Old thread is getting full so here's a nice new one for all our moaning, paranoia and getting each other through it. Can someone do the honers and copy our edd list over? Maybe link the old thread too?

OP posts:

Akachan if you drink white or rose why not have a spritzer? You can minimise the alcohol and have more lemonade or tonic water!

binkybunny · 21/02/2014 11:30

kat also had the same but was assured it was perfectly normal! If they are not seeing you til Monday they cant think its too serious? I was whisked off by ambulance which was scary but all was fine in the end. Easier said than done but try not to worry!

mrsb ingenious idea! Theres still some people we havent told and antibiotics can only be used for so long!

My boobs are growing at quite a scary rate. Needing to get a new bra this week already. Def need one with padding to hide nipples big enough to hang coats off. Its quite embarrasing talking to people at work when I look either cold or horny Blush

Mrsthedog · 21/02/2014 11:41

My boobs haven't really got bigger (good job too - they are already a G cup. Any bigger and I will have to wheel them permanently on a padded trolley in front of me) but they are like organ stops at all times.

I am thinking of investing in nipple pads or something so they are not so obvious.

You could always go the other way, however and invest in some of these:

ohthegoats · 21/02/2014 12:09

Mrsdog, mine didn't get bigger until the last few days. 8 weeks in. They've been really sore, and last week I accidentally brushed my nipple and cried because it hurt so much, but they hadn't really grown much. Today I have the dreaded double boob.

ToffeeJungle · 21/02/2014 12:13

My boobs have got bigger though I was only a C cup to start with and last time I only went up to a D cup so nothing too obvious / big (thank goodness!).
I do remember the gorging after I'd given birth though, OUCH!! And the squirting out of milk uncontrollably.... and the leaks.... and the sodden breast pads.... and the nipple pain....!! The joys!! Wink

mum2kiss · 21/02/2014 13:44

Is anyone else suffering from a sour taste at the back of their mouth? Ive had it for about a week now and its making me crazy. Ive realised that it is not there when i wake up in the morning but as soon as I eat breakfast its there and stays for the rest of the day until I brush my teeth and tongue at night. So today I brushed immediately after breakfast then had nothing but water until lunch...no bad taste! Ive kust had lunch and the bad taste has returned so I will brush again and go bacl to water until dinner. Not sure how I'll be able to keep up this ritual at work next week but I feel so yuck and pukey when I have this constant bad taste!

porcito · 21/02/2014 15:46

It's so hard to stay calm! Good luck Kat. bingobango85 Google is the devil. After they told me they'd found bleeding near the sac I spent so many nights wailing about all the horrific things it could be. There are definitely too many horror stories out there. Lots of positive ones too, they're just harder to find! My poor DP has been back to the doctor about 15 times to get her to reassure me. I think the poor woman's bordering on taking out an injunction on me.

BingoBango85 · 21/02/2014 16:25

Porcito-you've made my day. Took the day to walk the pooches and see my Nanna; feel better just for that. Also sorted out dinner with friends and something to do tomorrow as a happy distraction x

KittyVonCatsington · 21/02/2014 16:48

Afternoon! A very tentative hello to this thread-11DPO today, AF due date and got a faint line on a FRER. Mumsnet's due date calculator says 1st November 2014 but can I hop onto the back of this thread until the November one gets into full swing?? Am going to read back over this thread to get some tips and try to calm myself down a little bit! It's nice to see so many familiar names Smile

MundayCakes85 · 21/02/2014 16:57

Hello Kitty congratulations, stay with us as long as you like.
Felt grim after lunchtime cereal, maybe the milk didn't agree with me? And i thought i was being good driving straight past McDonalds! Starving again now though, surely fish and chips from the chippy is acceptable as its Friday??

ohthegoats · 21/02/2014 17:10

My day has got increasingly worse as it's gone on... I feel particularly bad today. Achey all over as if I'm ill (perhaps I am), cramps (possibly wind, who knows), feel incredibly sick and shivery. Meh. Took a paracetamol and have sat on the sofa since 11am watching nonsense film after nonsense film.

