Lovely to read all your happy scan stories, keep 'em coming!
Had our 20wk scan yesterday. Everything is fine with our Alien, everything seems to be where it should be. We're keeping the gender a surprise.
I have to admit, it wasn't as nice a scan experience as my 12wk, I kind of got the impression they wanted us in and out. The sonographer didn't turn the screen round so I could see clearly, I was straining trying to half sit up so I could see (I should have asked of course). But main thing is the little womb invader is fine. His (we're convinced it's a boy) kicks are getting stronger by the day which is just the best feeling in the world Grin

Tc80 · 21/03/2014 19:56

Hi all 20 week scan this morning, all good except need to go back next week as they couldn't do the spine measurement - cheeky monkey refused to get off his/her back despite some vigorous dancing round the room from me! A relief to get to this milestone :)
I was so tempted to find out the sex but glad we didn't in the end! Good luck all those with scans coming up xx

Tc80 · 21/03/2014 21:11

Has anyone got experience of using reusable nappies? Id like to give them a go but getting a bit of negativity from friends!

Secretlypregnant · 21/03/2014 21:22

TC80, I have used them almost from the beginning. Mrsgarlic does too. Rosehoney has used them for longer than me. There was a bit of a discussion about it on the FB group and I wrote up some notes that are posted there as a PDF file, if you're planning to join at any point. Otherwise I could email it to you if you pm me.

memedragon · 21/03/2014 21:24

Tc80 I am the same as you - I'd like to try cloth nappies but when I mention this to parents I tend to get a chuckle and "good luck with that!". But people do use them so they must work for some people! I have been reading up and think we might try a combination - maybe disposables for the first month but then start trying out the reusables and see how we get on with that. I've also heard some people use disposables over night because the reusables tend to leak. Also they're probably handy for when out and about.

Secretlypregnant · 21/03/2014 21:32

I know quite a few people who use them and I think the best way to start is with a trial kit - usually available through the local council. We started using them when DD was about 6 weeks, got on great with them. It's like anything - you are learning the ropes at first and then it becomes second nature. There is so much to learn in the early days with a baby, you become very quick at picking up new stuff!

Owlysims · 21/03/2014 22:18

Glad to see all the scans are going well! Tmi time...constipated again and can't face the fybogel again!! Vile!!! So I'm starting lactulose, many others used this? Does it work well? I've had one dose so far and soooo windy!! Poor dh!! Shock

Owly, do you eat much fruit?

I've found that since I'm back at work and eating more fruit I've had less trouble with constipation.

On a normal day I'll have 200ml orange juice, 2 bananas, an apple, 2 satsuma / clementines and a kiwi. And maybe a plum! It's certainly got things on the go. :-)

I know you go to the gym, but do you walk much? That's useful for helping to stimulate bowel movements.

crazylady2013 · 22/03/2014 07:35

Owly, I use Lactulose. To start with I had a large dose (30ml) just to get everything moving again. Then took 15ml every morning until things were back to normal. It seemed to work for me Wink .

Owlysims · 22/03/2014 08:50

Hi thanks for replies I do eat lots of fruit, usually daily a banana, an apple, a plum a punnet of raspberries and some strawberries!! So hardly a fruit dodger! Also I have a dog so do plenty of walking, walked him for 5 miles on Thursday so no idea why I'm bloody constipated again!! So annoying!! Started the lactulose yesterday took two big doses...still nothing so will have to have starter dose again today until things at least start I think!! I feel fit to burst!!!

i find jogging gets everything going for me. even when not constipated! speaking of which I'm off for a 5k! thankfully I've largely avoided constipation, make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids too all the fruit in the world won't help if its all dry as a bone when its getting near the end.

now im out of first trimester do i still need to take folic acid? i forgot to ask the midwife.

DisneyDiva87 · 22/03/2014 09:13

oh and p.s. im planning on using reusable nappies too

eurochick · 22/03/2014 09:15

I have the opposite problem - I'm on day 6 now of a stomach bug. No vomming, but it has given me loose bowels. At first I panicked that it was food poisoning, but it has gone on too long for that. And mr euro has it too. If it is still going on Monday, that will be a full week, so I should probably try to see the GP.

Those quantities of fruit fill me with horror at the moment! I'm trying to eat binding foods - carbs and eggs. Ho hum.

Owlysims · 22/03/2014 09:24

I wish I could still run disney, I used to run 5-8 miles at a time 3 x a week before my bfp as literally as soon as I got pregnant I couldn't even run for 5-10 mins at a time without stopping so had to give it up! Will have to couch to 5k again after baby is born!!

Hello just checking in. Been a rubbish few weeks. My dad is seriously ill in hospital so have spent most time with him.
Trying to stay calm and positive x scan in 2 weeks to look forward too.

HungryHorace · 22/03/2014 09:39

Owly, lactulose takes about 3 days to kick in, apparently.

I'm amazed you're constipated with that much fruit and walking. Rock hard bowels, clearly! :-/

Hew, I hope your dad is better soon.

HungryHorace · 22/03/2014 09:40

Euro, you need the BRAT diet. Banana, rice, apple and toast. Apparently they should help to, umm, solidify things!

Hope you're better soon. :-)

Owlysims · 22/03/2014 10:04

Sorry to hear that hew. Hope he gets well soon.

I know I have no idea why I am either!! So annoying!! Pregnancy eh?! Well I better keep going with the lactulose and look forward to some relief on Monday!! Hopefully!!!

Thanks hungry. I'm just fed up of feeling crap. Since early December it has been one thing after another - first feeling bruised and battered from the IVF, then 3 weeks of bleeding and worry, then preggo nausea and tiredness, then daily headaches, now a week long stomach bug. :( I just want to feel well. Meh.

DisneyDiva87 · 22/03/2014 11:17

I struggled a bit today owly I had to stop and walk a couple of times and my time has gone up by 5 mins so I'm going a good bit slower. I'm going to keep going till the day i have to walk the whole thing! there's another girl who does it who was still going at 8 and a half months. At 17+2 I think I'm doing very well indeed.

hope your dad gets gets better hew remember to take care of yourself and the baby too, no one else can do that but other people can help your dad.

And I hope everybody's movements sort themselves out Grin

Lissbug · 22/03/2014 11:50

this made me laugh. don't feel this way myself but i can sympathise with it!

Morning! This thread randomly vanished from what Im on?! oh well found you and caught up...Smile

18weeks today and Im suffering a bit with constipation, started taking lactulose again so it should ease this week...fingers crossed. I also feel quite achy but im putting it down to baby growing and being low down in my pelvis some days it feels so tight. 12 days until my scan!!

Good luck to all the upcoming scanees I hope the babiea behave Smile

lyns31 · 22/03/2014 13:43

I was constipated till I started a bowl of all-bran in the mornings. Problem is once my bowels kicked in again I had a horrible fright; toilet was full of bright red blood. Took a minute to work out it wasn't coming from where I'd be worried about. Anal fissure in second tri, really hope that doesn't get worse as pregnancy progresses but was such a relief that it wasn't anything else. Wish I was a runner like some of you ladies then perhaps I could have prevented that.

Glad people are having healthy scans. Good luck to those still waiting, and Hew, hope your dad gets better.

lyns31 · 22/03/2014 13:50

*better soon.

Really wish we could edit posts on MN.

mssleepyhead · 22/03/2014 15:42

Hello all,
Quick 10 minute scan this morning; just long enough to tell us... It's a boy! Thrilled - it's made it so much more real!
