Ah ok I knew I'd read it somewhere, I have such a foggy brain these days. To be honest I'll probably tell her even if it comes back high risk as I'd need her support.

That's so weird about codeine too vivi we must have similar reactions to things. Are you allergic to penicillin too?! Codeine makes me very sick - exorcist style!! I told the midwife this at booking in and she made a face, she said they use it a lot in labour and other related painkillers (which also make me sick) so I'd probably only be able to have paracetamol Shock

RPopz · 09/06/2014 22:25

I wouldn't worry too much about the NT measurement on the day, unless the sonographer specifically mentions it. I've seen some suspicious NTs come out with nice low risks and some ordinary looking NTs come out with high risks. I guess on the surface of it that doesn't sound very comforting but what I'm trying to say is the risk is deduced from many combined factors! So don't get hung up on numbers on the day. xxx

RPopz · 09/06/2014 22:29

Saras - my stepmum gave birth on 2 paracetamol Grin

ViviPru · 09/06/2014 23:24

Thanks for reassurance RPopz

I'm allergic to pethadine too... Maybe we're just designed to feel the pain Grin

My worst morning of nausea and vomiting today. Did someone say that there's a hormone surge around 10 weeks? Not looking forward to my commute today

KeepOnPloddingOn · 10/06/2014 06:50

Bug- oh no! Yep, a lot of us have had a real hormone/ sickness surge around 9/10 weeks. You are not alone. :)

ChineseFireball · 10/06/2014 06:57

Hello to the new ladies, congratulations and welcome!

You guys asking about the NT thing - last time we had an NT measurement of 2.6mm and it came back after bloods as 1:66000. I was 36 at the time. The explanatory notes with my scan appointment letter say that if the result comes back as high risk (which I think is 1:150) they will ring with results in 2-3 days. Otherwise I will get a letter in a couple of weeks. So it seems from that that no news is good news. And even with a risk score of 1:150 that is a 149:150 chance that everything is fine - more than 99 percent.

I don't know whether that is reassuring at all!

Still feeling sick here and have had 3 consecutive days where I've actually been sick which is the worst it's been so far - I'm hoping it's going to ease off shortly though - fingers crossed!

Does anyone know whether there are any antihistamines we can take? I'm sure some of the nausea is related to the continually clogged throat and nose - I'm thinking it could be hayfever?

Scan is a week today...eeeeeep!

11 + 3

Saraswati · 10/06/2014 07:11

chinese cyclizine which I'm on for sickness, is actually an antihistamine but I think you have to be prescribed it. I don't know whether you can buy it over the counter. Maybe you could call your gp? My scan is a week today too Shock

My risk from just my age was 1 in 1000 and something, seemed pretty low but obviously it has to happen to someone. We're just telling closest family and friends after the scan and it'll take us a couple of weeks to get round everyone so hopefully will have the risk back before we've told too many people. I'm not announcing at work for ages and hate fb scan pictures so I probably won't say anything on fb until it's born!!

11 weeks today and I can't quite believe I've got this far!

Bohemond · 10/06/2014 07:20

Thanks for all your welcomes ladies.

I got through the day long meeting without too much trouble (I scoffed dried mango the whole way through - good for keeping me alert and good for down below).

I have my booking in appointment on Monday. Does anyone know if I might be offered an early scan given my advanced years (41)? If not, I'll book myself in for one.

I'd also like to do the 12 week scan on a specific week (it will be 11.5) as I have a night out with best girlfriends and a weekend with family planned. Am dying to tell them but want to wait until the all clear.

My mum is going to flip - she has no idea we were ttc.

Bugaboom · 10/06/2014 08:00

Sorry to hear so many people suffering with sickness but also glad I'm not alone! I thought it had passed last week but obviously not!

ViviPru · 10/06/2014 09:23

Yeah me too. Friends of ours didn't tell anyone outside their close family until they saw them in person during the pregnancy. They live the other end of the country from us and we keep in touch over text email and FB, but had no idea she was pregnant. She was about 30w when we had a get together, and it was such a fantastic surprise when we opened the door to them. I loved it!

My mum is going to flip - she has no idea we were ttc. Same!

