We've made it this far - only another 6 months to go! (Gulp!)

Flowertot,

scan down to the bit where it says how long will these symptoms last

However, if you feel really worried, ring the midwife or the hospital and get a doppler done. My boobs are less like missile warheads, just a bit tender now. Am 15+1.

shhhh · 01/09/2006 14:48

nice to hear eveyone is doing well.

Boob tenderness does vary, with dd is my 1st sign I was expecting but this time I never got it till around 15 weeks and then they hurt like hell..! Now at 18 weeks it comes and goes. I wouldn't worry BUT speak to your mw if you want to be reasurred further.

LOL at CB..!!! I'm 4ft 11in and around 9 stone pre pregnancy when I had dd.....she weighed...........9lb 4ozs..!!! All done in water and with gas & air only. All I can say is BE PREPARED. If you expect the worse then only better things can happen.

flowertot · 01/09/2006 17:55

Thanks Maazaa that was reassuring to read. I have booked a midwife appt for Tuesday but decided not to do anything 'emergency' today. Do not want to be a paranoid pregnant woman! and sure there will be plenty more moments during the next few months! Was so calm and unflustered first time around its bizarre why I keep imagining the worst this time.

suzi2 · 01/09/2006 19:59

flowertot - don't worry about being paranoid, your mw will understand.

CB on the baby size thing... my friend was a twelve pounder and her mum is only 5'3" and slim built. No tearing apparently! My midwife told me that the weight of the baby is pretty unimportant - it's head circumference that does the damage! Mind you, my DS had a pretty big head and I only had a minor tear with no stitches. I was shocked just how stretchy I was

My bump has magically appeared today. Most days I can hold in my flabby post-DS belly and only look podgy. But today I suddenly can't. I look pregnant, or at least heading that way.

babycheese · 02/09/2006 11:56

Hello everyone, haven't been on in ages and have missed loads by the looks of it. Dd had her 2nd birthday yesterday which was really sweet.

Am 17+3 baby is moving quite a bit mostly at night. Sleep is getting a bit tricky and am still up in the night for the loo. Looked at all the convo I have missed was comforted to read about other peoples boob issues. Need to get measured myself as boobs are growing. Am back to work next week, I too am a teacher although I'm a 0.4 so sympathise with the full timers on here. Not got planning as such to do but feeling very anxious as have no clothes to wear so am going to look a total moron on tues. I too was signed off work for the last part of term and in hospital with hyperemesis. Not pleasant and worse than with my daughter. Did anybody else have hyperemesis in their pregnancies? Only because would be interested to know if you had boys they say that more morning sickness hints at having girls, in which case I could be carrying another girl. Sickness was really bad this time though.

Wickymum thanks for asking after me. Feeling good generally, yesterday felt a bit sick but seems like (touch wood) most of it has passed now. Starting to get excited now. Hope your doing well.

bunny3 · 02/09/2006 22:16

hiya - have been offline for a while so need to catch up with everyone. I am looking huge - ...
got to go, dd awake ...

ja9 · 02/09/2006 22:50

lovely to read how you are all doing.

it was my ds 2nd birthday a few days ago too. very sweet. we've taken the sides off his cot and it looks really cute

i'm 15 weeks today. haven't felt baby move yet... i'm sure i felt it at 16 weeks last time, and thought i might have felt something by now. could really do with the reassurance.

i'm still in my own clothes - but am now beginning to feel uncomfy in even my 'fat' clothes - especially tops as mine all seem to be quite clingy.

my sil is due very soon and it's making me sooo broody. i'm felling very excited about baby just now.

muminkent · 03/09/2006 17:05

Hi all,

Hope pregnancy is treating you all ok.

i think i'm 16weeks this week, not really sure, not really keeping up with it this time. i've got an 11month old ds. he keeps me busy enough. am due 15th Feb, so anyone want to update me on my weeks be v. grateful.

Anyway sorry for just charging in on your thread, hope you dont mind if i join. I'm 19 and live in Ramsgate with my df.

Not on very often, maybe i should make some more time. but i did get addicted to my ant-natal thread last year!

Nevermind hope you're all ok and dont think i'm too wierd!!

