hi folks - thought we should have a new thread!

OP posts:

PosyFossilsShoes · 20/05/2014 10:22

Weeonion - have you got a Shewee? If so, practice in the shower first, the trick is not to hold it right up to yourself otherwise you get wee everywhere, hold it a few mm away and pee through it.

I'm quite tempted to put Aethelwulf Clement Isambard on the MN Baby Names sub forum and see what people make of it. Grin

weeonion · 20/05/2014 10:24

study - lol. love optimus prime!!

Imagine if older siblings did indeed name the younger ones - what an interesting roll call that would make!

I remember a friend's 3 yr old telling everyone that his mum had a big tummy because she was going to have a helicopter. just loved that image!!

DP and I are into game of thrones at the moment, quite like Arya but not Cersei or Sansa!

It would be funny if older siblings could name new babies, can imagine school register...

I've just made the decision to give up work, we have decided to get married in August (very small wedding) so I will become a dreaded forces wife Grin

weeonion · 20/05/2014 10:33

oh posy - you must put that on the names sub forum!!!!! Grin

has anyone seen stripeytoes around? she was t have her scan over a week ago and was then gonna tell her folks. I dont think she has been back on but i might have missed her. Hope all is ok...

Posy - ds had isambard on the list for his name for a few months! Also loving optimus prime. Grin

We've always had good options for boys names but really struggle on girls. Had finally got a girl's option when ds was born but am now second guessing it. I have a small obsession with girls names which can abbreviate to make boys names, as I always wanted one as a child.

Waters-wise my hind waters went but labour didn't start so they had me in for induction when labour started anyway. I didn't know it at the time as I'd had three falsealarms so ujust ignored the discomfort till they told me it was genuinely starting. Proper waters the went a few hours before the birth, while dh was there. I am pretty 1950s about this sort of thing I admit but it was literally one of the most humiliating things I could have wished to happen as still had my trousers on at that point. Dh doesn't care, but I hate that sort of thing.

Thisisimpossible · 20/05/2014 11:10

posy and weeonion I took a shewee camping with us to Europe last summer. DP thought it was the weirdest thing he'd ever seen and struggled to cope with it Grin but I found it really useful, especially on long journeys through the countryside where there were no legitimate loo stops and at night. No having to bare your bottom to the world Wink and you realise how easy the boys have it! They really are quite ingenious. But like Posy says, definitely, definitely have a practice in the shower first..

TwigletFiend · 20/05/2014 12:16

Oh congratulations Venus, how lovely! Grin

We have girls names sorted down to two we like (Jasmine is the favourite at the moment with Sienna as another option we both like.) Boys names we can't seem to agree on at all! DP likes Harry, which I actually think is ok but not 100% keen on it because my brother's stepdaughter has a dog called Harry! I quite like Ciaran but DP not sure. Think we're both quite keen on Archie (definitely just Archie, not Archibald!) so fingers crossed we stay in agreement on it! If not, I may steal Optimus Prime from your DC Study, heehee! Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials too Smile

Am 14+2 today and have had some interesting discomfort the last couple of days. Those with ligament pain, does it feel very similar to cramps or no? Sunday evening I had about 15 minutes where I had dire cramping feelings down the inside of my right hip and across my belly, but very low down, below where I used to get period pains. Also woke up in the night last night with a similar feeling but down my right side, from just below my ribs down to my hip joint. Lasted about 10 minutes then abated enough that I went back to sleep. No spotting or anything and no sharp pains, so don't think it's anything to worry about, but not had them before either.

Amyrose82 · 20/05/2014 12:20

Alita, my DH also has spooky baby intuition - he told me I was pregnant two weeks before we found out! And he's 100% sure it's a boy because he dreamt it - although he does have form for that kind of premonition-y dream, he says it's the gypsy blood in him!

We've got a solid list of girls' names which we both like but boys are so difficult - we've only come across one so far which we both like enough!

