For those of us due February 2007 and moving from the first to the second trimester ...

We've made it this far - only another 6 months to go! (Gulp!)

Thank you for your replies I am hoping that everything works out for my DD and her DP. I think you have a wonderful thread here on MN, you are a very supportive bunch! I wish you all a very happy February! Take care xx

gigglinggoblin · 14/10/2006 09:16

hello all, i havent posted for a bit as i havent really looked at any baby related stuff, i seem to have forgotten about it recently, am just plodding along! looked in the pg book the mw gives out last night and read a 22 week baby is about 27cm! cant believe its so big, that seems to have happened overnight! i have def got a bump now, have just started wearing maternity clothes which makes it look far bigger

apologies if its been done (this thread is too long) but thought i would post a link as so many people are discussing bump size, this is a very interesting web page if you want to compare, i certainly feel better after looking

baby belly gallery!

TuttiFrutti · 14/10/2006 09:31

Am feeling of all you women who've only just started wearing maternity clothes, not to mention those slim girls on the 21 weeks section of the baby bellies website! I am HUGE, look 9 months pregnant and some of my maternity clothes are already too tight .

Still, it's my second and apparently you always get bigger in subsequent pregnancies. Also, big babies are par for the course in my family, ds was 9lb8oz and this one will no doubt be similar.

Baby is lying transverse at the moment, which probably makes me look bigger as well. Can't you just tell I'm trying to find excuses?

Tommy · 14/10/2006 09:43

thanks for that link gigglinggoblin - rather unnerving as I'm sure my bump is bigger than all the 22 weeks ones (not the twins though so that's something to be thankful about!)

Do you think we should start a new thread? This is really long

suzi2 · 14/10/2006 10:21

lol I remember looking at that site when pg with DS and being really paranoid that my bump was so tiny compared to the others. This time it's huge compared to the others! Blaming that 2nd baby, slack muscles, plenty of room theory. Have still only put on 3lbs which is good as it means I've probably lost a touch of the excess I had elsewhere. Mind you, plenty of time for a couple more stone!

Tutti - Some of my maternity stuff is feeling a bit neat too. It's the sort of stuff I was out of by about 34wks last time. And I remember really struggling to get stuff to fit the last 3 or 4 weeks so goodness knows what it'll be like this time. On the lookout for some clown trousers on e-bay

Still throwing up... But Jelly Babies for breakfast seem to be helping.

MoosMa · 14/10/2006 18:42

I've just outgrown some maternity trousers too, bought some new ones from Dorothy Perkins today with button adjustable elastic - very clever I thought!

Also quite pleased as they are size 8 and the legs are a bit loose. People keep saying it's good I won't have loads of flab to lose after she's born, but I'm worried I won't have enough in reserve for bf-ing. In the week after I had DD1 I was losing 4lbs a day from feeding!

suzi2 · 14/10/2006 20:59

I don't think breastfeeding took much off me at all! Although that's probably because I read it takes an extra 500 cals a day... so I ate at least that many more! But I have since read that the body adjusts quickly to the demands and the metabolism slows. So that the 500 cals thing is rubbish...

Still really looking forward to breastfeeding again. Getting all mushy at the thought!

MoosMa · 15/10/2006 10:05

Me too, we didn't do a very good job of it last time between DD1 and me, I struggled with supply then she stopped being able to keep it down so we gave up at 10 weeks. This time I'm really keen to try again as dh is adamant that we're not having any more so this will probably be my last chance.

TuttiFrutti · 15/10/2006 10:53

Moosma and Suzi, I'm so glad someone else is finding their clothes too tight too! Suzi, lol at clown trousers .

peachygirl · 15/10/2006 17:16

Hi thought I'd pop in as I should be doing my planning.
A funny few days for me. My bump is very small compared to some of those pictures. I am in maternity wear but do have to keep pulling up one particular pair of trousers. I keep thinking I be big soon enough and I should be grateful for these months. Baby keeps kicking so I know everything is OK.
We have a stethescope at home and in one of my mags it says you can hear the babies heart beat with one from now.
Well, I can't and neither could DH but it did kick out and he heard that!
on Friday we discovered our cat has fleas and have spent most of the day madly cleaning the house hoovering bleaching that sort of thing. I went off for a bit while DH did the flea spray gand I think the cat has just about forgiven us for powdering her, brushin it off and then sticking her under the shower nozzle. we have been and bought new bedding too as we realised that the stuff we had was nearly 10 yrs old again
I was on the telly again today did anyone see me??