MIK x

CurrantBun · 03/09/2006 17:24

Welcome MuminKent - why would we think you're weird??

I have a slight concern - pain around my belly button and just below. Hurts if I press it, or if trousers etc. restrict it at all. No cramping or bleeding or anything sinister - it feels a bit like a pulled muscle or a stitch. Could it be round ligament pain? I know everything is starting to stretch, and as I had quite taut abs before I'm wondering if it might get a bit uncomfortable when they start to stretch. Have had it a couple of times in the past couple of weeks but it usually goes away very quickly - this time I've had it since last night and the degree of discomfort has varied throughout the day/night. Just wondering if I should be worried. I feel fine - 100%, and as I said before no cramping or anything - just wondered if anyone else has had similar and knows what it is.

On another matter, how on earth does anyone decide on a pram/travel system? We went on a preliminary recce this afternoon and the choice is just overwhelming! Got chatting to a woman in Mothercare who had a Quinny Buzz with Maxi-Cosi car seat - this looks the sort of thing I want; multi-terrain and could presumably be used for jogging too. We were also shocked at how expensive everything is!

sorkycake · 03/09/2006 17:45

CB I bought a Landrover ATP to run with and that's fab, but they don't do them anymore. Phil and Ted's is a good runner's one and the mountain buggy too. MB is the closest to my ATP as it comes with a carrycot attachment. Then at 6 mo you can move to the buggy.
If you want to go proper walking/running or off road (even vaguely) then steer clear of the travel systems. You won't be able to 'off road' /run until 6 months anyway btw.
Dh hates TS & calls them 'up like a clam prams' cos' when they're closed you can't see the baby at all lol

cadbury · 03/09/2006 20:01

hello mum in Kent - I'm in Medway. You are very welcome to join us. I hope you are getting a chance to have a rest with your little one running you ragged!

peachygirl · 03/09/2006 20:18

Hi all and welcome muminkent. I think you might be 15- 151/2 weeks as I'm due on the 19th nd tomorrow (Mon) will be week 16 for me.
Currentbun it probably is everything stretching you must have very tight tummy muscles with all that running. I've not got a bump yet and I'm taking that as a sign that my tummy muscles are better than I thought they were.
I've been looking at prams too.. well browsing really and at the moment I like the modern silver cross ones.I won't be running with mine. I'd like one which can be like a pram , then a buggy but can have the car seat on too. Me and mum looked at them in John Lewis and she approved. but she had a old fashioned silver cross on for me and my brother so will be biased.
Good luck to the other teachers on here going back to work tomorrow.. everyone will be finding out about me

maazaa · 03/09/2006 20:49

Evening all....

Welcome muminkent! I am due on the 22nd Feb and am 16 weeks next Thursday!

Currantbun - I have no tautness in tummy muscles (in fact kids at school have rumoured me to be pg after a particularly substantial school dinner), so I have fairly big bump considering how early it is, but I was feeling it today and it is very tight around the belly button, so I imagine yours would hurt a bit. Gosh long sentence!

Re prams, may I recommend the Mothercare/Mumsnet consumer guide - it covers all things baby and each item is rated on different criteria by a mum panel. You just ask in Mothercare at the counter and you get it for free. I love it as it offers the pros and cons of everything. Secondly, my friend recommended the Which guide for car seats (I think the maxi cosi came out on top). Finally, another friend recommended going for a consultation at the Mamas and Papas shop (there are a few around I understand) where they let you look at and test everything. They didn't feel obliged to buy but went away and bought it online at Kiddicare, I think, for a third less of the price.

I was interested to find that not all buggies/prams worked from birth. For example the Quinny Buzz is from six months old not birth unless you get the carrycot, which is £130 and/or the car seat which is £90. When I added up everything on the babies r us website, it came to over £600. Surely that's not necessary? Advice from you experienced ones please!! Also, are the three wheelers heavier? Up to 5-6 kg I understand?

It's a mine field!!!! I know we have 5-6 months to decide, but if we need to start saving, we have to think about it all now!!!!

babydrivertoo · 03/09/2006 21:03

hi folks, just checking in. welcome muminkent.

prams, buggies, travel systems - what a nightmare. We had a Jane travel system last time which was really nice for about 4 months and then we just ended up leaving the seat in the car as it was so dam heavy and just used the buggy bit. Which meant that when the car seat got grown out of at abt 6/7mo (long baby) we just got a cossatto buggy from John Lewis. Served us pretty well but looking a bit bashed now. Hope it will cope with a buggy board and no2...