Study - DH's top girls' name was Arya Grin

Mathssssteacher123 · 20/05/2014 13:09

Have my consultant appointment today so will be good to know what the plan will be for later on in the pregnancy. I had to be induced at 36 weeks due to a ongoing bladder condition that I have. I have a neurostimulator in my back (a bit like a pacemaker for nerves) but it has to be switched off in pregnancy so am back to self catheterising and it is already causing me so many problems I wish I could wee properly!!
My friend just text to tell me she found out she has suffered an ectopic pregnancy I'm so devastated for her :( and another friends husband has just walked out on her while she is 8 months pregnant with her second child. Really counting my blessings today life just seems so cruel ATM to such lovely people :(

Mathssssteacher123 · 20/05/2014 13:24

On the names front it's so difficult my oh thinks disney princess names are genuinely a good choice :/

Kantha · 20/05/2014 13:26

Hello, can I join?

I have been lurking from the very beginning, but was holding off posting till 12 weeks. Then we got a high Downs risk back, which was just a bit stressful. The results of a Harmony test came back with good news this week, and then at a 16 wk check with a MW yesterday I heard a heartbeat so I FINALLY feel like I can say hello to you all.

This is DC3 for me. We already have two lovely DSs who are nearly 6 and 3. We told them about the baby last night. DS1 went and found an old baby name book and got down to the practicalities straight away (couldn't be more different to his father Grin who hates discussing baby names). DS2 initially thought we should call it poo-poo then changed his mind and went for Mr Happy which I prefer.

Blush -hides post with Jasmine as name choice-

Hi Kantha, glad everything is settling down for you and you're ready to start enjoying DC3 now! I definitely think Mr. Happy is an improvement on poo-poo, though it would at least be telling it like it is for a while!

I got a phone call last night from DP's nephew (age 4) that went like this:

Me: Hello?
Nephew: I want to marry you.
Me: Pardon?
Nephew: I want to marry you but not for a long time because I'm not a big enough man yet.
Me: Oh, ok. That's very nice, thank you!
Nephew: Ok. Speak to Daddy now.

He's such a monkey but so cute sometimes! Apparently he sat down on the sofa and announced his decision to marry me yesterday afternoon then asked Daddy if he could call me to tell me Grin

Maths, that sounds miserable. Hope your friends are getting lots of love and support to help them through the shitty times. Hope your problems also ease off a little as your body gets back into the routine Sad

Annarose2014 · 20/05/2014 15:06

twiglet for me ligament pain felt like a pulling downwards and sometimes it was just in one place and sometimes it was like a 'U" shape all around the bottom and sides. It was a bit like period cramps in that it was achey and persistent. Worse when twisting/bending/stretching. Occasionally felt like.my tummy was gonna be pulled to the ground!

It definitely felt muscular, and on the outside rather than the inside so I figured it was ok.

Am now wearing a huge bolt of super tight tubigrip like a corset and the difference is fantastic. Very little discomfort since.

Am gonna get referred to the physio just in case its a recurring issue for me. I've a lot of growing to do yet!

Mathssssteacher123 · 20/05/2014 16:02

Twiglet I forgot jasmine was disney I could more than cope with that choice however aurora and Cinderella (cindy for short) not so good! I hope I didn't cause offence!
Been waiting nearly an hour for the consultant now hurry up!!!!!!

BrandSnob · 20/05/2014 16:03

How early can you expect to feel movement with your first DC? I'm 14+5 and I think I can already feel when the baby shifts from one side to the other. I'm not feeling full on movement per se, just weird sensations probably wind like bubbles popping every so often. Seems to happen between 5 and 7pm everyday.

On the names front I'm really struggling with girls names. I need to have a few in reserve in case my husband's dream of us having a boy isn't a prediction of the future. Now I need to rethink my boys names now as my FIL poo-pooed our favourite as it happens to be the name of DH's cousin. He's around 18 and we don't see that side of the family much so I can't see why we can't use it. I'll have another think once we know the sex.

alita7 · 20/05/2014 16:52

brand snob every few days I'm wondering if I can feel things. yesterday dp thought he could feel moving from the out side aswell but only 15+5 so thinking that was probably wind who knows!

maths sorry everyone's having a hard time!