babydrivertoo · 15/10/2006 21:26

Popping in to catch up again. My bump is getting pretty big so it's mat clothes all round and grown out of a few. Even so, my underbump trousers keep falling down - I just think I'm an odd shape. My mat tights keep falling down too, v annoying. My walk at the moment seems to be waddle, waddle, hitch, waddle, waddle, hitch...

Sorry to hear that there are some SPD sufferers around. I feared I was getting it but then one night earlier in the week I turned over and heard & felt the most fearful clicks in my pelvis which lead to a bout of cramplike agony, but in the morning I was able to move much more smoothly so think it must have just been a trapped nerve instead.

Went to John Lewis earlier today to look at baby stuff. Buggy decision nightmare ahead. I'd like something that reclines all the way back properly but don't want a full on travel system to lug about. Will have to keep on researching and looking out for the small ads - some v gd second hand bargains around so might just see what comes up and take my chances.

Have a good week all!

12yeargap · 16/10/2006 09:03

I'm not in maternity gear yet, but I wear a lot of full skirts which were once worn on my hips, now hitched up over the bump a bit.

had a dream last night that I had the baby and it was a boy (it's not)with a full head of red hair, and when I got it home it started sitting up and trying to walk, eeek, I'm going to have a creepy killer pet-cemetary type baby

Pumpkin20 · 16/10/2006 12:19

I think I bloomed. Last Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately I didn't realise at the time or I might have made more of it. Nevermind. Had to rush out on Saturday for a bumper bottle of gaviscon and some BIG knickers.

It?s such a magical time.

Pumpkin x

BTW, I'm 22 wks today. Did I feel the baby having hiccups last night or is it too early?

suis · 16/10/2006 17:52

Have to agree with the magical time..LOL.. I think gaviscon is now one of my major food groups. I've also been having a mixed experience of maternity clothes. One pair of M&S drawstring jeans is fab and comfy, but the one the bump jeans won't stay up more than 5 minutes, and the adjustable work trousers are getting tight. All the same shop, all nominally the same size.

I just reckon as long as there is something I can wear each day I'll get by, but I am now waiting for the day when the bump takes an overnight spurt and I have to go to work in my enormous pjyama botoms.

Ruth2808 · 16/10/2006 19:37

I have suddenly ballooned I've reached the 24 week mark! Maternity clothes are my staple and whenever I mention when I'm due there are more than a few raised eyebrows! Has anyone got any tips on something a bit sexy for the Christmas do season. Otherwise I might be restricted to my 6 berth tent!!

CurrantBun · 17/10/2006 10:21

I'm 21 weeks (+1!) and still pretty tiny - not even in maternity clothes yet, although I think I'll need to go shopping quite soon just to be prepared. Not looking forward to that - am a tiny size 6 normally and am dreading finding maternity clothes to fit me. I have enough trouble finding normal clothes to fit me at the best of times - I hate shopping with a passion as I always go with such optimism and high expectations and come back empty-handed or with a load of mismatched things bought because they fit rather than any other reason.

Although bump is small, fundal height was right in the middle of the range for my dates. Midwife said because I have no real 'padding' she found it very easy to feel the baby and which way round it's lying - was transverse at the time. Baby is incredibly active - kicks me in the tummy all the time! I think I'm carrying relatively low at the moment - there's still a gap between boobs and bump and haven't had any digestive problems so far. It does press on my bladder a bit though which makes it quite uncomfortable when I'm out running, as though I need a giant pee even when I know my bladder is empty!

