hi folks - thought we should have a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Spannertime · 17/05/2014 09:05

It's over cast still here. Hoping it picks up soon.

I've just had my anti depressants upped. Don't suppose anyone has any experience or advice on how long it might be before I feel the benefit of the increased dose do they?

pinkgirlythoughts · 17/05/2014 09:14

aww moggle that sounds lovely! Just what the doctor ordered!

I'm going to have to dig out my maternity clothes this weekend- have been holding my work trousers together with hair bobbles the last couple of weeks, but even that's getting too tight now! Problem is, I was mostly pregnant over winter last time, so I don't know how much of it will even be suitable this pregnancy.

alita7 · 17/05/2014 10:11

Yay onion what good news :) are you keeping the sex a secret?

I think if you're going to have a child free wedding you need to make it clear when giving out the invites, I think they usually do it so they can invite more people, but not telling you until a week or two in advance is so ignorant, it means you've planned to come and now even if you wanted to go without your kids you may not be able to find a baby sitter!

I'm stocking up on maxi dresses for the summer, so I don't have to shave my legs all the time :p I don't know what I'm going to wear on placement though! I'll roast!

WheresMrMonkey · 17/05/2014 10:59

Massive congrats weeonion! Such a relief for you!
Just popped into H&M yesterday and got some fab maternity denim cut off shorts, think that will be me sorted for the hot days! The tops were a little dodgy but think just getting normal ones in a size or 2 up will do for a while. Then hopefully be able to use the long sleeve maternity tops/dresses I have from Dd (she was born in March so not much use for the summer!)

RandomInternetStranger · 17/05/2014 11:18

I raided Primani and stocked up on floaty summer dresses, the kinds with the stretchy elasticated ruffly book bit then the loose floaty skirt bit in a size or two up so should last a while and got a few short ones and a couple of maxis so hopefully that will see me through the summer. The baggy stretchy jeans I got which I thought would last are already open at the buttons. I must have shrunk them because they seem shorter too. I'm currently in cropped leggings and floaty tunics.

I don't get child free weddings and I wouldn't be going to any where my kids are excluded. At my wedding we had a kiddie room with an entertainer and kiddie cake and you hardly saw them all afternoon but they had a great time! Best of both worlds.

I'm 16 weeks today. Feels like a milestone for some reason, feels more real, I'm almost half way already, it's a bit weird! Booked a private scan next weekend so DD can see and we can find out the sex, can't wait!! Lovely you know already weeonion!

Had a little glimpse of the future last night & it wasn't pretty. Cousin had her baby nearly 2 weeks ago, aunt driving her mad trying to enforce the old ways of doing things, I backed cousin up saying this was the advice now and she's doing it right, aunt and mother both equally offended at both of us for somehow calling them shit mothers who did it all wrong. Hmm Mum said she thought I was more chilled out this time and what a disappointment that I'm not, I said I am chilled because I've done it before & know what I'm doing but the rules still stand and woe betide her if she breaks them this time & that her & aunt need to back off cousin who is struggling a bit and doing it right. hmmm.

Got some house chores to do today and the weather is a bit dull, not like the blue skies we've had the last couple of days so that's good for chores. Hopefully it'll be sunny tomorrow when I'm finished so I can sit outside & enjoy it! Smile

Have a good weekend everyone! Smile

blamber · 17/05/2014 14:29

When did everyone start needing maternity clothes with their first?

I'm 13 weeks now and my clothes fit fine. Thinking I'll get a waist extender (mostly got trousers with hooks) and a band or something to cover it all up. But when would I need to get proper maternity clothes?

PosyFossilsShoes · 17/05/2014 14:55

Hello all! weeonion that's brilliant :)

Another evening of excitement yesterday with some sudden, intense pain exactly where the appendix is - and since the hospital vaguely said they were concerned about that, I was really worried that it was. Anyway, didn't go to hospital in the end as paracetamol seemed to calm it a bit, and if it can be calmed that way it's definitely not appendicitis, and I'm going to the doc on Monday to see if we can work out what it might be. Googling "appendix pain pregnancy" brings up a list of potential things from a UTI to an ovarian cyst.

Having a boring day today sorting through clothes and chucking out anything I haven't worn in six months or more. Where did all this tatty shit piles of clothes come from?!

Is anyone else just not hungry? It's a major effort to eat at the moment which is really not like me!

alita7 · 17/05/2014 14:58

This is my first and I'm 15 +2. I bought maternity jeans at 5 weeks as I was bloating so much. My new look ones fit but just rode down a bit when bending down at first, the primark ones still do not fit. I got them because my old jeans were on the tighter side anyway, and I didn't like things being tight around my belly, the hair band thing worked for a bit but I thought I'd need mat jeans at some point so I got them anyway.

