hi folks - thought we should have a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
moggle · 07/06/2014 09:15

bunnykitten yes the new birth centre is incredibly exciting! Hopefully we will both stay nice and low risk and be able to breathe out our babies there :)
I hope the nct classes aren't toooo booked up and there's room for me somewhere!!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend planned. We are going to see a house (a ridiculous one with a granny annexe on!) and then I'll watch DH play cricket for a bit, probably though it'll rain and I'll just sit in the car with my knitting...

BrandSnob · 07/06/2014 09:22

Thanks for the info Mrs Wombat, very useful!

My nearest hospital St Hellholes St Helier traditionally/historically has an awful local reputation, but they seem to have really got their act together and actually has really good reviews. I'm under Epsom which is a teeny bit further in the opposite direction and doesn't fare as well. I still have a choice of either one, but I still can't shake the old image of St Helier from my head.

StudyFullTime · 07/06/2014 10:04

Really useful info mrswombat, thanks for posting.

Got my doppler this morning, found heartbeat straight away it's sat at 145bpm and sounds like a steam train Grin

I looked at my belly closely today and found I've developed a lovely hair line right down the centre, tis vair attractive!

MrsWombat · 07/06/2014 10:21

The hospital where most of my friends and colleagues had their babies has the nickname of Death Valley. They all think it's wonderful and can't understand why i've picked a different one. Their community midwife for my area is fantastic (I work with her in a multi discipline team) but a friend of mine had a birth there that was miss managed and baby was very poorly after which has put us off. It's also recently been taken over by another really good hospital.

People raise an eyebrow at the one we've picked but it's got a NICU, it's closer, it has level 3 UNICEF baby friendly rating and the VBAC stats are slightly better, unlike Death! It's got a bad reputation but the negative thing I've heard have been about the post natal wards, where I think the actual birth bit is more important!

Oklahoma · 07/06/2014 10:36

We're going to Royal Surrey and would love a Surrey/Berkshire meet up! I'm also in Woking.

Alita7 · 07/06/2014 10:36

Study I've got the same hair line -.- and I'm extremely pale so have no linea niagra and don't expect to but when I have a shower I get a red line on the bottom half of my belly that looks like a linear niagra would.

Alita7 · 07/06/2014 10:37

Where do we think is a good place for the meet up then?

Oklahoma · 07/06/2014 11:33

How about everyone in the vicinity PMs me and I can then work out what would be most central? Or we could start a new thread for it?

blamber · 07/06/2014 12:24

I like the idea of slings, but that recent story about a baby suffocating in one has really spooked me! I'll have to read a bit more into it, to see how they are used safely.

mrswombat, that site was very useful. I am going to the nearest hospital, which seem quite good. The only thing is, they have just the one birth pool, so I'm hoping no one is using it when I want to! I still prefer this birth centre in the area that sounds lovely, but it's half an hour away and impossible to get to during rush hour, so I'd rather not risk it!

I'm having a tough day - tired, drained, out of breath, that sort of feeling. I also have to finish my PhD this weekend. I want to print it all out on Monday and resubmit. I have had a month to do minor corrections after my viva and that runs out next week! I just can't be bothered though. Ugh. Only motivation is that this will be the very last bit. After this I won't have to do any more work on it ever.

www.rospa.com/homesafety/adviceandinformation/product/baby-slings.aspx

This is the current advice on baby slings.

Tight
In view at all times
Close enough to kiss
Keep chin off the chest
Supported back.

blamber · 07/06/2014 17:34

Thanks mrswombat

amy83firsttimer · 07/06/2014 17:44

Weird, I just saw someone in m&s with a child in a gorgeous sling and asked her where it's from. She rents it from the sling library in Stockport and gave me a card with their details. Sounds interesting! I think it'd be useful to try a few before buying at least as you don't know what will work for you I suppose.

