mummytobe I would say yes probably braxton hicks. I think it's different for everyone but to me it feels like a real tightening and hardening of my bump. Not painful as such but v uncomfortable!

mummytobejuly2014 · 01/06/2014 22:08

think if baby is active then it's all "practice" for the real thing? hoping so, wanting bump to make it to july as I've still 8days of work & to actually put the stuff into the hosp bags. got an nhs breastfeeding class tomorrow night, hoping it's good as its on til 9ish & ive to be up at 5am for work all week

osinachi · 01/06/2014 23:36

Hello could anyone advice me re breast pump ? I bought an advent double comfort electric one in the States but live in England so wondering where I can buy a UK adapter or lead plug. Checked ebay but haven't seen one. Thanks

fifi669 · 02/06/2014 00:20

I am amazingly unobservant but I don't think I had Braxton hicks with DS or this pregnancy....

Incapinka · 02/06/2014 03:01

I'm the same fifi...

NancyinCali · 02/06/2014 07:09

Can't sleep! It's 11.10pm and I'm wide awake. Shouldn't have napped for so long earlier. And now I'm hungry too. Sigh.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 02/06/2014 07:56

Another sleepness night for me too Nancy. Work is going to be fun today...

Plateofcrumbs · 02/06/2014 09:14

I've got movement paranoia following the NCT mum's emergency. Hadn't felt much this morning so have been drink hot caffeinated tea and jammy toast to wake the poor thing up. It has responded with a good wriggle!

Another feature of that story which underlines the dangers of home dopplers: the mum had one and heard the baby's heartbeat when she wasn't feeling much movement and was nearly reassured into not doing anything. Fortunately sixth sense that something wasn't right prevailed.

AuntieMaggie · 02/06/2014 09:55

Terrible nights sleep here :( feel shite today as a result but off to osteopath in a bit to see if she can do anything to make pelvis better...

plate pelvic floor exercises always starts baby off here. I've heard cautionary tales about home dopplers and those pressure pad monitor things... just goes to show whatever invention they come up with nothing is substitute for your own intuition. A friend who is a nurse laughed when I told her the guidelines are now for baby to be in your bedroom for 6 months and in fact to sleep wherever you are in the house for the first six months!

dollydaydream27 · 02/06/2014 10:47

Finally changed my password and have app back . Have been following thread but need to catch up on last few pages so will go back and do this now.
Hope everyone is doing well . 34+1 here and all well at the moment . Am currently taking annual leave prior to mat leave so have officially finished. Hope everyone is getting close to finishing now too. Countdown is on until the babies are here so exciting .

ismarah · 02/06/2014 12:03

Hmm. Hot flushes, feeling faint and palpitations. Something to ring midwife about? BP has been fine (textbook or low) so far and urine samples have all been fine re protein and sugars. I didn't have a GTT though. No headaches, no significant swelling, no rashes, no itching. Confused

Last week of work here before leave kicks in. Have been soooooo busy last few weeks so not posting as much but have been reading when Ive been able.

Sympathies to all those going through tough times and/or feeling unwell/in pain.

I spent the last 2 days projectile vomiting - definately think it is down to stress and tiredness so looking forward to being off work! Smile

Think we have most things for bean now - dh is just wallpapering and painting nursery this week and furniture is being built today/tomorrow so I can start putting little clothes etc away Grin Just a few little bits and pieces still to pick up - my
mum recommended getting lots of calpol/baby disprin/nappy cream etc and making up a baby first aid kit given that we live quite rurally so shops may be closed etc so going to focus on that over the weekend I think.

Ipsumlorem · 02/06/2014 12:32

Ismarah I get slight palpitations usually anyway and these have definately increased now everything is crushed - hot flushes also feature a lot now for me. Midwife said it is just the extra hormones getting us ready for birth but I would just maybe get it checked anyway - better safe than sorry.

ismarah · 02/06/2014 12:43

I phoned the community midwife to ask and she said with 40% more blood volume it was only to be expected and didn't seem concerned at all.

