Ohdear that is not you being precious, the woman lacked basic hygiene manners. One does not cough in anyones face. (Gavel). Especially a cutie little baby.

Good luck Cbeebies

MoominAndMiniMoom · 02/05/2014 10:59

ohdear I'm going with the school of "no such thing as precious when it's your PFB". It's how I'm justifying getting twitchy when people hold Callie, and my passive aggressive tone when people ask how old 'he' is when she's dressed all in pink Angry

Eeeee good luck cbeebies!!! Hope it's a quick one for you!

Those of you who have popped/are ready to and want a glimpse of the future, we have a thread in postnatal now!

MasterFlea · 02/05/2014 11:09

Strange bit of trivia for you. It is common practice for enemas to be done when labouring in Finland. I'm opting out of it this time as it makes me very ill.
DH asked me today if I was going to get it and I told him NO. He then played devils advocate and I ended up crying. It is my body and I'm the one pushing. Get on my side FFS. He was the same last time when I decided I'd go drug free. You'd think he'd have learnt by now.

So there's my rant. Nice to tell someone. And I've been having natural clearouts for the past 4 days so maybe i'll be in the 25% of having baby during week 38.

dobedobedo · 02/05/2014 12:14

master they offer them here in blighty too, only if you're a bit bunged up though. Bleugh. I'm gonna keep having my bran flakes and fruit smoothies instead, thanks very much!

I've been sitting on this birthing ball for so long, my arse is numb. I don't think I'll be able to stand. Confused

loopylou52 · 02/05/2014 12:22

Used to be standard practice here too masterflea, along with pubic shaving. Glad they're not anymore!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 02/05/2014 13:04

I went to register mini me this morning at sure start and the receptionist woman said how old is she!!!! My son looks like a boy even if he has lovely
Hair !!

MasterFlea · 02/05/2014 13:43

That is interesting Dobe and Loopy. I've been doing a bit of googling on it, to give out to DH when he gets home, and there is no proof that it helps anything.

sambababy · 02/05/2014 14:06

cockwomble Grin You'll be pleased to hear that no papayas were injured during the cockwomble choir yesterday.

Good luck today cbeebies! So excited for you!!

clearly what a horrible situation for your mum Sad hope her friend will be ok.

Baby girls here almost always have their ears pierced. My LO with no pierced ears no matter the sex and mostly gender neutral clothes is going to confuse everyone lol!

MrsFooCough · 02/05/2014 14:52

samba I think my attitude to pierced ears will confuse my DH's family, his massive cohort of cousins and their offspring (his mom has 3 sisters and a brother, each has at LEAST 1 child, some have 3 or 4 and all of THEM bar about 1 or 2 have got kids of their own) all seem to have pierced their kids' ears, even the boys, by about age 10...I always wanted mine done but had to wait until I was 16, then I had them done and got second piercings done within a year and now I rarely use any of them! So I reckon ours will be a "wait until you can pay for it yourself" haha cruel parents eh!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 02/05/2014 15:22

My feelings on ear piercing is that I won't get Callie's done until she's wanted them for more than a year, understands that it could hurt and is old enough to look after them herself - the last one alone rules it out until she's about ten, I reckon Grin I had mine done the summer before secondary school. This is to avoid situations like a friend of mine in secondary school, who insisted to everyone that would listen that she was born with her ears pierced Hmm . It later turned out that she'd had them done at about six weeks old, but her mum felt guilty and told her she'd been born with them Shock she was so embarrassed when everyone found out.

The inks to do Callie's footprint and handprint have arrived :) then we can put them in her baby book, and also I can get my tattoo design finished. A sprig of holly, her name and date of birth and her footprint :) Not sure where to get it - was considering somewhere on my waist, but having seen how the stretchmarks from this pregnancy have changed my scissors tattoo, I've got to re-think that one.

dobedobedo · 02/05/2014 15:52

master I think one of the pitfalls of having a dh who is very interested in the whole pregnancy/birth process is that they have opinions unnecessarily! My dh has been reading books, has opinions on types of pain relief, types of labour, he's a bit of a breastfeeding militant... I've told him. "sweetie I agree with you but you do as you're damn told when I'm giving birth or you can get out!"

It's us going through it at the end of the day. And yes, I've told him I don't want an epidural and I'll be breastfeeding, but if I change my mind at any point and he tries to challenge me, especially when in labour? God help him! [axe emoticon]

sam It must be weird cos I know in Brazil all baby girls get their ears done. I'm dead against ear piercing kids, I think it looks awful. Mind you, I had mine done when I was six and wanted them done. I think ear piercing in boys looks even worse than girls. Unless you're George Michael or some cool rock/surfer dude, it just looks quite chavvy!

randdom · 02/05/2014 16:34

I am sure that someone has mentioned this before but I can't remember what they said. Has anyone had an antenatal visit from the health visitor before? If so what happened? I have mine next week and I am not exactly sure what to expect!

