I hope your midwife can reassure you whiteblossom sounds like the HV was being unprofessional, there was no need to single you out.
DS was 8lb 11oz. I've put on more weight this pregnancy with DS2, I'm expecting he'll be 9lb something but I'm not worried - most things I've read say big babies can be just as easy to birth as small ones.
Xx

Teabiscuits · 22/07/2014 14:34

white I think me feeling sick is a combination of what you said plus the heat plus just general pregnancy bleugh! I feel better now so shouldn't be anything nasty, there's been a lot going around here, and we are due to go on holiday on Saturday so I think I'm just paranoid too!

My biggest baby was by far the most straightforward and least painful birth. Ok I tend to have small babies and she was still only 7lb 3, but it hurt a lot less than ds who was 6lb5. It was a lot slower and more controlled, and I gradually pushed her out over 40 mins, ds flew out in 2 pushes which hurt a lot more. My first was 6lb 14 and a forceps delivery, which was really not as bad as other people make out anyway.

My sister pushed out my 8lb7 niece when she had just turned 16. I dont think she had even really finished growing then, and she's only 5'3 now!

Some small babies are difficult, some big babies are easy. From everything I have experienced and seen with other people, size really isn't everything!

Hi everyone, finally catching up & checking in, it's been a mad couple of weeks as we finally moved house! So relieved as it looked like it was going to fall through last min after months of delays. So nice to be in and actually start preparing for baby. Feel so much more relaxed already. Can't believe I'm 34 weeks already!

Been struggling health wise - baby is absolutely fine, as am I apparently, but my pulse keeps jumping to 140 when all I'm doing is standing up :( I've been told it's normal for pregnancy, but it's causing me a lot of issues with doing anything other than sitting down :( work is practically impossible and I've had to call in sick several times as I just can't stand up! Just don't know what to do other than rest all day, which I find terribly boring!

White - even if your baby was large (which seems to be no indication of) doesn't mean the labour would be harder. I was 10+lbs when born (2 weeks overdue with GD), and according to my mum I shot out, think she only laboured for an hour or two! My older brother was only just 6lbs, and younger was 7.5, so not like she had done it before!

whiteblossom · 22/07/2014 15:13

Yay Congrats on the house move coolcat. Sounds like you are going to have to take it really easy-frustrating as you have just moved!

I have heard that a few times that big babies are easier to push out...

Tea yes the heat is most definatly a factor. Ive just hovered and that's made me feel sick even though I have eaten. Its 25d in my lounge even with a fan on.

I cant face the ironing in this heat.

ilovemonstersInc · 22/07/2014 15:44

Yay for cool!
My pulse has been a little fast this time but they just checked it regularly while I was in hospital and that wasit.

Feel painy again. Had some horrible pains and now ive got loose stools sorry tmi. Ive not had anything I shouldn't have. I had the same dinner 3 days in a row lol.

hang in there Ilove.

LH1981 · 22/07/2014 18:49

whiteblossom don't listen. Without a scan, they can't really tell. With my first I was HUGE (people would stop me in the street and ask if it was twins). My GP at the time told me that after measuring my pelvis there was no chance of a natural birth and to prepare for a c-section. Obviously I was then terrified for the rest of my pregnancy but DS1 was born naturally at 7lbs 8oz and I had no stitches or anything. I just carry a lot of water it seems - and I'm huge this time with ds3!

Just saw midwife today and I'm measuring 35 weeks at 31 weeks. She said to expect an early delivery (which has been my feeling all along) as baby is head down. Between us, we don't reckon I will make my 37 week deadline for a home birth. Pah!

ella don't panic! If the dress is cotton you can dye it black again. I've dyed loads of stuff in the past, it's a bit messy, definitely one I'd reccomend doing in the garden in old clothes, but I've had good results, including on bleach damaged stuff. First discovered it doing tie dye with the kids, great fun and they get unique funky (if very dated!) clothes Grin .

Teabiscuits · 22/07/2014 19:28

I have just realised I am laying on the sofa, with my feet on the back of it so they are nearly hanging out the window with my dress up round my knickers. There is a breeze coming through the window and its bliss! Luckily the neighbours can't see (as far as I know!) Actually I don't care if they can see. I'm too comfy to move.

