Done!

Treaclepie19 · 25/05/2014 22:57

Poly, my sister is a photographer :p when I get pregnant again she is definitely going to do maternity photos whether I like it or not

fancyacupoftea · 26/05/2014 00:07

Names are hard for us - we're both teachers so have inevitably taught a child who is a shit by every name. The boys name that's top of my list I've realised is the name of DH's gran's cat. Calling a child a cat's name is a bit cruel eh? So I expect I have to cross 'Fluffy' from my names list.

PolytheneGirl · 26/05/2014 00:29

Haha fancy. My SIL actually gave her daughter the same name as our cat. I've always found it very odd but obviously I do like the name. We have the same problem as I've worked in early years and DH is a copper so they're all associated with little sods or thugs!

Welcome broody and newsboots.

fancy I have the same problem being a teacher. When we were picking out names last time DH wanted a girls name from a girl in a my tutor group who was causing me lots of stress so I said no and still would now

We also have to balance English and Dutch. Since we live in NL I don't want to saddle dc with a name they're going to have to correct for the rest of their life if Dutchies can't pronounce it, and likewise my family need to be able to pronounce it, or the English pronunciation should be very close. I pronounce DS's name with an English vowel sound and DH with a Dutch -fairly similar.

DH wanted to call DS after his grandad (not a nice Dutch name that is actually a girls name in english) or after his dad (who dh is also named after....ds-calling-the-third? I don't think so!). Plus dh is really funny about calling dc the same name as anyone we know which rules out his cousins children who we see once every few years! I would never choose names the same as DNs but everything else is game! Hoping we have a girl as there are only a few in DH's family so means more choice!

I think that I should have final say on the name since I'm the one doing the hard work!

RetroHippy · 26/05/2014 08:02

We've already got a boys name picked out; after the two maternal grandparents. The only decision on that one is whether to spell the first name the traditional Polish way, or the English way.

Girls; I love Pippa and Robyn. Also teacher issues, but I have taught a Florence who I imagine to be exactly like any daughter of DH (she is lovely), so I like that one! Floss for short. Unfortunately lots of the girls names we like start with the same name as our surname and I'm not keen on alliteration!

RetroHippy · 26/05/2014 08:05

We told BIL and SIL last night. They're convinced it is either a girl or twins, so we might get to use both!

(There are no twins anywhere in either family, but they thought it would be hilarious!)

fancyacupoftea · 26/05/2014 08:23

Those are lovely names Retro! Florence in particular is gorgeous.
I forgot to say welcome to Broodie and Newboots. Happy to have you here!!
I successfully managed to drink non-alcoholic beer last night (it was Cobra, I recommend! Not as strong as Bavaria in flavour) but had to hide it upstairs so nobody would see. Decided against telling people in the end.
Midwife tomorrow. Have to take some wee with me but wasn't given a sample pot. Erm... Ideas?

MelMc73 · 26/05/2014 08:25

Lol at Fluffy! Murren is pronounced just as it is spelled Poly. I met a young girl at an exercise class called Murren and thought it quite nice and uncommon!
Feeling lousy today. Nauseous and have a cold
Took ds to breakfast club at school and back in bed now. Supposed to be working :O

RetroHippy · 26/05/2014 08:28

Thank you fancy Blush

I had a very small glass of fizz last night when a bottle was opened in celebration. DH was disapproving but when I went to the loo I heard SIL telling him off!

Does it have to be fmu? If not I've given a sample in the loos at the docs before. I'm sure you can do it there. Alternatively, take it in a well-rinsed jam jar!

fancyacupoftea · 26/05/2014 08:33

Yeah I might just go with a full bladder and she can decide where I wee! Didn't get given forms or anything either, hope that wasn't an error. Anyone else just had/got coming up mw app?

RetroHippy · 26/05/2014 08:46

I'm going to the GP tomorrow. Not expecting anything particularly exciting, but wanted to make sure in on somebody's radar as we'll be changing docs next week.

I also kind of want to let her know as she referred me for blood tests for my irregular periods and assured me she'd be doing my early pregnancy check soon Grin

DH is coming too, which I'm a little embarrassed about, but it's lovely that he's getting involved.

MrsGingerbread · 26/05/2014 08:46

Hello!

Just popping in to see how you are all doing and make sure my seat is still here for me to come back to.

Loving the names :) If I have girl I have always wanted to call her Isabel. Unfortunately there are so many of them now. :(

lindamagoo · 26/05/2014 09:02

Well I am regretting watching Breaking Dawn part 1 before going to bed last night! The nightmares I had have traumatised me, lol.

lindamagoo · 26/05/2014 09:03

MrsG I love Isabel, proper girly name. How are you keeping?

EnglishGirlsReturned · 26/05/2014 09:13

I love all this name talk. As I have 6 pg friends I'm hoping none of them nick any of the names I love.
I have a huge girls list and a fairly short boys list.
Love Zac (but friends jst called their ds it), Leo, Theo and Jude for boys.
And Everly, Thea and Tallulah for girls. But the list goes on!!

Also really like Willow for a girl but my friends male cat is called it. Is that weird if I used it??

fancyacupoftea · 26/05/2014 09:26

Mine was the same Retro - insisted on coming into the doctors with me and now says he has to go to every mw app from now on. It is really sweet - I think he wants to do as much as he can to feel connected I suppose!

Zermatt · 26/05/2014 09:54

Love all your name choices, especially Florence (would call her Florrie for short), Theo and Leo, as Everly is beautiful, never heard of that before.

How do you all feel about choosing names that are in the current top 10? Would you prefer to go for something less used or doesn't it bother you either way?

We have to find a name that works well in Japanese and English, I have a few I like. I like the idea of going for a Japanese name but that can be shortened to an English sounding nick name, but am finding it much easier to pick girls names than boys names (although I am convinced we're having a wee boy).

I had my first appointment with my obstetrician today, he will hopefully be the one to deliver our baby, he had an ultrasound in his office so I was able to see the baby (or little blobby as I've named it, seems more apt) and more importantly it's tiny heart beat. Wasn't expecting to get to see it so that was a lovely surprise. He moved my due date to 26 Dec, so maybe Rudolph would be a better name afterall :) or Jeebus

RetroHippy · 26/05/2014 09:59

I'd rather that than a husband who wasn't interested. I thought he'd be a bit distant until baby actually arrived but he's really excited. He's going to be an amazing dad :) getting soppy now but I've fallen even more in love could be the hormones

RetroHippy · 26/05/2014 10:00