Hopeful83 · 07/06/2014 18:03

Anyone else feeling really puffy? My hands/feet seem puffy and my watch/rings barely fit. I didn't think this was supposed to happen until nearer the end of pregnancy Shock

RandomInternetStranger · 07/06/2014 18:24

Had a scan today. Team PINK! It's a girl! Smile

Everything seems fine, perfect size, she's sitting upright all over to the right hand side, all perfect. even got to count 10 little fingers.Grin

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 07/06/2014 18:37

Hello was having good day so far then I popped to shops on own n disaster mis judged space n scuffed another car left my details on car n informed deputy manager n she took details n manager came n advised me to take pics as not everyone is nice or honest n could exaggerate damage. Anyway did my shopping forgot half of it. Bloke to car waiting when came out wasn't horrid but obviously peed off but has agreed husband can ring him to deal with it more damage to his than mine n all paintwork. Husband works in insurance claims not small stuff like cars anymore but has a garage contact so will email them pics ask for quote n see how much before putting through insurance my damage will be less than our excess so no point for mine.

So cross with myself as wasted money we don't have however husband is more of the accidents happen that's why insurance exists n doesn't want to hear anymore about it says he will sort it Mon.

On a positive note friend who had six mth old just gave us playmat n bouncy chair all washed n clean

amy83firsttimer · 07/06/2014 18:47

I'm on 3 bumps so far in this pregnancy. Luckily none have made it to insurance company (yet) though I suppose people could change their mind weeks later and claim. Fingers crossed for you and me too!

blamber · 07/06/2014 20:56

Random congrats!! How exciting!

weeonion · 07/06/2014 21:02

mrswombat thanks for that link. I LOVED babywearing and it became my indulgence! I spent way too much on beaut slings and mei tais. sadly - some people we lent them to - have "misplaced" them so my stock is well down! DP loved wearing DD and was quite an expert on wraps. We avoided all babybjorn type ones though did have an Ergo. We wore DD til she was about 3.5 and it was a godsend on holidays etc!

I would recommend going to a sling meet / sling library to try our slings / wraps / carriers before you start buying your own.

eastmids - bah on your car prang but yr DH sounds like he has the right attitude.

Oklahoma, I'm also going to Royal Surrey. I live in Farnham. Keep me posted on a Surrey group meeting.

MrsWombat · 07/06/2014 22:49

weeonion We have a bush baby which DP loves to use as it's very manly Hmm, a wrap which I mostly used, and a Papatum which we didn't really use much. Looking for something like a mei tai this time as well for me. Need to find out what's best for a tiny newborn. DS was a nightmare as newborn and I think if I'd had the slings then (didn't start slinging till 4 months) I might have coped a bit better.

Our local NCT group has a sling library so thinking of going to one of the meetings before baby is born to take a look.

bunnykitten · 07/06/2014 23:26

I don't know anyone else locally who is pregnant so I'd love a Surrey meet-up too - I'm in Woking.

Alita7 · 07/06/2014 23:40

I also haven't got any pregnant friend's, the only person I know in the area who is pregnant is dsds horrendous mother! I know who I'm NOT buddying up with!

I'll start a thread on here as I can't figure out how to pm on my phone and I know a few others use their phone more than their pc for fb.

Hello, just popping on to say hi! I have been trying to keep up with it all but I have exams coming up and projects to do, so not been able to. Just having a quick browse tonight as ex is here and staying over so I am stil downstairs and he has gone to bed, don't want to bump into him coming out the bathroom.

I am 17 weeks +1 and still don't think I have felt movement, I am sure I had felt it with dd2 and ds1 by now. Maybe it is due to me being fatter now than then.

I am also west Yorks, are we having a meet? :)

amylou85 · 08/06/2014 08:08

crazybit I'm in Yorkshire too so would love it if we could have a Yorkshire meet up group! I'm in Barnsley. Who else is in Yorkshire? At this rate I'll end up running to the Surrey one as feeling a lonely preggers up here! Yorkshire ppl lets get together!

Also thanks MrsWombat for the website. I need to keep up to date on here, always check the Facebook group and then realise 5 pages have passed on this! My 16 week appt is tomorrow. Not terribly excited.
