It's great to know what everyone thinks about maternity clothes. I think I'll give them a go in that case. My problem is that I'm abroad at the moment so I have to order things online without trying them on and then wait or family/friends to bring them out to me. I have friends arriving in ten days though so I'm ordering like crazy!

Pinkandwhite · 06/03/2014 18:39

I'm also struggling to sleep comfortably on my side. A friend has lent me a pregnancy pillow but I still don't find it very comfortable.

I was reading the book 'Expecting Better' yesterday and apparently there is some research that sleeping on anything other than your left side after 20 weeks pregnant increases the chance of a stillbirth. Pretty bloody terrifying. The book goes on to say that other research shows it makes no difference though. I do wish there was more accurate and definitive research about pregnancy related stuff. I can't help feeling that lots of risks are overblown in really scary ways.

lucyfluff · 06/03/2014 19:08

Ive been in maternity clothes a good three weeks now, mainly underbump leggings and stretchy jeans, its so nice to feel comfy. I have popped out a lot quicker and my midwife said that does happen the more children you have Hmm I cant wait for the warmer months and stretchy dresses/clothes!!

Im still sleeping really well, DS wakes most nights but dosent take long to settle down again. A good night sleep is five hours in a row hereSmile

I remember laying on the left hand side was explained last time and its purely to get baby laying in the correct position for labour...

Hope your not too tired Hungry - enjoy cuddles with dd Smile

Sorry to hear some of you are still feeling sick, just cross fingers it will pass soon. Very jealous of all of you who can feel baby move, I am 19 weeks now and have felt nothing, really hoping all is ok at scan on friday so I can see baby moving. With regards to maternity wear I am finding bras uncomfortable esp underwired when sitting down so am in sports bra. Did go from 34C to 38D by 12wks,luckily I stopped getting bigger but it feels as if another growth spurt is imminent. I am however very pleased that I have only put on 2lb so far. Glad lots of you have had good 16wk scans and heard heartbeats, really puts your mind at rest.

place marking Smile

FriendofDorothy · 06/03/2014 20:23

I swear by these bras. Not the most glamorous but definitely the most comfortable!

For the last few weeks I have been living in these Joules Alexi tunics with leggings. I have both the floral and the stripey one. Brilliant and so comfortable.

Pinkandwhite · 06/03/2014 21:05

Weeza - I was told not to expect to feel anything until 20 weeks. It depends on the position of your placenta etc doesn't it? I'm sure all will be perfect at your scan.

Friendofdorothy - those bras look so comfy. I think I'll order one to try.

Has anyone got any knicker shop recommendations? I'm so dim, it didn't even occur to me that my knickers probably won't fit me soon!

2beornot · 07/03/2014 06:57

I really need to think about bras too! But everything is so expensive!! I've had to buy jeans, work skirt, vests and combat trousers - I'm hoping that's enough!

On the knicker recommendation - I really need some that will give me some support (I'm going to a wedding and what bump to look like bump not just fat!). Any ideas?

travispickles · 07/03/2014 08:05

I swear by my bump band - holds it all in!

Owlysims · 07/03/2014 08:05

2ve I've found best thing is to wear normal knickers (bigger than usual if needs be!!) pulled under your bump with a bump band over the top and pulled up over your bump - seems to smooth all out for me! :)

Lots of scans today! Good luck Babymamatobe, Hollyjokes, Lakeofdreams and Weeza13!

freedom2011 · 07/03/2014 09:21

hello - I am quietly delurking - may I join?
freedom2011 36 DC1 - 17 weeks 2 days.My next scan is 2 weeks tomorrow so I will probably say more then when I see all is all right.

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 09:42

Oops, my mistake, Lakeofdreams is on the 7th April! Only a month out! Sorry. Blush

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 09:43

Hello freedom, welcome and congratulations! My scan is 2 weeks today so around the same time - I am 17+6 now. Are you planning to find out the sex?

flymo79 · 07/03/2014 09:56

good luck to those having scans today!

I am also having hip pain in the night, and shoulder pain, but I've heard a matress comforter can help. I might invest this weekend. And apparently sleeping on your left side is the best for bloodflow, whereas on your back is bad as you get bigger as the weight of the baby can compress the vena cava. I don't think there's much evidence to say that on your right is bad, it's just not as good as on your left.
Does anyone have any tips for maternity tights? I figure that with our unpredictable weather I'll be in them for a few weeks/months more, and I don't have any comfy trousers so skirts and dresses are my staple work wear at the mo. Am running out of space in normal tights though and they really cut me in two making my top bulge as apparent as my lower bulge!! These are my tips for knickers: seam free and really comfy www.marksandspencer.com/5-pack-no-vpl-high-rise-full-briefs-with-modal/p/p22212902?colour=Black

freedom2011 · 07/03/2014 09:58

secretly thanks for the welcome. I got it wrong, my scan is 2 weeks yesterday so nearer than I thought happily. I probably will, as we only have a girl's name and no agreement on a boy's name at all. So will need to think of one if is a boy. I think it's probably a girl though.

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 10:05

What makes you feel it's a girl, freedom? We are the same - we can think of plenty of girls' names and can't agree on a single one for a boy!

flymo, I rarely wear tights - only hold-ups on the odd occasion I need to. Might they be better? Alternatively have you considered getting some maternity leggings instead? You might get more use out of them as time goes on?

I hadn't thought about buying knickers at all - I just stayed in my normal ones all the way through last time, and then just had a few bigger pairs for the early days after the birth. I'm hoping to do the same this time round!

flymo79 · 07/03/2014 10:15

thanks secretly - I can't really do leggings at work, they're a bit formal and all the men wear suits. Holdups give me chubrub!

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 10:28

Ouch! Have you seen this thread?

jessplussomeonenew · 07/03/2014 10:40

Eek! That's some story! I hate tights normally but will probably have to wear them as my grandmother got really bad varicose veins in pregnancy. My mum managed to avoid them by wearing support tights - she complained that this was most uncomfortable during the 1976 heatwave but the weather forecasters reckon this year will be even hotter! Sigh...

In other clothing news, my new bravado bras just arrived - put one on straight away and it's so comfy. Didn't realise how much my sports bras were compressing me! Strangely my pre-pregnancy jeans still fit fine, though I suspect their days are numbered!

PinaColadas · 07/03/2014 10:41

Flymo, I got some from Asda only 3 a pair, ordered them online for collection from my local store was free. They're only black and 80D which was fine for me Asda

Also H and M do 2 pairs for 7, they have a better choice of colours and Denier. Nothing online but they had lots and lots in store and my H and M is relativey small.

flymo79 · 07/03/2014 10:41

oh my lordy!! that poor woman....

flymo79 · 07/03/2014 10:45

ooh thanks for the tips ladies! my problem really is that I don't have many clothes shops nearby and do have to go online, especially if I don't want to wait for a trip to london... I will check out t'Asda

PinaColadas · 07/03/2014 10:48

Yes I can't ever really be bothered to go in town i've been looking online a lot, got a few ebay bargains, got a pair of maternity jeans almost new for 4 including postage! I don't have any problem with the Asda ones at all.