Chinese thanks for sharing your experience of NT screening. With it so imminent it's really helping me to hear of others' experience. My GP has prescribed my regular antihistamine nasal spray that I use ordinarily saying it's fine during pregnancy.

deuscat · 10/06/2014 09:27

I've been wondering how to tell people as well. I will obviously be telling all family and close friends straight after scan. I will probably then at some point do a Facebook announcement because we have so many friends spread around the country that we see rarely. But now I'm wondering whether or not to just leave it. Oh the decisions! Facebook just seems a quick way of telling all our friends but I'm not keen on scan pics going on.

Ikkleme · 10/06/2014 09:34

Omg! Tired overload today :-( so hard to concentrate at work!

Saraswati · 10/06/2014 10:05

vivi we're going to try and tell all our friends and family face to face, we are going up to see DHs family in Liverpool the weekend after the scan so will fit in some friends then too. Most friends we'll probably see over the next few weeks. I actually want to see their faces when I tell them so I won't even be texting most of our friends, I can't wait they are all going to be so surprised. Plus I know of several friends who just put it on fb before telling people and their close friends were offended they weren't important enough for at least a phone call.

I don't want to offend anyone but I do think fb scan pictures are really weird - like here's a picture of the inside of my womb for all to see!! Also I think it's weird that children are on fb before they even arrive in the world. I'm going to be putting minimal baby pictures on fb too, my DH works in internet security so is very paranoid about these things. Plus I don't think it's right to plaster kids all over the internet before they have a choice in the matter. (So says the woman talking about all of her pregnancy ailments on the internet!!)

ViviPru · 10/06/2014 10:31

I'm a big FB photo sharer but feel similar. I think my aversion to scan pics is not in and of themselves, rather that it's so ubiquitous. There's one every other week in my news feed and it kind of diminishes the importance of it somewhat. A bit like oh there's another person updiffed... which really is quite a sad reaction when I think about it. That said if someone felt it was something they were keen to do I wouldn't be thinking it was wrong of them or judging them unfavorably.

I want to tell friends face to face too and have a good month or so of get togethers over the summer that I have kind of orchestrated for this very purpose... I think the majority are going to be very shocked indeed!

gingysmummy · 10/06/2014 10:36

I'll be telling most of my friends face to face as some will be hard to tell due to them having probs ttc. But I will also be doing a fb annocement all being well, as I have lots of family and friends overseas. There will not be a pic tho my fruit of my womb is private Grin

Saraswati · 10/06/2014 10:44

vivi I'm having a big BBQ for my birthday at the end of July most I will see before then but I might just invite a load of people and wait to see their faces when I open the door all massive and pregnant! I like the sounds of your friend who just showed up 30w gone!!

Anyone know when the exhaustion lifts a bit? 11 weeks today and I just feel more and more tired everyday :(

cheshirem2b · 10/06/2014 10:50

We have friends all over fb and relatives abroad so fb is a good way to communicate with them but we will probably send close friends/relatives who we can't speak to (I have a great uncle and aunt who live in Canada and are quite ill so the time difference hinders communication) emails to let them know with a scan picture.
My DH is a hobby photographer so there will be loads of baby pics on fb, flikr etc - We are very up on the security though and only share with people we approve (i.e. friends and family).
I thought I was coming out of the fatigue stage as I was quite awake yesterday evening and then at 4am I was wide awake so am now in work and shattered!

9 sleeps until scan day! Grin

No word of a lie - I just clicked on FB and look what's top of my newsfeed! Hilarious.

I just had a scan at the EPU and everything is fine! Such a relief, saw the little bean, it's baby shaped for sure! 2cm long with a strong heartbeat. The staff at the Homerton were wonderful, I'm so happy that I decided to go there for my antenatal and birth.
Thanks everyone for the support, it's so appreciated.
Xxx

ViviPru · 10/06/2014 11:08

Great news Camsie!

KatnissEvermean · 10/06/2014 11:11

Last night was the first time in ages that I fancied a proper meal, and managed to keep it down. Thought I was feeling better, but my breakfast this morning reappeared really quickly. My sympathies to everyone suffering with morning sickness.

I think I am going to keep things off Facebook as much as possible. I am going to tell everyone important in person or over the phone, and I'm not that bothered about making an announcement to everyone else. I'm sure they'll figure it eventually!

I have caught a taxi to work the last two mornings because I needed an extra half hour sleep and couldn't be bothered to walk to the bus station.

KatnissEvermean · 10/06/2014 11:11

That's fantastic news, Camsie!
