congratulations on all these lovely squishy newborns!

I'm also after some advice... I'm having trouble
bf, we've had ds1 tongue tie snipped, & now because he's slightly jaundiced he's lazy and wont work too hard for his milk, plus my nipples are quite flat and its becoming excruciating. Not sure whether to express and bottle feed, or to bottle feed formula? Going to mw today, just after some mn opinions! I'm also conscious that he needs a little bit of feeding up cos he's so little,& I'm worried he's not getting enough from the breast as he's constantly hand sucking. I started a thread in the bf topic too with a few more details! Grin Smile

dobedobedo · 04/05/2014 09:48

Congratulations impatiently that's a lovely birth story. Sorry to hear about the tear though. Sending you virtual witch hazel and frozen maternity pad vibes Wink!

It's hard to believe that just 40 weeks ago today, DH said to me "Oh come on! It will be the last shag of my 20s..." Grin Imagine I'd just told him to feck off and went to sleep - I wouldn't be on this crazy journey with you lovely ladies!

39+2

dobedobedo · 04/05/2014 09:52

potato I don't know anything about tongue tie, but the only bf advice I'd know to give would be to "room in" with your baby. Go to bed for a few days, topless, constant skin to skin, feed on demand, eat loads of whatever food you like (carb it up!), drink loads, watch box sets and do nothing else.

Hopefully someone on the feeding board can give you more targeted advice! I'm just realising how much I don't know!

Choppa · 04/05/2014 10:44

Hey potato. It can be really tough at first. With DS1 I had similar problems to those that you describe and basically you have to get the latch right. Also a sleepy/ lazy baby won't get any better if you don't get some milk into him...it can be a viscous cycle.

You could try expressing some milk and cup feeding to give him some energy if you really want to continue feeding him from the breast. Otherwise you can express and bottle feed him with the option of going back to the breast when he is stronger...but this isn't always easy as baby gets used to the bottle.

I never really was able to get the latch right and so the pain continued and I ended up pretty much expressing all feeds for DS 1 until he was 4 months old. It was tough as you spend a lot of time pumping!! It was a halfway house for me but with hindsight (a wonderful thing) I would have dealt with the root cause (poor latch) and tried to continue feeding from the breast. You should get an expert to help with the latch ( if it's really hurting then there is something wrong) try the la Leche league or via midwife/ hv.

I'm sure someone else on the feeding thread can give you more comprehensive advice and I would also support what dobe said above about rooming in xxx

moobaloo · 04/05/2014 11:33

Wow impatiently!!! Huge congrats and what a lovely birth story! Enjoy the squishy newborn and hope the tear heals soon!

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and symptom spotting like mad! Just felt a bit uncomfy in a period pain way accompanied by a hard bump for about a minute and got all excited but nothing since.

Still, I've got my second ante natal class on Saturday and I'm the most pregnant one there, they all said "see you next week! Maybe!" When I left yesterday haha I've told them if I pop during the week I'll take baby in and they can use him for the practical lol!

Good luck to everyone having babies!

MasterFlea · 04/05/2014 12:12

Great birth story Impatiently So lovely to hear. Congratulations.

Choppa I've banned DH from drinking since I turned 37 weeks. I've been off it for 9 months, 4 weeks isn't going to kill him and he agrees.

I inadvertantly gave him a heart attack. I heard DD2 getting up and crying so I automatically hopped up. Realised it is his job as bump doesn't allow me to rush anywhere so started shaking him awake. Of course he thought it was the baby coming and panicked. He, he!

Potato I also think Dobe's advice is very good. Have you tried nipple shields either? I've heard they are good for flat nipples and when the nipples are sore.

CurlsLDN · 04/05/2014 14:57

Afternoon everyone, I'm being induced today! Went in for further bp checks and it's climbed again, plus protein in urine, so they've decided today is the day.

I'm just on the labour ward now, waiting to be examined and have the pessary put in. My SIL texted me to say she was trying to explain the procedure to my brother and told him 'they will give her a patisserie'. I bloody wish!!

Fingers crossed for some speedy action

dobedobedo · 04/05/2014 15:00

Good luck curls! Can't wait to see baby pics! Xxx

loopylou52 · 04/05/2014 15:03

OMG good luck curls!! Hope all goes quickly and smoothly!

Bezzabelle · 04/05/2014 16:18

Good luck curls! I am so torn between wanting this baby now especially when I hear of all the babies arriving but then also wanting to savour another couple weeks of not being sleep deprived (apart from wee breaks but usually can go back to sleep quite quickly!) and enjoying time with ds. Am intrigued to see if this baby will look like his big brother though....

MoominAndMiniMoom · 04/05/2014 16:39

Good luck Curls!!!! Sending speedy vibes your way!

moobaloo · 04/05/2014 16:41

Good luck curls! Xxx

Vikks · 04/05/2014 16:56

All the best Curls, newborn snuggles are right around the corner! Grin x

kally195 · 04/05/2014 17:06

Good luck curls!

