hi folks - thought we should have a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TeaNCakes · 16/05/2014 18:12

Tigsy I completely understand, also a medic and I wouldn't dream of giving birth anywhere without access to obstetricians, anaesthetists and paediatricians, but also well aware that opinion is down to my very skewed experiance!

RandomInternetStranger · 16/05/2014 18:47

First time round I was all set on staying home as long as possible, no drugs, hoping for a home birth but definitely a waterbirth... one ELCS later and all I'll say is whatever kind of birth you'd LIKE to have, don't set your heart on it, these things can be very unpredictable. Everyone in my NCT group last time ended up with a different birth to the one they planned and some really struggled with that. Just hope to have a certain plan but be prepared for a contingency. I'm going ELCS all the way, but even that can be messed up if this one decides to come early!

pinkgirlythoughts · 16/05/2014 18:49

DH is, ahem, laid-back when it comes to housework. To be fair to him, he cooks dinner 90% of the time, and while I've been feeling awful the last few weeks, he's been washing clothes, hoovering, generally tidying etc. If he sees something that needs doing, he does it (barring ironing, which he hates). Problem is, his idea of 'needs doing' is rather different to mine, so the house is permanently filthy- he hasn't picked up a bottle of bleach or a flash wipe in weeks! He genuinely just doesn't see the mess Confused

alita7 · 16/05/2014 20:47

pinky my dp doesn't see the mess like I do either but I wouldn't mind if he'd just do the chores on his list (take out the rubbish - the only thing he does regularly, wash up, empty the hoover and clean the bathroom once a week) and clean up after himself, but he doesn't!
Random by that reckoning I must be owed loads in debts!!!!
I tried not doing his washing etc, If I don't he let's it get to the point where he has to wear the same top for a week and then buys new socks and underwear before he puts his washing on x)

Posy how are you feeling today?

Petal26 · 16/05/2014 22:22

Full blown maternity clothes today, top and trousers, had a panic trying to find something smart enough for school this morning! Thought my normal shirts might still fit but couldn't get them over the bump :-(
Googling '15 week bumps' taking a bit of comfort in other bumps that look a similar size for mums that seem to be onto baby number 2/3 :-)
14+5 today, baby show tomorrow...

AussieGoingHomeSoon · 16/05/2014 22:29

I'm also going for a hospital birth, I don't want the option of not having an epidural close by if I need it !! 1st baby I was planning on going for waterbirth but was totally open to epidural if I needed it, 3hours in I needed it. 2nd baby, planned to have epidural as didnt want to feel the pain I felt 1st time before epidural, but by time the guy finished his talk about the risks, midwife asked if I was pushing, which I denied ! She checked and said no time, baby is coming and he was out 15 minutes later ! So as I managed without any pain relief last time, I'm going back to my 1st birthing plan of waterbirth this time, surely 3rd baby should just slip out ?? Grin

DP will do chores if told what to do, they won't be done in the time frame I would like or as well as I would do them but they will get done, but with 2 little ones we do small things to make things easier, my robot vacuum is my best friend & my steam mop means mopping only takes 30mins to do whole place and I'm a total wash as I use girl as hate piles of dishes and unfortunately no dishwasher !

Have had a busy few days, DP has taken a few days off so we can all have a bit of extra time together before I return to work in 2 days !! Ahhhh, had a fab day out at the park yesterday, went to a local smokery for a smoke salmon craving and an Australian celebrity chef was filming and I got to eat his offerings for FREE, made my day !! And today was spent at London Zoo, DD liked the giraffe's and all the pigeons the best !

