Here is to more positive 12 week scans and enjoying our second trimesters, all feeling more human hopefully!

Greenstone sign up for the Boden sample sale alerts. They have one at my local leisure centre like once a year or so and they're amazing! The amount of stuff I got for DD for a fraction of the price is unbelievable.

PosyFossilsShoes · 09/05/2014 12:14

I have no problem with pink glitter, it's enormous fun and as soon as my child is old enough to provide me with an excuse to enjoy it themselves, there will be glitter everywhere regardless of whether I have a girl or boy. Although one of my friends was reported to social services by some nosey old bat for letting her 4 year old son have a Disney princess costume.

I used to do one-to-one reading with children when I was in 6th form and the teacher whose class I went in to would occasionally send her entire class berserk by doing an animal book and referring to the animals as 'she' instead of 'he' - although the author had never indicated if they were male or female. Grin

With regard to adverts…. DP and I don't have a telly. My sis predicts that I will change my position on this as soon as I realise what a valuable babysitter it is. But I don't see why we can't have Peppa Pig (or whatever) on DVD or IPlayer…

alita7 · 09/05/2014 12:53

posy we have a TV but it's not plugged into the aerial so we can watch dvds and play xbox. dsd is fine with this and I hate adverts and watching inane tv, I like that we can't just sit and watch rubbish.

RandomInternetStranger · 09/05/2014 12:55

with kids tv channels I didn't mind cbeebies as it shuts down at 7 and they have some fantastic educational shows. I don't mind Milkshake as it's the only chance for a lie in at the weekend and I like Nick Jr for some of their cooler shows but it is on 24/7 so that's not for the evenings. DD only really watched a Baby Mozart while I was having a shower in the mornings up to a year, then it was the odd cartoon on a chill out day or while I was getting dinner out, then only weekends once she was at nursery then when school started she could watch one show a night after dinner and homework whilst I ran her bath and cleared the table. If it wasn't for Baby Mozart and her bouncer I wouldn't have showered for the first 6 months!Grin

mismylinford · 09/05/2014 13:17

I tried to keep my dd is something reasonably 'girly' is i got quite annoyed at people when they called her a boy (he's cute, how old is he ect) as buggy was neutral colour. I did keep her toys neutral but when i went back to work and she went to a nursery she chose ponies dolls and everything pink. I was a tom boy and played with power rangers and ghost busters. So buying dolls and playing mummies and babies is all very strange. But that what she likes.

weeonion · 09/05/2014 13:20

Its the commercialised advertising that gets me, as well as TV on the whole time they are awake as background distraction and noise. I of course have shoved it on when i thought i was losing my mind but DD never saw any TV at all before she was 2.

DD does see TV - but only stuff "on demand" with no adverts - loves Horrible Histories ( ahem - so does DP and I!!) and she has always "earned" TV for good behaviour. (alot of reward system-ing in our home).
She will get movies at weekends but is always PG or U rated stuff and not stuff like the barbie movies. She is big into musicals and scooby doo.

Was gobsmacked when my pal was allowing her DD to watch the Twilight Series at 6. I feel the same about alot of media (especially games)aimed at boys too - in terms of violence and aggression.

We do limit screen time for her - again it is linked to my work so hyper aware of alot of this.

anyhow - off to host the school Film Club which is showing .... "Frozen" this week. We have a 50 / 50 split of boys and girls for it and its one of our most popular to date - 60 kids out of a possible 150!!!! argh - am i wise???

PosyFossilsShoes · 09/05/2014 13:58

I really struggle to watch anything violent - even where it's meant to be funny. Lock Stock was about my limit. I'm looking forward to a few years of indulging in as many U and PG films as I like… until the bean hits the age where s/he will want to go and watch horror movies with DP!

alita7 · 09/05/2014 15:10

Has anyone got any cravings? so far I've on ans off craved ready meal chow mein and prawns.

but I'm finding if I eat a food I crave it makes me feel more hungry after, Instead of satisfied - is this normal?

PosyFossilsShoes · 09/05/2014 15:17

Dim sum!!!! Have been craving it for a few days and haven't had any yet. Need to find someone to hit Chinatown with (DP is veggie, and the veggie food in Chinatown is often cooked in fish sauce.)