Hmmm. Braxton hicks which were getting painful (and very strong) today, with a bit of what I would describe as period pain. No other signs that I've noticed. For those of you who have had babies already, how long before action stations did that start happening?

My NCT course leader kept looking at me in a worried manner today - apparently she wasn't sure I'd make it through the day!

mummytobe88 · 04/05/2014 18:51

Good luck curls!!

kally I started getting the odd period pain on Monday afternoon about 12ish and by 11.15pm ish they were coming every 8-9 mins. They progressed pretty quick to every 4 mins by 2.30am when I went to hospital and has my baby girl at 13.36pm on Tuesday Smile.

Hope this is the start for you!

Have we had any news from samba yet?

Choppa · 04/05/2014 18:55

Good luck Curls!

Kally...with ds1 period type pain started for me about mid morning and then ramped up to regular contractions through the afternoon, he was born at 10pm. Took me a few hours to realise that there was a pattern and 'this is it'!! I didn't have many other signs before this

PotatoPolly · 04/05/2014 19:29

Good luck curls!!

We've made the decision to ff from now on, I'm not sure mixed feeding is the way for us, and we can't go on bf with me feeling like I am, I'm like one big walking hormone as it is, let alone with no sleep and feeling like a zombie!

Ds is very settled this evening, lots of sleeping, and I'm feeling a lot better knowing the decision is made, I feel a lot more in control and happy with my decision.

Now I just need advice on what to do with my huuuuugely full boobies please!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 04/05/2014 19:51

Potato As soon as I'd decided to switch to ff fully and not to try bf again, I expressed as much as I could out of them. Then it was time for tight bra, breast pads, lansinoh and cabbage leaves! Although it's been three weeks and milk supply seems to be getting heavier so maybe my advice isn't the best Grin

I'm really glad you're happy with the decision you've made - it was like a big weight off for me too, I was dreading the next feed every time.

ohdearitshappeningtome · 04/05/2014 21:20

I've spent the day crying. Because of a way a friend has been with me recently, I haven't got the energy to deal with her and she's pushed me away so much now I can't deal with it, she's been amazing to me over the years but she's so hot and cold and this is the way it is - I won't contact her until she contacts me that way I know she wants to talk etc! Truly gutting but I can't argue or fight to keep her friendship I just don't have it in meHmmHmmHmm

JodeyP · 04/05/2014 22:21

All the best Curls. Hope everything goes smoothly for you x

Ohdearitshappeningtome, sounds awful and just not the stress you need to be dealing with at this time. I hope she gets in touch and you are able to sort things out.

I've also had an emotional weekend. I took my engagement and wedding ring off last Wednesday and left them on the side in living room. They have now gone missing! We have literally torn the house upside down looking for them. DH even saw them on the side on Thursday and the only people who have been in the house are our cleaners. Obviously we can't accuse anyone but I'm so upset and just know I'll never see my rings again. Spent virtually all of yesterday crying in secret as didn't want my DS to see me upset. To me, the rings are my memories and are irreplaceable. Gutted ??.

rebeccax2 · 04/05/2014 22:29

Oh no joey that's terrible! How awful. I hope you find them again.

And ohdearitshappeningtome I totally know where you're coming from. I fell out with a friend in the last few months and it's really upset me. She was the one I really wanted to count on in my pregnancy and I can't :-(

Good luck curls - everything crossed for you!

I've had a really up and down day. Very very tired today didn't get out to do my daily walk or even a bit of ball bouncing. Just been watching the snooker and feeling sorry for myself. Damn CTS. It's really the worst!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 04/05/2014 22:43

While his mummy is an emotional wreck my lovely little boy is marvellous! Now on 4 oz and tomorrow he is 21 days old !!:-)

ClearlyMoo · 04/05/2014 23:15

Sending unmumsnetty hugs to all those in need.

Kally. I hope this is the start for you but I've had strong BH that made me want to swear and stopped me in my tracks, womb tightenings, backache and so on for 4 weeks now. Sometimes they happen every 10mins for an hour or so then ease again.

As for me, I'm 39+1 today. already annoyed by the "how are you" texts even tho hardly anyone in real life knows our due date!

HELP! Anyone else suddenly got extremely breathless?! I'm lying in bed on my left side and panting like I'm walking briskly. I was fine much of the day - kids club at church/ lunch with inlaws/stacks of ironing/cuddles with DH but this eve whilst watching TV from a variety of arm chair/sofa/dining chair / ball trying to get comfy I've got more and more breathless. I've been lying down for 20mins and not improved. Is this just baby taking all my lung space? Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

CurlsLDN · 05/05/2014 00:38

Thanks for all the kind thoughts everyone!

I'm trying to get some sleep but am on a little ward of 4 beds, and it's quite noisy. Plus for the last two hours I've been having regular waves of sharp back pain, could be the contractions starting! I know they're coming to check my bp again in 1.5 hrs so I'm just trying to snooze a bit until then.

JuniorMint · 05/05/2014 00:51
