Is time going fast for other people? It's not for me! I think I just feel safer when the baby is out. No worrying about movement etc, just being able to see they're ok.

That said I just had the HV round and got his red book! That makes it a bit more real....

fifi - I totally know what you mean, although there will still be so much to worry about once they are here, it feels like such a huge responsibility to be the only one who can really keep track of movements!

So exciting about the little red book though, gives me a reason to be excited about my health visitor appointment on Thurs...

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 13/05/2014 17:02

What's the health visitor appointment? is it something we need to organise?

Am totally unprepared Confused

lentilpot · 13/05/2014 17:15

liquidstate - I just got a phone call a few days ago saying the midwife had given my details to her and we should have a "catch up" before the birth, I suspect it's one of those things that varies from area to area or even health visitor to health visitor.

Plateofcrumbs · 13/05/2014 17:56

Just back from yet another consultant appointment (one of two this week!). More talk about ELCS - I clearly need to get my head round this as a realistic possibility. Either way I don't think my hippyish birthing centre dream is going to happen. Bah Sad

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 13/05/2014 18:12

Really don't want a CS if I can help it. Have been awake all night praying for a natural birth. Baby needs to gets its head down though.

Incapinka · 13/05/2014 18:18

Last time I got the red book at the hospital after I had the baby so think it differs from area to area.

Sorry to hear some of you are still suffering from sickness. And Coco try not to worry. As everyone has said 37 weeks is full term (I was born at 37 weeks as were my 2 brothers and we are all fine but it was 30 years ago when women were kept in hospital for quite a few days regardless). My DS was way overdue and was 7lbs (& i am 6' and DH 6'6) so 5lb for 37 weeks doesn't sound bad at all. Very annoying about the conflicting advice though.

All been rather manic here. Had Badminton horse trials on Friday organising a course walk for 90 and then walked about 8 miles. My poor legs went into shock at such exertion. Then the weekend was a hen do which wasn't much fun when you are the only sober person in the room and exhausted! But she enjoyed it. And now back to normal. DH either working or training and DS giving me plenty of exercise keeping him on the straight and narrow. 8 weeks in theory to go...

And to those packing bags. I salute you. Last time I packed when my waters went. I think I will probably end up doing the same again this time!!

ismarah · 13/05/2014 18:39

At what point are you 'nagging'? When you ask DH for the first time to do something or for the 15th?

At this point I'll do the bloommin thing myself!

So far, I have: decluttered HIS wardrobe, decluttered our bedroom, cleaned and sanded and repainted bedroom window, repainted our bedroom, decluttered understairs cupboard, chopped down a climber that is to be removed, degunked and replaced shower seal, done all the baby shopping so far and all the lists of stuff yet to be done, organised skips and workmen to demolish old garage, and decluttered 1/2 spare room.

I am yet to complete spare room declutter, clean, sand and repaint spare room window, reorganise living room to receive some of the clutter, finish baby shopping, go to Ikea, pack for hospital, and get garden to a state I will be happy to leave it in before my mother gets here.

Obviously this is on top of the usual housey / worky / shoppy things.

He did help me put a bunch of stuff into the loft. Bless.

mummytobejuly2014 · 13/05/2014 20:44

have GTT on fri even tho im not overweight, dreading it & have to spend near 3hrs in hosp for it with no phone signal & uncomfy plastic chairs. then my health visitor is coming on Monday lunchtime then mid afternoon the midwife appointment at gp surgery & a breastfeeding class at the hosp that night. midwife said health visitor is just to make themselves known& if you have any q's (I personally think its really to make sure you dont live in squalor/have millions of pets/prevent baby going home to an unsuitable environment) officially finish work on 13th june with baby due 11th july on paper but 5th by scans. wish I could finish sooner, struggling to sleep now& bump is MASSIVE!! hope everyone else is feeling better :)

BlueC2 · 13/05/2014 20:48

Have heard from DM and looks as though Gma not got long left :( thankfully she was still able to recognise DM when she got there but isn't able to get out of bed and isn't eating at all really (everything makes her sick) so we're praying that she doesn't have to suffer this for long and that DM can be with her at the end now even if she has to extend her stay a bit.

ismarah sorry to hear DH being useless at getting stuff done-try not to overdo it though

zing hope you've survived your time with DH away?

liquid I'm also v aware baby not even vaguely head down - I've asked for a home birth this time and trying hard not to think about possibility of a CS if baby decides to stay transverse

fifi669 · 13/05/2014 20:56

So is painting ok? There's so much different advice out there!

icklekid · 13/05/2014 21:51

fifi I'm feeling every day and still waiting for time to fly. Yes to painting as long as room ventilated- I found it tiring though so dh did most of it!

blue glad she got there in time hope that it is peaceful.

liquid thinking lots of positive baby engaging thoughts. Fairly sure mine is low today as walking has been hard work and painful down below! At 32 weeks this is slightly disconcerting!

