My plan re. maternity clothes was just to keep my normal clothes for as long as possible because most of them are kind of loose and/or stretchy anyway. I work at home most of the time so I just wear jogging bottoms and t shirts. I have many jumper dresses and also some dresses like this:

www.hm.com/gb/product/24626?article=24626-C

Also I lost some weight prior to getting pregnant, so I have some things that are a size or two too big for me normally, I'm wearing them now. Obviously this won't be practical for the last couple of months, so I'm planning on getting a empire line maxi dresses as it'll be the middle of summer. A friend gave me some maternity jeans, which I wasn't going to wear, but actually they are awesome. The brand is yesyes but I don't know where they're from. At the moment I'm wearing them with a belt, but they are pretty stretchy and I reckon I'll be able to wear them them until at least 7 months. I have had to buy new pants - I got some under bump ones and one pair of huge over bump ones from Amazon, but I've actually found M&S normal full briefs in the next size up are best, they are big enough to go over the bump for now. Not that it really is a bump, just looks like a big tummy!

I haven't bought any maternity clothes yet, the only things I bought were non-underwired bras (from M&S) as I was told that the underwire can affect breast and milk duct development. My boobs haven't grown yet and I'm hoping to get a few more weeks out of these new bras before they do. It'll be a bravissimo job next and I can't really afford to be buying bras from there too frequently. My pants are still fitting comfortable, I never thought that I might need to get bigger! I've been donated left over (unused!) disposable maternity pants from my cousin and sister-in-law for the few days after the birth.

I hardly ever wear trousers but last time I did I couldn't get them buttoned up (skinny jeans) so I did the hair bobble round the button but I usually wear tights or leggings. Only a couple of my dresses have been uncomfortable so I just don't wear them anymore. I have a lot of dresses that nip in under the bust and then have ties round the back so I'm hoping I can wear those as maternity tops with a pair of leggings. I will invest in maternity leggings, probably quite soon to get my money's worth.

flymo would you not be excused for being a bit more casual considering you are pregnant? I wear leggings quite a lot with heels and that always smartens the outfit up so maybe a pair of low heels or a nice new pair of flats would do for pregnancy?

flymo79 · 07/03/2014 12:08

hi disney, I'll probably revert to leggings in the summer as I may be excused as I become a bit more whale-like, but at the moment I'm trying to keep the corporate look (especially as we're being restructured and there's a lot of "being visible" going on).
Is anyone else worrying about coming back to work after mat. leave already? I have started fretting and wondering if there's anything I can get started up whilst I'm away from work next year....

memedragon · 07/03/2014 12:12

My boobs grew and got uncomfortable in my normal bra ages ago so I bought one of these: www.jmldirect.com/uk/belvia-range/belvia-bra/invt/b13bb60100000001. I was getting backache because of it, my boobs were slightly on the larger side anyway (36C). I tried out various sports bras and maternity bras first but have found this to be by far the best one - it's really comfortable, obviously not as flattering as normal underwired bras but actually looks OK. Got it in Wilkinson's, best buy of my pregnancy so far.

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 12:28

I'm wearing this at the moment - I bought it while I was breastfeeding last time, so it's a nursing bra, but it is really comfortable and I might see if I can get hold of another one.

DisneyDiva87 · 07/03/2014 12:32

I share your pain memedragon I'm normally a 30E (praise the Lord I haven't grown any!) but managed to squeeze comfortably into a 32DD from M&S so got 3 bras for the price of 1 from bravissimo.

I have a wedding to go to on the 1st August, Asda have a plain red knee length maternity dress, that would do for a wedding wouldn't it? Oh they have a nice blue one too.

eurochick · 07/03/2014 12:55

The poor tights woman...

I went into non-wired bras weeks ago.

To the person who asked me whether I was sure I couldn't fit into mat wear, unfortunately yes. I ordered a load and it all just fell off me/looked ridiculous. I have got a couple of dresses from Asos Maternity that were recommended by a friend for the inbetween stage, and they are ok. But I feel like I really need skirts and trousers for work (smart office) and I just haven't had any luck so far. I am bringing up the rear of the August club though (EDD 28 Aug) so maybe in a couple of weeks I will be able to fill it!

jessplussomeonenew · 07/03/2014 17:01

Is it just me or is there something extra special about being pregnant in spring? Just been wandering around the garden and it feels like the whole world is getting ready to flower/fruit/give birth!

Tc80 · 07/03/2014 17:18

Hi all just feel like having a massive whinge hope that's ok! I've got cold sores I can't treat, facial excema has flared up - can't treat and a boil on my bits (midwife recommended bigger knickers - I don't think they can get much bigger), just spent £30 in waitrose on random food due to feeling sick (cream of asparagus soup?) and to top it off hubbie has told me I'm not sexy to him as I'm pregnant - think he was actually trying to be nice by saying he loves seeing me getting a baby bump but it's a different kind of attractive. Still. Rant over :)

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 17:22

I agree, jess. Lovely as well to be just starting to show at this time of year - I gave birth in April two years ago and so it's nice to experience different timings.