Ella - I hate when bleach gets on clothes. Any chance you can do a stencil bleach design on it to rescue it?

Got really upset tummy tonight. Made worse by baby kicking where it hurts already :(

Oh no cool hope you feel better, babies can be so inconvenient sometimes!!

ella this heat is god awful, dh who hates the heat keeps saying its been cooler today but dear god it is awful! Thank god I was off work today, really feeling for you lot today!

tea I spent yesterday after work with my top off in the flat the window was open and the blinds closed blowing in the wind, glad to say we live on the 2nd floor other the neighbours would have got an eye full. Dh enjoyed the view!

A pigeon flew into the window today, I think it survived, gave me a shock!

I've been measuring big at my last three midwife appointmnents at my latest, when she measured me and just said fine when my usual midwife flaps on and on about how big I am.

Topsyloulou · 22/07/2014 20:18

White - sorry to hear about your experience with the HV. Echo what everyone else has said and you definitely need to give your mw some feedback on her. Will she be your HV when the baby arrives?

Great news on the move Coolcat. Looking forward to getting our nursery sorted once all our guests leave on Sunday. DP thinks he is going to be spending the afternoon hungover on the sofa but in reality he will be taking down a double bed & putting up the cotbed so I can sort everything out on Monday when he's back at work.

Just had a major meltdown on DP & all triggered by spilling some baked beans! Work is an absolute nightmare at the minute & feeling really quite stressed but desperately trying not to be for the baby's sake. Also really tired & completely lost my appetite which is unheard of for me. DP is trying to get everything ready for our guests on Saturday & I'm feeling useless. I then managed to burn one side of his pizza & knock my baked beans over in the microwave & that set me off crying, DP comes rushing in in a panic wondering what on earth is happening. Feel much better for a little cry but not sure how I'm going to make it through the next month at work.

ilovemonstersInc · 22/07/2014 20:38

Thank you blossom. I just want to get on with giving birth and getting into a routine! I can't do with all this pain and uncertainty about when hes coming..
just had to go to bed for a while to try and stop the pains.

I came on to say thank you to all of you, your a lovely bunch and have made me feel a whole lot better today.

tea & cookie you made me laugh with those images trying to cool off Grin

Ella Ive done this and er...I used a black permanent marker...works though lol. might need a top up after first wash though. Ive also come to the conclusion that people don't really get to see heavily pg women about to pop and so don't really know what one looks like. I think they struggle to imagine us getting bigger than we already are.

Ah topsy, pg melt down. Just had one myself- came to bed, settled down to listen to hypno cd and my next door neighbour has just started mowing his lawn...with his five yr old dd screaming (all she does is scream, I really kid you not!) All my windows are open as its so hot so Ive had to close them and I did shout at him from my bed. selfish ba853rd. AIBU to think 9pm to mow to lawn is out of order!? and breathe.....wheres that relaxation cd (or anger management as my ds calls it Grin)

holls2000 · 22/07/2014 21:16

White, that HV needs a slap.

I have measured 2 weeks big since they started measuring bump. They marked it on 90th centile last Friday. I was not best pleased. It sounds painful.

Have been doing summer school, back starts hurting at about lunchtime so sit there uselessly with ice pack on back and feel guilty at being fat, melting pregnant woman. The kids are so lovely and I feel so useless.

Massive breakdown on OH last night, not sure what brought it on. Suffice to say I called him every name under the sun, and he told me I was being pathetic and to go to bed...which really helped. However, made a fruit cake (as you do when hot and bothered) for when we - hopefully -have visitors once the baby arrives, and by the time I had done the mixing I had got th giggles at my ridiculousness. Apologised and all ok.

Am not enjoying heat. Got home this pm and stripped off to underwear - sight greeted OH as he returned, can't say he is one of these men who find pregnant women sexy and therefore he looked faintly horrified....

bugoven · 22/07/2014 21:43

We are all doing so so well to be so heavily pregnant in this weather.

I get messages every day from friends and family saying how hot they are and that I must be struggling with the heat. My feet are like trotters and I can barely use my hands they are so swollen but I am so excited about becoming a mum.

