auntie I agree with the others. Being too tired to travel is one thing but he/they probably meant it as a treat so telling him he was stupid was harsh. I think it's important that we all try to remember that it must eh frustrating for our DH's to see us so uncomfortable, and to try to think they're being kind.

It Is tiring though isn't it? I'm 33 weeks and utterly fed up, with big swollen feet, going to the loo every twenty mins, bored to tears with my clothes and turning like a rotisserie chicken every night to stop my hips aching. Stupid pregnancy.

BlueC2 · 25/05/2014 14:39

jasmine I had exactly the same thought re maxi dress and breastfeeding this morning-for those packing a maxi dress as going home outfit it's worth thinking about the style you choose as you don't want to be hoiking the whole dress up to feed if you get delayed leaving! So, a strapless one would be ok as you could just pull down one side to reveal boob, or something that you could just pull one side strap down to give boob access. I found at the beginning it was easier just to have whole boob out so more skin-to-skin for baby to encourage feeding. Obviously not so easy in public but fine in hospital/at home.

Speaking of maxi dresses though, I have one on today and it is utter bliss not having anything tight around my bump! Shame I only have 2 dresses so can't wear one everyday for remainder of pregnancy!

homeis I'm afraid the last few uncomfortable weeks do pass fairly slowly- I was SO ready for DS to appear when hid did at 3 days early-no idea how I'd have coped going overdue! A friend said this morning she has a feeling I won't go past 38 weeks-i like her lots and sincerely hope she's right :)

zing hope the move went well and new house starting to feel more homely! Sending housewarming Brew Cake and Thanks your way!

MrsA2 · 25/05/2014 18:49

Auntie I don't think you were that harsh (maybe a tiny bit), that is a long journey plus I'd be surprised if you could get insurance this far along?

Hospital bag is under way but I need to pull together toiletries and work out what I need to be specially. Picked up massive knickers and a navy nightie (which is so ugly, I hate it!) in Primark yesterday plus some navy pj/legging/lounging trousers that should be good for the first couple of weeks. Just about decent enough to pop to the shops in.

Hope everyone us enjoying three days off. It's been lovely and sunny here today so had a lively hour chilling with my Kindle in the sun. Just been to the gym, I felt a bit self conscious now I'm so big but enjoyed ten mins on the bike, five mins on the cross trainer and then a half hr swim. All very gentle but given that I'm in so much discomfort even walking slowly it was great to be able to do something.

Incapinka · 25/05/2014 18:50

I was 8 days over with DS. However he did make up for it by arriving in a rush. Whilst it can take a long time for your cervix to dilate the first time it can also happen very quickly - in my case 50mins Blush thank goodness my waters gave us some warning! It was like running a marathon at a sprint but I am not complaining!

You have also made me realise that I should actually start doing some buying of nappies and lansinoh and pads and stuff. I am too laid back (lazy!).

Had a wedding yesterday which was lovely but am shattered today. Also had words on the IM training. Struggling lots with it and do appreciate that DH really wants to do it but it's not helping that I run around all day after a toddler, he goes to work and comes back and has to head out training. In his defence he is willing to do this at a time that suits us however during the week there are not enough hours in the day to provide a convenient time. And it's 6 days a week. Feel better now I have blown my lid about it but there isn't a winning situation for either of us...

AuntieMaggie · 25/05/2014 19:31

MrsA I'd be surprised I my MW would let me go tbh - my blood pressure is still high and still being seen every other day. DPs parents frustrate me as they expect us to go visit them all the time but don't make the effort to come here very often and when they do can only spare DP a few hours so it was them suggesting it I was more annoyed with than DP passing it on iyswim. In the past few years we haven't had a holiday because all of DPs leave has been spent visiting them and we haven't been able to afford it as well as visiting them.

Did you get the navy nightie with the daisies on? I got that one and hoping comfort makes up for it!

We got loads of bits for baby today - toiletries, nappies, maternity pads, breast pads etc so I can start packing hospital bags :)

mummytobe I checked on the hospital food/meals situation today - in my hospital they don't provide any in the delivery suite until after labour when you have been moved to the main ward so you could be 14 hours (12 hours for dilation from 4cm to 10cm and 2 hours pushing) without proper food (though I am hoping to be quicker like Incapinka). May be worth checking the arrangements in your hospital but I've had friends in labour for days (though there are stories of their DHs meeting dominoes delivery drivers at the entrance!)

Maxi dresses I have a couple that would be ok for breastfeeding but am going to take back the 4 I bought last week that aren't Blush as I got carried away!

MrsA2 · 25/05/2014 20:21

Auntie I very nearly bought that one! I went for the same stile but with white dots in the end. I do think they'll be comfy.

