Good luck MrsC! Exciting the first baby will be here so soon!!

JasmineLondon · 06/06/2014 19:31

Woo hoo, go mrsc!

Got our NCT course this weekend and going to try to get lots of useful info about epidural/induction drip etc etc. Really want to do it with no interventions in birthing centre, but realise reality is I can't control what may happen .... So trying to make friends with all the options now!

Mobile epidural sounds interesting, will check next week if they do them at my hosp.

Anyone else's wedding ring digging in to swollen fingers?!

Incapinka · 06/06/2014 19:45

Good luck mrsc!!!

mummytobejuly2014 · 06/06/2014 19:56

re; packing hosp bag - do u reckon we can/will want to use a hair dryer? dont know whether to pack one or not. im assuming ward will prob be warm & hair will dry in no time?
also if we are only staying one night, what is a sensible number of vests & sleepsuits to pack for baby?
packed bare minimum; labour nightie, towel, flipflops, 2 packs of 10 mat pads and a pack of kotex super with wings to prevent leaks of mat pads, 4 pairs of shorts style pants to hold huge mat pads, few breastpads just incase, pjs with dark bottoms for ward afterwards, going home outfit for me, nursing bra, charger for phone, maybe kindle?
washbag containing shower gel, shampoo, deodorant, tootbrush/paste, hand sanitiser, anti bac wet wipes for loo.
small pack of pampers nappies 24pack, pack of water wipes, nappy sacks, vaseline to help make baby first poo come off easier, nail scissors, scratch mitts, 2 hats & then recommended number of vests & sleepsuits.
quaker oats raspberry& pomegranate oat bars incase of hunger also sneaky bar of lindt milk choc, will pop some water/lucazade sport in freezer to lift before goin to hosp
have I missed anything important?

JasmineLondon · 06/06/2014 20:47

mummy like your list!

Read somewhere (maybe even this thread) to take 2 dark coloured flannels for drying downstairs after first shower - stops blood spreading all over towel. Nice, eh?!

water spray for face?

NHS class suggested 3 sleep suits and 3 short sleeve vests for bambino. And cotton wool.

coco808 · 06/06/2014 20:48

good luck MrsC how exciting Smile Flowers

that is quite a list mummy!! Smile so many useful things you have written that I didn't think of!

ismarah how did the appointment go???

icklekid · 06/06/2014 20:56

Thanks mummy got most of that stuff ready-fancy treating myself to mini shampoo/conditioner because love things like that-too cute!

Ohh one thing recommended last night was washable nipple pads being more comfy than disposable? Second timers any thoughts?

ismarah · 06/06/2014 21:02

Good list Mummy!

After a 2hr wait (!) I was seen by a completely different consultant who after realising I knew what I wanted and what was involved - finally agreed. Date has been scheduled as 30 June!

Feel weirdly conflicted. 1. Happy to have it resolved. 2. Huge massive decision of which any consequences for me and bean rest squarely on my shoulders. 3. Surgery. 4. I hate waiting for things outside my control and as DH and I both work from home being able to schedule things is actually no small thing. 5. General angst und sturm.

ickle I remember zing saying as long as they've got an indent for nipple any will do...

mummy how funny have just done my bags apart from a few bits! List is quite similar except flannels like jasmine said (different colour so one for face if its hot and one for drying down below) sports water bottle incase you have stitches to lessen wee pain, paracetamol, nipple cream, socks (some women said feet get really cold) another nightie incase need catheter, kindle, phone charger, pad and pen, face cream. For baby card, blanket, cotton wool pads and muslins.

Not sure about your nail scissors...

I've yet to decide what food but will take an array of snacks to last at least the average of 12 hours to get to pushing stage including sweets to suck (another recommendation on here) and fruit.

I've packed a spare bag to stick in the car with extra nappies, pjs, maternity pads, baby clothes and blanket, etc so if in for longer then DP can just grab it.

It was also suggested taking own pillow which I may stick in the car too just incase along with dressing gown.

Not taking hairdryer but may stick one in the spare bag thinking about it...

Oh and ear plugs and ear phones!

AuntieMaggie · 06/06/2014 21:41

And any meds you're taking and glasses/contact lenses!

