hayley sounds good that your DP will be back for July.

icklekid so glad I'm not trying to eat a peanut butter sandwich! Wholegrain mustard is also quite realistic! Grin

I'm wondering if this baby will arrive on DH's birthday. It should have arrived before my July birthday because there is no way I'm letting them leave me until 42 weeks. I'm currently being being asked what I want for my birthday, and in all honesty, it is quite enough that my parents are coming over in the car and bringing shopping, and I would love to have a birthday lie-in arranged by DH!

Right, a morning of hard work for me (paperwork, washing, hospital bag, sorting out stuff), lunch, a bit of cooking and then relax before collecting DS.

AuntieMaggie · 13/06/2014 07:28

"Clearing out" - I've had to go the minute I wake up every morning for the past few weeks and very windy past few days. Mind you baby has been very active which mw said is it letting me know it's ok.

Just about holding it together. Not sure what I should do if I go into labour early - do I tell dp or not? Mws have been very lovely about my concerns about being on my own and told me not to worry because they'll look after me.

Note to those with spd/pelvic issues - getting on and off the hospital bed has aggravated mine again... I put the bed down as far as it would go but I've still managed to hurt myself. Good job I have the osteopath on Monday.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 13/06/2014 08:04

Ickle, am glad you got to do some basic baby care taking at nct. So far ours has been a bit mossy - not as bad as I feared, but still the odd invective to fight intervention ("ignore the midwives if they're worried, labour stopping is natural"!) that everyone in my group seems thankfully too clever to pay attention to. So looking forward to a practical lesson!

Baby is head down and engaged, feel like I have to cross my legs when I walk (month python anyone?) and desperately trying to hold on for elcs in three weeks. Feels like an eternity.

Ickle - Also sincerely hoping this "clear out" that started yesterday doesn't mean anything portentous! Appointment today will hopefully rule that out.

Auntie - know it's a rubbish time but is it worth asking your dh if he wants to be told? Friends we know that have suffered loss just before a baby have found it helpful to have new life as a distraction?

Plateofcrumbs · 13/06/2014 08:23

auntie I guess one benefit to having to spend time in the hospital is that MWs already know you and you already know them - if there is any chance you will be on your own I bet they will really rally round. Difficult to know what do do for the best in terns of telling/not telling DP if things licked off - how easy/hard will he be to contact? Would he try to cut short his stay in France and hurry back? So hard but I think you're coping brilliantly!

Got up (too pee, obviously) in middle of night and bump was crazily lopsided - the baby must have been mid-turn again. Goodness knows what position it has got itself into now - I can normally feel a very solid part somewhere (bum or head?) but everything fairly squishy today. Maybe back-to-back? Confused

Plateofcrumbs · 13/06/2014 08:41

home interestingly one of the things my (very pragmatic) bunch said they got out of the NCT class is feeling more confident about questioning - there was a bit of a 'mossy' bent to it but I think everyone came out of it thinking they had a bit more power to control what happened than they thought they had. Which is helpful I think, it's just if it drifts into 'intervention is always bad' that I get more dubious.

I have clearly been influenced by something over the last few months as I've gone from thinking a home birth would be the most crazy terrifying thing ever to thinking it would be really amazing.

AuntieMaggie · 13/06/2014 09:24

I'll ask DP later what he wants to do - he has a meeting with his mums consultant today so don't really want to worry him on top of that.

I was just thinking if I went into labour naturally then do I tell him so he maybe has a few days of worry on top of what he's going through and possibly tries to rush back when I wouldn't really want him driving in those circumstances? Or would it be better to wait for baby to arrive and tell him? Alternatively if I end up being induced do I tell him or again wait? Just so confusing. I've decided I'm not going to tell him if I end up back in hospital with BP before he's back...

Going out for lunch with friends today - I've still decided I don't want anyone with me towards the end of labour when baby makes its appearance but may want some company in early labour and before the pushing starts so I need to think about who that may be but feels like a big ask of someone especially when they have children of their own.

So much to bloody think about. He said he would come back for my consultant appointment at 38 weeks which is on 24th so if baby holds onto then it may work out okish. Though with the clearing out, jelly like discharge and baby having dropped a bit there is part of me that thinks it may make an early appearance...

