WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

Elcs all booked!

moas · 18/03/2014 19:00

Rushy that's so scary! Try to get a good rest, I'd be properly shocked if that happened to me! Can you get some time off? So happy baby is fine.

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 18/03/2014 19:17

Glad you're ok Rushy that sounds terrifying!

Woo bornin great stuff!

Eeep it's sinking in now that there is a finite amount of time until I have a baby!!!

dobedobedo · 18/03/2014 20:16

Wow rushy that sounds awful! So glad you and baby are okay! Thanks fingers crossed the insurance covers everything.

Saw midwife today as BP has been all over the place lately. It was fine today, also bump is measuring smaller than last week - the midwife reckons the consultant measured it wrongHmm

Baby is still transverse and my pgp is worse than ever again. Got told off for doing too much when it miraculously fixed itself! Lol.

Am now lying in bed and baby is turning around - it's rather uncomfortable! I'm also sprouting stretch marks before my very eyes.

I kind of regret taking two days off work when I have two and a half weeks of work left before mat leave! I'd quite happily just stop working now. Hope the next couple of weeks go quick! Smile

MrsFooCough · 18/03/2014 21:35

Oh moom HOORAY FOR LOTS OF THINGS! Flat, decent consultant appt, oh I'm so chuffed for you Smile
rush on the other hand, how very dare you have such a rotten time! Haha but being serious that's an awful thing to happen when you're pregnant, you must have been scared stiff! I'm always terrified when I'm in the car tbh, with DH it's fine as he's uber-careful with me as a passenger but my dad is pretty lazy as a driver. Poor decision making, not paying attention to other drivers. That sort of thing. And he's the only person who can get me to my appointments, so I don't have a choice. Bit scary.

Got my first "joint diabetic clinic" appointment tomorrow at 11:15, I'm a bit scared. What will they do? Will they take another blood sample? I'll be there on my own so I hope to god that they don't need another full blood sample. I don't do blood tests very well. Difficult veins and panicky about the pain. But hey ho, it's all for the Bean, so I'll have to man up and handle it, whatever it is.
I hope they might tell me how severe the GD is, all the midwife said when they rang to tell me about the GTT results was they were "abnormal". Wtf does that even mean?!

Minions · 18/03/2014 21:58

Rushy, what a fright - really glad you and baby are ok. Get lots of rest, these things shake you up. Glad appt went well moomin & you got your elcs booked bornin. We're all getting closer now! All good here, DH back so I'm a happy girl

sambababy · 18/03/2014 22:06

rushy my heart was pounding just reading about the crash, it must've been so frightening! Never mind in other circumstances but when pregnant, goodness me! I'm glad the baby is ok and I hope nothing long-term has happened to your back. Make sure you're properly checked out and take it easy Thanks

I'm scared every time I have to go in a car over here. Brazilian drivers are literally insane, and as a pedestrian I have nearly been run over several times.

Absolutely famished today, think the baby must be having a growth spurt.

Bornin1984 · 18/03/2014 22:08

Mrs fc, I think they will just run through diabetes I pregnancy and what it means to u and baby, talk about diet and give u a kit to check bloods etc!

Good luck

Chip86 · 18/03/2014 22:13

rushy that sounds so scary glad you and baby are well take it easy

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 18/03/2014 22:20

think it's an early night for me... just taken two cocodamol and they seem to have knocked me about a bit.... seeing spiders crawling everywhere when they aren't and my head feels fuzzy like I've been drinking.... night all hope we get good nights sleeps all aorund :)

MrsFooCough · 18/03/2014 22:22

Thanks bornin - I'm hoping it's not an insulin dependent situation (yet) as I am just terrified of injecting myself. Terrified. I can handle finger pricking, I mean I've done worse than that whilst sewing! But for some reason voluntarily injecting myself is just horrifying. I reckon if/when they say I need insulin, I'll insist they try metformin first. Don't care if I shit myself every day! It'd be worth it to not have insulin.

Sorry to be so "me me me" but I'm just a bit scared that's all.
OHHHH bornin I forgot - congrats on the ELCS booking!

Squiffie · 18/03/2014 22:35

That must've been so scary rushys - glad all seems to be ok with you and baby.

Mrsfoo, my first appointment i met with the consultant, diabetic nurse, dietician and obstetrician. They just went through everything with me.

Just me or anyone else absolutely shattered?!

JodeyP · 18/03/2014 23:03

Wowoweeya!!! How time flies! I haven't posted since early Jan as I've been ridiculously busy at work and almost forgot about the thread. Now as maternity leave is fast approaching I thought I'd better get myself back on track with you ladies as I found this forum such an amazing support with DS1.

I've skimmed through lots of threads before finding you all here and I intend to keep up this time.

Bet I've missed lots! Anyways, I hope everyone is feeling well in their third trimester and i'm looking forward to chatting 'baby' talk rather than work talk over the coming weeks/months/years.

Just to update, I'm 30+4, 2nd baby, no idea of gender, and possibly having an ECS due to not progressing first time round!

sambababy · 18/03/2014 23:40

So we don't know if we're having a boy or a girl, but couldn't Tamara Ecclestone have gone for a slightly whackier celebrity name rather than pinching our top choice? I was already worried it was too common Envy

Having tons of Braxton hicks since getting home from work. Going for a bath to see if I can calm it down.

bornin when is d day?

