Old thread is getting full so here's a nice new one for all our moaning, paranoia and getting each other through it. Can someone do the honers and copy our edd list over? Maybe link the old thread too?

Re: One Born
Some people can be put off by it especially if your a first time mum, but it didn't bother me, it just has two sets of mums on each week, and it shows you them in labour and giving birth, but each mother have different backgrounds and its just interesting to see how different mums/partners deal with the whole thing, maybe at least watch one, you might find its not your cup of tea, x

sazzlehopes · 20/02/2014 13:33

Pebble you'll be fine. Birth isn't easy but it isn't horrid. It's hard work but you get the best thing EVER at the end! Some woman love a horror story, but honestly it is ok. (And this is from someone whos homebirth ended with emergency c section. Not what I planned, but still absolutely fine and happy to do it again!!!)

SweetPeaPods · 20/02/2014 13:54

I'll be watching OBEM, agree about it passing the weeks.
I have friends that couldn't watch it while pregnant, but personally I found it interesting. Totally recommend NCT classes too. We did them last pg and you need to sign up early but def worth the money. I still meet up with the other mums (7 of us) every week. But the info given was good too.
I also found hypnobirthing useful, and aqua natal classes were a great little bit of me time.

queenasanti3 · 20/02/2014 14:00

Quick question, is aqua natal classes different to aqua aerobics, because I cant seem to see any aqua natal classes in my area, and also iam 7 weeks pregnant will I be ok starting now or waiting till the 2nd trimester ??

pebble82 · 20/02/2014 14:03

Would love to do loads of classes but no idea hoe I'd find the time with full time work.

Mrsthedog · 20/02/2014 14:57

Surely I don't have to do my massive piles of marking now I am pregnant, right? OFSTED will understand, right? :)

ohthegoats · 20/02/2014 15:04

Ofsted didn't understand 2 weeks ago when I had to be observed three times. Was trying not to be sick the whole way through the second lesson.

Admittedly they didn't know etc, but it's nice to bad mouth them at any possible opportunity.

CareBearWithFangs · 20/02/2014 15:05

Pebble apparently time off for classes should be included as part of your time off for appointments etc. my work were really good with this last time. Maybe have a read of your maternity policy and see if it's covered?

Mrsthedog · 20/02/2014 15:12

ohthegoats - observed THREE times??

Wow. Well done for not being sick - it is fairly difficult even when you're not pregnant. ;)

Seriously though, I am a little worried about how I am going to keep up this term with the lesson planning and marking etc. I tend to work around 60 hours a week at the moment and I know that this cannot continue when the tiredness sets in during the evenings.

How do pregnant teachers cope?

ohthegoats · 20/02/2014 15:17

I know, sucks doesn't it. Small school, I'm in year 6 - they wanted to see literacy and numeracy being taught in 6, and also how our PE funds have been spent, which was them watching me having CPD sessions (lessons) with a sports coach.

I have no idea how I'll be by the summer! I stand up all day.. since half term started, I've been doing stuff all morning like walking, unpacking boxes (just moved house), cooking when I can etc, but by 2 ish I'm having to sit down with my feet up and have a nap. I've decided that I'm going to try bringing my marking home with me (I never do that usually), so I can nap from 3.30 - 4.30, then work again a bit later.

Year 6 though means a load of marking and stress this term. Boo.

TroubleAndFyfe · 20/02/2014 15:29

Can't wait for OBEM! Smile
Pebbles DS's birth was the most amazing experience - I loved it and said straight away I'd do it again tomorrow. I had an amazing relaxed hypno-water birth (despite him arriving 1 day prematurely and me not being allowed my planned home birth) actually had to get out and lay on my back to get him out too as he was back to back and just not budging but still, brilliant! I'll be having a home birth with this one with any luck! Smile
Yes, aqua natal is different from aqua aerobics and wonderful! N Londoners the one at crouch new was great! I suffered with very bad PGP/SPD and it helped so much and was so calming. I've moved now and don't think they do one near here which is a shame as I'm pretty much guaranteed to get the same problems again.

porcito · 20/02/2014 15:34

mrsthedog, I've become the laziest teacher on the planet. I'm just lucky we don't have any hideous ofsted types where I live. I've used a lot of peer marking, and things like that. As I'm on 'rest', I'm not allowed to walk around, which means they can bring work to me throughout the lesson to look over. Obviously not ideal, but gets a little bit done.

In terms of planning, also a huge failure. I'm so tired when I get home I can't even stay awake. I've done lots of them taking classes, with presentations / revision guides etc., which works well with older ones...hoping the exhaustion doesn't last for much longer! I've also told a few people at school who have been great at coming in for 15 minutes when I need to lock myself in the bathroom! We're also preparing for a school production in a month, which I'm in charge of. So hard to be enthusiastic after school about that when I just want my bed!!!

ohthegoats · 20/02/2014 15:39

Luckily I haven't been sick at school, just felt manky. My TA will be great though once she knows.