We are not planning on having another one, and I have been conscious over the last few days of noticing what my body is doing and really enjoying it, because it's incredible and I won't see it happen again. Bittersweet!

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 17:27

Oh Tc80, that all sounds horrible. Why can't you treat the coldsores? I do see what your husband was trying to say, but perhaps not the most well -thought through comment ever!

weeza13 · 07/03/2014 18:41

Oh tc80, poor you, I am prone to cold sores so I can really sympathise there, If my DH told me I wasn't sexy then sex would be off the table for yonks. Sometimes men just find it all a bit bewildering and are not great at expressing themselves but its still not fun. I had my 20wk scan today, all was good and it was great to see baby getting bigger. Placenta is in the front so was told I may not feel movement for another 2-3 weeks, that feels like ages. Have to have another scan at 36wks to check its moved. Will be nice to see baby again before D.day. Have to now think of boys names. Hope other scans due today also went well

HungryHorace · 07/03/2014 18:52

Weeza, my placenta is anterior too. I've felt odd movements, but nothing much. It's really frustrating / worrying, isn't it?

And a boy? Congrats! :-)

TC, my DH is the opposite. I'd be so hurt if I were you. Maybe he just worded it wrong? Men can be crap at stuff like that. Is there nothing you can use for cold sores?

Secretly, I won't be doing pregnancy again either. It's strange in a way, knowing that. Especially as I've spent most of the last 17 months pregnant! It's normal now. I'm DH's standard wife (I was 4 weeks' pregnant when we got married!).

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 19:23

Congratulations, Weeza! Glad you had a good scan, and hopefully the next scan will show that your placenta has moved.

prettyrobot · 07/03/2014 20:00

Hi Mitchell81,
I have 2 daughters 16/13 and a 10 year old boy, how about you? Feels a bit strange being pregnant again after a 10 year gap! - my kids are appalled and entertained by the prospect in equal measures, they think we are idiots for accidentally getting pregnant!

ClarrissaG Hi, i am getting the flippy feeling like a somersault happening on a small scale.

Shakshuka · 07/03/2014 20:05

I haven't got any maternity clothes either and I'm 18+1 with number 3 so bump definitely getting to be on the big side. I find that I can leave skirts undone at the top (and top cover it) or I can wear dresses. Also, like someone else, I lost weight before I became pregnant so a lot of clothes were quite loose anyway and I can still fit into many of them.

The main reason I'm putting it off is because I know I'll be sick to death of these clothes by the end! I don't want to get too much because this is definitely my last and I won't use the clothes again. So I'm sticking it out as long as possible!

travispickles · 07/03/2014 20:19

Oh the cold sore thing sounds annoying! I am still suffering the after effects of the migraine. I am getting them every 10 days and this one has lasted 4 days from pre to post and I can't take anything. Utterly rubbish as I cannot look after my dd when suffering.

lyns31 · 07/03/2014 21:23

Hi, can I join? Just found out I'm due August 6th instead of September 16th! Had a dating scan come anomaly scan today which was all normal and found out I'm having a girl. Missed out on the nuchal scan though so my genetics risk will be bloods alone.

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 22:30

Hi Lyns31 Smile. Wow, that's a big change in dates! Was it a shock or had you suspected?

Hope you've been well so far. Is this your first?

(There's also a Facebook group running alongside this thread if you want to join that too at any point.)

lyns31 · 07/03/2014 22:42

It was a shock as midwife assured me at booking appointment she couldn't feel anything but I had an inkling then that i'd hit 12 weeks as my breast tenderness and 3pm lethargy had stopped. Still, so exciting to see my baby girl.

Secretlypregnant · 07/03/2014 23:00

Huge congratulations! Will you be having another scan when you hit 20 weeks or did they treat today as the 20 week scan?

My 20 week scan is two weeks today - I really REALLY want time to hurry up now. I'm sitting here working and wondering if the funny sensations I'm feeling are little pushes and shoves from the baby!

lyns31 · 07/03/2014 23:09

I feel little flutters all the time now. Am sure it's her :). Sonographer suggested I'll have another scan but never sure of nhs follow through. I think They answered all the anomaly questions though. So nice to know she looks healthy. He said she looks to be a beautiful baby girl. Little one high fived the scanner lol so I have a shot of her open hand. Apparently it's really unusual and a good indication of healthy neurology.

HungryHorace · 08/03/2014 07:05

Congrats, Lyns! I was chuffed to move a week forwards. 6 must be amazing. :-) And little girls are awesome: my 8 month old is currently chatting away in her cot!

You're due about the same as me as I'm on 7th.

Mitchell81 · 08/03/2014 07:47

So excited I'm having my 16 week scan this afternoon. The boys are going to meet there baby brother or sister aswell.