Isean · 19/03/2014 04:37

Awake after being up to pee for the second time tonight & feet are really itchy! Grrr!

Yay for positive news for some of you & boo for those still struggling with various conditions/issues! (Sorry for the lack of specifics, on my phone & lose track of who has said what!)

I'm now thinking I need to look again at my hospital/baby bags, I don't seem to have packed half of what you guys have! We are only 10 mins from the hospital and have a 24 hour Tesco right beside the hospital if we were desperate.

Rushys how awful! I hope you & baby are ok and your insurance covers everything! V scary!

Xav what's the latest on your liver & OC? My ALT levels have come right down to 40, but can't get bile acids re-tested as they hospital which does it says the Urso will affect the results & not give a true reading. All the research I've read indicates it's the bile acid levels which are the important ones & the thing that's likely to affect the baby, so not sure if I should be pushing for it to be re-tested. I see the consultant on Monday so will ask then. Hopefully I'll have a plan put in place then too & maybe even an induction date! Eeks!

34+1

JodeyP · 19/03/2014 06:36

Just woke up to the lovely news that one of the girls who started Mat leave at school on Friday had her baby last night. Almost two weeks early! It's getting loser ShockGrin.

I'm going to Cornwall for the week, 4 weeks prior to due date! Might take my hospital bag just in case!

JodeyP · 19/03/2014 06:37

closer rather Blush

dobedobedo · 19/03/2014 06:48

Congratulations bornin on the elcs booking! It must be so weird and exciting to know your baby's birthday!

I had a rubbish night of sleep thanks to pgp. It's worse than ever. It took me ages to walk to the loo earlier and I had to use the walls to hold me up. Hopefully it'll loosen up as the day goes on as I'm back to work today. Damn it! Would LOVE to be on mat leave already. 13 working days to go! Grin

MIL wants us to go visit her when I'll be 37 weeks. She lives 2 hours away and one hour away from the closest hospital. Would I be nuts to go? She lives on the coast so it'd be nice for a little break before baby comes. Obviously if baby is still transverse I won't even consider it, but he still has a few weeks before then to turn yet.

mrsmummytobe · 19/03/2014 07:13

Rush that's awful. Car crashes are always really scary, so can't imagine what you went through pregnant. So glad you & bubs are safe & sound.

We break up for Easter hols 2 weeks tomorrow then I just have 3 more days to get through in the summer term before my mat leave begins!! Working til 38 weeks felt like a breeze when I was 12 weeks & made the decision, but now I can't wait to start mat leave!

ClearlyMoo · 19/03/2014 07:47

Rush! That's awful. Hope your back is ok and DH sorts insurance soon etc!

BornIn you have a date! Eeeek!

I had a glut & hamstring massage on my bad side last night. It hurt lots in a good way IYKWIM, physio this am and think she's going to be unimpressed I had massage which made me tender... Hmmm

Bad night cos I'm stressed about work. Today is supposed to be leave but several things I need to do! So prob going to end up working.

NCT was hilarious last night, the group got a bit rowdy talking about home "induction" techniques to try from 37 weeks. Have you guys thought about them..?

Walking - very good - babies head presses on cervix as you walk
Sex - produces oxytocin and semen contains the same "drug" they use in the induction pessary
Nipple stimulation - by hand, NOT pumping
Pineapple - you have to make sure you eat the core woody bit or make it into a smoothie
Raspberry Leaf Tea - from 34 weeks, there's capsules too
Wearing your best/new knickers - think this was a comedy one
Also acupuncture, moxibustion and homeopathic treatments can be sought. Not recommended Castor Oil or Hot curry to make your stomach cramp and give your womb the hint. Can be messy!!

They explained a stretch and sweep, and all the more intervention induction techniques too.

Start with a positive: all being well, Sunday night will be our first night in the new flat! Grin

I feel rubbish, I've had to give uni a miss today because I'm just feeling like crap and I feel guilty for taking the day off. I'm run down, tired, sore and achy all over and I'm trying to limit myself to one or two cocodamol a day but it isn't easy. I know most of it is probably the iron levels and yet part of me is still stupidly hoping that they've miraculously lifted themselves by the time I'm re-tested tomorrow Hmm Yeah it's not likely at all. On the bright side, once OH has handed in his essay we're going swimming floating Grin

Clearly I'm glad they don't recommend curry... I am not a spicy fan at all!

Bornin1984 · 19/03/2014 09:17

Moomin for ur meds to be effective and manageable you ought to be taking them at the recommended times, 4-6 hourly other wise it's pointless and ineffective! It's fine to take them up until 36 weeks gestation!

Glad your resting your listening to your body just
Try and take the pain relief to ease it

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 19/03/2014 09:22

That'd explain things... Blush thanks bornin, it's stupid I was desperate to get these tablets and now I'm desperately trying to make them last Blush

Bornin1984 · 19/03/2014 09:27

Gamekeepers appt with gp, ask them for codine and paracetamol septet ate that way u can alternate them or get the midwife to sort a prescription! You may find u only need them for a few days and then see how u get on!

NannyPlumForPM · 19/03/2014 09:50

Mmmmmmmorning all mummy's to be! Am fed up of being skint, knackered, fat and tired but on the final stretch now!!

Happy Wednesday :)