There are lots available 2nd hand BTW, tho' I wouldn't buy a used car set myself unless it was from someone I knew and completely trusted.

On baby sizes, agree with suzy2 about head size. One of the most reassuring things from NCT classes last time was seeing the cutouts of 6lb and 9lb babies and the heads were only fractionally different.

Happy days to all the teachers going back tomorrow. Same old same old for the rest of us I guess. I'm not looking forward to all the kids hanging around for the buses and the mad traffic, but at least the museums and things that we do on my Mondays at home should get quieter!

flowertot · 04/09/2006 07:30

Well we had Jane system too and used it right up til 2 years when DD started walking everywhere. Found it fab in town and fab on country walks too. Didn't have matrix car seat which is heavier I believe so had no probs taking seat in and out of car. In fact it was one of the lightest car seats around at the time.
Chassis was a bit heavier than some so look for really lightweight if you prefer but ours was in and out of car most days and I didn't have any problem with it. Still think Jane is supposed to be one of the best around - though much updated now.
Maaza if car seat is on chassis then can be used from birth, its just that some of the pushchair bits don't lie down completely flat so are from 3/6 months.

CurrantBun · 04/09/2006 09:33

I think the pain/tightness round my tummy button must be ligament pain, although funnily enough it has improved since I managed to have a no. 2 this morning (sorry if TMI but was unable to go at all yesterday!) I have also developed a tiny bump seemingly overnight; looks like a pot belly rather than a baby though so also supports the 'everything stretching' theory.

Maazaa, you can buy the Quinny Buzz, Maxi-Cosi car seat and Dreami carrycot (plus a few other accessories) as part of a complete package for £469 on a couple of websites - was browsing last night and can't remember which websites it was on, but if you Google 'Quinny Buzz' it should bring them up. Can be used from birth with car seat and/or carrycot. The biggest factors for me are weight (as I'm only small myself I don't want anything heavy/bulky) and ease of folding - the Quinny virtually folds itself! We also need to be able to lift off the car seat/carrycot and bring it into the house separately, as we don't have a proper hallway, just a small square inside the front door which the lounge door opens off, and is not big enough to get a pram in. So will have to bring baby indoors in seat/carrycot, then collapse wheels etc outside before bringing them into the house. We also have light beige carpet which I'm not wheeling a muddly/wet pram across!

soundbites · 04/09/2006 09:59

Hello ladies

We have actually bought our pushchair already - a bit keen! I really didn't want to bother with all the bits that you get with a travel system and was set on a Quinny Buzz (the manufacturers claim they are for from new born) and was bidding on one on ebay when I did a google search and found terrible reviews with 7/10 saying they would not recommend them so I allowed myself to be outbid! Stories of the front wheel falling off, not fitting in most cars, someone breaking their fingers with the clever one-touch closing system. Just check, Currantbun, before you do anything. Can't remember the site, think I just typed in 'Quinny Buzz reviews'. We have settled for the Britax First Class car seat which does birth to 4 years (Kiddicare.com does them for £40 less than anywhere else I have found) and a Britax Zeta puschair which goes flat so can be used from birth and folds up nice and small. Hope I don't end up regretting it ?

I think you are all about to think I am a selfish cow, but I have to tell someone ? My SIL (DH's sister) has just announced she is expecting no3 and I have allowed myself to feel rather upset about it. As my Mum said when I told her, I feel a bit that they have stolen our thunder. I knew they wanted a third, but thought that with me being 18 1/2 weeks and no news yet that they would be a good 3-4 months behind, when actually she is 13 1/2 and was keeping quiet (even when we went camping with them when she would have been 8 weeks). Yet we told her, along with our parents, on the day we did the pregnancy test. I know I am being horribly selfish, probably preggy hormones too. My FIL was terribly sweet and said that it was lovely news about the other baby but we must remember that it is no3 and ours is no1 which makes it more special! I was touched that they seem to have appreciated what I might be feeling.