Amyrose82 · 09/05/2014 15:46

Hot cross buns, the fresh bakery ones! I am rather fond of these normally but now I'm buying in bulk and eating several at a time straight out of the packet! Yum Grin

Alita I'm generally just more hungry all the time - my pre-pregnancy diet in the week while at work was porridge, fresh soup and lots of fruit but now (other than fruit which is still fine) this is totally bleugh! So it's sarnies, pasta, crisps, chocolate...

Weeonion I'm definitely going to have to go on a tkmaxx hunt for animal print babygros - did have a look round there the other week and there's loads of lovely stuff but I'm trying not to buy just yet!Grin

Anyone off to the Baby Show at the nec next weekend? Think I'm going to look at pram/pushchairs - it's a bloody minefield!

RandomInternetStranger · 09/05/2014 15:52

I can't believe it's the baby show next weekend! That seemed ages away when I first saw it advertised and I though I'd be properly pregnant by then! Grin

Horrible Histories is amazing! DD and I love it! Grin

I've not really had any proper cravings, didn't with DD either, but whereas with her I was very happy to stick to healthy food, now I'm finding that tough and I really miss everything I shouldn't have and have allowed a lot more treats than I should. I have asked mum to grab me some chocolate when she comes over later. Grin

PosyFossilsShoes · 09/05/2014 15:58

Quite tempted to go to the Baby Show. Should we try for a meet up?

TwigletFiend · 09/05/2014 16:04

Has anyone been before? I'm not sure whether I'd find it useful or utterly terrifying! I had to leave John Lewis on the verge of a complete break down after looking at the pushchairs at the weekend Confused

RandomInternetStranger · 09/05/2014 16:18

I've been a couple of times years and years ago. I liked them but then I can shop for Britain, I'm happy to window shop for hours on end and not buy anything and it was nice to be able to ask loads of questions, get loads of information and try products out. I would go now just to have a mooch around, but not to buy or even really get much information, I've got everything I need and I'm keeping the costs down as much as possible this time. My parents said they'd like to go to this one when I asked a couple of months ago but haven't mentioned it since. Might soo if my cousin with her newborn would want to come too. Smile

Hopeful83 · 09/05/2014 16:35

Sorry my phone has dropped me off the thread again so I'm just trying to get my phone to put me back on it. Hope everyone is well :)

alita7 · 09/05/2014 16:36

ill be go ogling nearer ones as Birmingham is a bit far!

Mathssssteacher123 · 09/05/2014 16:47

Has anyone been able to get hold of their midwife. Given all that's happened this week with the heavy bleed I have been calling mine and left two messages haven't heard anything back at all which I think is awful.
Just feel really down and I can't get excited about anything as I just worry something's not right.
Would just be interested on other peoples experience with their midwife so far

blamber · 09/05/2014 16:52

Twiglet I can imagine that being me when I get the courage to go look at prams. I'm so clueless and I always spend fes comparing different products for a bigger purchase. I'm really bad. I want to buy a car and am actually having nightmares. I just don't want to buy the wrong thing.

So my budget is quite limited and I might get a 3 door fiesta. Is that a mistake? It should be doable right, with a baby? Any experiences?

I'm also hungry a lot. I eat the most in the office. Even more than the guys! Before pregnancy I was fine with 3 meals a day but now my stomach grumbles at 11 and 4 as well.

PosyFossilsShoes · 09/05/2014 16:52

Not heard from mine and haven't tried to contact her.

Hospital are extremely abrupt if you try to contact them but I've only tried to rearrange an appointment, not called in with a crisis, so I'm hoping that they are abrupt with the little stuff in order to make time for the crisis calls.

blamber · 09/05/2014 16:53

Not fes, but ages.

blamber · 09/05/2014 16:58

Maths I called mine twice and she was out, but when I left a message with someone she called me back as soon as she was back in the office. I understand they're out a lot, but they should have a system where they can get back to you within a day.

My midwife is quite good. I wanted to know the tsh from the booking in blood test and she called the hospital straight away to find out. My tsh was 1 so I'm really happy with that.

mismylinford · 09/05/2014 17:18

Maths - how are you getting on with things? Hope its settled slightly. How frustrating that you can get hold of a mw. Does your hospital have an early pregnancy unit? That's where i was sent with my bleeding. I really know how you feel its horrible being in limbo.x