Have also seen suggested that partners take a change of top and some bits...

ismarah how exciting :)

elliejjtiny · 06/06/2014 22:27

Good luck mrsc.

mummy your list looks really good. I think I've packed way too much.

ismarah glad you have got your ELCS sorted.

I've been in hospital since Tuesday night when my waters broke. Came home this afternoon to wait until I go into labour. No contractions yet though so think it will be a while. Every dr had a different idea of what would be best and then this morning my consultant swept in, told off the registrars and said that if I saw any other dr who disagreed with him not to worry because he would deal with it. Got to go back to the antenatal ward twice a week to be monitored. coco I might see you there!

icklekid · 06/06/2014 22:52

Ohh ellie sounds like not long for you either! When are you due? Hope all goes well...

oh just remembered something I meant to ask- a while ago someone said don't forget vitamins in hospital bag. Are there post natal supplements we are meant to take or breastfeeding ones? Feel veru ignorant!!!

AuntieMaggie · 06/06/2014 23:02

ellie sounds stressful - hope you manage to get some rest and everything goes ok. You're 36 weeks tomorrow aren't you so only a week early if anything happens soon.

ismarah · 06/06/2014 23:16

Ickle if you're planning on breastfeeding, babies are basically vitamin D leeches, plus if you're low on iron you might struggle after birth and lochia.

This is not something I've researched particularly but am sure I should..not sure what, if any other vitamins you might need.

Thinking of and praying for you ismara and MrsC hope it all goes wonderfully.

mummytobejuly2014 · 06/06/2014 23:58

good idea abt the dark flannel. must remember to buy lansinoh cream too. socks & paracetamol id forgotten about.
was hoping to avoid dressing gown by just wearing pj bottoms if need be. leaving blanket in car with car seat. also leaving some 0-3 size stuff in car. my baby stuff to pack is up to 9/10lb so should hopefully not need the 0-3 however baby is supposedly measuring 6lb already. a 3rd bag with some spare pjs/underwear/pads etc if needed will be left in car. muslins currently drying with baby clothes so will pack a couple when dry.
was thinking abt packing OH a button up shirt so he can have some skin to skin while im getting washed?
I read that urine is measured after labour so squirty water bottle might not be allowed

BlueC2 · 07/06/2014 00:24

mrsc thinking of you. Hope all going well and progressing quickly and not too drawn out

Ellie I thought once your waters had gone they started a clock ticking and want you in labour no more than 48 hours after to avoid infection? Glad you've been able to head home though hope it all kicks off soon for you so you don't have to wait too long

WOW it's all starting to happen - eek!!

ismarah glad you got an understanding consultant finally!

ickle and auntie I found the shape of the lansinoh disposable breast pads the best last time, though also used a lot of cheap Boots ones. I tried the washable ones but found them a bit bulky and actually less comfortable

So DH redeemed himself tonight by buying Ben+Jerry's cookie dough ice cream :). I took DS for his last swimming lesson this morning-felt quite emotional about it as I love taking him but not sure if/when I'll manage it again.

So I was sick this morning and am 35 weeks tomorrow. Heartburn pretty grim now during day as well as night and I would dearly love a decent night of sleep :( fed up of switching between my bed and the sofa trying to get comfortable! Come on baby! I really don't mind if you make an early appearance!

icklekid · 07/06/2014 04:18

ismarah thank you that's really useful will read up/ask round a bit more.

blue well done to your dh for cookie dough ice cream I was sent food shopping whilst dh cut grass- came back with ice cream, strawberries and raspberries mmmmm. Useful to know about washable being bulky, I have some disposable so will start with them and see how it goes!

mummy you are so organised! I would have thought if dh- wanted skin to skin he would just take top off considering what state I wilk be in but worth asking so he's thought about it I guess.

Arhh 4am Sad its the weekend I should be resting and sleeping!!! So close to 36 weeks now Smile why oh why didn't I decide to finish work next week! Will wait and see when baby comes to know if right decision or not! Need at least a weeks rest but really didn't want to have a month maternity leave before baby here. ..parents have all been looking at me with funny looks and asking if I'm going to pop! You would think as they have all been through it would be slighty more sensitive! Then again I am huge!!!
