Oh dear....all this talk of birth plans.......seriously my advice would be to go with the flow on the day as you will just have no idea how fucking painful it is you will feel!

fancyacupoftea · 04/06/2014 09:47

Oops I meant English not Zermatt.

Hope you feel better though Zermatt. At least you're having the day off.

MelMc73 · 04/06/2014 09:47

Ha ha fancy I am the same as you with poo situation! Bloody horrendous eh!

Zermatt · 04/06/2014 10:01

Glad that poo was at least good training Fancy!

Speaking of poo (and birth), one of the first things I pinned to my secret pinterest baby board is "5 top tips to help prevent pooing during labour"

I always remember by friend telling me about when she thought she'd finally given birth after a round of intense pushing, only to ask her husband what it is and to be told "It's a poo, claire*" I think that story has traumatised me.

I agree with Mel I am not going to plan too much or expect too much and just hope for the best, I think there are so many variables that you just can't plan for everything, so good to have an idea of your ideal birth but be open to the fact you got to go with the flow.

Hypnobirthing sounds interesting though, although not as interesting as it would be if it involved Paul McKenna putting you under and convincing you that you are just a chicken laying a big egg. Now that would be cool.

EnglishGirlsReturned · 04/06/2014 10:09

The thought of pooing myself is awful! I know dh would find it hilarious to tell everyone!!

My friend did hypnobirthing and raved about it! She basically sais that people who moan about birth are over reacting and that she found it easy. Lol!! I had to laugh! I think she was just quite lucky!!
My cousin did it too and said as soon as the pain got intense everything she learnt went out the window!!

Knottyknitter · 04/06/2014 10:15

Zematt I always thought hospital, drugs available, closest room to theatre just in case. (Worked in O&G for a while and saw a lot of what goes wrong and how quick you need to act when it does, plus I was a forceps baby and on nicu for a month, which colours my views of this a bit)

Now I've been cleared for the mw unit and I'm loving the idea of being less medicalised if possible. The unit is next door to theatre the other way (so if the shit hits the fan I'm covered) but thinking water, hypnobirthing, maybe not drug free but drug light if possible.

However birth plan will read
Healthy baby; healthy mum by whatever means necessary. IM vit k. Managed 3rd stage. Skin to skin nice as long as both of us ok enough to try. Home ASA safe and practical. No bounty salespeople, photos by my DB instead (so leave us alone with your marketing)

Anything I've missed out?

Zermatt · 04/06/2014 10:19

Knotty what does;

Home ASA safe and practical. No bounty salespeople, photos by my DB instead (so leave us alone with your marketing)

mean?

Do sales people come round the wards door to door selling? Who else takes photos?

EnglishGirlsReturned · 04/06/2014 10:28

and Knotty... whats the Vit K bit??

Knottyknitter · 04/06/2014 10:33

Home as soon as safe...

Yes the company who give out the bounty packs (the bag of junk mail and a tea bag that came with your antenatal notes) have salespeople in loads of postnatal wards. They barge in and hard sell you pictures of your baby (DB is a pretty good hobby photographer so he will be doing our official new baby pics instead) the whole point for them is to get your details for their mailing list wich they market to all and sundry leaving you spammed online and by snail mail. Don't give them your details. I took the first pack under suffrance and have chucked most of it, but not getting the one from boots.

Have a look in Mumsnet campaigns for "bounty mutiny" to see what they can be like.

Knottyknitter · 04/06/2014 10:37

Vitamin k is a vitamin newborns don't have much of, and helps with blood clotting. Very much advised to give supplement after birth, either a one off jab (the one I'd like) or 3 lots of oral drops over a couple of days. Acts to prevent bleeding into the baby's brain, so very worthwhile IMO, and I'd like to get it into the little mite as quick as.

Knottyknitter · 04/06/2014 10:42

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_campaigns/1777511-Campaign-to-end-Bounty-sales-reps-access-to-maternity-wards-please-read-and-share

Explains the problem with Bounty. Forewarned is forearmed.

fancyacupoftea · 04/06/2014 10:49

I remember reading somewhere on mumsnet about a new mother who proudly turned to her husband after and said 'Isn't it good that I did it without pooing myself!' He apparently had to break some bad news to her that she had no idea about...

Bounty can fuck off.

That's a very detailed birth plan knotty! Nice to actually see one even if it does make me feel clueless.

Knottyknitter · 04/06/2014 10:57

And while I'm on it...bounty justify themselves as the only place to get a child benefit form

2 minutes on google and they're all linked to from here: print before you pack your hospital bag?

broodysnoopstie · 04/06/2014 11:08

Blush Blush Blush I just signed up to bounty for freebies as recommended by a friend. Am I am idiot? Hmm

PolytheneGirl · 04/06/2014 11:13

Ditto everything that Linda said. I would have loved a natural birth but think I'll be told on fri that it will be another ELCS. So I'll be lying there giggling and shivering again. It's not all bad!

Yes to vit K too. Anyone having the flu jab and whooping cough vaccine?

OP posts:
Knottyknitter · 04/06/2014 11:17

Yes to both Poly although you've probably guessed I'm fairly pro imms!

Flu jabs won't start until sept/oct though, and whooping cough is at 28/40 ish, so may be able to get both together.

EnglishGirlsReturned · 04/06/2014 11:20

Thanks for the heads up Knotty!! No to bounty!!
And the other info...clueless here!!

PolytheneGirl · 04/06/2014 11:27

That's what I was thinking Knotty. I always have the flu jab anyway but the whole whooping cough thing is a new one on me but it does sound well worth it for baby.

Re- the poo talk, I told oh when we had ds1 if I shit myself he was never ever to mention it until I was ready to talk about it and certainly no laughing about either. We spoke about it last week for the first time in nearly 5 years, he said he never saw any but knew I must have as the mw discretely wiped my bum every now and then, lol, yay to my mw Smile

sazzlehopes · 04/06/2014 12:01

Yes to whopping, no to flu. I'm pro imms in general, but not flu for some reason!

Knitter love your plan - I'm copying and pasting straight to mine!

Broody - no not a a mug at all. You will get a lot of leaflets and free bits and vouchers and what not, it's not all bad. But personally, and I mean personally, the free stuff they give away is not stuff we would normally use so there is no point me signing up. We are a completely eco, reusable nappy, natural product kinda house so pampers, sudacream and johnson and johnson stuff is wasted on me I'm afraid!

And the hypo birth thing can be super helpful just to put you in a good frame of mind. I listened to the cds and found them good, didn't go to specific classes. And even though I aimed for home birth but ended up in hospital with emergency c-sec I still feel really positive about the whole thing, not scared to try again natural this time. There is something empowering about the hypo birth thing and whatever your outcome, it can do no harm to feel good about birth when you get to the end!

broodysnoopstie · 04/06/2014 12:38

thanks sazzle Blush

re hypno birthing obviously I haven't tried it but I have had hypno for fear of spiders passing my driving test (1st time) and general relaxation and de-stress. It's been really helpful for me so I'm totally interested in hypno-birthing and a water birth

PolytheneGirl · 04/06/2014 12:49

I'm considering hypnotherapy for my tickley feet. I couldn't even get my shoes on early, I'm getting worse with age!

OP posts:
lindamagoo · 04/06/2014 13:30

I'm thinking about hypno for my fear of the dark, not something I want to pass on to my kids but it's inevitable if I don't get help

PolytheneGirl · 04/06/2014 13:59

My LO is starting to be afraid of the dark and I think it's my fault as I have no night vision so obviously have issues with the dark. Not a lot I can do about it though Sad