With your blood pressure it's even more out of the question then. Your PIL sound hard work. I sympathise as mine are too (different issues but still hard work!). Frankly if they can't be bothered to make the effort when you are heavily pregnant/have a newborn then I don't think you should feel obliged to either.

Nursing maxi dress www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mamas-and-Papas-Essentials-Striped-Nursing-Maxi-Dress-Maternity-Clothes-/301148552086?pt=UK_Women_s_Dresses&var=&hash=item461dda3b96

Very cool, although don't know if can justify £37.50

mummytobejuly2014 · 25/05/2014 23:05

wish I was off tomorrow for bank hol. OH is off so im jealous & I have a full week of 6am-3pm with no hols/leave available to break the week up & will be training a complete moron to do my job. patience very thin without having to train said moron. tempted to bluff some medical appointments to get away slightly early to avoid thumping said moron. 11th june last day of work, feels like forever away!! sorry for the rant.

re hosp meals - what abt packing a john west tuna pasta thingy each or is that a bad idea? as well as snacky dried apricots, frozen water etc?

also is anyone doing the raspberry leaf tea/tablet thing yet for aiding second stage of labour?

icklekid · 26/05/2014 05:05

Ohhh boo to having to work today mummy hope your day goes quickly to make up for it!

jasmine I'm not even going to click on that link just in case. ..

auntie jealous of your shopping spree! I'm going to have to work up the energy to go in and buy big pants, nighty and a maxi dress somehow over the next few weeks to complete hospital bag. I could buy online but likely to spend more (not primark) and no idea of size...when can I get measured for nursing bra as only doing shopping trip once!! I have 36 weeks in my head?

incapinka I hope you and dh find a compromise/solution some how. I would be less than impressed right now too. Need to have conversation with dh about how often he will be able to go to the gym post baby- at the moment he goes 5/6 times a week and I go with him 4/5. Post baby when I can I want to go back but that means he will have baby so only one of us can each eve realistically...

So am on holiday in Devon, weather was ok yesterday just showers and a few sunny spells. We did a short walk however was very steep. Was a lovely pub half way round. I was determined to complete it as pre pregnancy would have been fine. Oh my hips and pelvis! The bed isn't very comfy anyway- sleeping on a blanket on top of matress...may have to swap that for a duvet tomorrow night. Didn't go to sleep until 11 as watching a film and was awake by 1.30/3/5.15...going to be shattered today. Need a chilled out day. I know dh will understand but hate that we can't do 'normal' things on our last child free holiday. Sorry for the moan ladies. ..

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 26/05/2014 06:36

No worries ickle - I feel your pain as I've been awake since half 3. Pregnancy insomnia must really be some kind of sick joke!

BlueC2 · 26/05/2014 07:54

Am with you all on the insomnia- I have to alternate between the sofa and bed every night as find changing locations helps with the insomnia, restless legs and general discomfort.

Re nursing bras be careful to allow space for a) boobs to balloon when your milk comes in b) fitting a breast pad (or 2) in there and c) the fact that your rib cage will start to contract again with baby gone. I was told with mat bras buy so you start on first hook and have space to expand but with nursing bras the opposite ie start on last hook with space to contract. There's also various different styles- ie Debenhams Miriam Stoppard (my fav) the cup unclips and drops down but leaves good full support with good sized hole to access nipple. Others have a more flimsy side support left and expose more of your breast (ie M+S). I found in general bra measurement staff pretty useless when it came to fitting for mat and nursing bras which was frustrating! If you want to wait til post birth you could just get some soft nursing sleep bras for the moment. HTH

So 2 years ago my gorgeous little DS was just an hour old!! Not sure where the time has gone! Do wish it would stop raining as it's messing up our birthday day out plans!! Strangely 2 years ago we were in the middle of a crazy heat wave and it was 30 degrees!

AuntieMaggie · 26/05/2014 08:56

nursing bras John Lewis told me 38 weeks for nursing bra.

mummy check with your midwife what facilities they have for food/drink - I read on.another thread that some places don't let you have hot water for a cuppa!

raspberry.leaf tea if you are going to try this please check with midwife first as its not recommended in certain situations and the evidence it works is mixed (one study linked it with c-sections). Don't forget its a powerful herb not just a fruit tea.

ickle hope your hips and pelvis are better today - mine are always worse after the event. If you can stand it a dip in the sea might help as ice is one recommendation to ease.pain....

I just realised I haven't got my tiara yet!

AuntieMaggie · 26/05/2014 09:00

Oh and happy birthday to your DS blue hope the weather is nice for you x

ismarah · 26/05/2014 10:58

As an alternative to maxi dress I've been thinking about just a strappy top, for instance like the bf ones in H&M and a big summery floaty maxi skirt. I have one that is basically one size as it has that sort of t-shirt material waistband you can fold into place, kind of like yoga pants IYKWIM.. I'm still wearing it now, at 35 weeks.