Our girl names a bit princessy and I'm pretty sure my mum will hate it but It's the first one were both 100% happy with so tough!
I'm not thrilled about any of our boys names, there are a select few that I love and he doesn't like them :( we quite like 1 but I will feel a bit like I've settled for it.

I'm also having stretchy and sharp pains more on one side at a time than central. good to know it's common, not too worried as can hear moving and hb on the doppler.

Mathssssteacher123 · 20/05/2014 17:02

Alita- as long as you and your do like it it doesn't matter what anyone thinks! Once they're born you can never imagine them being called anything else!
Must be so good having a Doppler at home. Really thinking of investing in one. How much are they?
I've just got out from seeing the dr and they listened into baby which was lovely and reassuring. Looks like I'll be having a October baby from discussions today. They have said they will induce me when I need to which will probably be similar to last time when physically self catheterising is impossible.
Even though the sun has gone it's still so muggy and hot I need some floaty clothes!

alita7 · 20/05/2014 17:05

they're about £20 from argos :)

alita7 · 20/05/2014 17:06

(to clarify it's not toooo princessy like aurora and cinderella :p)

Hopeful83 · 20/05/2014 17:12

Hi everyone,

We know we're having a girl and have no girl names! We have a few boy ones but are really struggling for girl names. We want something a bit unusual as we have a common surname, but nothing people will laugh at/bitch about behind our backs. It's so hard!

No movements felt here yet and I'm 16 weeks today. Hope this is normal, it is DC1. Anyone else 16 weeks and can't feel it yet. Maybe I'm not 'trying' hard enough - I'll lay in bed tonight and see if I can notice anything.

Just got back from the midwife for my 16 week appointment - it was the first time I have met her as I saw a different one at the hospital for my 8 week one. She was really lovely, so I am pleased. I heard the heartbeat, which was 147. Is this about normal? I am rhesus negative though, so will need to anti D injection, which I have heard is horrible.

Re clothes, I have not bought anything maternity yet except a 2 pack of leggings from New Look, which are too big on the waist but are much comfier. I'm not showing that much so am managing with the clothes I bought in the next size up. However I have a wedding next weekend and need to buy a dress for it this weekend. I normally love shopping but am dreading shopping for this as my usual style is cinched in at the waist (I normally have a small waist to show off but no longer) so I'm going to need to try to buy something in a style I wouldn't normally wear.

I have had a few crampy type pains over the last few days but assume it's just stretching or something, they're only mild.

Polkadotscarf · 20/05/2014 18:34

Ooooh weeeee, I bought my first maternity wear today! I felt a bit of a fraud as my bump is hardly noticeable but big enough to stop my trousers doing up!
No names here but we're having good fun thinking of possibilities, age to decide yet! :-)

Polkadotscarf · 20/05/2014 18:36

I have had stretchy pains too, mainly if I roll over in bed too quickly or twist my waist. No movement felt either but the Doppler is the best buy ever for reassurance! Midwife appointment next week, has come round so quickly :-)
16+1

Annarose2014 · 20/05/2014 18:40

Hopeful that sounds about what it is for me when I count on my Doppler! It's always around the 140's.

barmybunting · 20/05/2014 19:59

Has anyone bought a particular pillow for sleeping that is helping with pelvic/back pain at all? I normally use a normal pillow between my legs when suffering from back pain but it has stopped working lately. I have seem various pillows advertised as pregnancy pillows but am not sure if they are just a gimmick or actually useful?

Petal26 · 20/05/2014 20:15

Just fell asleep on top of my bed and DH has woken me up reminding me that I have reports to write for school, boo :-( I'm still really feeling tired most of the time, not got my energy back yet.

Barmy I've got a V shaped pillow (from Dunelm I think) that I used a lot towards the end last time, under my bump and between my legs, found it helpful.

We have a few girls names but struggle to choose boys. I suppose (hopefully) we'll know in a few weeks and can choose then. We had DD's name picked and ready last time, I think it helped me with the bonding when I was getting grumpy towards the end of pregnancy!
