Interesting that dummies have been mentioned, I was wondering about those recently. I'm a bit reluctant as my mum had a right job getting me to stop sucking my dummy. I think I was possibly about 4 or 5 before I stopped, I remember my mum (clearly in desperation!) telling me that if I didn't stop then father Christmas wouldn't be bringing me presents that year! Hehe.

I wore a maternity dress for the first time today as my clothes feel a bit tight now. Someone said how many weeks are you? I told them and then they said, oh looks like you're going to be a big girl then probably by the end! I didn't know whether to be happy I have a bump showing now or a bit offended haha! Blush

Nazly · 01/04/2014 21:40

Am I being totally silly ladies : I am a bit nervous and apprehensive about starting to show when I go to client meetings ; i have key roles in some of our long term projects and have a few key client contacts that would not want to miss;
I have a feeling that right or wrong, the clients may sort of write you off as soon as they know you are pregnant which is an annoying feeling and unreasonable I'd say, but I feel that's the way it is going to work and so I am nervous about meetings...

My plan is to go to work, either part time or full time after 3months max, so just feel anything they think is just unfair!!
Am I being crazy about feeling bad in meetings?

I told my boss when i was 12w and told everybody else at work today (18w today) as it was being difficult to cover the little bump up... Every one was/is supportive at work, but my boss worries about my position and has started looking to recruit...

calliegs · 01/04/2014 22:09

Hi all. Harmony test back after 11 days - all ok and we are in team pink

topmammy · 01/04/2014 22:17

I don't think how you feel about pregnancy+ your work is silly Nazly I can understand what you mean. Being a teacher I work in a child centred environment anyway so I don't really feel the same pressure as you are describing luckily. Just remember though that you shouldn't have to feel undermined just because of other people's prejudices. Just go about your meetings as normal and be confident about showing your bump Grin. Your boss I'd being a bit unfair in looking at recruiting someone already though I must say! At least he (I assume a he?) could have kept it to himself.

Sicky88 · 02/04/2014 07:15

I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and have spent the last 3 days off work sick. Is it normal for sickness to get significantly worse before it gets better. Up until now I've had the odd day off for it but never more than that. I'm just beginning to get frustrated at feeling so sick now.

misog2000 · 02/04/2014 07:24

I feel the same Nazly, I'm in a projects role and worry that people will stop sending new things my way now until I get back from mat leave. I'm also going to be going off in the middle of two big projects I'm leading on and my boss will have to try and cover them herself as there is no money for outside cover - goodness knows what sort of mess they will be in by the time I get back.

I'm only taking 3 months off full time and the returning 3 days a week for 3 months so won't be gone for long, and I know work will become less important to me once baby arrives but I have worked hard to get where I am and the reputation I have and I'm just worried that taking mat leave will change that.

I sound horrid now, I'm very happy about the baby and it is truly wanted, but my career has been very important to me for a long time now - here's hoping I can have both without too much stress

weebairn · 02/04/2014 07:26

Starting new job today. No one knows I"m pregnant, feel really ill with sore throat/temperature, been up since 3.30 with sick toddler. Send strength, so worried

misog2000 · 02/04/2014 07:38

Good luck weebairn, hope you are feeling better soon and your first day goes well Thanks

rockin20s · 02/04/2014 09:52

Went to my first pregnancy yoga class last night, it was really good, very relaxing!

isitme1 · 02/04/2014 10:25

Good luck weebairn x

Lottiedoubtie · 02/04/2014 12:21

Sicky. What you describe is not necessarily usual, but it's not that unusual either. I'm 16.5 weeks and still on anti emetics and still got horrendous nausea. Hang in there, and do see the doctor, medications do help.

Good luck weebairn wishing you well. You're very brave starting a new job, especially ill as well as pregnant... just remember you aren't doing anything wrong and any objections are based on outdated, illegal, sexist prejudice.

LH1981 · 02/04/2014 12:33

Hi Ladies, long time no speak! Have been manic and not really stopped to breathe!
topmammy, wrt the dummy thing - I would go dummy dummy dummy every time. I have two boys aged 6 and 7 and they are the biggest thumb suckers and I cannot get them to stop. I have tried everything. At least with a dummy, the dummy fairy can come and take it away or whatever - can't chop off their thumbs!!

All good here, still feeling nauseas quite often and lots of headaches and reflux. This time around is so much tougher than my last two! Must be age!
Still team yellow until 15th May (15th May!!! That's sooo long!!!) but have a strong feeling we will be in team blue. Going for the football team it would seem.

Hope you're all doing well, congrats to all those who've had their 20week scans! xx

whiteblossom · 02/04/2014 14:21

I didn't have any problems with dummies, ds had them to sooth when tired then we went to night time only-and as soon as he was asleep the dummy fell out (sleeps with mouth open!) then we weaned him off it, which he was fully aware of. Would not hesitate again.