AuntieMaggie · 13/05/2014 22:05

fifi I think it depends on the type of paint but I was advised not to do it and any painting had to be done at least 3months before baby arrives to get rid of the fumes properly - the room we painted at the start of April still has a whiff of paint now and then.

HV didn't give us a red book when she came 2 weeks ago... she did say some areas are visiting before baby arrives so they can plan what level of support families will need.

patchwork we were told pillows and also a towel too at the same time as remembering there isn't much room!

blue sorry it doesn't look good for Gma but pleased to hear that DM got there in time and that Gma can still appreciate her presence.

ismarah · 13/05/2014 22:19

I'm using emulsion paints (so water soluble) and using full PPE (well, mask and gloves - not goggles) and with a well ventilated room it shouldn't be an issue. I will admit I didn't ask anyone if I could or when I should have it done by - I just did it because it needed doing.

Blue Very glad for your mum's sake that she's there with your DGM - I've done those trips - and funeral ones - a few times. They never get any easier but it meant so much to me to have been able to do that when I wanted to.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 13/05/2014 22:51

Fifi honestly it's fine. Paint fumes in that amount won't hurt you or the baby. Think about it - painting the nursery is a tradition that every mother in generations before us has indulged in. I think the scare on painting is more to do with pregnant women falling off ladders than actual fumes. If they were toxic, the cans would be covered in warnings telling pregnant women not to use them, and telling the public in general to keep small children away from small children. But they don't, because there's no proven link to any damage.

Blue, glad your dm made it in time. These trips are never easy, but they can help put people to peace.

BlueC2 · 14/05/2014 09:09

Morning sickness seems to be back :( the joys... All I can say is roll on the next 8-9 weeks and let's get this baby out, getting rather tired of all these pregnancy niggles now!

fifi669 · 14/05/2014 09:26

The painting that needs doing is in the hallway and possibly the front room and bathroom.

DP and I are very amateur DIYers and although the hallway looks millions of times better than before we moved in, we were in such a rush it's quite sloppy.

The front room needs a lick of paint due to DS's artistic skills....

BlueC2 · 14/05/2014 11:48

fifi can you afford to get someone in to do it for you? Providing you keep the area/house well ventilated you should be fine.

I just burst into tears in the park with DS - just SO exhausted after another bad night and now feel sick with it too so hadn't the energy etc to stand pushing the swings anymore but DS obviously didn't want to come home cue toddler meltdown :( I'm desperate to sleep when DS naps this afternoon but can't as I have urgent work to get done (and since I haven't managed to really wear DS out this morning I'm dubious at whether he's gonna sleep long enough for me to get it done!). Just another one of those days!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 14/05/2014 11:57

So far since march we have painted the hallway, nursery, spare bedroom, bathroom, our bedroom, all woodwork, ceilings and 3 lots of new built in wardrobes. Installed new bathroom and carpet has been laid. Phew. I didn't do much of the painting as my FIL did most of it but was at home at the time. no PPE.

Hoping this was not a mistake Confused.

Plateofcrumbs · 14/05/2014 12:59

I did a load of painting earlier in the pregnancy too - I did try to stick to low-VOC paints (most emulsion paints fall into this this category). Some work with gloss paint and some specialist metal paint with higher VOC I left to DH - frankly I don't think there's any serious risks to speak of, it was just a good excuse to get out of a bit of DIY Wink. Plus it was first trimester so was generally feeling bit bleurgh.

I'm expecting to do a bit more painting before baby arrival - I'm definitely starting to get a bit of a nesting bug! I bought an old Ikea Poang rocker on ebay (£8!) as a feeding chair for the nursery which I intend to paint and re-cover. I'm taking this one as my inspiration, although my lack of craft skills mean it's unlikely to look that professional!

BlueC2 · 14/05/2014 15:57

plate the Poang chairs make great feeding chairs - I've just got two from eBay (£15 for both!) so can have one downstairs too. I hadn't thought of painting the frames but the one on the link you posted looks great in grey! There's loads of replacement covers on eBay in various designs (I like the Orla Kiely ones!) if you run out of time, though for now I've just draped a £2 fleece from Ikea over mine as means it's easy to whip off and wash if needed!

Have managed to get the super urgent bits of my work done though won't get everything finished. DS been such hard work today-not sure what's got into him!

ZingWatermelon · 14/05/2014 16:07

Too much to read back, hope everyone's ok.
I'm not going to be around much for next 2 weeks because of moving - but I'll pop in when I can.
(Just saying, I don't want my lovely friends to worry!Smile)

Blue

Thanks, it was ok.
he is away tonight again and the two younger ones have been beyond awful.