FTMK - I was a curvy size 16 & overweight my 1st 2 pregnancies and didn't put on a kilo during entire pregnancy both times and babies were fine, I seem to loose my appetite when pregnant and eat healthier so have ended up a stone lighter after each pregnancy (then spent 6months regaining back to original weight !) this time I'm starting out much smaller and gained a bit in the 1st 6 weeks(coming off a strict diet) but have stayed the same for the past 9 weeks, I definitely feel my waist has expanded so can also see my shape has changed, so wouldn't worry about lack of weight gain, if you start measuring small, they will let you know at midwife appointments.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend ! My MIL is back from a month in Ireland fixing up their place there and we are telling her about baby this weekend !! Yay, told my family on Aussie Mother's Day last week with a card which she opened when I skyped her, it was a picture of DP holding our 2 children, me next to them with a + sign between us and then a = 5 next to me !! (Have to get creative 3rd time round) my dad and sister got it straight away, it took her a minute or so !! Ha ha

Sorry for mammoth post ! I get a little carried away sometimes

Annarose2014 · 16/05/2014 22:31

Wow, great tip about Googling bumps! Feel less enormous now, lol.

nogeybose · 16/05/2014 23:47

weeonion shame your appt got postponed - let us know how you get on, won't you?

THere's a home birth support group near where I live that meets every month to share info/stories so I might go to the next one on Monday and see what's what. They'd better not put me off by being all earnest and worthy!

I should point out re: the home birth thing, I'm quite lucky because I live a 5-min drive away from my city's main hospital. So if things don't go to plan, I won't have far to go. And even when I "book" a home birth, I can change my mind and go into hospital if I want to (or if I'm in a fit state to speak, more to the point!).

In addition to the one-to-one midwife care, the other thing that swung it for me was that my daughter was almost born at home by accident. After a reaaaallllly long early labour, being sent home once, and being told to stay at home as long as possible even after my waters broke, by the time we managed to get back to the MWU, I was fully dilated and she was born about 20 minutes later.

Who was asking for water birth stories a few pages back?

The above-mentioned daughter was born in a pool. I was terrified as I only managed to get in when it was time to start pushing but I found the water quite reassuring and, strangely, felt as though the pool gave me some privacy. No dignity of course, when there's a midwife with a sieve, fishing out your poo every two minutes, but something resembling privacy... ;)

The most surreal feeling in the world was looking down into the pool, so exhausted I'd almost forgotten the whole point of all that agony was to have a baby, and seeing one drifting around under the water! I was so dazed, the midwife had to tell me to reach down and pick her up. I got out to deliver the placenta because the water was a bit grim by that point.. Anyway, after all that, I'm still planning to hire a birth pool to try to use at home this time.

weeonion · 17/05/2014 00:29

well folks - I can relax. Just got my harmony results emailed in. i havebeen compulsively checking for them for days...

All Low risk - less than 1:10,000 for downs and even lower for Edwards and Patou.
I can accept we are pregnant and really start to think about a baby.
Plus - we know the sex!!! Grin Grin Grin

Poor DP is on an early shift tomorrow but had to wake him. Tears from both of us but happy tears.
We'll tell DD on Sunday evening when we are next all together.

Elliekins · 17/05/2014 00:36

Hooray weeonion!
That's wonderful news, what a massive relief. Smile
How lovely to know the sex too, I don't know how I'm going to contain my impatience until 3rd week of June!

weeonion · 17/05/2014 00:41

ta ellie! i am sitting here weeping. i dont think i realised how scared i was and how it all seemed like some kind of paper exercise, not real. For the first time - i've been looking up images of what stage of growth he / she is it and thinking of names. i feel excited!!!!!

BrandSnob · 17/05/2014 04:34

Just catching up on the thread, and other hilarious MN posts as I can't sleep.

Alita are you sure your DP and mine weren't separated at birth? Their list of chores are pretty much identical. I just wish my DH would do things automatically rather than waiting for me to mention it/tell him, as it makes me feel I'm nagging

Congratulations onion. What a great result. I'm so jealous that you know the sex already. I'm so bloody impatient!

I've currently been up for the last 2 hours worrying about DH who's on a stag weekend in Cardiff. It's probably just my irrational pregnantness as I'm on my own at home. He probably having the the time of his life and not giving a flying fig about me. I'm not dreading any naughtiness, it's more the shenanigans him and his friends get up to. He has a tendency to lose all common sense when they're all together.

I really must get some sleep now, busy day tomorrow chauffeuring PIL around.

WinterLover · 17/05/2014 06:12

Morning ladies, is this heat affecting anyone? Im hating it Sad

plus I have no summer clothes yet due to no money booo might see what tescos has to offer later.

utopian99 · 17/05/2014 06:54

Winter the vast majority of my summer maternity clothes are in storage as we're between houses while we gut/extend the new one. Hard to justify buying more therefore so roll on the 30th when I get them back!