BingoBango85 · 21/02/2014 17:24

Yay Kitty you've joined us. Get ready for time to slow down, practically stop, as you worry over every ache and cramp! I myself have spent 3 days back and forth from early pregnancy unit...at one point laying flat on my face passed out on the floor! U thought the tww felt like an age...... Wink

sazzlehopes · 21/02/2014 17:29

Kitty! Hooray so exciting to see you on here!
Akachan, agree with mrsb spritzer as most people won't notice, or else lie and say you had a really heavy night last night on the booze and can't face wine. People I find believe that over the antibiotics thing!

Trouble we used reusable with ds and I will do it again. Totally easy, saved a fortune and the environment!!. Puppy no need for babies to cost anything really. eBay and second hand sales are your friend, you would not believe the bargains and in great condition too. Don't panic! They get more expensive later on when they actually ask for stuff but the first year they are so cheap!!

KittyVonCatsington · 21/02/2014 17:45

Oh...My....God! Bingo - are you ok? That sounds awful! This is going to be one long journey isn't it??!! Great to see you away from the conception buses Sazzle, I think this first-timer is going to rely on your knowledge Grin

pebble82 · 21/02/2014 18:00

Welcome kitty! Recognise your name from Feb bus. Congratulations. Unfortunately as others have said, the tww was nothing compared to the 8 week slog (EWS??). But stay positive and DON'T GOOGLE ANYTHING!

My mum had some good wisdom for me which was if everytime you got in a car, on a plane or on a train and googled stories of crashes you'd never go anywhere. What will be will be, don't make bad experiences part of your life before they actually happen

FlipFantasia · 21/02/2014 19:02

Pebbles wise words from your mum! Someone else's experience is not yours.

Mum2kiss yup to the manky taste. Was one of my first signs, before even my bfp. Had to buy a new flavour of toothpaste though as my old one tasted so horrible (along with tonnes of my favourite foods!).

Ohthegoats hope you're not coming down with anything. Feeling fluey and being preggers is horrible.

Puppy definitely no need to freak out about cost! Another fan of washable nappies and handmedowns and generally doing things on the cheap (Nct run great nearly new sales for instance and our local netmums site was good for buying secondhand too). Also I found maternity leave a really good way to learn to live on less, eg packed lunch picnics and hanging out with friends, free classes (libraries are great, as are children's centres). Nct can be expensive but was definitely money well spent in our experience. Childcare once back at work can be expensive but, gear-wise, babies are as cheap as you want to go.

Trouble looks like we're due date buddies again Smile as my edd has switched to 7 oct after last week' scan and this morning's midwife appointment. I was thinking on my drive home about how you had your son 3 weeks early and I had my daughter at 40+2 so there's nearly a month between them. So funny to think how it will work this time!

The midwife this morning was great. Incredibly different from the NHS (involved wearing a gown, full breast exam, smear test, full on vaginal exam, bloods etc). But she thinks I'd be a good candidate for a water birth and intermittent monitoring - entirely different from my battle last time to get a vbac that didn't involve continuous fetal monitoring! Feeling quite cheerful Smile

CareBearWithFangs · 21/02/2014 19:19

Evening, just catching up on all the posts.
Pebble good advice from your mum.
Thanks For everyone whose feeling rough.
Puppy dog- which costs were you worrying about in particular? I agree with everyone else you can make the first year as cheap as you want to really. Although my DP is already worrying about the cost of putting 2 children through university.

Welcome newbies Smile

sazzlehopes · 21/02/2014 19:55

Bingo so sorry you're having such a shocking time. Really hope things improve for you soon. Take good care of yourself x

Yay flip more washable nappy fans! May I ask you too...so this is your dc3. Was first cs? Then 2nd vbac? I only ask because I had cs with my dc1 and now I'm worried about my options and how much they'll want to monitor me this time.

impatienceisavirtue · 21/02/2014 20:05

Glad to see a lot of names I recognise from conception board!

sazzle I regret not pushing for a vbac after emcs with dc1, and that I didn't know enough about it. Most places support it now.

I used cloth with dc3 until he was about 16 months but stopped due to them being difficult for a complicated reason as a result of a serious medical condition he developed but I think I'll be using them this time. GuttediI got rid of most of his amazing stash.

My growing boobs? They're flaming leaking!!! Well one is, the one that was always the, er, top performer ha ha. Quite a lot as well! I'm only four weeks!

