Old thread is getting full so here's a nice new one for all our moaning, paranoia and getting each other through it. Can someone do the honers and copy our edd list over? Maybe link the old thread too?

I had listeria with my first pregnancy, which is why DD was 6 weeks early. It is incredibly rare (I was the first person in 5years at a major London hospital) but it does happen. And, no, I don't know where I got it from - I followed all the guidance at the time. This has probably outed me to anyone who knows me!

magichandles · 28/02/2014 11:56

PS - I'm starting to feel pretty grim now - just went to softplay with DS and crawling around after him made me feel really sick!

pebble82 · 28/02/2014 12:32

So happy about dippy eggs being a possibility again. It's all I used to eat for weekend breakfast. The fact milkshake machines aren't cleaned and it sits there all day is just horrible, pg or not. But can't believe health and safety laws would allow something so disgusting.

I'm 31. Planned to have first child before I was 32 so will be just in time (all being well).

BlueberryPoppy123 · 28/02/2014 12:35

Have had a call from my surgery and try say I won't get to see a midwife till 10-11 weeks probably :( not happy about that anyone else been made to wait this long?

binkybunny · 28/02/2014 12:41

Pebble having worked in top class hotels and restaurants I can believe it and also realises it happens in so many food places you would just never eat out (or in with some supermarkets!) if you knew what happened!

Just stood up and got an absolute ripping pain down my lower right hand side. Slightly worried but had early scans so it was all ok two weeks ago. Hoping its just growing pains!

MundayCakes85 · 28/02/2014 12:46

Oh dear, day off, made fruit scones. Now in serious danger of eating them all Blush
Feeling good today, even boobs aren't as sore. However this could all change by the afternoon! Hope all those feeling queasy feel better soon

akachan · 28/02/2014 13:17

I haven't had an appointment through yet Blueberry. I'm only 7 weeks but was referred two and a half weeks ago. I wouldn't have expected to be seen yet but it would be good to get the appointment through. The sooner I get it the more likely it is I'll be able to get the time off work. I'm really tense about it until the appointment comes through!

Cakebaker35 · 28/02/2014 13:22

Blueberry, yes 10 wks for appt here too, as long as you have it before your 12 wk scan that's the main thing. It's lots of form filling in so don't get too excited about it Smile

I'm 37, had dd1 when 35, so I guess that makes me an old bird Smile but chose to do it later on, I really wasn't sure I even wanted any until I was about 34!

magichandles · 28/02/2014 14:07

I've just had my scan date through - 14 April - I'll be 12+4.

BlueberryPoppy123 · 28/02/2014 14:11

Cake baker... A few people has said this is normal now maybe it's because he's my second... First pregnancy I had app at 8 weeks... I remember being full of excitement and the best this she did was take my blood pressure and blood... Loads of questions too :(

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/02/2014 14:30

Midwives try to do book in appt at 10 weeks because chances are those that are going to miscarry will have done so before then, unless its a missed miscarriage. The scans vary from area to area, some send them out well in advance, here it's always a last minute thing where you often don't get the date till about a week before. I think I am 7 weeks today, will see midwife at 9 weeks, with scan next week at 8 weeks to confirm dates as they don't believe my long cycle!

Re foods to avoid, each to their own but personally I follow the guidelines fully and would rather go 9 months without steak, dippy eggs, alcohol etc than risk the life of my unborn child. I know I would never forgive myself if I caused harm to it. Someone I know lost her baby 2 weeks before her due date and I cannot begin to imagine how she felt having to labour knowing that her daughter would be stillborn. The chances of listeria or toxoplasmosis etc may be small but they are not chances i am willing to take. Once he or she is born then I will enjoy lots of steak and eggs, but not booze as I shall breastfeed just like I did with my 2 ds's for as long as the baby wants to.

fatpony · 28/02/2014 14:35

Blueberry I was told by my GP the other day I won't see the midwife till the actual scan, i.e. they do the booking in and scan at the same time. Not very happy about it but guess that is the overstretched NHS!

queenasanti3 · 28/02/2014 14:38

Had my booking in appointment this morning, and I now have a date for my 12 week dating scan, its 27th March, feeling excited now cant wait to tell everyone, Smile
hope everyone is ok, and 'hello' to any newbies.

binkybunny · 28/02/2014 14:40

queenasanti same date as my scan :-)

Booking in next week at 8 weeks scan at 12. Pretty on the ball up here.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 28/02/2014 14:44

And as someone who worked at a Burger King many years ago, I know full well the machines do not get emptied and cleaned every day like the rules say they should. The mix can easily sit there for several days at a time, unless the managers are doing their jobs properly, but the machines are a real pain in the backside to take apart, clean, lube and re assemble and rinse through, and so I know they just don't bother...

I think I've worked it out! One day niiiiiice.. only slightly sicky, very hungry, eat all the time, not bloated, not grumpy, having to pinch nipple to see if still have any boob symptoms, plenty of energy to actually manage my job/conversation at home (until 8pm anyway), forget I'm pregnant. Next day shiiiiiiiiit... want to puke the whole time, struggle to eat anything, bloated and in pain from trapped wind, panicking about current state and future finances and future medical stuff, have the rage, boobs hurt, exhausted by 10am. On an alternating schedule.

Now I've sorted that out p'raps I can wangle some sort of deal with my body where we go for the middle ground the whole time. Do you reckon? Or do you think the alternate feelings days are needed to help you appreciate the other ones?

sazzlehopes · 28/02/2014 16:49

Eeeep yuk at the mcflurry, that is rank.
Bugs! Good to see you here, all is ok I see (yes I'm still lurking! Grin)
I'm still all about the spicy food, gimme chilli chilli and more?! So odd.

pebble82 · 28/02/2014 16:59

I'm now half way through watching Supersize Me. I'm never eating McDonald's again!

Bumpforme2014 · 28/02/2014 17:29

Evening all, some funny posts today. I've just got home and avoided work drinks for like the fifth time in last month, can't wait until they know so they don't think I'm being an anti social bore!

I feel good again today, 8 weeks has been great :-) I have my booking in appointment at 10 weeks and scan at 11 weeks, i can't wait to find out how all our scans go, wonder how many of us will see two babies not one.

RE McDonalds nothing can put me off, not even supersize me. I just love that place and always will :-)

Also, all this talk about eggs I am now craving some and will be having them for dinner :-)

If scans etc OK, then probably, just because I've moved to a new place and it's a way to meet people.

Just had a really nice phone call to tell me two of my cousins are pregnant (they've both had previous miscarriage incidents, one very publically at her wedding), so I reckon I can get away with keeping my news quiet for even longer.

Cakebaker35 · 28/02/2014 18:18

Sparkle we did first time around, we were sceptical but they are very very worth it IMHO. Not so much for the info (they do paying birth in a bit of an ideal way I think and make out that hospitals are the devil, maybe that was just our teacher) but we made some great friends who I still see every week and there is nothing quite like having someone with a baby of a similar age that you can talk things through with and keep each other sane during the harder times.

Cakebaker35 · 28/02/2014 18:19

Paying?! Paint - sorry for typo.

Ohthegoats lovely news for your cousins, sounds like they've been through terrible times.

ohthegoats · 28/02/2014 18:26

Cakebaker - question: there are a couple of courses that would suit my timings, but none are 'perfect' - EDD 30th September or 1st October, depending. Courses really locally (5 minute walk) are for Mid Aug - September babies, course the other side of town (I'd need to get in the car to get there), is Mid Sept - October.

Better to go for timing, or location if it's really all about making some early days buddies?