Went to have my eyebrows threaded and baby gave me two big kicks Smile

good luck weebairn

rockin20s · 02/04/2014 14:52

still dont know about the dummy! i sucked my thumb for years and had very bad teeth, ended up with 5-6 years of braces. so not sure what is worse: giving the dummy and they get use to comfort sucking or not giving one and they comfort suck on a thumb instead which i cant take away!

I am hoping to breastfeed, i think they say not to give a dummy because to nipple confusion for the first few weeks so i think i will go with that and see how the baby is.

whiteblossom · 02/04/2014 15:02

Is anyone buying things like wet wipes yet, boots have the newborn ones on offer and Im tempted...is it a bit soon? I want to shop Grin

Lottiedoubtie · 02/04/2014 15:08

Not too early if you've got somewhere to put them!

My problem is that the upstairs of my house needs a drastic sort out and I feel to sick to do it, so I'm not buying anything just yet.

I was in JL last weekend and was planning to buy something small but when it came down to it I couldn't actually bring myself to buy anything!

isitme1 · 02/04/2014 15:16

I think asda always have wipes on cheaper than every where else so will leave that until I start hospital bag shopping again.

I bought a breastpump and storage pots but never usedthem. I ccould never pump more than a few mls but did try him on me first. I want to exclusively bf fromday1 if I can

dummies are a good comfort.

I know someone who is a grandma and still sucks her thumb.

whiteblossom · 02/04/2014 15:19

Lottie, that was how I have been, I want to buy but cant actually bring myself to. But the desire to buy a few bits is getting to me and I don't like to pass on something I know I'll need if its on offer.

We are currently having a big clear out and swapping the rooms round so not ideal to start buying loads, but I do have a box set aside in my bedroom with a few baby bits in it.

Last time we had tons of space and storage to I just kept adding things to the supermarket trolly, it kept the initial cost down in the first few months and saved me from running out.

Oxlady · 02/04/2014 16:03

Good luck weebairn, I hope your first day is going well!

I had my 16 week app yesterday and all was good and got to hear heart beat too! Best sound ever!

Wrt to buying stuff, I am all for getting bargains and preparing early! So far we have bought the cot bed and changing unit from eBay and collecting tomorrow.

If you shop in Boots often, sign up to the parenting club and you get 10 points for every £1 you spend there.

Teabiscuits · 02/04/2014 16:13

I think with dummies ultimately, the baby makes the choice. I tried them on all 3 DCs and none were interested in the slightest. I know some Mums who were very anti dummy and resisted for weeks, only to find that the dummy was the best thing they ever bought in the end.

My youngest is only 9 months so we don't have much to buy as we have it all already.

We did buy a double buggy the other day, it was £100 off and I got 20% discount through work on that day, so couldn't say no really!

KatharineClover · 02/04/2014 17:54

DS had tongue tie and colic - I was desperate for him to take a dummy when sleep deprived but he wouldn't! But didn't suck his thumb either. Got given a book called 'Breastfeeding take two' so I'm so so hoping I can BF exclusively this time round. I don't think I'll get a dummy this time, I want the baby on the boob as much as possible!

xxmissbrightsidexx · 02/04/2014 18:10

hi ladies, hope everything/everyone is okay x

had my 16week check today, heard babys heartbeat and all seems well, dont need to see the mw til 25weeks now. did mention to her that i cannot cope with this sickness/nausea and not being able to eat, well she wasnt very helpful and just said i may be 'one of the unlucky ones who gets it throughout' checked my wee for ketones (whatever that means?) and said it came back fine, as ive been keeping myself hydrated when i cant eat. but if this carries on (which it looks like it will) will the dr prescribe me anything? i cant keeo going on like this, barely eating and im sure im losing weight too :( xx

xxmissbrightsidexx · 02/04/2014 18:13

i wanted to start buying nappies etc when we were in superdrug the other day, as ive got a voucher to use in there, but oh said its 'too soon to be cluttering the house up with stuff like that'.. well i want to be prepared and start getting stocked up, so whens the right time to start buying? lol xx

Lottiedoubtie · 02/04/2014 18:21

miss poor you! The ketones thing is to check that you are not dehydrated if they are above about 2+ then you need admitting to hospital for IV fluids.

You can buy sticks in th pharmacy to wee on to check dehydration levels at home if you are worried. Sorry that the midwife wasn't very helful, especially as it is severe enough for you to loose weight, please see your GP it sounds like you could benefit from anti-emetics, they usually start Phenergan or Cyclizine as a first line of defence. Both safe in pregnancy.

topmammy · 02/04/2014 18:47

Lottie the upstairs of my house needs a massive clear out too. It exhausts me just thinking about it! Anyone want to buy an electric violin, various guitar amps or guitars? Haha.

I keep noticing my heart is beating so hard it's like it's trying to pop out my chest. My DH puts his ear on my chest to listen and even he can hear how hard it's pumping. Anyone else had this? Will have to mention to a MW when I go next week for my scan maybe.
