Old thread is getting full so here's a nice new one for all our moaning, paranoia and getting each other through it. Can someone do the honers and copy our edd list over? Maybe link the old thread too?

Haha excited, I have to force myself to eat these days, got no appetite and when I do eat I get full very quickly! I miss my foooood :-(

TroubleAndFyfe · 22/02/2014 22:36

We use totsbots Velcro fitted nappies and find them great. We've tried loads of different wraps and favourites are probably bumbletots and motherease. All have been pretty good apart from Bambino Mio (sold in boots) which just leak like mad, avoid! I've heard good things about gnappies, and little lambs for nappies but haven't tried them. Recommend bamboo boosters for night time (work with any nappy system).
As for earlier question, if you have around 30 nappies then you'll need to do a machine load every 3 days. They're supposed to be better for nappy rash but I can't compare as DS only wore disposables for the first two days of his life (as came early and nappies were in loft) and hasn't worn one since! We used a 'wet bag' when put and about (drawstring waterproof bag) and several carrier bags if we're going away for a few days. We 'dry pail' at home so nappies just go in a pedal bin - no soaking then get chucked in washing machine on a rinse cycle before the wash. We used flushable liners for poo, if not would they can be washed and dried with the nappies and reused several times. DS only wears nappies for sleep now - early potty training is another alleged advantage of cloth as they know the difference between wet and dry. If anyone wants more detail on anything just ask...trying not to go on and on! Grin

impatienceisavirtue · 22/02/2014 22:38

Well I'm back on the bus.

Hope you all have a happy and healthy nine months x

FlipFantasia · 23/02/2014 03:52

Impatience so sorry up hear that Hmm. Take care of yourself and fingers crossed for a sticky bean soon.

I agree with everything trouble says about real nappies! Except that I love pocket nappies, as they worked really well with nursery & then childminder when I was back at work. All in ones take forever to dry. But I love prefolds (especially for leaky newborn poo!) and fitteds (especially for nighttime) too.

Porcito glad you got to see your baby! Spotting must have been scary so glad you got some reassurance. It's way better once you can feel the baby kick btw, takes away a lot of anxiety in my experience.

Big waves to everyone else. Hope everyone's doing ok.

officelady · 23/02/2014 07:39

Good morning Smile
It's been a while since I posted on this thread and it disappeared from my 'threads I'm on' - took me ages to find you again so thought I'd better start posting again to mark my place!
Welcome to the newbies and love to those who have left the thread. These early weeks are a roller coaster of emotions aren't they?
I haven't posted because I am feeling quite negative at the moment. I just can't believe there will be a healthy baby there when I go for my first scan (haven't even had the date through yet, so no idea when it will be). I need to snap out of this negative frame of mind though, it's very draining. Back to work tomorrow which should take my mind off things. I need to ask for time off to go to my first midwife appt but don't want my boss to know I'm pregnant yet. On the other hand it feels wrong lying to her - not sure yet what I'm going to say. Part of me thinks I might as well be honest (as long as she swears to secrecy) - after all, if it DOES go wrong now, I'm going to need time off work anyway. Aargh why is it so complicated?!
And onto my next quandary - assuming there IS a baby in my belly and not just lots of chocolate we want to have the Harmony test for chromosomal abnormalities. They can do this at 10 weeks (I'm 8 + 5 at the moment). So potentially I could pay to have a scan & blood test the week after next. But should I save my money and wait to see what the NHS nuchal scan shows? Then go for the Harmony if it comes out high risk? I am going round and round in circles thinking about this! My poor brain Confused

sazzlehopes · 23/02/2014 08:02

Kitty hope you are ok. And impatience I'm sorry to hear your news.
Office - I personally would wait til after my scan and do it if I was told I was high risk...but that is just me. If it is driving you crazy and you can afford it perhaps think about doing it earlier?