Seeing midwife Weds and consultant o'doom Friday. Can you tell I'm looking forward to this?

AuntieMaggie · 26/05/2014 13:47

Still waiting for the mw to turn up who was supposed to come this morning and all I have is an office number which is closed today.... argh!

Incapinka · 26/05/2014 17:41

Blue! Your DS shares a birthday with mine but he is 3 today! Had a fun filled day and we are both sat on the sofa half asleep now! Happy 2nd birthday to yours!

DH earning a brownie point at the moment as has gone to poo pick my horses field as I didn't have the energy. Result!

I think I started taking raspberry leaf tea at about this stage last time round... For me it seemed to work but whether it did who actually knows?!

Hope you are all enjoying bank hols
And that your MW turned up!

AuntieMaggie · 26/05/2014 18:06

MW turned up about 4 Hmm my bp is still up and infact she thinks its steadily increasing (not fecking surprised with being kept around waiting the last couple of times I've seen her!) and that in the next couple of weeks it'll get to the point where I'll need treatment and may have to go to hospital :( trying to relax to try and bring it down but worried about it.

BlueC2 · 26/05/2014 18:15

incapinka happy birthday to your DS too :) We've had a lovely day at a local farm place despite the grey weather. DS has had far too much fun and not enough sleep so is currently in madman mode running around upstairs at high speed before bathtime-thankfully DH on bath duty tonight and not me!! I was suitably careful at the farm to avoid touching any of the animals and sanitising my hands at every opportunity though it did mean I was predominantly on photo duty so only about 2 pics of me with DS as a result which is a bit of a shame. Think we may have sussed a good place to go during DH's paternity leave though as there's loads for DS to do-just hoping baby comes before school summer hols start though otherwise it will be crazy in there.

Going to try and tackle all the stuff dumped in the nursery tomorrow as DS with the childminder - will be such a relief when that's all clear!

BlueC2 · 26/05/2014 18:18

Maggie xpost. Sorry about the BP results- as you say, waiting around all day probably didn't help! Did the MW suggest anything you should or shouldn't be doing to help with it? Would reading good book or watching a film or relaxing bath help to calm you tonight?

Plateofcrumbs · 26/05/2014 20:53

Hello everyone - we're rapidly running out of space on this thread!

Busy weekend shuttling between visits from/to both sets of in-laws. Have got a late birthday present of a sewing machine from MIL - v excited and have visions of making lots of lovely things for the baby but am struggling to create a straight line at the moment, I think I'm doing something wrong! My mum was never at all crafty and we never had a sewing machine in the house so I'm learning from scratch.

ismarah · 26/05/2014 21:05

Plate try slowing down a bit (pretend you're doing 5mph rather than 60) and use the markers you hopefully have on the kit somewhere to indicate the width of the seam to keep you going straight, IYKWIM? Also make sure you're holding the fabric taut as you sew, especially if it's anything with any stretch in it. Your manual might also have lots of helpful info...

Auntie that's really rubbish of your MW! Hopefully your BP won't continue to get worse but at least they are monitoring you...it would be worse if it was completely unnoticed..

Happy birthday to DSs!

Plateofcrumbs · 26/05/2014 21:26

Thanks ismarah - I have re-threaded which seems to have solved the problem!

icklekid · 27/05/2014 03:20

auntie hope that you are able to rest for a few days to bring it down...

blue glad you had a lovely day I'm always taking photos/never in them too! Although at the moment very glad as every photo of me has huge bags under my eyes permanently- any good concealer recommendations?

Well after expecting a cloudy day dh and I headed to the coast- it was a gorgeous blue sky and so warm however I have totally burnt my right arm to a crisp...so painful! Blush coating it in moisturiser but going to have to cover it next few days!

Wide awake at 3am...what a surprise!

MrsA2 · 27/05/2014 07:59

Morning all. Not excited about work after three days off!

Auntie that's really poor of your MW to keep you hanging around all day.

Work are pushing for me to attend a meeting this week that's 2 hrs train journey away (plus 30 mins drive from home to the station), also a 15 min walk at the other end - not ideal as I can only hobble at the moment, muscle type pain under my bump (round ligament pain probably?). I'd be on my own, meeting people at their office at the other end. At 35 weeks today I just don't feel comfortable being that far away or having the very early start I'd need to get there, given that my sleep is already rubbish. Am I being pathetic?

icklekid · 27/05/2014 08:56

mrsa can you say no or do an online conference? I wouldn't want to do that on my own- would rather drive whole way but guessing its a long way/London based?