Off to build a shed today with dh, ds and my dbro. Should be at a wedding but they told us only a fortnight before it was a 'kids banned' wedding so that was that! Had even got ds his suit Sad. I do find it a bit odd when people ban weddings 'so the parents can enjoy themselves'. If children are such a hindrance then we wouldn't have chosen to have them!

MrsWombat · 17/05/2014 06:57

What's everyone wearing on the hotter summer days? I'm struggling to find lightweight trousers and cropped ones.

WinterLover · 17/05/2014 07:04

Me personally think that kids (and old people) make a wedding.

When I was pregnant with DS I was heavily pregnant in July (super hot) and lived in black trousers and strappy tops.

Im determined to look nice this time round. I have plenty of jeans but its too hot for jeans. Im opting for leggings and a loose dress although 90% of my loose dresses now don't fit Sad

Twizzzy · 17/05/2014 07:15

Morning all.
Excellent news weeonion.
So far (thanks mostly to some rather bad morning sickness) I've managed to stay in my normal clothes but don't think that will last much longer. Planning on doing a bit of shopping over half term so any advice from the more experienced about what I'm likely to find useful would be much appreciated.
We're off to a wedding today as well utopian - can't be the same one as my niece and nephew are going too. I agree, children and the older generation really make a wedding. Good luck with the shed.

WinterLover · 17/05/2014 07:19

My trick last time was to buy normal womens floaty tops (that made you look huge) but when I got home i'd put a couple of stitched under the arms so it makes it more fitted. Seemed to work ok last time, it just depends what styles are around. It seems as soon as you add 'Maternity' onto the title the price doubles

Venus2 · 17/05/2014 07:22

Yay Weeonion. Congratulations! You must be so relieved. I'm happy to hear that you can finally enjoy being pg. Have fun telling your family.
MrsWombat, I'm living in linen pants with a drawstring waist. Super comfy and cool.

utopian99 · 17/05/2014 07:28

Maxi dresseses from anywhere in a size up and long vest tops over linen maternity trousers with bump panels did me last time. Gap do some good trousers, and I love isabella oliver but worth looking for second hand as not cheap!

Mumonabroom · 17/05/2014 07:32

Thanks for new thread. Marking place. Can't believe nearly 15 weeks, it's going so fast this time Smile

Nessalina · 17/05/2014 07:42

So pleased for you weeonion! I'm still on tenter hooks waiting for my NIFTY results... Everything looked ok at scan but I really wanna see it in black & white!!

moggle · 17/05/2014 08:31

Nice one weeonion, great that you can enjoy things now.

Re maternity wear, so far I've just had to dig out jeans from a couple of years ago when I was a few kg heavier. But I don't think they'll last long so I'll have to get some proper mat jeans in a couple of weeks. Tops wise, most of my current wardrobe are cheap tshirts which I don't mind stretching a bit, so I'll stick with those for as long as I can...

We're off on holiday to Portugal this afternoon!! Sooo need it. After all the ivf I feel like the whole of 2014 has been a bit of a stress so far and I can't wait to catch up on sleep and do nothing for a week. Ahhhh!

barmybunting · 17/05/2014 08:46

Morning everyone! This sunny weather is lovely, long may it last! With that in mind, I am off to attempt to get some maternity clothes today as jeans and trousers aren't working too well anymore. I am hoping that some loose dresses and leggings, and linen trousers will work until Septemberish when jeans etc will be necessary again for the winter. Thankfully, with the summer holidays approaching, I don't need to worry about clothes for work beyond 24 weeks so hopefully roomier dresses will do.

Tigsy · 17/05/2014 09:04

Fab news Weeonion. I'm really struggling with finding clothes suitable to wear at the moment. I don't really wear trousers to work but most of my dresses are no good now as there are too tight, and don't have enough of a bump to actually feel ok wearing right- fitting stuff. Can't find much that is loose without making me look huge and frumpy. Similarly, jeans no longer fit- I did buy a pair of mat trousers from new look that seem nice and comfy but they're too big at the moment! Can't win!