I get a bit cross with the 'intervention is bad' stuff. That intervention has saved lives that years ago wouldn't have been saved! There seems to be a thought that they just make up what they want to do. whereas the protocols over what happens if/when are put in place to protect us and are revised constantly based on experience. My day job involves looking at systems (the way things work) and even natural systems have a pattern which these protocols would be based around as well as trying to minimise risk due to human error. Personally I feel safer knowing all these controls are in place! Having said that I'm not against educating yourself or asking questions.

Dd1 off at swimming lesson with dh, having some snuggle time with baba, she is just so small, 5lbs7 yesterday midwife happy with that!

well my labour story, first dose of gel at 10pm Friday night started having period like cramps 15 minutes later they kept coming getting longer and more frequent all night and i powered through telling myself they were cramps until midwife exam in morning she said i was contracting 4 in 10 and moderate so no more gel, sent off for a big walk around hospital grounds. After that and lunch they tailed off, got second dose of gel and the fun began, much stronger, much longer and then got moved into delivery room after a bath and some paracetamol. Once in room got gas and air for a few hours then exam again showed i was 3cm, got sweep at half 9, and diamorphine, dosed off for ten minutes, got up to be sick, waters went and she was born an hour later! Very very quick, and very lucky, no stitches no bruises and no grazing!

To those who are struggling, not long to go, and this horrible bit is completely forgotten when you get that first cuddle, the overwhelming happiness is incredible, rest up take it easy i keep popping in during feeds but not finding the time to post! Good luck!

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 13/06/2014 10:48

I'd forgotten what a pain it is hanging out baby clothes to dry!

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 13/06/2014 10:52

Mrsc that sounds like a lovely story. Do you mind me asking how small they thought your baby was or what other factors that made them induce you early? Enjoy the cuddles! Smile

Mrsc020987 · 13/06/2014 11:09

She was measuring at 4lbs11 for 36&4, they think it was something to do with the growth not being consistent and other issues on top constant proteins in urine and leaking ao consultant said no more waiting better out at 37 weeks! Still cant believe how quickly it all happened!!

Plateofcrumbs · 13/06/2014 15:32

Thanks for sharing your story mrsC sounds very positive, especially for an induction, especially one that happened so quickly!

Ipsumlorem · 13/06/2014 16:51

Lovely birth story mrsc - thanks for sharing! A lot of people I know seem reluctant to share now I'm 36 weeks but I am very much of the opinion that I want to go in to labour with an open mind about what could happen and dont even mind the 'scary' stories as I like to be prepared for those kind of eventualities. Might be strange but I'm a researcher by trade and this often extends to my personal life.

I already packed a hospital bag for myself due to blood pressure worries though Im jealous because it lacks a monkey hat! Wink

Auntie I really feel for you as my bp is continually raised and its a pain to keep going for monitoring but I appreciate how lucky ive been so far regards avoiding overnight stays etc. I really hope things work out well for you and that your poor dh can be there for the birth Sad

Packed baby's bag yesterday and put away all the little clothes ive washed in her wardrobe - look so cute hanging up but was a pain in the ass to hang them all out to dry! Smile

Met a friend for coffee earlier and did a bit of shopping but crippled now! Currently lying in bed with my swollen feet propped up on a cushion to try and get the swelling to go down as my running shoes are now the only pair of shoes that fit ironic as I can barely walk Sad

Does anyone else just feel soooo heavy and achey in the heat? It wasnt like I was tiny to begin with but its dreadful to feel like you are stuck in mud when trying to move!

RebekahMacd · 13/06/2014 17:01

So, um, I'm new here. Hello! Due on 28 July (according to them; 30 July according to me and I was right last time so I'm going with my date), expecting a baby human, as hubby puts it.

Feeling like a flipping whale, grouchy ALL THE TIME.

KitKatChick · 13/06/2014 17:09

Hi Rebekah - looks like we're sharing due dates if you're right :)

icklekid · 13/06/2014 17:12

Waves to rebekah welcome!

