notice them losing tone from pregnancy due to the stretchy ligament thingy. I guess I won't know until I'm done.

DH and J never seemed to mind, in the words of that wonderful woman Caitlin Moran - the only folks who see my boobs these days are either a randy husband or a hungry baby and both are immensely grateful Wink. It does wonders for the self confidence.

My cousin got a blocked milk duct which developed into mastitis 3 years after she had stopped bf-ing her daughter which she only did for a few weeks! I think the mere fact that your breast produce milk puts you at potential risk of a blocked duct! Ouchy!

Dotty Ps has got an extra 10% of sale items with the code EXTRA10 . I just picked up a swimsuit, trousers and a dress for £28 in their maternity range...

Also the John lewis clearance starts at 8pm tonight! Hoping they may have a few baby bargains too ;)

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 25/06/2014 11:49

My boobs went back to normal after 2 years of bf. They seemed softer for a while, but by the time I got pg again they had firmed up again. there's a theory that the fat cells empty while you are bf, but fill up again after you stop. Think you have to be patient, it doesn't happen overnight. Also think you can't avoid age-related sagginess, unless perhaps you spend your whole life as a size 6 and always wear a bra!

YellowWellies · 25/06/2014 12:00

hmmm definitely not spent my whole life as a size 6! Good to know that the 'BF wrecks your boobs' is a myth too!

YellowWellies · 25/06/2014 12:22

Mum2 thanks - just got a pair of work trousers and two tops for my new job for £28. Bargain!

Re carrycot cat apart from not being parent facing I wanted the option because although the pram could lie flat it doesn't have as much shelter from the elements! For me, this matters as our main use of pram will be on dog walk, when it can start raining etc. Also will be using for naps downstairs. We won't really use the car seat much though, or be getting the bus. We tend to stick quite local.

Fedup I can't decide whether to get the 360 or a standard ergo, but think would like the option to carry sometimes and not always use pram.

Had my 25 week appt today. So lovely to hear the baby's heartbeat again. Makes me very happy Smile

Loulou888 · 25/06/2014 13:11

Feel the same london had an appointment today too :)

FlipFantasia · 25/06/2014 13:16

Frau it's so interesting how things are different in different countries! The German sitting thing came up on my first antenatal thread (German doctor who was v anti bumbos etc). Makes such sense! Here in the States people seem totally ignorant of any issue with car seats/sitting. Babies will spend hours a day in their car seats (and every summer an extremely sad article from the Washington post gets circulated about the dangers of forgetting your rear facing infant in your car, with tragic fatal consequences...). I should really check what the official advice is from the paediatrics association.

On those debating 360/regular ergo, my kids never seemed to care about outward facing carrying (which I think is a kind of made up thing - look at the developing world, where babies are routinely carried with no stress about outward facing or not). Just thought I'd mention it if there's a significant difference in price!

Also anyone wondering about carrying an infant with a toddler - I totally recommend it! Means you can still go out and about while at that almost constant napping stage. And have hands free for playground etc. We never bothered with a lie flat pram for dd (DS hated his mountain buggy which had been given to us so never bothered with dd). DD then just went into our maclaren quest at 6 months (was still carried often then).

For those considering birth plans this is hilarious

mum2kiss · 25/06/2014 13:48

This pregnancy brain thing really has me in its grip! flip I totally thought you meant to carry both infant and toddler at the same time!! I was thinking "Yes hands free, but back broken!". I had to read that paragraph about 4 times before it sank in!

FlipFantasia · 25/06/2014 13:51

Mum Grin

Lol hilarious fatpony

ohthegoats · 25/06/2014 14:10

I'm not embarrassed about breastfeeding in public, or anywhere else. I just don't think I'm that interested beyond a few weeks or so. I get that it's easier, and I'll do my best to do it for 3 months so long as i dont hate it, but I want my body back. Not in appearance particularly, but in 'ownership' for want of a better word. Christmas is likely to be my limit, which will be a year of feeling trapped by my body. Definitely enough for me.

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 25/06/2014 14:11

Flip - the German attitude seems to make sense, except that I'm not aware of any epidemic of back/hip problems in the UK/US that doesn't exist here. Otoh, postural habits and sedentary lifestyles are not much different anywhere in the developed world and any advantage gained by not being in a Bumbo as a four mth old is probably wiped out by the time a child gets to school and starts spending most of its day sitting.

YellowWellies · 25/06/2014 14:24

Car seats are definitely bad if the baby has reflux as they squish up their tums and make them slump but laid flat is shit for it too. Best thing for us I think is going to be the ergo.

Goats I totally get that! Though have to say I can still get a bit touched out even now I'm not BF, as some days all they want is to be attached to you. Its very sweet to be such a source of comfort but I'm always ready for DH to come home and take over!

Pregnantagain7 · 25/06/2014 14:39

Hi all, really shit couple of days for me, my 3 yr old dd fell and broke her arm last night :( got to a and e at 7 and didn't get home til midnight then she hardly slept last night because it was hurting her.
While the hospital were fantastic it was horrible not being able to go in when she was x rayed her dad had to do it instead :( it took five of us to hold her down while they put the cast on awful awful experience she was screaming so much. All she wants is to lie on me or by carried round not easy at 24 weeks pregnant! Throw a 9 month old baby in too and I'm slowly losing the will to live!!
She has finally fell asleep so have been able to brush my teeth before I do the school run can't imagine what I would have done if I had a newborn as well!

Hope everyone's having a better time than me and dd!!

tak1ngchances · 25/06/2014 14:40

Snap goats. I want to breastfeed til Christmas and then have a happy new bra on January 1st.

tak1ngchances · 25/06/2014 15:04

Oh no pregnant! So sorry to hear about your little girl :-(
Hope she feels better v soon. Hug for you both (don't care if it's mumsnet-approved to hug or not)

YellowWellies · 25/06/2014 15:21

Pregnant oh no! Poor poppet. Poor you! They heal very quick at that age fingers crossed she's back to herself soon. J is such a limpet the second he's only slightly poorly. A broken limb doesn't bear thinking about. Get well soon DD1 xx

Pregnant oh your poor dd! And poor you, what a horrible thing to happen. Hope she heals soon xo

puppythedog · 25/06/2014 16:28

Goats we bought Mrsthedog some bras from Mothercare in 40 H I think. They were not underwired but do seem to support her.

regarding prams etc, I'm really happy with our Graco Evo set which was on offer at 330 pounds for the chasis, puschair bit and pram/carry cot bit and car seat. It's forward and rear facing and looks fab. What's the deal about leaving them in seats too long? I think I've missed something there, is there a limit? I'm just thinking of the longer journeys I'd like us all to make.

Over half way now by quite a measure for some.

YellowWellies · 25/06/2014 16:34

I think its recommended no more than two hours a day when wee? TBH most babies will tell you loooooong before this point. Loudly.