February does seem a long way off, but I'm going to concentrate on Christmas, which isn't that far off at all and I love Christmas! Once that's over I'll probably only have 3-4 weeks left at work and then not long until the baby arrives. Broken down like that, it doesn't seem that far off at all - gulp! Really need to start getting a few things sorted out: mainly travel system and cot!

sorkycake · 17/10/2006 10:26

Well I'm thrilled that those 24 week pictures look big compared to me
I've got a couple of maternity t-shirts out but I'm still wearing my normal jeans atm. I think it's cos the baby is breech and I carry quite high until the last month as well. I feel fab and I'm thoroughly enjoying this pg, despite the back pain and intermittent spd.
BH are well and truly doing their stuff and the baby goes for a run between 4-6am every morning. Colostrum is leaking in the bath which is a little earlier this time, but my body is at least preparing itself.
We're all tired with lack of sleep and head colds in the sorky household, but happy nonetheless. 16 weeks left, eek!
There's 8 weeks to Christmas, then 8 weeks til I'm due. Not really long left at all.
Can't wait to meet my baby

MoosMa · 17/10/2006 10:37

Ok put like that it doesn't seem far off at all - eek!

Got the new carpet yesterday so it's all go to get the little bedroom ready now...

CurrantBun · 17/10/2006 13:34

Sorky, I'm the same - still in normal jeans and trousers (but only my very low-waisted ones).

I'm feeling fab too - the only hint of discomfort I'm getting is (rather oddly) aching knees when I'm in bed at night. I think it's because I'm sleeping curled up on my side whereas I'd normally favour a more stretched-out position on either my tummy or my back. Sleeping on my tummy is obviously not an option any more and apparently you shouldn't lie on your back for long periods after the fourth month of pregnancy because the weight of your uterus can restrict blood flow to major vessels. I do find sleeping on my side rather uncomfortable though - I always wake up with a completely dead arm too!

OP posts:
Alocin · 17/10/2006 16:03

aching knees and aching hips me! Am trying different combinations of pillows to try and support various bits, but still sleeping on my back is the most comfortable - keep waking up feeling guilty that i am starving the little mite of oxygen! Does anyone have any experience of one of those full length body bolsters?

MoosMa · 17/10/2006 18:12

Have never tried a bolster but did find lying on my side with a pillow (or most of the duvet - sorry dh) stuck between my knees helped to support my top leg and stopped the aching hips.

I keep waking up on my back very aware of my heartbeat and feeling a bit breathless, is it the weight of LO squashing me already?

suzi2 · 18/10/2006 10:17

I have one of those beanbag sausage cushions for maternity and nursing. TBH, I nver got on well with it for sleeping with with DS and can't this time either. Although it's a comfy cushion in general. And I used it for nursing a lot with DS, although that's because I was struggling to get to grips with things and had aching arms... hoping I don't need it this time. Made a great support for DS when he was just sitting at 5 months. Made me sure that if he did wobble back then it would break his fall. So all in all a good buy.

But the ultimate best buy for my aching sides at night is a memory foam mattress topper we bought from Costco. Was £150 so not cheap. But it is brilliant. I too favour sleeping on my back and still wake that way a lot and feel guilty!

CurrantBun · 18/10/2006 10:22

Is it really so terrible if you sleep on your back? I never actually go to sleep lying on my back but quite often wake up in that position. Can it actually do the baby any harm?

My tummy felt really uncomfortable last night - sort of tight and stretched. Massaged in loads of Clinique Body Butter and this seemed to help. It feels better today. Probably just the bubs having a growth spurt!

OP posts:
Pumpkin20 · 18/10/2006 11:19

I'm not at all worried about sleeping on my back. I'm sure that while it's possible it's not a problem - when I'm bigger it won't be comfortable and I won't be able to do it. I did hear that the 'sleeping on your left' thing was not an issue until about 30 weeks.

I've got a bolster/sausage cushion thing but I'm using it to prop myself up on the sofa at the moment. There is not enough room for me, the bump, the bolster and DH in the bed. Someone is going to have to move out - negotiations are on-going.

suzi2 · 18/10/2006 11:33

With the lying on back thing... my MIL said yesterday that they didn't know all these things in their day and still managed. Which i guess has some truth. And my osteopath assures me that by the time the baby is 'suffering' my legs would be blue and numb. So I'm not sure it's a huge problem. Just not the ideal. A big part of me thinks I should sleep however I like for now while I still can!

My darling cat is as usual driving me potty, but he is now obsessed with cuddling up to my bump at night. he was the same with DS and it's quite uncomfy. Anyone else have this problem? He gives me such filthy looks when baby kicks him!
