hi folks - thought we should have a new thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Had my 16 week midwife appointment today Smile
Was 15 minutes late as I forgot about it and was baking DP a birthday cake Blush but all was good. Got blood results and results of NT, did blood pressure and urine check and listened to baby's heartbeat. Midwife said baby was very well behaved as was so easy to find!
Everything fine, I had a student do most of the checks and didn't feel rushed at all. I really like our midwives, there are only five of them so you tend to get to meet them all at least once and then they will always come out to you or attend you in the hospital if they are on shift so it's really nice. I was very glad to see my familiar midwife's face when in labour with DD2.
Next appointment is at 21 weeks, have 20 week scan to look forward to first though!

barmybunting · 20/05/2014 20:23

Petal, I have just started my school reports tonight. Goodness I hate writing them! I know they are necessary but I would so much rather talk to the parents! Anyway, I hope you get on ok with yours Smile. I am hoping to get mine done during half term next week to avoid the tiredness after teaching all day. They might make more sense then!

alita7 · 20/05/2014 20:24

I have a v shaped pregnancy pillow but haven't used it much yet, I'm hoping it will be useful later on. I got it from argos for under £20 I think.

pannekoeken · 20/05/2014 21:20

Hello - I'm due in November! Can I go on the list? Smile

blamber · 20/05/2014 21:38

For those feeling movement early on, the midwife told me that if you are slender you may feel movement before the 16 weeks. But they don't get worried about not feeling movement up to 20 weeks either, because then at the scan they can see if your placenta is at the front, which makes feeling the baby more difficult.

blamber · 20/05/2014 21:39

Pannekoeken of course you can, if you bake us some! Smile

pannekoeken · 20/05/2014 21:41

Blamber - I would if I could send them out virtually! Grin

alita7 · 20/05/2014 23:07

I really think I might be feeling things, though it doesn't feel like a flutter, it feels stronger than that. It happened when I was lying down last night and again when now I've gotten into bed. Could still be wind though... especially as it's after dinner.

Thanks Keepon, I will have a look at the pillow Smile.

Glad your scan went well! It is a relief to see the baby, isn't it?

pinkgirlythoughts · 21/05/2014 07:29

Oh, the horror of school reports! Head announced on Monday she would like them all in by the end of the first week back after half term, which gives me a little over tow weeks to do them all, plus we're being externally moderated, so need to make sure I'm prepared for that too. Bang goes the relaxing half term break I'd been hoping for!

BrandSnob · 21/05/2014 07:59

Hi Barmy
I bought the Body Sleep Pillow from Argos a few weeks ago and it does the job. Half price at £11.99 with really good reviews.
www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3768789.htm
Item number 3768789 if the link doesn't work.
It's not anything special, just a really long pillow at over a metre long. The filling is comparable to a regular pillow so no fancy beads or memory foamIt's a good cheap and cheerful pillow that's been great to cuddle during the night and rest my upper leg on. My DH secretly dislikes it as it gets more affection then him at the moment Blush

Elliekins · 21/05/2014 08:01

Argos have a cheap mum to be pillow pack that's ok, not amazing but cheap, was 29.99 and now only 9.99. You get a v pillow which I have been snuggling into on my left side, with it between my knees. -slept much better since I've had it. It so has a little wedge pillow which I've been putting behind me so I stay on my left. Haven't woken myself up turning over with stretchy pain since Smile

mismylinford · 21/05/2014 08:16

pillow- i love my mum.to be pillow i have it from my first and i couldn't wait to get it back out been using it since 12 weeks. i got it from mother care for about £25 but that was 4 years ago.
glad to hear good news on scans and midwife visits. i have mine next week ill be 17 weeks so i think they are running behind

StudyFullTime · 21/05/2014 08:21

brandsnob I bought that pillow when carrying DS and I still have it now and am using it again, cbeap and cheerful and does the job nicely.

alita7 · 21/05/2014 09:06

ellie I think that's the one I've got but the little one is useless :p

Thisisimpossible · 21/05/2014 09:32

Twiglet, I had similar pains over the weekend - very like period pains in the centre low down. Interestingly in the last two days my bump seems to have got bigger/firmer so maybe it's just stretching as the baby has a growth spurt. I'm 14+5 today.

Interesting stuff about the pillows. I might have to think about getting one.

Elliekins · 21/05/2014 09:48

Alita, I couldn't really see the point of the little wedge one but it does seem to keep me in one place!
My DP forcibly wedges it under my hip/bum once I'm in a comfy position on my side and it seems to keep me there, apparently it also stops me 'reversing' into his side of the bed in the night which he is delighted about.
He is very possessive of 'his side' of the bed, which is very unreasonable given his bloody snoring!

weeonion · 21/05/2014 09:57

HOLY MOLY! Grin Grin Grin

weeonion, my life will not be complete until I have one of these in it. If you learn to crochet, will you make me one pleeeease?! (Terrible that my first thought on seeing the VHC set wasn't 'What has someone done to that child?' but 'I WANT ONE OF THOSE').

Thisis, glad it's not just me. I think I might actually have a tiny bump now too, which just appeared overnight yesterday Hmm. Not 100% convinced it's not still bloat though. Hopefully the discomfort was just everything shifting around - no further cramping or anything since.

I always sleep with the duvet piled up between my knees anyway as I have wide hips, which get extremely uncomfortable if my top leg isn't supported. Definitely thinking of going for a pillow. I love the look of those whole-body ones that you just squash into the shape you want, but feel it may be a bit of indulgence as I don't really 'look' pregnant yet Blush

I wasn't keen on the idea of a Doppler before, but I have to say that it's growing on me. My only worry would be not being able to find the HB and then having a panic attack. Those with them, did you get someone to show you how to use it? Or did you just learn by doing?

Thisisimpossible · 21/05/2014 10:10

weeonion I LOVE them! I have copied the link and sent to DP Grin

Anyone seen Random? I may have missed her posting but I don't think we've seen her around for a few days. Hope all is ok.

Miskate · 21/05/2014 10:26

HOW WEIRD I was literally just looking at this ready made version. No crochet skills necessary!

I also miss the random postings of Random - she certainly has a more interesting life than me.

Thisisimpossible · 21/05/2014 10:45

Amazon is a great timewaster! Have you seen all the other suggested purchases further down that page?! I had no idea there were so many new things I could start looking at for retail therapy opportunities Grin

Have just ordered a Doppler twiglet. I figured what the hell as it was the one thing at the scan that DP found the most amazing - watching his face as the sonographer turned it on was lovely. I think it will be nice for him to be able to hear the baby Smile It's the cheapest one on there but it has good reviews so I'm hoping it will be ok.

TeaNCakes · 21/05/2014 11:36

I've also seen a knitted hungry caterpillar outfit which I'm planning to make, I'm much better at knitting than crochet so will be quicker and less likely to be a disaster! I'll try to post the link for that when I get home for anyone who might be interested!

Good to hear pillow reviews, was thinking about getting something to try to stop me rolling onto my back, although am a bit worried it might be rather hot in a nest of pillows at the moment! Maybe the beady ones are less hot?

MrsWombat · 21/05/2014 12:04

Oh my goodness for £6.25 that hungry caterpillar costume is mine, and now on my amazon baby wish list. I can crochet (badly) but for that price I think I'll sneak it on to a shopping order. I was looking at attempting some simple hats and blankets.
