For those with headaches: have you tried fennel tea? I was recommended it by someone who drank it everyday during her pregnancy to ward off migraines and I find it strangely soothing.

My scan is in a couple of weeks, it is apparently a rather indepth scan because they are checking organs and their function - if I've understood correctly (technical medical stuff in German is not easy). What do they do for the 20 week scan in the uk? I only feel baby in the evening (or when I get a chance to sit down and relax if DS is napping) but I really like it when DH puts his hand on my belly and I can feel her move under his hand in the way DS used to :)

Ps we're team yellow but my feeling is girl.

MrsNutella · 11/03/2014 19:19

Oh, I have a moby horace have you used one before? It took me a while to figure it out with DS but I'm really looking forward to putting new baba in there and having that warm close baby feeling again. DS will go in his ergo (we started using the ergo when he was about 6+ months old - tiny babies look so lost in a big carrier to me) but it isn't the same as that close feeling when they are small and snugly :)

HungryHorace · 11/03/2014 19:32

Nutella, yes the 20 week scan is for anomalies. It's not actually a gender scan, which so many people use it as!

I've not used a Moby before, no. Looking forward to it though. I'm hoping to perfect breast feeding in it. :-)

I think I've felt baby wriggling again tonight. Maybe. Hopefully!

Shakshuka · 11/03/2014 19:45

I had a moby wrap (sadly gave it away, can't even remember who to) and I loved it. It did tend to go a bit saggy as the baby gets heavier but definitely good for the first year. I also had a storchenwiege which I'm delighted that my SIL has said she still has and will give back. That was a less flexible wrap and a bit harder to get the baby in and out but really supportive for my back. And we had an ergo which has also long disappeared. I loved my slings! I'll definitely get another moby for the first few months.

2beornot · 11/03/2014 21:51

I never had a sling with dd but am looking forward to trying. Moby wrap with this one. Are they ok if you have big boobs? Just a bit worries about suffocating the poor thing!

Tomorrow marks the half way point!

Shakshuka · 12/03/2014 00:36

I'm reasonably well endowed and I never found slings a problem. The baby's head is usually chest height so a bit above the boobs

Ruggle · 12/03/2014 08:03

Can anyone tell me if it's normal for scars on a growing belly to itch more than normal skin? I have developed patches of eczema fron scratching my belly in my sleep, but I have several large chicken pox scars that have crusted over and are terribly itchy....and I'm hoping it's related to them being scars rather than being something to do with chicken pox or shingles!

DisneyDiva87 · 12/03/2014 08:38

I think scar tissue is less 'stretchy' Ruggle so it would itch more as your belly starts to grow, just moisturise often to try and soothe it. I use baby oil in the shower (stops you getting horrendously greasy) and then use stretch mark moisturising cream (the bump&me one) when I get out as well.

I wish I could feel the baby, I went for a run last night and was hoping that I would feel the baby move after it being bounced around for a half hour but I stood outside chatting to my pal for ages so I didn't get a chance to try and notice

memedragon · 12/03/2014 09:43

Wondering if anyone else is having digestive problems, and if you have any remedies? I had horrid indigestion, bloating and constipation in my first trimester, I thought it was done with but it appears to be back with a vengeance. It's something I occasionally suffered from before I was pregnant too. Have been taking the usual Gaviscon, Rennie and peppermint tea but nothing helps. I might go to the doctor and see if she can prescribe me something, last night it was so awful I could hardly move and the pain of nearly made me cry! Any tips in the meantime would be much appreciated.

lyns31 · 12/03/2014 10:00

Ruggle, if it were shingles you'd have severe nerve pain accompanying fresh bumps. My poor dad has it just now. Scars can itch when they stretch though. Get checked out if you're worried at all though.

eurochick · 12/03/2014 10:31

Hi ladies, are any of you experiencing period-type cramps? I'm unsure whether I should give the mw a ring. For the past 2 days I have had some crampyness. Google seems to be ambiguous as to whether this is normal or something to be concerned about.

DisneyDiva87 · 12/03/2014 10:49

I sometimes get mild cramping (it feels more like I'm being stretched inside, which is probably what is actually happening) but it never lasts long and is infrequent Euro. If it's been happening for a while and is quite painful or you are getting it regularly I would definitely phone the MW. They might bring you in for a check or a scan which would put your mind at rest.

Sorry dragon, I've no tips other than making sure you are getting plenty of fibre and maybe try to cut out starchy foods like bread. I imagine you already know that or do it if it is a common problem for you. Make sure you are getting plenty of water and avoid too much sugary foods too.

eurochick · 12/03/2014 10:56

This feels different to the stretching pains I have had pretty much all the way through. It is much more like period cramps. I've dropped the mw a line anyway.

