ickle take it easy and don't over do it (says she...)

yay pixie:)

BlueC2 · 03/05/2014 14:12

Well done with all the cleaning ladies but please try not to overdo it.

pixie great news that all is well :)

zing hope room planning going well- I love doing that sort of thing!

I slept badly again last night and have had a stinking headache all day but trying to push through and get stuff sorted to move DS into his new room today. DH being a pain though and just not understanding that watching a DVD with him just isn't the same as having a proper afternoon nap -grrr I need sleep- and now my headache is worse after getting stressed at him!

ZingWatermelon · 03/05/2014 14:17

plate

I was going to say to give him chocolate, but take fifi's advice, much more sensible!

And remember to make a fuss of the toddler before looking at baby. It will make him feel very special - older kids feel left out when the visitor rushes in focusing on baby.
(just reminds me of Cruella De Ville "where's are the puppies?!"Grin )

not that you'd ignore the older one.
but they get so proud when they are made to feel important! Smile

Blue

I took lots photos, measurements, looked in cupboards, noted where all radiators are, checking lots of details.

it was fun. I'm even more excited now!Smile

Tesco now, then lazy afternoon - now that I have all the info we need I can relax.
we'll go through it a few times no doubt with DH over the next few days - but now my brain just needs a break from it all.

A yippe for mtpg on signing contracts. Grin

MrsA2 - I know that feeling about getting internet back after moving!

Waiting for in-laws to arrive immanently! They are staying for a week while the childminder is on holiday!

Oh and we are on day 3 of potty training DS. Yesterday we had 4 accidents before 9am. I am hoping the influence of Grandma will encourage him!

Loads of exciting news over the last few days. I'm a bit spoilt on the cleaning front as we have a cleaner already. Couldn't quite rely on DH as my and his standards are worlds apart when it comes to cleanliness and tidiness. Not sure I'll be able to justify the cost once I'm on mat leave though :(

Had quite a busy day today starting with pregnancy yoga, load of shopping but managed to finish with a pedicure and a haircut so all is good.

Really sorry for everyone still feeling sick - not sure I could cope with it. I got off quite lightly and still felt really sorry for myself.

Anyone else fancying pimms and lemonade? I treated myself to a half measure one last night and really felt like summer is finally here.

BlueC2 · 03/05/2014 20:12

Slumped in an armchair trying to summon up the energy to get the washing in off the line- suspect I have overdone it (yet again!) as my head pounding again and I am exhausted BUT DS is in his new room!! Am so so pleased with how it's turned out plus he was genuinely v excited to go to bed (and is still excitedly chattering away to his teddies!). So the nursery is now vacated though is a total dumping ground for stuff I need to sort through.

Hope everyone has enjoyed the sunshine-will try and do a proper catch up later.

PS DH redeemed himself by letting me finish off the tub of cookie dough ice cream at dinner :)

ismarah · 03/05/2014 21:31

So NCT was interesting this morning. Despite DH's fears, our instructor was pretty matter of fact and there was no moss anywhere.

Weirdly, it made me think that if I can't get an approved C section because they think it's not medically required, I might turn that round and ask if I even need consultant-led care then. The midwives I've dealt with have been much nicer than the obgyn medical staff who have inspired zero confidence in me for an obs led birth that's not a section, I'm starting to wonder if a midwife led ward would be better.

Very confusing day!

Plateofcrumbs · 04/05/2014 00:24

That's all very interesting ismarah but what snacks did everyone bring? Wink

I know what you mean though, there's something that feels a bit 'unhappy medium' about the standard labour ward idea. Or is it 'best of both worlds', I can't make up my mind.

I'm slightly nervous that the more NCT etc preps me for VB the more I'm getting invested in the idea and would then feel cheated out of it if ELCS is recommended. Am trying to keep open mind.

icklekid · 04/05/2014 04:58

Thanks mummy will invest in that dettol cleaner for next time Thanks

So I then spent the rest of the day gardening with my mum which was nice but did over do it...never mind!

New medicine does seem to be working though, only sick in eve but am actually hungry and able to eat which is amazing after months of cereal for tea!

Yes to wanting to know what snacks please ismarah?

plate interestingly I thought I would be the same but although I now at least understand vb our nct lady is quite good at knowing stats for cs and so makes it clear not to put pressure on self for any idea of a 'perfect' birth!

MrsA2 · 04/05/2014 07:25

Ickle that's fantastic that the medicine seems to be helping! I can't imagine how tough that is still feeling sick.

A hectic day spending too much money yesterday on curtains, furniture, duvets and general new house stuff, plus a couple of baby bits. This morning we are off to look at travel systems - I feel bad that I'm 31w5 and still haven't got one (or really even a short list of preferred options). Even if we don't buy today I at least want to know we could order online quickly if we needed to.

ZingWatermelon · 04/05/2014 07:48

ickle

that's great that new meds work, I'm glad you could eat some proper food.

I'm guessing you will not plan to do this pg malarkey 6 more times then?Wink Grin

ismarah

did they bring pombears?

and ickle I agree, there's no such thing as "perfect" birth.

icklekid · 04/05/2014 07:57

Thanks mrsa and zing I dream of a day when I won't feel nauseous/be sick!!! For now this is much better Grin

I hope you find an exciting pushchair that you like mrsa I think there is only so much time you can look/research before just making a decision!

zing I have said 1 more...that is all. And if it is as hard work as this pregnancy I shall not be working! Also how did you make the bear? Bear although Dragon wins!

