Hi Onilly, welcome
Have you found out anything about your nuchal scan yet?
The sonographer may have been reluctant to discuss the results with you as she/he is trained to do the scan but not trained to discuss implications of results IYKWIM.
Basically 1 in 250 or lower is considered 'high risk' and higher than 1 in 250 is 'low risk'.
If you had a 'high risk' result you would be offered further investigation (ie amnio/CVS) It's a screening test so obviously not diagnostic.
Hope this helps.

LaidbackinAsia · 02/09/2006 02:04

Sorry to hear your news babycakes

teachingmum · 02/09/2006 07:16

Morning everyone

Firstly can I say how sorry I am babycakes26, my thoughts are with you. (((HUG)))

I'm a mum of 2 already and this little 'surprise' is due on 13/03/07. I teach in Stourbridge, West Midlands.

I'll be having this baby at Russels Hall Hospital in Dudley, hopefully by an elected section (2 very traumatic deliveries have brought me to this decision)

I'm brand new to mumsnet and I'm really looking forward to becomming a mum of 3!! lol

Have a great weekend everyone

onilly · 02/09/2006 08:11

mornin' all
Babycakes, geez, how sad. Here comes a virtual hug.....what a horrible blow, I am so sorry.

Flannelette PJ's and FatFox - THANKYOU, thats all I needed, I did search the website but never seemed to find quite the straightforward answer you guys gave. Luck would have it that we seem to be low risk (now that I can interpret the damn stats!) 2.0 mm for NT and my risk was adjusted to 1:731 from 1:269 so I guess thats ok ??

Thank god for MN - I even got reassurance that blinding headaches seem normal - some truly odd things happening to this body!! Have a good weekend all, I am off to hunt down a Milky Bar..

fatfox · 02/09/2006 09:35

Teachingmum - Hi and welcome - good to have you onboard

Babycakes - keep thinking about you, hope you're OK

kittywits · 02/09/2006 11:23

Fatfox, keep your eye on the MMR thread.

pennygaff · 02/09/2006 14:11

Babycakes, so sorry, Really wish you the best of luck in the future.

Big Thank yous to all who answered my Headaches question, Its reassuring to know Its a common thing, Still I went trotting down to my GPs and He said I was overly tired and Blood Pressure was fine.
LaidbackinAsia- WOW your eyeballs shrink?, Knew my eyes had changed but didn't know why.

My Temper is flaring out of control! Just screamed the place down at the DP, Can't tolerate anything at the mo.

annaspanna · 02/09/2006 14:37

Babycakes- bless you - thoughts with you

Teachingmum - sorry i didn't read this march thread before posting on the Russells Hall thread. Ignore my PG brain!!

Jaysecond thanx for the good scan advise again but unless things have changed i don't think we have nuchal as an option. I'll ask properly on 15th when i have my scan.

Pennygaff i suffered bad headaches last pg & this one up to about 18 wks last time. & The eyesight thing - i thought it was just me!! Optitian won't administer glasses if you're pg or bf due to hormones changing your eyesight. Weirdly eyesight has got better this pg!!!

I Had ms for the first time ever today. Hope i never experience it again. Hunger on a massive scale & constant thirst too!! Hope it not twins....

divastrop · 02/09/2006 15:00

my thoughts are with u babycakes xxx

hi kittywits,im still loopy but went to my gp and am back on prozac now.my consultant hadnt heard of any1 needing ad's in pregnancy before!
how ru feeling?

hope every1 is ok today.ive been on a mad dash to get school trousers for ds1 as he appears to have grown since early august.cant wait till tuesday.

kittywits · 02/09/2006 15:44

hi Diva, I'm feeling a little better. I've ordered that book but there's alot in my life that needs sorting. My 98 year old granny is dying at the mo so that's not helping, we are all just waiting. She's got lots of family with her all the time, all giving her hugs and chatting to her so if she has to go then the circumstances couldn't be better.
It's very strange but if this one is as late as all the others ( about 17 days) then it will arrive on her birthday. That would be just lovely.

morocco · 02/09/2006 16:06

so sorry babycakes

hope the prozac is doing the job diva.

welcome, teachingmum - we have lots of things in common! same due date and both surprise baby number 13! and I'm a very very part time teacher (fe)!

hope sickness is easing off for you all

dixia · 02/09/2006 17:59

Evening all,

I am still away from home and doing my grand tour of the UK (summer 2006) - at present at my mums in Oxford. Mum has taken DS swimming so I get a little break for an hour or so - so I thought I'd check in and see whats been going on with all of you.

Babycakes, I'm so sorry. I hope you get through this ok, and we see you on another thread soon. Thinking of you.

Welcome to all the newbies - I have scanned, but there seem to be loads of new people, so can't name names. Glad to have you all here .

I am now 12+2, ms is much more manageable - still throwing up every morning without fail, and sometimes at lunch time or in the evening, but am managing to function much more normally. Still popping the anti-emetics though - scared of coming off them.

I've got a definate bump! I'm wearing maternity clothes today - scary. I am also pretty sure I can feel this baby moving at night. It's not proper movements or anything, but more akin to that feeling you get in your tummy just before a serious bout of diahorrea (sp?) - kwim? sorry, bit graphic. Anyone else getting this or am I on my own?

I can't do up the middle buttons on my jacket.

I'm really keen to have my scan now, but I have to wait until I get back to Spain. Its on 18th Sept, when I will be 14 + ?. Will they still be able to acurately date at this time? I know when my last period was, but as this thread has shown, there can still be quite a bit of room for manouvre can't there?