Trouble I could go on and on too about cloth nappies and the merits! We used tots boys and bungenius. Mainly Velcro as it made it so easy for grandparents/nursery staff to use too. We had stuffed pocket nappies which I didn't mind stuffing. I managed on about 15 to start and built my stash up to about 20-25. Super easy to wash and care for (you seem to be washing so much anyway at the beginning!!) and then when on solids at 6 months had flushable liners so the poo just dropped away down the loo. So easy once you're in the zone!! Even since I bought mine 4 years ago they've improved the technology again, they really are great. And we never had nappy rash and my boy potty trained just after his 2nd birthday!

sazzlehopes · 23/02/2014 08:03

Sorry damn iPhone! It's TOTSBOTS and BUMGENIUS nappies!!!

KittyVonCatsington · 23/02/2014 08:10

Oh, impatience-how awful for you Sad. Hope you are getting lots of support from DH. Thanks

KittyVonCatsington · 23/02/2014 08:17

Feeling a bit better today-had a good chat with my sister yesterday and she was sensible in her advice. Nothing unusual when I went to the toilet either this morning. All that is left is frequent waves of nausea, urggh! Am going to test again towards the end of this week to see if I get a stronger line. Enjoying reading about re-usable nappies. So many helpful tips!

binkybunny · 23/02/2014 08:26

So sorry impatience. Hope it happens for you soon.

Officelady, I'd say I would wait til after the scan but in reality I would probably book in as soon as I could if I was worried. If it puts your mind at rest and you're feeling down go with what you think is right.

I never knew there were so many options for reusable nappies! Will have to have a good scout around the internet and I guess try out a few. Thanks for recommendations at least we can start with them!

TroubleAndFyfe · 23/02/2014 08:36

So sorry impatience!Sad
Officelady can you get an appointment fairly quickly or do you have to book in advance? I'm wondering if you can see how you feel in a week in hopes you'll be a bit more cheery and feel more like you can wait. Thanks
Many towns have cloth nappy meets or nappachinos (don't know how it's spelt but like a nappy coffee morning) might be worth a google for some of you. The nappy lady also has a service where you pay a small fee, answer a questionnaire and she'll recommend what types would suit your lifestyle. I've never done this but she appears to be very popular. Glad so many people are so enthusiastic!
Don't get me started on slings! Wink

officelady · 23/02/2014 08:56

THanks for the replies - I already feel better after typing it all out this morning! I tried talking to dh about it all but he's a bit laid back about it, it's not "real" to him yet, I don't think. Either that or he's in denial Grin
I think I am going to wait until after my booking in appointment and see how I feel afterwards. I have a feeling that she books the 12 week scan at the same time, so I'll have more of an idea of how long I will have to wait (hopefully not too long!). I don't think there's a long wait for the private clinic that does the Harmony testing so I can bide my time on that front. I was adamant that I would do it at 10 weeks but now that time is nearing, it seems a shame to spend loads of money on the tests if the NHS ones come back as low risk.
I am loving all the talk of real nappies, it is definitely something I am interested in. And I used a sling with both my other babies so I will be reading up on all the different types. If I get that far - aargh (again!). Trying hard not to look too far into the future but it's difficult - I want to coo over teeny tiny clothes and prams and stuff. Roll on 12 weeks!!

ohthegoats · 23/02/2014 09:00

Officelady - regards the Harmony test. My bf was totally on board with whatever I decided to do, so I thought about it in terms of what I thought I could cope with emotionally if results of Nuchal were bad. At that point it would already be 12 weeks, any extra testing could be a few more weeks, at which point I figured I could find myself 16 or 18 weeks pregnant and having to make a decision about the future of the pregnancy. I decided that I can't (and don't want to) cope with a late termination.

We're having the Harmony at 10+4 weeks along with a viability scan. Then a 12+4 scan at the same place, where we'll get Nuchal test and the results of the Harmony test. If I have to have CVS at that point, it means I'm still probably safe to be making decisions for the pregnancy at under 14 weeks, hopefully earlier. Which I'm more comfortable with, both physically and emotionally.

That might be a cold way of thinking about it, but I have to do things logically, that's just how I work.

Meanwhile today, possibly as the result of mint tea and actimel, I have no symptoms other than boob sensitivity, but am assuming all sorts of negative things. Nice.

Mrsthedog · 23/02/2014 09:14

Sorry to hear about impatienceisavirtue - best wishes from Puppy and I :(

Officelady I got so frustrated the other day that I (in a very macabre state of mind) called my little one Schrodinger as I will not be sure if there is a sticky bean in there until the scan in millions of weeks time. I am trying to battle negative feelings as well and it is difficult.