Now the new look ones fit great and I've been stagger buying some maternity tops that suit both a mini bump and a big one and I've been getting tops in the next size up, and the size about that, so sometimes I wear a normal top, sometimes I wear one of those.

alita7 · 17/05/2014 14:59

Posy is there a chance it's a trapped nerve or something silly like that?

nogeybose · 17/05/2014 15:18

Hey barmybunting, do you mean you're starting maternity leave at 24 weeks? Hope all's ok.

posyfossilshoes I wish! I'm the opposite. Constantly hungry and stuffing my face all the time, hoping the raging hunger and hunger rage will calm down soon.

barmybunting · 17/05/2014 15:31

Today was a failed trip to attempt to find maternity clothes, it was just too hot and the closest proper shops are an hour away so I just came home.

But what is it with unisex baby clothes, why are they all brown or cream? We aren't finding out the sex but I don't want to dress the baby in brown on brown! I had hoped to find some yellow or green stuff but it's all really boy or girl orientated. Any suggestions for where else to look with better options?

Nogey, sorry, my post was prob confusing :). Thanks for asking, all is fine. I am a teacher, so the school summer holidays start for me when I will be 24 weeks. I will not be going back to school much after the summer, the head has asked me to do a project for a few weeks but it will involve working from home which he had agreed to so I am over the moon! I will finish that in late sept and am starting mat leave then. It is quite early, but I have a 75 min drive each way which to be honest, I just can't be bothered with anymore, hence finishing early! I won't be returning to work after mat leave as we are moving in Jan so I am just taking stat mat pay and taking next year off to spend with the baby and will look at going back to teaching in 2016 I think.

Miskate · 17/05/2014 16:01

I went to Primark today, they've got loads of stretchy maxi dresses in which I'm loving. I'm quite petite normally so wearing tunic tops/floaty dresses just makes me look like a telly tubby. The tightness of the maxi dress makes me look super pregnant, as opposed to just a weird lump person.

The Primark maternity jeans are weird though, the sizes come up really small. I'll have to give new look a try?

Miskate · 17/05/2014 16:01

Also, I am currently wearing spanx. Not sure about this as a fun plan for a bbq

RandomInternetStranger · 17/05/2014 16:24

I tend to dress more feminine when pg. Usually I am always in quite tomboyish clothes unless it's a night out - jeans, trainers, tshirts & hoodie, short hair - but at 6' tall when fat and pg I just turn into a wall, I look like Miranda! And not in a good way! So I go overboard trying to look more feminine & grow my hair longer (jaw length now - yay!) just to try and counteract the sheer towerness of me!! So this summer it's floaty dresses all the way! As long as my skin on my chest & shoulders clears up soon!!! Otherwise it's polonecks and ponchos. Sad

alita7 · 17/05/2014 16:28

Barmy I have tried to buy baby stuff but can barely find anything gender neutral that's not plain boring... hurry up 20 week scan!!!!!

miskate, have you tried different Primark jeans? I got some in a size 10 and they're big, especially on the legs!

Mathssssteacher123 · 17/05/2014 16:32

Posy-hope you get some answers as to why you are in pain. When I had appendicitis at 9 weeks pregnant I was so hot and the pain was unbearable and got really bad really quick. So hopefully it's not that! It's almost worst though when you don't know what it is :(
My two year old is being so naughty! Definitely recovering from pneumonia now and making up for lost time and making me want to pull my hair out I'm so agitated I'm struggling to be as patient as I usually am! Hope everyone is enjoying the sun

RandomInternetStranger · 17/05/2014 16:40

Posy I find I get bad stabbing pains kind if where my ovaries/appendix is but I'm pretty sure it's just stretching ligaments. I've had cysts since I was 14 including a 14cm one once and when bad they've had me doubled up on the floor. This isn't that bad, it's been bad enough to stop me and make me gasp and people to ask if I'm ok, but not so bad I've been doubled up or thought about seeking help. I think if it was that bad I'd get it checked. Hey you may get another scan out of it! Grin

I'm leaving baby clothes till I know what it is and also everyone buys you clothes as gifts on your first so I wouldn't worry too much. I'm just going to get a really good snow suit, a really really good footmuff and an eBay bundle, that'll do me. Smile

weeonion · 17/05/2014 17:29

Hey all. Thanks for ur kind messages!

Posy - hope you get some answers soon and pain isn't too bad.
Spanner - yr antids might take a couple of weeks to really kick in and start working. You might not even really notice at first but become gradually aware. Hope you ate doing ok.

We wont be spilling the beans on this brand sex!! That'll just be for dp and i. I cant help smiling today everytime i think of her / him!
Homebirth mw now coming in morning at 8.30am so bought some rai,bow striped bibs and socks today to let DD know she is to be a big sis. V excited!!

Loving the mat wear chat - i now cant wait for a big bump, big boobs... and to show it off.....

hello all. took ages to find new thread and to catch up! my week in Disneyland with dd and dh was fantastic.. so glad i got a mobility scooter .... didn't want to take it back! im really starting to show now 15 week +6 now. starting to feel abit more... human?? might just be the excitment of the holiday. x

Tigsy · 17/05/2014 18:41

I'm 15 + 2 with my first and my clothes definitely don't fit fine!! I'm sure it's largely to do with the amount I've eaten and bloating too though.

