Fingers crossed for you lawyer. Will be thinking about you this week. Keep us posted.

How is it only Monday? I feel like I've done a week's work already! Was in a meeting about things coming up next year and all I could think was 'Hopefully this won't be my problem!'

Had a scan on Sat - it was actually to look at my ovaries and had been booked for ages before I found out I was pregnant, but they said to go along anyway. I got a little peek at our blob! It had a heartbeat and even though they couldn't measure it properly the lady said it looked healthy for 7 weeks. Exciting!

Trying to decide whether to risk getting my hair highlighted in a few weeks (it needs it!). All the sources (nhs etc) say it's fine but I don't want to risk more anxiety ... What do you reckon?

Memphisbelly · 16/06/2014 18:23

Msfrazzles it is totally fine, the risks are only from full head where the peroxide or smothered on scalp but foils or cap are totally fine.

GeekyHybrid · 16/06/2014 18:31

Thinking of you lawyer, I hope you're getting lots of support in RL as well as MN. Thanks

donkir · 16/06/2014 18:51

Thanks Mrshjb this is shying asking as from other blogs I've read people have had similar experiences. They can put a stitch in to prevent early labour but not sure what else.

LittleMissSunshine33 · 16/06/2014 19:34

Welcome newbies!

Sorry Lawyer fingers well and truly crossed for you!

Thanks for the sickness info Wink I am 5 +2 and have had mini waves mainly when I'm in the car, fingers crossed if I do it will be short! Had sickness I read 80% of women will get it! All for the good of our little beans! Smile

VegasCupcpake6 · 16/06/2014 19:35

Hi everyone

Has anyone had their first midwifes appt yet? Is the first one what's known as the "booking" appointment? Or will I need to book that one at this first appointment?!
Our first appointment is 1st July. Will she then book us in for our scan? I don't know how I'm going to wait until 12 weeks!!! I can hardly sleep with excitement/nervousness!

VegasCupcpake6 · 16/06/2014 19:36

Oh and lawyer sending hugs and fingers tightly crossed for you Thanks

MrsCK · 16/06/2014 19:51

mimosa I couldn't find your post...have you been given medicine for nausea? I've had really bad nausea and vomiting and been put on some tablets...fx they seem to be working!

mrshjb · 16/06/2014 19:53

Lawyer fingers crossed everything is ok for you.

donkir yeah from her research you can have a stitch when you're pregnant! but it does come with a risk of miscarriage or you can have a stitch before you conceive, but that means you will definitely have to have a caesarean. I'm not sure how you become eligible for either. I think if you've had one premature baby maybe you would be, but possibly not if they didn't know that would definitely happen? Definitely best to speak to the midwife.

Vegas I had mine today, well the first half of it! It's the booking in appointment and basically you get your maternity book and fill out some forms. They take some blood and some wee and mine booked the scan the and then, but it also seems to be very common to have to wait for a letter for the scan as well!

thingsarelookingup · 16/06/2014 20:24

Thanks for the welcome. This thread is starting to get busier now which is lovely. Most people who will be joining us probably know they're pregnant now. A March thread will be popping up soon!

I'm only 4+4 but I'm ridiculously proud of myself for every day that I don't tell anyone. Especially when I called my parents at the weekend (they live in Oz so at least I don't have to see them and not tell them). I don't really have a thing about keeping it to myself and I'm totally rubbish with secrets but DH would prefer no one knew until 12 weeks. I'm just taking things one day at a time though.

Really sorry for all the people feeling rubbish. It must be so hard trying to work and get on with things like normal when you feel like that.

JennyBlueWren · 16/06/2014 21:12

I tested +ve on Saturday and think I'm due mid Feb although my dates are a bit confused due to irregular cycles.

Memphisbelly · 16/06/2014 21:36

vegas your first app is the booking in. mine was 45 mins long.