The thing I feel bad about, is organising residentials for next years year 6 cohort (who are very hard work), when everyone thinks I'll be taking them, but it's more likely that I won't be, and am dumping someone else in it. Obviously if something goes wrong for me, I'll be going, which is fine.. but it's a bit of an ask for others. Eek.

porcito · 20/02/2014 15:45

I'm in the same boat now, trying to organise a residential for my year group that I won't be able to go on. Because my school's so small, I think most people know by now so everyone's been quite understanding. I'm sure people will understand for you when they find out. I'm one of the only females in the school who enjoys going out on outdoor trips which means some of the old dears have had to dust off their tents. They're not happy and I feel so bad! Supposed to be on one in a few weeks involving throwing myself off a cliff. Don't think that comes under 'rest' so had to cancel! I'm guarding my coffee in the staffroom in case anyone spits in it!

ohthegoats · 20/02/2014 15:50

I've had 4 people separately make 'jokes' about me and babies. I reckon they've got a sweep stake going. I had my 40th birthday weekend, Ofsted and a house move all the same week, so there has been a lot of 'ooh, just imagine if you had other stresses going on too like being pregnant hahaha' or 'all you need now is a baby or a wedding, haha'.

I'm not getting married any time soon, but I hope there is still a little bit of surprise left in me being pregnant. I was surprised for crying out loud, so was bf... it would be a shame if everyone else has been just waiting for us to get around to it.

Mrsthedog · 20/02/2014 15:57

It's that learning to let go and to try not to be such a perfectionist that will be difficult. Difficult to think that I won't be having my two Year 10 classes next year as well to see them through their English GCSE.

Maybe it will be a good thing - my feedback is that I work harder than the kids in lessons so this will certainly change!!

ohthegoats You've certainly had a lot on your plate recently! The early days of your maternity leave will seem like a rest after all that lot!

devoncreamtea · 20/02/2014 16:03

Hi all, just had a little catch up - so sorry to hear brians news.

So everyone is tired then - me too. I'm technically asleep most of the time...keep murmuring 'yes ok' to my children - so far they've managed to extract chocolate biscuits and a film...they can't believe their luck!

Occasional bout of nausea, but nothing yet (I am lagging behind most of you though at just 4 weeks!)

Still can't believe it. I admit to the occasional poas...

Nice to hear about people's previous births - mine were all fine too. At home, 1 in water. Quite liked water but v. quick labour, so it was only just full when my son was born! I did get in when it was 6 inches full...determined!

Don't watch the one born thing, did a bit when I flirted with idea of being a midwife - but I found it hard to watch the people in pain, even though I've been there and know it's fine really!

devoncreamtea · 20/02/2014 16:06

I meant 'I don't watch' not an instruction not to watch - rude!!!

BingoBango85 · 20/02/2014 17:21

Oh ladies! Another 'what a day!' Went back to epu for more blood work. First attempt didn't draw anything, second attempt I passed out and woke up sobbing on the floor...3rd attempt no luck...4th lucky. Came home but got called bk as hcg had risen but not doubled. Another ultrasound...little sac has grown in 2 days and now has a yolk! Fluid and something else on tube suspected to b causing pain. Got to go back in a fortnight for another. Relieved but cautious and soooo exhausted!! What a day!

pebble82 · 20/02/2014 17:24

I really like the idea of a water birth as if it was up to me I'd actually live in the bath. Not sure I'll be able to though as I think my chosen hospital is mega busy so someone else will prob be in it. Can't exactly ask them to budge up and let me in ;-)

I noticed there's lots of teachers here, how weird you all do the same thing! I work in the baby industry which, now I'm expecting, is brilliant. Working at The Baby Show this weekend in London. Going to have a good nosey at everything on offer. Wish my colleagues knew though, going to be tough going on my feet for 3 days. Hope I don't throw up on anyone!

pebble82 · 20/02/2014 17:30

sorry bingo, crossed posts. Fingers crossed you'll feel better very soon, sounds like a very stressful day. Make sure you get enough rest. X

Mrsthedog · 20/02/2014 17:43

Bingobango85 Blimey - you must feel like a pin cushion today. Sounds horrific, but I am glad that you have got some reassurance that little pea is okay.

Have a lie down...

Me23 · 20/02/2014 17:58

I've been feeling nauseous all afternoon.
I'm working tomorrow, 13.5 hours on my feet is exhausting enough when not pregnant especially as we often dont get breaks due to short staffing and being so busy! That's the state of the NHS at present also Have a night snift on sunday.
I do watch obem actually went to the screening of it at c4 hq as they wanted opinions on it. I always say I won't watch it as its too much like a busmans holiday for me and I always get annoyed at the way it is edited and midwives always look like they get lots of breaks and sit around drinking tea all day Angry,

Cakebaker35 · 20/02/2014 18:04

Bingo that's great everything is going in the right direction, keeping everything crossed for you.

I too recommend nct classes, just a great way to meet other people and my group have become close friends and a great support through some of the tougher times.

I had a really traumatic birth with dd resulting ultimately in an emcs. Won't give any more details as I have no intention of scaring new mums-to-be, but just to say what ultimately matters is that your baby arrives safely, don't get too hung up on the 'perfect birth' and try to just go with the flow as best you can, and don't be afraid to change your mind about things right down to the wire. I am just very grateful to the amazing team at the hospital who intervened in a very timely way to save us both. It took me 2 years before I could watch an episode of obem after that and even now I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan, just a bit difficult for me.

Assuming I make it to 20 weeks I'll have a meeting with the consultant to discuss either vbac or elcs - I have no idea how I will decide, but it's a way off yet.

rubyinthedust · 20/02/2014 18:06

Another teacher here - wondering how I'll cope with going back to school as I'm feeling sleepy ALL the time. Thankfully we had Ofsted earlier this year so they won't be coming again for a while.

Currently 5+2(or 3, depending on who you ask) and have been having some very light spotting, which is making me panic. Got the letter confirming my booking appointment and nuchal test though, hopefully I'll get there...