Plateofcrumbs · 04/05/2014 08:42

V glad you're feeling a bit better ickle!

The NCT teacher is actually very good and isn't selling us the 'perfect birth' thing. And I don't feel overly worried about EMCS etc - whatever happens on the day happens. It's more ELCS and not getting the chance to try which I'm worried about.

Anyway, not overly concerned, just thinking out loud. It's not even like ELCS has been raised as a serious possibility so far.

hannahlucyellen · 04/05/2014 08:54

Apologies for the scatter gun approach, but some thoughts that have been in my pregnant brain this week:

  1. Does anyone else have lots of people giving them 'advice'? It's starting to get really old. I said my friend was having a hen party in Ibiza next year, (just a long weekend, and my baby would be about 10 months old). Lady at work decided to tell me 'You won't go' well let me decide please!!! You see she has a baby so knows better. Also the people telling me my bump is very big for 28 weeks (it's not, I'm measuring under).
  1. Is anyone else doing the hynobirthing meditations? I'm finding them incredibly relaxing! Although I'm not signed up to a proper class, is anyone else going alone and doing the book and CD themselves?
  1. I don't know how to sensitively ask this question, but I experienced a missed miscarriage last year, and was induced as it wasn't passing naturally. My question is, whilst this was painful, is there a comparison between these contractions and proper labour contractions?
Plateofcrumbs · 04/05/2014 09:27

Hi hannah

  1. Mercifully I've not been getting too much 'advice' - well actually a bit but I just ignore it! Passing comments don't bother me - I smile and ignore them.
  1. Yep - just hypnobirthing CD and book for me so far, enjoying it! Although haven't totally ruled out doing a class too (assuming not having ELCS).
  1. Sorry about your MMC Flowers. I've no direct experience I'm afraid. Midwife told me that an induction in that kind of situation would be less intense/painful than labour at full term, but she was trying to reassure me at time so maybe she would say that!
Plateofcrumbs · 04/05/2014 09:34

Anyway I was just popping back to say I just found out aperol is only 11% Abv so I need to buy some more alcohol-free fizz then I can drink spritz practically guilt-free. I LOVE spritz (since before they were trendy I'll have you know Wink )

AuntieMaggie · 04/05/2014 09:56

Morning ladies :)

Interestingly I'm becoming more reassured that I'm going to be giving birth at the consultant led unit as opposed to midwife led after hearing recent birth stories of some where they've ended up being transferred after 20 hours of labour in some cases and then having discovered they would always have needed a c-section and the midwives had missed big problems.

plate have they mentioned what the risks may be of a VB?

In my area they aren't overly keen on ELCS so if they suggest this to me I may just go with it (whereas I can see if your hospital has a habit of recommending them that you would be more cautious) especially given that a) it would be preferable to hours of labour then an EMCS and the effect that would have on me and baby and b) it would minimise the risk of my health issue becoming a problem and me needing medical intervention for that which could take me away from baby after its born as it would need treating on a completely different ward and possibly mean more invasive surgery. I'm trying to focus on the fact that I want this baby healthy and that I will habe it for life and that how it gets here is such a small part of that.

ZingWatermelon · 04/05/2014 10:15

hannah

sorry about your MC.Thanks yes, induced or natural MC can be horribly painful and for the people I know who had both MC like that and gave birth reported that it was almost like properly giving birth - as in the contractions (1 phase of labour)

(you don't push a massive head out so the pushing stage is of course different)

are you worried about the pain or thinking you are ok, because at least you know what to expect?

  • advice and comments on bump etc are bloody boring and insulting and offensive and annoying.
think if it as training, it will be worse when baby is out!Grin

Off to the Mayfair today, roped in DP (dragging him from study) to entertain DS on the rides I can't go on. It'll be nice to be out as a family, we always seem to be too busy to actually do anything together.

hannahlucyellen · 04/05/2014 10:21

plate I haven't ruled out a class yet either, but just about to move to a completely different area (7 hours away!) so going to see what's on offer in the area.

I should just smile and ignore them, I know people don't mean to be malicious!

I've not had a chance to catch up on previous posts, but hope you get what you want with your birth! A friend of mine just had an EMCS after pre-eclampsia and had nothing but good things to say about it all, things considered!

I agree with Aunite I'm keen to end up with a healthy baby, if I need an epidural or EMCS then so be it! If men gave birth I wonder if they'd beat themselves up the same way that women seem to?

ismarah · 04/05/2014 10:36

Snacks were oddly lots of popcorn! Everyone brought it for some reason. Also caramel bars and some crisps. I brought Mrs Crimble coconut choc macaroons and date bars - DH is gluten averse...

Mistimed my vitamins yesterday and woke up screaming with the leg cramps that wouldn't go away. Not best pleased.

As the hospital we will be in is a large central one, transferring from the midwife unit to the obs unit is a matter of being wheeled down / across a corridor. So I'm not worried about that aspect if it came to it. One of my concerns (if we can't have the C section) is that in the absence of suitable pain relief, I'd like as active a labour as possible, even using the pool or at the very least a shower. From the different set ups I've seen, that's more likely to happen in a midwife unit, whereas the obs unit is more? likely to have you strapped to a fetal monitor which limits your movement to lying on your back, something I can't do.

So so confused. At least until Friday, I guess.