DisneyDiva87 · 12/03/2014 11:51

Let us know how it goes Euro will keep my fingers crossed that it is just baby being active and causing irritation.

I'm sure it will be fine.

DisneyDiva87 · 12/03/2014 12:26

Just had a thought that might make you feel less worried Euro a pal of mine is pregnant (9weeks) and she has had quite bad cramping from the start, it was so bad they thought she was ectopic or miscarrying but she wasn't and the baby is still going strong. She heard the heart beat for the first time yesterday when she went for a scan (after bleeding on Saturday).

flymo79 · 12/03/2014 12:42

Euro, my friend who is 21wks said she had such bad cramping she thought it was something really serious so the MW gave her a scan. Everything was fine. I am also having worse cramps than I experienced earlier on, they're like period pains, and hoping it's just all normal. Let us know what the MW says

Ruggle · 12/03/2014 12:51

Eurochick

I've had period type pain on and off. First time I had it (really bad, lasting all night) I woke the next day with a very upset stomach, and a midwife said that an upset tummy can irritate the uterus causing these pains.
I also get it if I need a big poop. I don't realise I need a big poop...so I get really worried, but then a few hours later I do the big poop and the pain calms down.
I also got it the other weekend, which lasted all night again, waking me up several times, but rather than poop it seems to be accompanying my bump getting bigger. I woke up with a bowl-shaped firm bump, which wasn't there the day before....so on that occasion I think it was just "stretching" pain. However, each time, it is exactly like period pain. Dull, achy, mild to quite painful, though never as bad as my "usual" period pain (which can be horrendous).

DisneyDiva87 · 12/03/2014 13:40

I have another random question (2 actually). Is anyone else still wearing heels and how do you know when it's time to get out the flats?

flymo79 · 12/03/2014 13:47

disney - I have given up already. with the shifting centre of gravity thing I wasn't prepared to take any risks and also my back has been too achey to bother in heels. It's obviously personal choice, I wanted to get used to being in flats every day. (well, I say flats, they're brogues so still with a small heel - 0.5 inch)

eurochick · 12/03/2014 14:00

Thanks all. mw said she wasn't worried as long as I still "felt pregnant". Which I don't really, and haven't since I got into the 2nd tri. But it sounds like it is fairly common so I will try not to worry too much. My appointment on Monday can't come soon enough though!

ruggle i've been wondering if it could be digestion related. I have had a real thing for jalapenos and chillis lately... I guess my bowel could be a bit irritated and having a knock on effect

disney I had very severe cramps in the first tri. They accompanied the start of my 3 week bleed (which fortunately didn't mean Bad Things, although it was very worrying).

I am still wearing heels around the office but I have long walked to work in flats and then changed, so I am not covering any distance in anything more than a kitten heel at the moment. I don't feel that I am any less stable than usual in them.

Cazbg · 12/03/2014 14:53

I have been really achey and uncomfortable as well over the last few days but seems to have eased a bit today so guessing it is just stretching pains - I am hoping that I will soon wake up with a proper bump :)
I find it really hard the comment of "if you feel preganant" you should be fine as like you I have not felt that pregenant for the last few weeks.... but the mw said that was normal... so conflicting herself in one sentence!

memedragon · 12/03/2014 15:10

I have not been getting cramps really, but today I feel quite uncomfortable around my back and sides in the pelvic area. I wonder if this might be to do with my horrendous indigestion attack though. Towards the end of my first trimester I got round ligament pain quite a lot, but haven't had so much recently.

Disney - yes, I think I had better take a look at my diet. I have been eating a lot of sugar lately, and I do love bread. Whenever this has happened before I make changes and am very virtuous until it goes away, but then once I feel fine I go back to some bad habits. I mean, my diet isn't terrible or anything, but I do have a fondness for some unhealthy things. It's just weird because it sneaks up on me without warning, one day I'm fine and the next I'm in agony! I am going to the doctor next week to see if she can prescribe me something that will help if I have another attack. But yes, in the meantime, prevention is better than cure!

DisneyDiva87 · 12/03/2014 15:57

Hope you get it sorted out dragon it does not sound pleasant and I hate even being a tiny bit bloated.

Have you tried having smaller portions as well? I found halving my portions and having lunch1 at 11ish and lunch2 at 2ish much more manageable and I don't get quite so bloated either. Plus it means I'm less tempted to have chocolate biscuits for a mid morning snack.

I'm still in heels but I don't walk very far I have bought 1 nice new pair of flat pumps but will have to look out for a couple more pairs, although ones with a small heel would be nice.

Jenbee1 · 12/03/2014 16:18

Im still in heels at work. I don't tend to wear them at home anyway. Helps keep my very long maternity trousers from dragging on the floor as I can't be bothered taking them up

Jenbee1 · 12/03/2014 16:19

Just noticed you can upload pictures on mn. Is that new?