Had HV come to my house today and it was so good to hear about what will happen in the first few days and weeks. Also had a useful antenatal class and a whooping cough vaccination. It's been a productive day =)

CoolCat2014 · 22/07/2014 22:28

Ella - like this m.instructables.com/id/T-shirt-Designs-with-Stencils-and-Bleach/

Or you could dye it, get some Dylon - can be found in The Range or old school fabric shops, all you do is throw it in the washer with loads of salt and you're done, just remember to only wash with similar colours afterwards. I used to do that loads when I was a student, always successful and low hassle and a good way to save clothes for only a couple pounds.

Nazly · 22/07/2014 23:18

Just missed 4 days of posts here and spent quite some time catching up; have been reading all the posts but didn't get to write anything past couple of weeks; hope everybody is OK, we are nearly there...

White I absolutely agree, people just aren't used to see pregnant ladies in late 3rd trimester out and about a lot; I get loads of faces and comments on how big I am and how Strange it is that I still have 6 weeks to go and I just ignore them all... Did care before, didn't help, don't care any more at all...

I eventually ordered the travel system; Uppababy vista in the end with maxi cosi pebble and family fix isofix all for £800; glad it is all done now

I have been to mw yesterday who was not very helpful; this was my last midwife appointment in the hospital and I wanted to discuss my birth plan; she just said: "what do you want to discuss?? Your midwife will go through it with you when you arrive to hospital to give birth!!!!! "

I thought the whole point of birth plan was not to have to go through your preference when in pain?? Then I wanted to ask a couple of questions about pain reliefs and she just said: haven't you been to antenatal classes yet?? They will tell, you about these there!
I wanted to talk about giving birth in birth centre and she said: isn't it your first? You are going to need pain relief, why not going directly to consultant led instead of mwl unit?? Aaaghh

By then I gave up asking more questions despite wanting to know if having swollen feet (suddenly) is normal!! I have read some contradictory info online, is it normal ladies? I can hardly wear any of my shoes any more, just bought a pair of sandals today- my work does not require standing on feet... So not sure if if is all part of pregnancy or not...

Also the platelets count in my blood is going down, that's apparently what makes your blood clot and if it continues to go down it will mean risk of bleeding is high... I am referred to a consultant for the first time during this pregnancy... Anybody else has this problem?!

Sorry for long post, had a lot to say after so long of not writing...

ilovemonstersInc · 23/07/2014 02:13

Naz could be because of the heat (swelling) my feet are more swollen these days too.

not too sure about the platelets count but at least you've been referred to someone who does.

I would wait to discuss birth plan with the consultant asthey will normally do it with you

BooSurprise · 23/07/2014 07:18

white I just wanted to say that people keep telling me how big I look too, lady in the garage told me the other day, I'd never get to sept and even my tactful neighbour said the same- and that was weeks ago, despite their helpful comments, my last growth scan said baby is on 50th centile and est weight for birth is 7.5lb, even tho I actually look bigger than my last baby who was 8lb 14. Aside from that 2 of my size 8 friends have had 10lb plus babies, one at home, without problems, as did the lady on the mlu I was recovering on, after my last baby, so the hv can just shove her ridiculous opinions where the sun doesn't shine.
Anyone else consultant led, and not bothering with the community midwife anymore? I'm being seen every other week at the hospital as it is, can never get an appt with the m/w, and have no continuinity of care, so I'm just thinking I won't bother for the 34week one? Am I being stupid- I wouldn't normally be like this but I can't see what they are going to add?

ilovemonstersInc · 23/07/2014 07:42

Boo I've only seen cmw for referral to the hosp at start of pregnancy and that was it. They said I was too complicated amd would rather me be seen in hospital.

OP posts:
whiteblossom · 23/07/2014 09:26

Thanks again everyone for the support, your right boo you just cant tell what size the baby is until its born. My DM said that she thinks Ill be early because she "just can't see it" she says it will be august. I actually hope she is right.

Naz have you tried soaking your feet in cold water and see if that helps them reduce- I had the same issue at the weekend and it was the heat but def' mention to mw so she can check you to be on the safe side. oh and MW's oh so helpful arn't they?!!

I braved the scales. Deep breath. Ive gained in total 25lbs, in fact four of those were in the last 18 days! Im just within the (upper) range...so from now on no junk. I just cant face going over two stone. Im in shock to be honest. Blush

Keep cool peeps x