Anyway, will check in again tomorrow XXX

Refresher of my stats:
Me: 30
DP: 36
DS: 3.10
EDD: 15th March

divastrop · 02/09/2006 20:20

sorry to hear about ur gran, kittywits,i hope everything goes ok.
im ging to see if i can get that book next week when i have some money.
is anybody else here suddenly putting on loads of weight?ive put on 6lb in the last 2 weeks,i cant remember how the weight went on last time,if it was gradual or in spurts.i worry about it cos i see all these other pg women who just have a neat little bump and dont put any weight on anywhere else, but i seem to get huge all over.

kittywits · 02/09/2006 22:06

I don't weigh myself but I know that my backside has expanded . I couldn't bear to know the weight. I'll weigh myself again sometime next June

Booboobedoo · 02/09/2006 23:26

I've put on 8 pounds since getting PG (it's on my notes). Have no idea how, as I throw up all the time, and have to force myself to eat.

dixia - I'm pretty sure I've felt baby move when I wake up in the morning and put my hand on my tummy: like funny little flutterings that aren't wind. I know it's incredibly early for this (I'm 14 weeks tomorrow), but I'm pretty sure.

Babycakes: I'm so, so, so sorry for your loss . There's nothing anyone can say in these situations, but we're all thinking about you.

I stopped watching 'Stenders about 3 years ago: couldn't deal with the unremitting gloom any more. I watched How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria tonight though, and cried like a knob.

pennygaff · 03/09/2006 09:39

Hi
dixia- I'm sure I can feel movement too and I know what you mean about The wind feeling!
kittywits- My backside has spread a bit, Yesterday was my first Maternity clothes day and its a relief! All my Jumpers are too tight and show the bump.
I'm getting to really like my little bump now, at first it made me feel squeamish but now Its quite friendly.
annaspanna -When are you due?

divastrop · 03/09/2006 11:05

my bottom grew before anything else last time,as did my boobs,i'd gone up 4 cup sizes by 12 weeks.im convinced this time im having another boy though as these things havent happened but i do already have a slight bump and ive got greasy hair and spots(same as with my other 2 boys).

divastrop · 03/09/2006 11:07

oh yes,i felt ds1 move at 11 weeks(i wasnt imagining it)and ds2 at 14 weeks.the girls were a bit later,about 16 weeks.

annaspanna · 03/09/2006 13:29

I'm glad you say that you've felt movement because i swear i have too. I am only 11 wks maybe a bit more. I am still in normal clothes at the moment thank God and have only put on about a pound or two in weight. Don't worry girls I'll balloon half way through to whale proportions overnight!!!Put on 4 stone last time so thats a fair weight gain considering it only took 20 wks to do it!!!

Pennygaff - I'm due mid March. Very lax about keeping dates so can't tell you an accurate EDD til the scan on the 15th. Instinct tells me 21 March but that might be wishful thinking as it was my mothers birthday (God rest her soul).

Headache was quite severe again this morning but its gone now. Oh and you'll all wanna stone me for this- but I've only just given up smoking yesterday. I'd cut down to 2 a day since i found out pg - honest - & hopefully this time will be for good.

divastrop · 03/09/2006 14:48

well done annaspanna!ive been struggling with smoking this time.i gave up in my last pg very easily at 6 weeks but stupidly started again when dd2 was a month old.i tried nicotine replacement a few weeks ago but i went totally nuts for some reason so i decided to just cut down.i started out on 15 a day, yesterday i only had 2 today i havent had one atall yet.i find if i say im giving up though i panic and think i NEED a fag.
well done again anyway, giving up at any point in pg is good and anyone whos done it knows how difficult it can be

morocco · 03/09/2006 15:08

it must be hard to give up/cut down like that. Does you body help you out? I mean, do you crave them less when pregnant? (like I went cold turkey on the coffee for 3 months just cos it made me want to puke) does the gp run programmes to help you cut down? I hope they do - bit rubbish if they put you on a waiting list!

btw, notice my typo teachingmum? I don't think either of us is quite up to 13 kids yet!

kittywits · 03/09/2006 15:28

Well just found 8 month old dd3 half way up the main staircase. Hmmmm, looks like I'll be trailing her round the house for the next month until she gets the hang of it. We can'y use stair gates 'cos the other little ones can't manage them. Infact I don't think I've ever used them and no one has ever fallen down ( well not that I know about , bad mother). Our stairs are long but pretty shallow.
I too am struggling with giving up fags this time. Have got alot of stresses. Only 2 a day and once things here have settled dow it'll be easier to stop.

DollyP · 03/09/2006 17:17

Hi ladies

First of all, I am so sorry to hear your news babycakes . Thinking of you at this horrible time XXXXXX

Sorry I've not been around much. Had dreadful stomach pains over the last couple of days and so bad this morning I admitted defeat and went to hospital. They won't know for definite what's going on until I have a scan tomorrow but the money's on either an ovarian cyst or a wee infection. The nurse said that she couldn't rule out an ectopic pg as I hadn't had a scan but at my stage (11 weeks) it was too late, unless I got the dates wrong. Feeling a bit wobbly but OK. Just waiting for tomorrow now.

Hope everyone else is doing well and not too sick. Sorry to hear about your gran Kitty. Good luck to those ladies battling with the fags - you can do it! I gave up a few years ago and it is hard. Have you read the Allen Carr book? Only thing which really helped me.

Just seen Paula Radcliffe running (!) at 22 weeks pg and she is still very slim and flat of tum. Wish I could say the same .

Take care ladies and I'll let you know how I get on XXXX

kittywits · 03/09/2006 18:02

Oh no dolly p, how worrying for you
I can't see how it could be an eptopic as you would have been in pain a long time before now surely?
if it's a wee infection the can give you antibiotics can't they.
Why do these things always happen at the weekend? where are the pains? Sorry, lots of questions.