Still feeling sick - not nearly as bad as it was, but when will it end??!!

Anyway, sorry to winge for so long - have a good week,
xxx

Tommy · 04/09/2006 10:18

Hi soundbites. Know how you feeel - 2 of my sisters in law were pregant at the same time I was with DS1 and my sieter has a baby 2 weeks younger than DS2 so I've been there too! I also felt the same but, thinking about it logically, it was fun to compare notes with someone else and my boys have got cousins the same age and they all really get on! Hang in there.
I am actually wearing maternity clothes to day (picked up denim skirt in H&M yesterday - half price ) and it is soooooooooo much more comfortable than tyring to squash mt ever expaning belly into my normal trousers - I would recommend it!

CurrantBun · 04/09/2006 11:40

Soundbites, thanks for that note of caution! I will see what I can find to read about the Quinny Buzz. Definitely need something all-terrain, three-wheeled and with detachable car seat etc. Will check out a few others.

Don't feel bad about feeling upset re. your SIL. I think we all get a bit like that! My brother's girlfriend's sister is also expecting and is a few weeks ahead of me. She and her partner are not very well off financially, and my brother's girlfriend keeps saying things like, "Don't worry, rich Uncle Phil will buy the baby that ..." which really annoys me. Yes, my brother earns a lot of money (he has his own business and works hard for it) but frankly blood is thicker than water and our baby should take priority!!

N1SEXYTING · 04/09/2006 14:42

Hi ladies

Just need to vent a bit, I decided to try and get a council flat (seeing as I've been paying taxes since I was 16!) and went to the housing section on thursday. The lady i saw was really nice and i was offered temporary accomodation the same day (had to tell them my mum kicked me out though

Went to check out the place and it was a nice small self contained studio which i was really pleased about as i was not looking forward to having to share bathroom and kitchen with others!

So me and my partner started buying a few things for our 'first home' together and slept there the last couple of nights. But i have quickly noticed that it seems to be a drugs den or something! There are a lot of shady people coming in and out the house at ALL hours of the NIGHT

Then yesterday there's 2 leaks coming from the ceiling! Its all a bit stressful, called the council to complain but been given the run around!

Apart from that all's well with baby (i think as I still haven't felt nothing yet) seeing the midwife on Fri for my 16th week.

TuttiFrutti · 04/09/2006 18:17

Currantbun, we bought the Bugaboo last time round and although it was very expensive (about £500 I think), it has been worth it as we used it from birth when it was a pram with a detachable carrycot, then it converted into a pushchair which I am still using now for ds aged 16 months. Also when it was in pram mode, it was compatible with the Maxi-Cosi car seat so you could just clip the baby in car seat straight from the car onto the pram chassis.

Some of my friends who bought cheaper pushchairs at the beginning have ended up buying 2 or 3 for different purposes, so if you can find one that does it all it works out cheaper in the long run.

Having said that, I will now have to buy a double buggy as my ds is still not walking and unlikely to be walking for long stints by February. Blimey, having children is just one long blank cheque...

peachygirl · 04/09/2006 19:39

Hi everyone, everyone at work was really lovely today wanting to know about everything. My scan pictures were admired and they even wanted to see my non exisitant bump.. I just showed them my flabby belly!
No1sexyting Hope everything will be OK. Keep on to the council as you may get something bigger when the baby arrives

klou · 05/09/2006 02:04

I am about 16 weeks and for the past 3 weeks i have been getting headaches. The bad ones are really bad - so much so that i have to lie down in a dark room and can't even lift my head up - and then on other days just a light pain - comes and goes. Does anyone else have this going on?
I told my doctor and he said just tkae Tylenol ( we are in the US ) thanks for any advice.

flowertot · 05/09/2006 08:14

Exactly the same here Klou. I have just been taking paracetamol, sometimes it works sometimes not. Am hoping its just a phase because the bad ones as you say are so debilitating I can't do anything and they can always go on from day to day. Fingers crossed they stop soon for us both

Flamesparrow · 05/09/2006 08:16

Second trimester already????

(crashing from 2006 ).

Just coming on and waving and saying good luck again - Hope you're all doing ok, and that the morning sickness is starting to ease off.