He's now called Schrodinberg as we have been watching too much Breaking Bad and so it is a portmanteau of Schrodinger and Heisenberg, the main character's alias. Of course I probably won't tell the kid all this when he is older - might think mummy and daddy are cuckoo. :)

CareBearWithFangs · 23/02/2014 09:27

Morning everyone.

Thanks For impatience. Take care of yourself.

Thanks for all the advice on nappies. Where's the best place to get them second hand, eBay?

And would love some sling advice actually. DD loved her sling and was in it almost permanently until she was 8 months. I used an ergo last time but hoping for something this time that I might also be able to feed in, any suggestions?

Morning sickness has started to kick in here, felt nauseous most of yesterday.

So sorry to hear that impatience. Really thinking of you.
While all this nappy talk is great, could we go back a step and do any ladies have any advise for dealing with nausea?

I am actually quite fortunate that I've not been sick but pretty much unless it's immediately after I've eaten, I've got this sicky feeling and I keep having to take deep breaths. I've read about ginger and peppermint helping but then what food items / drink items do you find helps? Would be most grateful as have had this for a week now (was hoping it would pass) and would love to try something that makes you feel less rubbish.

All ideas gratefully received. Thanks!!

Another day has passed ladies!! Woop x

mrsb87 · 23/02/2014 09:55

Mrsf I'm tending to agree, as exciting as it is taking about nappies and slings I think its a long old way to go yet.
I'm dealing with hyperemesis atm and find that full fat coca cola seems to settle my tummy. That and sniffing on a wedge of lime!. I've tried ginger (in many forms!), biscuits, peppermint....the list goes on! I guess its just a case of trying things and finding what works for you.

ohthegoats · 23/02/2014 09:58

MrsF - I've felt sick all day most days since mid January. Things that help: not getting bloated (mint tea seems to help with bloatedness, and in turn with the nausea), not trying to do too much physically - no gym, or gardening, not travelling as a passenger in bfs car with sports suspension!, eating small meals, drinking things other than water - squash is sort of OK, juice is better, cleaning my teeth quite a lot (I know some people find it harder), not standing too close to people because breath is the worst thing for making me heave, only eating what I really fancy irrespective of nutritional value.

ikeaismylocal · 23/02/2014 10:12

Hello :) can I join you?

I am 5 weeks pregnant so still really early days.

I have a 14 month old ds who took years to conceive I got my bfp with him the day before we were due to startIVF this time around we weren't even really ttc so it's a surprise that it happened so fast and easily.

My ds is still breastfed very often! and he shows no signs of wanting to stop, I wonder if that will change as this pregnancy progresses.

I'm British but I live in Sweden with my Swedish dp, we get a 20 week scan here and a 12 week scan if you want the nucal fold test, I don't really want the nucal fold test but I really want to see how my little baby!

binkybunny · 23/02/2014 10:13

Travelbands and weak cordial juice are my saviours! Oh... and bacon with ketchup but no butter. Even typing the word makes me heave!

I know its v early to talk about nappies but as a control freak, buying things and planning nursery etc feels like the only thing I can control at the moment and keeps me calm.

Katqwaszx · 23/02/2014 10:29

After just booking an early scan I started bleeding pretty heavily and unfortunately miscarried on Friday evening. Sad well that week was a rollercoaster of emotions. we hope to try again soon.

Me23 · 23/02/2014 10:34

Katqwaszx I'm very sorry to hear your sad news. Best if luck for the future.

Loopylu84 · 23/02/2014 10:46

Mrsthedog your last post made me laugh so much! There is indeed something very Schrodinger-esq about the situation we all find ourselves in at the moment
Dh and I have a wickedly dark sense of humour too and so I'm being greeted on a daily basis with 'so how is my darling host and little parasite?' slightly horrifying I know!

Welcome ikea! Must be really wondferful to have got a bfp after trying so long for your first, may I ask though, why do you not want to have the nuchal test?

I still havent had any bad nausea or vomiting but the sore boobs and cramps continue, 6+3 today and my mum tells me her morning sickness didnt start till 8wks so I fear that I may not have escaped just yet!
