Morning all. Hope you all had a good weekend Smile I LOVE this weather! We had a long walk with the dogs by the sea yesterday morning and it was the first time in weeks I've been able to do a decent walk without either exhaustion or pain kicking in. So nice to be back out in the fresh air doing what I love. I do, however, need to sort out some maternity shorts with some urgency.

Our combined results arrived over the weekend and we got a 1:910 which for me is a huge relief. We were both delighted with that result and I do feel I can settle down a bit more into the pregnancy now.

I have to go to a funeral tomorrow and I am worried about what to wear. My usual dark suit doesn't fit and so I am thinking about the following, within the limited range of stuff I have available to wear that fits...black full length leggings, a smart black and white striped maternity top, and to dress it up a bit a scarf and either a knee length black cardigan (quite tailored and smart) or a full length black cardigan (also tailored and smart - DP jokingly says it makes me look like Cruella de Vil because I'm tall and it can look quite imposing) I'm just worried about wearing leggings to a funeral. I'm not sure that they're smart enough. The only alternative is slightly faded black maternity jeans but I feel just as awkward about wearing jeans. Any thoughts welcomed Smile and if I'm over-thinking it please tell me! I don't have any sense of what is normal to worry about these days and what is not.

Good luck Blamber Smile

Greenstone · 19/05/2014 10:12

Seriously, HOW can it be that Britain and Ireland are so close in location and yet your summer weather is always so much nicer than ours! (rhetorical question, I do sort of understand how it can be but I'm still not happy about it!)

I got these pink maternity shorts from ASOS for my upcoming hols. They are really cute, I'm very happy with them - however, I'm 5'2 and they're fairly short-short on me so beware!

I also got this black maxi dress which isn't maternity but there's plenty of give in it - it does accentuate the bump though...

also this little stripe dress in a size up, it's very light and roomy.

Thisis, I'd probably go with the jeans instead of the leggings, but on the other hand I really don't think anybody will be looking at you and thinking 'what is she wearing?!' No-one will notice. Wear whatever feels more right when you try it on.

blamber good luck!

alita7 · 19/05/2014 10:46

Good luck with your scan blamber! Good to hear about good nuchal results!
Ive woken up feeling sick again the past few days, not impressed I'm 15+ 4 I should have said good bye to that!!!!

alita7 · 19/05/2014 10:48

oh and this is impossible, do the family and close friends know you are pregnant. If so wear whatever you can that is comfy and smartish. leggings with a long top should be ok in my opinion, less noticeable than jeans!

Thisisimpossible · 19/05/2014 11:07

Greenstone I love the pink shorts! However if they're short on you at 5'2" I think I'll probably avoid them Smile The tops of my thighs are probably not what the general public needs to see at the moment.

Alita so sorry you're feeling sick again Sad and thanks to both of you for your advice. Yes, most people know I'm pregnant now so the comfy option should be ok.

TwigletFiend · 19/05/2014 11:25

Yes, thisis, I'd personally go with the leggings if they're darker than the faded jeans. Looks a bit smarter I think. But whatever is comfortable should be fine, it all sounds suitably respectful to me and nobody would want you to be thinking about how uncomfortable you are when you should hopefully be remembering the life of the person you are mourning.

Good luck today, blamber, hope it all goes well and your Bean gives you a little wave or something!

I am stuck in the office at the moment and the euphoria of the catalogue proof has thoroughly worn off - just been notified that I have until June 1st to research, choose and put together a presentation on a website update, including who the new provider will be, fees, whether dual ecommerce functionality is possible... Holy crap. No pressure then! Confused

alita, hope you feel better soon Sad What shitty luck, hopefully it's just a phase and it will pass. Make sure you're eating and drinking enough and getting plenty of rest - maybe it's the weather?

Bought some non maternity trousers from Asda this morning in the next size up. I think they'll fit under the my bump until September. I managed in my normal drawstring trousers last time so hoping next size up will do this time. Also going on holiday long haul in Feb when baby will be 4 months, so slightly larger trousers will be a good option for then.

The cargo trousers are for every day, and I might need to sew a bit of elastic in. The linen cropped trousers are for work/smart casual. Will see if I can get them in other colours too, but will definitely get some more in the black.

re maturity clothes... my mum brought me some but they are over bump and don't fit right yet.... luckily... i think luckily .. over the past year n half i lots 2 stone so im slowly moving back into my.larger clothes again... and some i wore after dd still fall straight off me. if this weather is sign of things to come in summer... ill be wearing maxi dresses ... i don't really like them as i think i look like a tent... even in my previous size 8.. (doubt I'll fit in that again). but i cam remember getting to a i don't care what i look like point with dd i just want to be Comfy. which is true... be Comfy that's all that matters.

alita7 · 19/05/2014 13:11

I am also thinking maxi dresses for the summer- having trouble finding them at 5 ft 1 1/2 though -.- Shorts all the time would leave me having to shave my legs too much, they get all eczema-y if I shave more than say twice a week and they are already stubbly 12 hours after I shave them -.-

Thisisimpossible · 19/05/2014 13:15

Alita the black maxi dress that Greenstone mentioned further up the thread is specially designed for petite ladies and says on the bottom that it is perfect for 5'3" and below Smile

alita7 · 19/05/2014 13:30

It's also above my budget :p I'm trying to stick to £10 and bellow per dress as I haven't really got any spare money after I put some into the baby fund!

I've got about 4 already. But I'd certainly like more variety, I'm finding a few on ebay, but the price goes up quickly.