My skin is also hideous - broke out really badly in past few days

FlipFantasia · 21/02/2014 20:30

Hi Sazzle yes dc1 was an emcs (induced at 42 weeks, hyperstimulated immediately with one pessary, which is v rare! Ended up with a crash c section for prolonged decels/foetal distress). I found the recovery very hard so I really wanted a vbac second time around (my son was 2 just before I was due and wanted to be able to pick him up etc). But I had really hated the continuos foetal monitoring (flat on my back, couldn't move a muscle or they lost the trace). They were really supportive of a vbac and I got them to agree to intermittent monitoring and starting off in the midwife led birth centre (which was a bit of a fight and involved appts with consultant obs and midwives). In the end, I delivered on the labour ward as my dd passed meconium so I needed CFM. It was still an excellent experience and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

But actually having a doula really helped me 2nd time around. She didn't 'do' anything (I don't like being touched in labour so massages and that kind of thing aren't my cup of tea). But she supported both me and dh brilliantly and I'm definitely having a doula this time around (have started saving already!).

I also really rate hypnobirthing (I think some others have had success with this too). It helps keep me calm in pregnancy too (helps me sleep!).

Ok, enough of a ramble from me!

MrsDinoRawr · 21/02/2014 20:32

Been reading but not posting as still pretty nervous after having some spotting but thought i would share my embarrassing moment. Am 7 weeks today and have had morning sickness every morning and some evenings for the last week. Ventured out of the house (luckily it has been half term so i have had a week off). We were on the way home and i felt sicker and sicker. Managed to hold it back for 20 mins. 5 mins from the house i couldn't hold it back any longer. Made my husband pull over so I could be sick on the grass verge. He said the family were sat in the front room. Have never been so ashamed!!!

TroubleAndFyfe · 21/02/2014 20:52

Wow Flip, that's pretty amazing that we're due date buddies again! Smile Yep, my son was born at 36+6 so a pretty big age gap considering!

puppythedog · 21/02/2014 21:52

Thanks for the comments about making it cheap, it is reassuring. We have never planned to buy loads of new stuff, grandparents can of course Wink

It's that I looked at our outgoings with unchangeable bills and my income covers those and a bit left over but not enough. I kind of understand it will be alright and I guess this is merely my sense of responsibility feeding on itself. As much as anything else I don't know what our income will be because of not being sure about mrsthedog's maternity pay and what other money comes in. We rent a lovely house which we picked to have children in but it does cost Confused.

Anyway, my abstract worries are just that, I think if we were wealthy I would be worrying about something else, maybe even just that I've never been a dad before. Thanks for the tips about NCT, we're going to prioritise the money for the before and after course.

Any recommendations for reusable nappies? are they still the terry fowling things I remember from the eighties.

mum2kiss · 21/02/2014 22:27

Cloth nappies have come long way! No more giant safety pins! Its velcro and poppers all the way! When I had my dd my Local.council offered £30 towards the cost of.purchasing a set if you showed proof of.purchase so check with your local councils to see if they have a similar scheme!

TroubleAndFyfe · 22/02/2014 00:01

We got a £50 real nappies voucher from the council and got all the rest from freecycle so birth to potty we spent £50 on nappies which will obviously do our second baby too! Fitted reusables are the easiest as they are poppers or Velcro with a waterproof cover that hoes over the top. You can also get pockets which are all in one (no separate cover) but you stuff the pocket with inserts (in my experience this is awkward to do, not very reliable in terms of leaks and you have to wash the whole thing every time whereas with the fitteds you can just change the nappy and reuse the cover unless it becomes soiled) there are also prefolds which are similar to terries, a rectangular piece of cloth which you fold and fasten (with a nappy nippa (google it) not a pin these days) then use a waterproof cover over the top. Prefolds are very cheap and are what we started with. You can get a good fit as you're folding to the size of the baby and they're quick to dry. We then went to all fitteds as were given loads through freecycle and they are a bit quicker and easier. I have newborn size fitteds now too, some given by a friend and some that I bought at a boot fair for £1 for a sack. Both lots are currently lent out to friends with babies but I'll have them back for October. Happy to help with specifics/answer any questions Puppy.
