yea it's the first grandchild for my mum and dad secretly my cousin had a baby 2 Christmases ago (mum's sister) so think my mum is over the moon that it's her turn now. Unfortunately, we live in scotland and all grandparents are in ireland but I sometimes wonder if that won't turn out to be the perfect arrangement for us. Smile

I think my bump has grown a lot in last 5 days and I suspect the baby is now sitting on my bladder as I started peeing with stupid frequency yesterday. I'm on a course too so had to keep waiting for appropriate moments to slip out.

good luck to everyone with scans today!

mssleepyhead · 18/03/2014 10:03

Good luck scan peeps! I have a gender scan on Saturday and am starting to get excited about seeing baby again but I'm also wondering if we've done the right thing having this scan before the 20 week one. I'm worried I'll get even more attached, and then if something goes wrong till be even worse. I know that's pretty silly because no matter what's gone before it a problem at the 20 week scan will be awful, but... Well. It's just another thing to worry about isn't it?? And so it goes...

2beornot · 18/03/2014 12:44

Hungry - not finding out sex tomorrow. DH, DD and I will go to a private scan at 28 weeks. Spreading the excitement out!!

Disney - I too am going to the toilet loads! Could bensby or could be because I'm drinking loads to try to reduce water retention!

Mssleepy - I'm sure it will all be fine. I'm not sure we'll stop worrying til baby's here (and then it'll be a different type of worry!)

flymo79 · 18/03/2014 12:45

anyone else getting plied with food at work? I have a male colleague who keeps buying naughty treats, not eating them himself and saying "the baby needs it". Then I feel bad about letting it all go to waste!! my tum is not thanking me.....

DreamPhone · 18/03/2014 13:06

Afternoon ladies Smile

The scans are coming thick and fast now! Good luck to all those who are up today. Can't believe we're at the half way point already!

Mine is on Thursday - I'm so excited to find out the sex I think I might burst! Does anyone have strong feelings as to whether they're having a boy or girl? I'm thinking girl still but we'll see Smile

jessplussomeonenew · 18/03/2014 13:55

Great to hear about all the scans, and good luck to all those with scans coming up soon.

For the last few days I've been having an intermittent but worsening pain in the lower right of my abdomen - just on one side, and not really cramp-like. I called the midwife, who reckons it's a ligament stretching as the uterus grows upwards, which makes sense as I am just in the early stages of getting a bump, but it seems odd to me that it's so one-sided. Anybody else had this, and if so how long did it last?

DreamPhone · 18/03/2014 14:13

Jess I've been having something similar on and off for the last few days though in various locations around my abdomen, not just on one side. It's not a cramping feeling as such and I wouldn't even call it painful - just a weird, very localised feeling. It sort of feels like a long, thin needle slowly jabbing me or like an elastic band stretching. I just put it down to ligaments stretching but was going to mention it to see if anyone else had experienced similar! For me it comes in bursts of three or four jabs and then nothing for a bit, hope it's normal...

thebestnameshavegone · 18/03/2014 14:37

jess all my ligament pain has been on my left side, but the baby seems to be much more over on that side. it was worse around 18-19 weeks and has eased off a bit now.

had my scan this morning and all is well Smile we didn't find out the sex. the baby apparently has long legs (which definitely don't come from me!!) but thankfully a very average sized head. dh's head is massive, so I was a bit worried!

good luck to everyone else xx

flymo79 · 18/03/2014 15:33

I am becoming increasingly worried about being made redundant while on ML. Just mentioned it to my colleague and she said "they can't do that, you're protected" but it's clear from the advice on here that doesn't wash... they would only have to prove that they hadn't made me redundant JUST because I was pregnant/on mat.leave and surely if they're restructuring then that's their backup. Oh dear. Really don't want to spend the next four months stressing about this!!

2beornot · 18/03/2014 17:31

Flymo - the only way they could get rid of you is if there were no posts at your level, suitable for you. If there is then you get priority over anyone else who is also suitable.

Must be a scary time though!

travispickles · 18/03/2014 18:53

So I had the scan and have to go back next week as he kept putting his hand over his face so she couldn't do the face or photo. But I am having a boy this time

flymo79 · 18/03/2014 18:58

Congrats Travis!
Thanks 2be, will keep looking into it as there is much conflicting info out there.

HungryHorace · 18/03/2014 19:38

Congrats, Travis. Exciting! :-)

travispickles · 18/03/2014 19:48

Yes but really venturing into the unknown. No boys in our family!

2beornot · 18/03/2014 19:53

Congrats Travis! And double scan excitement!!!

mssleepyhead · 18/03/2014 19:57

maaaaaan. had to cancel my midwife appointment at the last minute today... Oftsed called : ( it's going to be a late few nights! and very not good for the blood pressure... : (

travispickles · 18/03/2014 20:27

Don't cancel midwife for ofsted, and if your blood pressure goes up then you don't go in. I know we are brainwashed into believing that ofsted are be all and end all but you don't risk your or baby's health for then!! (Can you tell I am also a teacher?!) I seriously think I ended up with the birth from hell last time partly because I didn't prioritise my pregnancy.

Lissbug · 18/03/2014 21:43

I had a bit of a scare yesterday. Went to the loo and had some bright red blood when I wiped. Panicked and while I didn't have any more blood for the rest of the afternoon, I went to see my consultant. He did a scan and everything was fine. Little man's heartbeat was strong and he was waving his arms around! I had a similar thing at 13 weeks. He say it might be because I gave a low placenta but it has freaked me out. Am 17+5 and don't gave my 20 week scan until 7 April. That's soo far away. Not sure I can wait that long to check he is okay again.....anyone else had something similar on the bleeding front?

Owlysims · 18/03/2014 21:44

Oh lissbug how scary, glad baby is all okay ThanksThanks

OP posts:
lyns31 · 18/03/2014 22:21

Lissbug, hope your placenta rises and the bleeding doesn't continue.

Congrats on your little man Travis.

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow. Doubt I'll relax till I have a healthy baby in my arms then I guess after a moment of relaxing it'll be a lifetime of worrying about her!

mssleepyhead · 19/03/2014 06:59

Lissbug, not identical but I have had spotting from week 7. Sometimes it's brown discharge, a lot of the time it's a few drops of brown blood. It scares me too, but my sister (a few weeks further along than me) has had red blood spotting and it's all been fine so I'm trying not to worry too much. It's good that you saw him and he's fine : )

My 20 week scan is on 9th April and can't wait either!

On the ofsted thing, I know I shouldn't have cancelled... I wasn't asked to but I kind of wanted to. I've been waiting for this inspection a long time and I want to just do my best in it. Kind of regretting that after waking up having "popped out" and feeling huge already! But maybe that will make them go easy on me?! I moved my appointment to next week, which is actually when the midwife originally wanted to see me so hopefully it's ok.

Good luck on any scan today everyone

HungryHorace · 19/03/2014 07:47

I'm glad everything is ok, Liss :-)

April does seem a long way away, doesn't it?

Heck, next Weds does!

flymo79 · 19/03/2014 08:22

oh eek, hope all ok Liss xx

2beornot · 19/03/2014 10:24

On my way to work after scan! All healthy and normal measurements! Starting to countdown now - 21 weeks down, 19 to go!!

flymo79 · 19/03/2014 12:22

congrats 2be!