TwigletFiend · 19/05/2014 13:40

Alita, can you have a hot wax instead of shaving? Lasts longer and is good for sensitive skin! (As opposed to cold wax, which is harsher on your skin.) Not expensive either if you only go every 3 weeks or so - I go once a month now, but I have slow regrowth from years of abusing my hair follicles Grin

I bought a friend a beautiful maxi dress for a birthday gift last summer and am now wishing I'd kept it (which I nearly did at the time) as it would have been perfect for a pg summer! It was tribal print, jade green and black with slinky little shoulder straps wrapped in gold metal. Lovely, soft flowing cotton. Now I can't seem to find any maxi dresses I like that aren't black!

On a side note, we have a lad at work who is SN (I think mild-spectrum autism, but not 100% sure). He's a really lovely guy, but not always tuned in to what's appropriate in conversation. He just came into my office and announced that he has a verruca on his foot and then TOOK HIS BOOT OFF to show me. I have a weird phobia of feet anyway (they're gross) but I did this humungous gag and had to leg it to the bathroom. Now I feel bad because he's confused and keeps apologising and I can't make him understand that it wasn't his fault, I just have a bit of a sensitive stomach at the moment!

alita7 · 19/05/2014 13:55

I can't really wax atm due to all the scabs on my legs as it's gotten worse with pregnancy without shaving them- mostly the eczema stays to the creases, so under my knees and elbows, but when I shave my legs I get itchy bits all down my calves which over night turn into scabby rashy bits. I last shaved my legs nearly a month ago now :O and the scabs are still itchy and won't go... so yeh I can't wax them and I can't use hair removal cream, I'm thinking about epilating again but it never leaves smooth legs. I could try waxing around them, but I wouldn't trust anyone else to do it so would have to do it from home.

alita7 · 19/05/2014 13:56

ps I'm also a total wuss with waxing :P

mismylinford · 19/05/2014 14:03

alita have you tried ebay? can get some right bargains

Petal26 · 19/05/2014 16:24

Afternoon all!

weeonion I'm not aiming for 36 weeks! DD was 1 day off being 42 weeks and I'm hoping to work to 38ish weeks so 36 would be inconvenient!

pink I've been feeling flutters for a couple of weeks when laying flat in bed (15+1 today) Today during DD's swimming lesson I am convinced I was getting thumped, felt all sorts in the pool. :-)

mismy I was lucky enough to be put in a private room overnight last time after having DD, was lovely. They did forget about me for dinner so had to get DH to bring me some sandwiches when he came in but that was the only complaint. I do understand about not wanting to be on the ward. Have heard so many stories from my friends. I think there is an option at my hospital to register your interest for a private room whilst pregnant and then if there's one available you can pay £120ish for the night if there is one available. I think I got one last time because of the long labour/interventions. Considering registering my interest in a private room this time. Hopefully as this is number 2, they'll keep me in for the minimum time and I won't be there overnight!

Petal26 · 19/05/2014 16:35

Forgot to say.. blamber hope everything went well with scan today :-)

PosyFossilsShoes · 19/05/2014 16:41

Twiglet that sounds gross, I'm not surprised you gagged! Don't worry, it's probably taught him something useful about not showing people your feet unless they ask (I'm another one surfing the edges of the NT bell curve, and being told when something is inappropriate is miles better than that vague sense that you've done something wrong but nobody will tell you what.)

I don't usually bother to shave my legs - my hair is relatively fine and relatively fair so it's not that noticeable or possibly I'm deluding myself. I'm going away this weekend so I'll do it then, but I probably get round to it once every month or so over the summer and not at all in winter.

blamber · 19/05/2014 17:22

The scan went well. All looks fine Smile. It still feels unreal though. How is that possible?

My due date has been brought forward by 5 days, so now it is 19 November. It's weird though, they think this is the most accurate date but I know for a fact that it is 5/6 days too early. Oh well.

I never wear dresses really. Are they really comfortable during pregnancy? If so, I might have to get some!

Annarose2014 · 19/05/2014 17:37

Hi all, i had a badly needed day off today so went to Primark and bought 2x maternity skinny jeans, in blue and black.

They're actually still a bit too big at the waist but I'd say will be perfect by 20 weeks. Only negative thing is the extreme tightness around the calves but in fairness I have calves like a Premier League footballer so thats my problem with most skinny jeans.

All they sell is jeans in my local one though - wish it was better!

Oh its heavenly having a day off to rest my weary old bones. Lay in bed watching the new Game of Thrones --highly illegally on
Couchtuner-- this morning with a big cup of tea. Bliss.

amy83firsttimer · 19/05/2014 18:11

blamber get thee into dresses. I have some summer dresses that are loose anyway but have ordered a maxi dress too and will probably buy a couple more. The feeling of nothing noticeable touching your tummy is the next best thing to naked I think.

utopian99 · 19/05/2014 18:53

Another vote here for maxis!
petal we're keen to Register for a private room this time - is it easy? Last time was fine and I just kept curtains drawn but there was a family (whose new mum didn't stay long) where the new grandfather kept peering round my curtains which annoyed me heartily!

utopian99 · 19/05/2014 18:55

Also meant to say with ds I worked right to term, doing major refurbishment of a house 9-5 hours. It's fine so long as you feel fine and remain aware of your overall state.

alita7 · 19/05/2014 18:59

Yes I have been looking at Ebay, I do need to trawl the charity shops too!

Blamber great news :)

Anna I found with the primark ones it's just the foot that was tight, not too tight but I better not get swollen feet!!

Petal26 · 19/05/2014 19:37

Glad all is well blamber

utopian They're called 'Amenity rooms' at our hospital, just had another look at the website. There's a form you have to fill out and post to the hospital to register your interest, seems easy enough. Will check with midwife next week at 16 week appointment before I do it (although she might not know much about it!)