I was worried about finding gender neutral clothes that we liked but since I've started shopping I've found loads, and had to stop myself buying anymore. How many items of clothing do you think you need to cover the first few days? We 're staying team yellow so can only buy gender neutral in advance!

Petal26 · 17/05/2014 19:17

Ruched maternity top and stretchy maxi skirt today, kept me cool in the hot weather, going to try and stick to maxi skirts for school with a top, hopefully that'll be smart enough while it's hot!

Congrats weeonion

Baby show at the NEC today, went a bit mad but think I made a dent in the list if things we needed.
Got a buggy board, new colour pack for my Oyster pushchair ('Jade colour' gender neutral just in case- hood, insert etc), feeding pillow, Dr Suess book pack (essential!), universal sunshade, milk storage bags for freezer, HUGE bag of freebies... had to leave because I couldn't carry anymore!
Got really good deals on everything, went with my friend who is 33 weeks tomorrow so we haggled the stalls down a bit between us :-)
Just need some furniture to move DD into her new room and I think we're sorted!
Tired now!

Hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine :-)

StudyFullTime · 17/05/2014 19:39

hiya everyone, how are you all liking the lovely weather, I'm liking it so far but not looking forward to August especially as I'll probably be massive by then.

We went buggy shopping today and got a lovely quinny buzz with car seat and carry cot for £499, so paid half of it and we'll pay the rest as and when.

I'm so bloody tired it's unreal, I hope the 2nd trimester bloom kicks in soon cos I'm really not feeling it.

Elliekins · 17/05/2014 21:47

Hi Spannertime, I hope the antidepressants start to kick in soon. It's been many years since I was in them but I recall it took quite a while to notice a difference as it was such a gradual improvement but then I just noticed that I felt brighter and less anxious.
I assume that they wanted to start you off on a low dose and increase it gradually to find what level works for you rather than overdoing the initial dosage.
I found it was almost like when you take painkillers for a headache, they seem to take ages to work and then sometimes you don't even notice that they've worked and the headache has gone.
I hope you feel better soon, pregnancy is hard enough as it is, without feeling low. Thanks

I also don't have much of an appetite either, which is very odd for me - can't figure out why though!

As for clothes, I've just bought another pair of stretchy elasticated jeans from Matalan, they are great.
I was originally a 10 and now I'm in a 14 and there is still a bit of room to grow.
They are nice and soft and stretchy and CHEAP!
Also, got several stretchy jersey skirts from Primark from last year - they are quite short but I'm now wearing them under my bump/bulge and so they are a more respectable length, a few inches above the knee.

I'm working tonight looking after a scrumptious little newborn, he's called Fred, he's just 3 weeks old and he's all warm and snuffly and lovely - bit late to be broody now, but it's making me very excited and impatient!
After 15 years working as a nanny and a maternity nanny, I'm finally going to have MY VERY OWN little bundle of deliciousness. Smile

LizLimone · 18/05/2014 00:27

Just checking in on the new thread (used to be AveryJessup but name-changed as couldn't log in with old ID for some reason) to mark my place!

Getting a proper bump now at 15 weeks (will be 16 weeks on Tuesday) so have dug some old maternity trousers out of the back of the wardrobe. Anyone complaining about hot weather - you don't know how lucky you are! We're in the US and it was almost 100F this week! Unbearable... am not looking forward to the rest of the summer but will just have to get through it somehow.

Feeling glad things are going OK still though. A colleague of my DH's was pregnant with twins and gave birth suddenly over this week at 27 weeks so her babies are in NICU at the moment. So stressful. It reminded me to keep the worry in perspective and just focus on having a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Mumonabroom · 18/05/2014 06:27

Random I'm down the elective c section route (again) too. After undiagnosed breech the first time and a long labour, I had an emergency c section. Second pregnancy at birth options I had to argue for an elective (for an hour!). I got my way but went into labour on the day of elective. They tried to see if I was suitable for vbac. As I predicted, I wasn't. Would have taken 2-3 days and they couldn't do that with scar from previous c section. So emergency c section on scheduled day followed.

This time I've refused birth options clinic and gone straight to consultant led, high risk c section option. I don't see consultant until September to set a date, but that's fine with me. Birth options wasn't "options" last time, it was consultant, midwife and nurse all telling me how vbac really the only good option. Wrong, for me! Luckily I'd done my research and they didn't stand a chance. When midwife uttered the word vbac this time, I think she quickly discovered it wasn't happening. This is all from a woman who was bout to have a pool birth with gas and air with the first, except the undiagnosed breech bit, it was all going so well... It's taught me to not get hung up about birth plans, as babies had other ideas...Grin