So having missed NCT class on breast feeding went to NHS one today and am so glad I did! Was relaxed (NCT one was not having spoken to people who were there) and sensible advice all from health care professionals. Felt I got lots more advice about who I will see when after birth which was really useful. Nice to meet more ladies as well and hopefully catch up/see at baby groups etc. all in all good afternoon. Now just need to decide if I can sneak away from work next wed afternoon to join them at bump and baby... Know I could as got antenatal appointment at 4 anyway... If anyone hasn't signed up for NHS classes (only 2) def worth doing even if your also doing NCT is my advice. Oh and the knitted boob came out Smile

Thanks for sharing birth story mrsc sounds like build up was long but actual labour wasn't too bad!

ismarah · 13/06/2014 17:20

Welcome Rebekah

Someone tell me to put on my big girl pants, quick!

Supposed to go to a thing tonight, hours drive there, stand, mingle, catch up, eat, drive home. Probably doable all in in about 4hrs and then I can be comfortably ensconced back on the sofa / under a cool shower.

But I'm hot and bothered and tired and am finding it quite tempting to stay home, finish what I was doing and having a takeaway. Tell me to over myself, stat.

OP posts:
ismarah · 13/06/2014 17:21

get over myself.

Sigh.

OP posts:
lemonpoppyseed · 13/06/2014 17:22

Congratulations mrsc!

Sllloooowwlly cleaning the house today. Feel like I should do it but have no urge to, if you see what I mean. Don't think think this is 'nesting' yet...

mummytobejuly2014 · 13/06/2014 19:06

just wondering if anyone is acknowledging fathers day even tho little ones arent here yet?
my OH is going out drinking with mates prob early sat afternoon & prob wont appear home til 3 or 4am like he does on christmas do's (he doesnt go out very often so I usually dont mind). just hoping nothing kicks off with baby sat or sun & hoping hes not sick (he lands home really drunk & sometimes vomits in his sleep - I never sleep a wink when he does this, afraid of him choking - also pisses me off getting very little sleep).
anyway hoping everyone is keeping well. we dont have the heatwave that everyone else seems to be getting.
have mw on Monday, is this the point where we begin to get internal examinations?

RebekahMacd · 13/06/2014 19:12

Last time around the MW didn't do any internal exams for me. Maybe it depends on where you live? (Or it could be because I was in and out of hospital with possible pre-term labour which meant loads of internals there...)

Hope your OH isn't too crazy drunk when he gets home!

AuntieMaggie · 13/06/2014 19:39

I had bought dp a fathers day card but he won't be here to get it on Sunday :( looks like he'll stay another week unless anything kicks off here... no change to his mum's condition but the Dr said it's good she hasn't deteriorated. They will reassess next Fri. So prayers/fingers crossed all round.

DP has said to tell him if I go into labour and stick a cork in it!

Thanks for sharing mrsc - everyone I've spoken to irl who have been induced may have taken a while to get going but have been pretty quick once they did.

The only thing stopping me blitzing the house is stupid spd!

icklekid · 13/06/2014 19:46

ismarah we had nandos takeaway mmmmm do it!

mummy I've got dh an I love daddy baby gro but would have got one at some point as we bought an I love mummy one in a set so only fair!

auntie praying for your dh and his mum, hope she continues to stabilise , also the same spd limiting the nesting!

BlueC2 · 13/06/2014 19:50

mummy can you gently suggest that your DH takes it a bit easy with the drinking just in case baby decides to make a move? Re internal exams the first one I had was when I went to triage with contractions/early labour. Must say they're not my favourite part of the whole birth experience!

So I probably did overdo it yesterday as have been exhausted today, not helped by DS being super super awkward all day! He's got a thing about dh's cycle helmet and strung his first proper sentence together today 'I want daddy's hat!' (which I should be proud of but I heard it over and over again so a bit underwhelmed right now), problem was that DH had gone out on his bike, with the hat! The joys of having a 2 yr old! I love him so much but he can so awkward at times :)

Anyone else finding the heat hard work? It was hotter than this just before DS was born but at least I didn't have DS to occupy/run around after then! Will definitely be glad when baby arrives now, obviously there'll be new and different challenges to work through then but it will be nice not to feel like a too hot hippo anymore ;)

AuntieMaggie · 13/06/2014 21:30