She did suggest going to see my GP to get checked over but it's impossible to get appointments there. I also saw a consultant on Friday and am seeing another one this Friday so I'm not sure I'll add the aggro of the GP too.

I will also admit that palpitations are one of my trigger symptoms because of past medical history - they kind of freak me out. I will be monitoring them more closely now, noting how often they happen etc and I might check my BP too.

ismarah give the mw a ring just to be sure

BlueC2 · 02/06/2014 13:16

Well, dearest Grandma passed away peacefully at 5am this morning. A nurse was with her so she wasn't alone which is good. DM flying back out on Saturday. She was 97 so had done so so well but really better for her now to be at peace.

Just had MW for 34 week check and baby now head down which is great. Blood results in a couple of days to see if Spatone has sorted my iron levels.

Feel a bit all over the place with everything today but to be expected in the circumstances.

Ipsumlorem · 02/06/2014 13:30

Sorry about your grandma blue Sad

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 02/06/2014 14:16

Blue sorry to hear about your grandma.

Am having dizzy breathless day today!

Stupid question : what needs to go in the changing bag?

osinachi · 02/06/2014 15:39

Blue sorry to hear of it grandma's passing away. May she rest in peace.
Has anyone got any tips on using products bought in the US in UK regarding the power lead or cord? I know I can use an adapter but was wondering if I could just get a replacement lead.

KitKatChick · 02/06/2014 16:43

Sorry to hear about your grandma, Blue. Hopefully your mum will cope well.

I'm really struggling to keep up with the thread lately but hoping it will all settle down a bit now that our bathroom is finished. I can't remember who was redoing theirs at the beginning but now I can finally understand what you went through.

I've not been paying that much attention to movements either but I'll definitely start now, Plate.

We've done our first NHS parent-craft class on Saturday. It was quite helpful but didn't get to do a tour of the ward which was a bit disappointing but I guess I wouldn't want anybody walking around when I'm in labour either. We've got one on breastfeeding and postnatal next week and DH seems to be enjoying it too which I didn't expect.

It's our wedding anniversary today but I suspect we'll just stay in and look at the bathroom together. We've pretty much given up on all intimacy a couple of months ago as the amount of effort required just wasn't worth it + DH is definitely worried about hurting me or baby so firmly in the hugging club. But huge respect to anybody still making the effort.

NancyinCali · 02/06/2014 16:58

blue sorry about your grandma (hugs).

My sleep didn't improve. Saw every hour. Luckily DD1 playing well this morning so I can zone out!

For a newborn changing bag I'll have: nappies, wipes, changing mat, nappy bags, change of clothes x2 (will keep one set in car and spare nappies), dummy (if we use one this time), muslins, Aden & anais muslin blanket (for shade, lying on, covering up), hat, water bottle (for me), hand sanitizer.

I think some of that will have to stay in the car/bottom of the pram though as I'll have toddler stuff too!

AuntieMaggie · 02/06/2014 17:11

So sorry about your grandma blue :(

AuntieMaggie · 02/06/2014 17:17

OMFG will someone help me with the hell that is hiring a tens machine??? I just want one that works!

lentilpot · 02/06/2014 17:21

So sorry to hear about your grandma, blue. I hope you are your DM are ok.

@osinachi - the voltage difference between the US/UK might mean you have to buy a voltage converter instead of just a new lead, but on the bit the lead goes into there should be a label saying which voltage inputs it can handle (that sort of thing often has a converter within it)

So sorry blue glad she is at peace and wasn't alone...

No idea other than a us to uk adaptor I'm afraid osinachi

Sorry you didn't sleep nancy I've had a week off and not slept well, today back at work slept right through and woken by alarm! Probably more being in my own bed!

I think they are braxton hicks mummy I'm getting them all the time including right now!!!

That story of your NCT friend has really made it hit home to me too plate if I feel reduced movements will definitely be calling. Also agree with Doppler you hear too many stories of people getting false reassurances from them. I will be leaving them to midwife!

Not long to go, today made lots of to do lists and been working through them at the moment hoping time will fly over next 3 weeks then relaxing and maternity leave can begin!