ClearlyMoo · 02/05/2014 17:22

Random. HV visit very low key. She just popped round to introduce herself and check you know about BF, you've got somewhere safe to put baby, you know how many blankets to put over it and I guess to sort of check out that you're not bringing baby home to a flea infested crack den. It was about 40mins but think mind was quicker as I kept telling her everything I knew from NCT classes didn't offer her a cuppa and was keen for her to leave as she arrived 1hr10 late and I was off out to meet my Mum for lunch!! She didn't look upstairs or anywhere really. Quite friendly/low key and told me I'd have a giant baby. Thanks lady!

They are quite persistent. In then last two days I have had four phone calls trying to book a visit and then two today to confirm it. I feel a bit paranoid that they are chasing me this much... some women haven't even finished work at this point!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 02/05/2014 18:21

It's not rolled out nationwide yet antenatal visit, I had my visit 4 days after I got home from hospital! She is lovely!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 02/05/2014 18:39

I met my health visitor two weeks after Celyn was born. She's lovely :)

hobbjobb · 02/05/2014 18:59

randdom my HV was really nice, she just came in, refused tea and we chatted for about half an hour in my front room, she didn't want to look around at all. She checked I wasn't being subjected to domestic violence, that we had somewhere for the baby to sleep and we knew the position and that we weren't drug/alcohol dependent. She also asked about past mental health/depression and spoke a bit about PND.
all very relaxed nothing to worry about at all

moobaloo · 02/05/2014 19:11

I cancelled my first HV appointment because I hadn't finished work and couldn't make it, re booked for when I had finished and that was fine with them. She was very nice, didn't want to tour the house, chatted about what Hvs do and what to expect, chatted about bf, checked I had support from partner and family etc. Gave me a health record book for baby in which to record weight and length, vaccinations, illnesses etc. And left some leaflets. All over in under an hour, you'll be fine!

Moomin, baby footprints! Aww! You're making me broody lol

Oh dear, I would've socked the germy lady in the face! (Violent hormones!) Or at least whizzed my PFB out of her way whilst giving her a dirty look!

Dobe, my dp avoids reading so only knows what I've told him, although he does ask lots of questions which is nice knowing he's so interested! I've already told him not to disagree with me in labour though if he knows what's good for him!

LongTailedTit · 02/05/2014 19:23

I saw my new HV this week too, v nice lady, v sensible about all the baby stuff and friendly etc, checked we knew about sleeping on back etc, however she did piss me off somewhat re DS1 - she kept suggesting I find a local autism support group or similar Hmm, he hasn't been diagnosed as autistic, FGS, he's just about to turn 3, there's no need to label him just yet!! She's going to get the nursery nurse lady to come to see if there's any advice that can help me deal with DS1's power struggles more challenging behaviour, so maybe that'll be helpful.

I haven't read back thru the thread I'm afraid, bit sleepy here!
DS2 is still absolutely lovely, 2wks old yesterday, but he's had real trouble feeding and hasn't yet regained his birthweight. He was v slowly losing weight, so the midwives were worried, even tho the total loss was less than 5%.
His tongue tie was snipped on day 5, but altho it improved the pain for me, his feeding actually got worse while he adjusted to his 'new' tongue. We've since been back to the lactation consultant and seen her with her cranial osteopath colleague who found he had a very short ligament in his jaw that was preventing him from sucking effectively. She 'loosened' it, and ever since he's fed much better. Had his third midwife weighing yesterday and has finally started gaining weight - woohoo! :)
4th weighing next Tues, fingers crossed he's back to birthweight so they can sign us off.

Will read the thread later if I can keep my eyes open, hope all are well and managing your last few weeks ok xx

MoominAndMiniMoom · 02/05/2014 19:34

OMG! One of the essays I had real trouble with back in February - I think there were even tears about it - I've had the marks back for it - I got a first for the practical and two marks off a first for the essay Grin it means I've passed that module with one mark off a first overall!!!

Now just got to hope I've passed the other four modules Hmm including the one I submitted Wednesday... Shock

ohdearitshappeningtome · 02/05/2014 20:02

Wahooooo moomin !!!! GrinGrinGrin

dobedobedo · 02/05/2014 22:02

LTT Hopefully feeding gets easier from now on. You must be knackered, bless ya!

moomin that's great news, well done!

I'm in bed now. Have had BH on and off all day, some are painful, some aren't. Not very regular either. Wish this baby would piss or get off the pot! All this teasing with false labour is doing my head in!

I just want to meet him now!

Nighty night ladies! X

LongTailedTit · 02/05/2014 23:12

Thanks dobe! Tbh in comparison to DS1 this all feels like a walk in the park, so so different this time! I even started a thread ages ago about how I was bricking it about DC2 being as hard as DS1, so this is all rather delightful - I know he's only 2wks old, but honestly, I'm actually enjoying it all so far. :)

Thanks moomin well done! Bloomin impressive!

Chip86 · 02/05/2014 23:36

LTT hope all is going well now