JacktheLab · 16/06/2014 22:21

lawyer fingers crossed Thanks

I've had a no symptom day, but yesterday two people asked me how far gone I was, I'm rather overweight anyway from my last pregnancy which I never shifted and I just look like I'm in my second trimester alreadyConfused

jenmcspen · 17/06/2014 08:23

I have already had 3 scans as they were worried baby was ectopic. All seems to be ok, but can't wait for the next scan now I am less stressed! We think EDD is 3rd Feb, and I am 6+5, but my maths skills are horrendous so I'm sure the midwife will correct us! hehe!
Still feeling terribly sick, has anyone tried anti sickness travel bands?
Hope all ur scans and appointments go okay, and that we all start to feel less nauseous soon! Smile

blankfornames · 17/06/2014 08:32

Lawyer, I hope everything is ok.

Can I ask, when do I go for the booking appointment? I'm 4.5 days today but haven't been to a doctor yet to conform it. Also, when is the earliest that I can go for a scan. I mc at 6 weeks last time and I just want to be reassured that everything is going to plan this time.
Congrats to the newly bfps! Grin

jdr1234 · 17/06/2014 10:39

Blankfornames- I had a scan at 6+1 but only as I thought I was 7+1. We saw the sac and the fetal pole but was too early to detect a heartbeat unless they did an internal so would recommend waiting till you are 8 weeks as even if your dates are out you should see heartbeat and a good size bean.

blankfornames · 17/06/2014 10:49

jdr1234 thanks for that. I'll hold off for another little while.. such a wait!!

jdr1234 · 17/06/2014 12:26

I know seems like time is going so slowly but I think if you have a scan too early it can just cause more anxiety..

LuckyAugust · 17/06/2014 15:14

Hi everyone, can I join please? Currently 5+1 with dc3. I have 2 ds's and sadly lost our dd earlier this year when I was 15 weeks. I am SO happy to be pregnant again but bloody terrified!!! Hoping this works out differently. Anyway, I'm 35 and by my dates due 17th February. Having chromosome testing at 10 weeks so dh and I not telling anyone until we hopefully get the ok (well I've secretly told my mam and best friend Blush).

Memphisbelly · 17/06/2014 16:39

Blankfornames I had my booking in appointment last week, I went docs at 6 weeks, mw wiik after and as I had health problems a scan yesterday, just waiting for date for 12 week scan to come through now.

I have been so sick feeling today, do you think the docs can give mecsomething eventhough I am not actually being sick? I bought trsvel sickness bands and they really have eased it, until I bought them at lunch I was wretching at everything, not wretched since but think feeling so rough all morning has drained me.

i am now in bed, dh is being pretty amazing, he left for work at 4.30am just got home, put shopping away, prepped tea and has taken dog out, thrn is fetch ds from nursery. I just feel guilty.

ProudlymadeinSA · 17/06/2014 17:19

Memphis - it's definitely worth asking. I am overseas, so it may be different in UK, but I've have been prescribed some drugs for constant nausea. Been sick a few times only. Glad scan went well.

ProudlymadeinSA · 17/06/2014 17:21

PS someone asked about sea bands. I tried them and they did bugger all for me. Sorry.

Memphisbelly · 17/06/2014 18:05

thank you proudly I will go walk in center tomorrow and ask for something.

Mimosa1 · 17/06/2014 18:17

Oh lawyer, I'm so sorry to hear it. I hope you are being very kind to yourself...

'MrsCK, I've been put on metachlopromide (sp?) hydrochloride. It's helping a bit but still managed to be sick at work today shortly after having taken a tablet. Am desperate for some time off to rest as being sick several times a night, but don't want to tell work yet.

Hugs all and welcome to the newbies,
Xxx Mimosa

GeekyHybrid · 17/06/2014 18:37

Memphis - the locum said he wouldn't give me anything unless I was actually being sick, however, just feeling sick every waking hour is fairly exhausting so maybe yours will be more generous, I may go back and see another doc if it goes on much longer.
jen - I've been wearing the sickness bands, I think they help a bit as does eating small amounts often and staying hydrated. Combination of these has kept me at work (just) though I still feel like I wanna curl up on the sofa and hide all day!
Loads of you lucky people having scans, I've been told "they'll be in touch" and then a non-committal grunt about when that would be other than confirming that the first scan would be at 12 weeks. Even though I've got symptoms enough it would be reassuring to know what's happening in there!
